[Bug 595650] Re: after the last updates printer stopped working

2010-06-28 Thread Wim Cools
I tried to add a printer from CUPS web interface. But find printer and
add printer 'hangs' (web time-out).

With hp-setup I can add the printer, but the printer doesn't print.

Thanks for your help.

1 processor running at 100%. Laptop makes sound like an airplane. Speed seemed

the transfer, everything went back to normal.

I am running Ubuntu Lucid, with all updates installed.

Solved on my T60 ThinkPad. Strange. An hour or so ago I did a new
install (lucid beta1) on a new hard disk and everything worked fine.
After a full upgrade the touch pad no longer responded to tapping or
scrolling. Plus the touch pad was very sensitive. I just did another
upgrade (incl. 1.2.2-1ubuntu1) and everything is working fine again.
Thanks!

[Bug 549382] Re: autoformat cells cannot turn off

2010-03-28 Thread Wim Feijen
Thanks Chris for looking into this.

Actually, it reverts the time format, so it doesn't work for me.

What happens is:
I type in: 18.01
it gets converted to: 18-01-10
I right click, select Getalnotatie (Notation, or number formatting??), and
Time, and HH:MM. What I get is: 00:00
I type in: 18.01
It gets again converted to: 18-01-10

So I cannot type in 18.01 and keep it that way. (By the way, I could
type in 18:01 and that would work, but all the cells in my timesheet are
entered as: 17.59 etc. so for me it would not work to type in 18:01.)

The second implicit question I have, is: I like to turn off auto-
formatting, because for me, it messes things up. And I cannot. So that's
a feature request I'd like to enter.

Best regards,

Wim

[Bug 549382] [NEW] autoformat cells cannot turn off

2010-03-27 Thread Wim Feijen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

By default, table cells are formatted in the wrong way. I am not able to
turn it off.

For example, when I want to enter a time as 18.01, it is automatically
converted to a date. OpenOffice does not follow the time behaviour, if
specified.

Actually, I really dislike auto-formatting and am unable to turn it off

[Bug 517492] [NEW] empty battery during upgrade causes unusable system

2010-02-05 Thread Wim
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 377697 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/377697

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

I did an upgrade on a laptop, not realizing that it was running on the
battery. During the installation (after everything was downloaded) the
battery was empty and the laptop shut down (don't know whether it was
graceful or not). I think the upgrade should warn the user when the
computer is running on battery power, and perhaps even refuse to
continue while this is so.

[Bug 500287] [NEW] Ubuntu one does not add computer after all registered computers have been removed using web interface

2009-12-24 Thread Wim
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client

Ubuntu one was working fine for a while, but then I noticed it wasn't
synchronizing any more. So I went to the ubuntu one website, and removed
all registered computers. Now ubuntu one won't ask me to register my
computer any more, and fails to connect. Originally I had chrome as my
default browser, but I moved it back to firefox; this however didn't
change anything about the problem.

The applet shows the exclamation mark. When I click connect, it shows a
dark cloud for a while, and then goes back to the exclamation mark.

[Bug 483177] Re: KARMIC - Selecting the Ubuntu column dims then hangs Synaptic.

2009-11-15 Thread Wim Lewis
I encountered (and then reported) this bug about 20 minutes ago, but
noticed that eventually synaptic did recover and become responsive
again. On my (fairly underpowered) machine it took almost 10 minutes to
recover. So perhaps this is not a hang at all but just an extremely slow
sorting operation, see also Bug #165181 ?

[Bug 207408] Re: Gnome Mahjongg last two tiles error

2009-10-24 Thread wim
If you end up with 2 tiles on top of each other the game can never be ended.
The first time the software allows you to shuffle, but what happens if you
shuffle 2 stones that are on top of each other?
Right: they stay on top of each other and the game can never be ended.
Frustrating!!

[Bug 427754] Re: Missing the KTcpSocket class files, maybe others

2009-09-22 Thread Wim van der Meer
How come the API docs at api.kde.org show the class to be part of at
least KDE 4.0?

http://api.kde.org/4.0-api/kdelibs-
apidocs/kdecore/html/classKTcpSocket.html

I have to tell you I am new at KDE programming. Could you be so kind to
explain to me how I can (reliably) find out which classes are released
with which version of KDE? Thanks for your help.

I have the same problem as reported by Gabriz on my Samsung NC10
netbook, where I've just started running Ubuntu (so I'm a complete
novice!) next to the XP home installation. The login screen and I can
login again normally. Suspend works okay.

Re: [Bug 397980] Re: evolution deletes all e-mails in a folder after renaming

2009-07-14 Thread Wim Boon
Thanks for your quick response.

The problem is reproducible:
Steps:
-create a new main folder with name 'test1'
-in folder 'test1' create subfolder 'test2'
-move some messages e.g. from the 'removed messages' folder into folder
'test1'
-move a message from folder 'test1' into folder 'test2'
-rename folder 'test1' to 'test3'.
-move one message from folder 'test3' into subfolder 'test2'. after
completion of this action folder 'test3' contains no messages. only the
subfolder 'test2' is present.
-subfolder 'test2' contains only the message that was moved into this
subfolder in the previous step.the message move earlier into this
subfolder has disappeared.

I repeated this test as follows:
-create a new main folder with name 'test1'.
-in folder 'test1' create subfolder 'test2'.
-in subfolder 'test2' create subsubfolder 'testx'.
-move messages into 'test1', 'test2' and testx'.
-rename 'test1' to 'test3'.
-move a message from 'test1' into 'testx'. : 'test3' lost all messages,
the messages in 'test2' survived, 'testx' contained only the message
moved just into this subsubfolder.

Hope this helps to solve the problem.
Best regards

Wim Boon

[Bug 397980] [NEW] evolution deletes all e-mails in a folder after renaming

2009-07-10 Thread Wim Boon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Evolution 2.26.1-0ubuntu2
Ubuntu 9.04
One of my mailfolders contained many e-mails and its name was no longer
appropriate for its contents.
So I renamed the folder and added some subfolders to it. After this all the
e-mails in this main folder were still shown in the right hand half of the
evolution window.
Then I dragged one e-mail from this main folder into one of the new
subfolders. To my despair all the other e-mails simply disappeared from this
main folder! They are not hidden or in the trashbin either so I lost all this
information.
E-mails in other folders are still there.

2009-02-27 Thread Wim Feijen
Hello, I seem to be having the same problem.

Since approximately a week, the sound does not work for all movies I
play using FF. Today I had time to examine the problem, and Totem is not
detecting my sound: Volume up and volume down do not function and
playing mp3s gives no sound, although visualisation do show.

In contrast, Rhythmbox plays my music as usual.

I am using a Fujitsu Amilo Li notebook using Atheros Wifi and ATI AMD
graphics drivers.

Thanks for examining this problem

[Bug 325302] [NEW] dlopen in combination with libselinux and libGL crashes

2009-02-04 Thread Wim
Public bug reported:

I'm not sure I can pinpoint this bug to one package. This is also the
reason why I submit it here instead of at the package owner bug tool.

The problem occurs for .so files linked with libselinux and libGL. When
you dlopen this .so file everything is fine, until the program exits,
then libselinux gives a SIGSEGV. If you do not link libGL, or if you
swap the order, everything is fine. The .so file itself does not need to
do anything with these libraries.

I have attached a simple testcase to show this problem.

1)
Description:Ubuntu 8.10

[Bug 297658] Re: Can only change brightness on Toshiba Satellite A300 during first boot of new kernel

2009-01-26 Thread Aesaert Wim

 Jano wrote on 2008-12-09: (permalink)
Hello, breaking news: I discovered a certain pattern in my laptop's behavior
regarding this brightness issue. Whenever a kernel upgrade (from official
packages) is performed, the first boot with the new kernel is always good (i.e.
i can adjust brightness), while all subsequent boots are NOT. Any ideas why
this might be happening?? I'm really puzzled. TIA.

__

There recently was an update of an acpi package. I can't remember the name
exactly. I remember that the brightness up and down key worked and also that
the power detection (removing or connecting power cable) was working good at
the first reboot after I upgraded the acpi package. The problem is that it
didn't work 'again' from the second boot or all following reboots.

I don't know how this acpi stuff works, but could the following be
possible?

bootsession 1 = power detection and hotkeys working
bootsession 2+x = power detection and hotkeys NOT working
1) acpi reads some settings from a certain settings file when the pc boots
(bootsession 1).
2) some other piece of power-hotkey-software (which starts after acpi is
started) writes some wrong settings to this settings file. (bootsession 1)
3) Kubuntu starts and acpi works. (bootsession 1)
4) Reboot the pc
5) Acpi reads some WRONG settings from a certain settings file when the pc
boots (bootsession 2+x)
6) Some other piece of power-hotkey-software (which starts after acpi is
started) writes some wrong settings to this settings file. (bootsession 2+x)
7) Kubuntu starts and acpi doesn't work.(bootsession 2+x)
8) Reboot the pc
9) All following reboots are equal to point 5 to 8.

10) When you reïnstall acpi, it writes the good settings to this settings file.
11) Reboot the pc.
We can start again from point 1) acpi reads.

[Bug 265077] Re: local devices visable on each client

2008-12-16 Thread wim
The kind people on #ltsp pointed out that this is caused by having all
users in the same main group instead of each user its own group.

This behaviour is expected, and will not be changed. The solution is to
make sure every user has its own group, also on an ldap setup.

They mentioned that they would update the documenation to reflect this.

[Bug 35223] Re: Laptop TFT monitor - brightness level is not saved

2008-12-08 Thread Aesaert Wim
I'm on Toshiba L350D-10i Laptop

When I install kde-guidance-powermanager and I reboot, brightness can be
set with the keys on the keyboard. Second reboot results in the
brightness keys being unusable again and brightness can't be set. All
following reboots leave the brightness keys unusable.

I made a dmesg from the first reboot when it worked and I also made a
dmesg from the second reboot when the keys didn't work. Comparing both
didn't show any big differences. I still have the dmesg's so if anyone
wants them to have a quick look at it, feel free to ask.

[Bug 297658] Re: Can't adjust display brightness on Toshiba Satellite A300

2008-12-08 Thread Aesaert Wim
I'm on a Toshiba Satellite L350D-10i

system-manufacturer: TOSHIBA
system-product-name: Satellite L350D
system-version: PSLE0E-00E004BT

I have a problem that looks a lot like your latest post. Normally I can't
switch my screen brightness with the Fn-Hotkeys. When I install
KDE-guidance-powermanager and reboot, I can change brightness levels of the LCD
screen with Fn-keys. The second time I reboot (and all following reboots) I
can't change-brightness levels anymore via Fn-keys. Changing brightness level
manually with the slider in guidance powermanager works any time.
Sometimes switching brightness also works first reboot after I uninstall
guidance-powermanager. Second and all following rebootes disables switching
brightness again.

I don't know if this is an FN-Hotkey, guidance-powermanager or other
problem.

I did a dmesg when the brightness worked and also one when i doesn't
work, compared both and they were almost exactly the same. I can post
both if you want. If you want more information or you me to test
something, feel free to ask. I'll help as much as I can.

In my previous post I forgot to mention that I use a vanilla kernel

properly. Following options were enabled:

I probably also enabled a lot of other options that had something to do with

[Bug 226397] Re: fan never turns off

2008-11-30 Thread Aesaert Wim
Hello,

I have the same problem on my Toshiba Satellite L350D-10i laptop.

case 1) When I boot the laptop into Kubuntu Intrepid, sometimes the fan
speed works good and changes accordingly to the cpu temp. This never
causes my system to hang or stall. Even not when I try to compile a
vanilla kernel.

case 2) When I boot the laptop into Kubuntu Intrepid, sometimes the fan
speed runs at a constant low speed, no matter what the cpu temp. is.
This causes my system to stall when I do some cpu intensive tasks (like
compiling a vanilla kernel), but luckily it allows me to work without
problems when I just send some mail or surf the net.

case 1 and case 2 happen in a kernel I compiled myself. I enabled some Toshiba
options and I also changed some things on the ACPI and CPU settings. Most
changes involve power and sensor settings. = kernel
2.6.27.2-met-toshiba-ondersteuning

only case 2 happens on kernel 2.6.27-7-generic an 2.6.27-9-generic,
which are the ones that came with intrepid.

In the attachment i tarred 8 files. All are from the vanilla kernel but 4 are
from case 1 (fan-changeable-speed) and 4 are from case 2
(fan-constant-low-speed).

case 1
dmesg.log-fan-good-changeable-speed.log
lspci-vvnn.log-fan-good-changeable-speed.log
uname-a.log-fan-good-changeable-speed.log
version.log-fan-good-changeable-speed.log

case 2
dmesg.log-fan-low-constant-speed.log
lspci-vvnn.log-fan-low-constant-speed.log
uname-a.log-fan-low-constant-speed.log
version.log-fan-low-constant-speed.log

If you want more info or i need to test something for you, I'm happy to
do that.

Greetz,

Wim

[Bug 279800] Re: GStreamer update (7-Oct-2008, Intrepid) causes Banshee crash

2008-10-21 Thread Wim Taymans
I did some debugging here, it seems like a race in (the rewritten)
basetransform could have caused this. A possible fix is commited to CVS,
it seems to make banshee run fine for me now.

2008-10-21 Wim Taymans [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* libs/gst/base/gstbasetransform.c:
(gst_base_transform_prepare_output_buffer),
(gst_base_transform_buffer_alloc), (gst_base_transform_suggest):
Protect sink_alloc caps with the sinkpad lock to avoid nasty caps
refcount problems as seen in banshee and maybe also in farsight2.
Remove atomic int now that we need to take the lock anyways.

[Bug 265077] Re: local devices visable on each client

2008-10-10 Thread wim
Hi,

This is on a production system, which i cannot upgrade at this moment (or
anytime soon).
It seems to be consistent though. I saw it on fresh installs on two different
servers.
Te only thing that makes our system slightly different for the standard ltsp
setup is that we use ldap auth.

the media/user dirs are there. owned by root
