Hello I updated the beta version of 9.04. The device does not even appear. Before I installed the backports and it recognised the wlan device. But it did not detect any networks. And that is fascinating since the other laptop (with hardy) has no problems whatsoever with detecting all surrounding networks. So a. Hardy backports detect the device, but the device does not detect any networks. b. It effected all versions I ever had. The main problem is, that Ubuntu needs to reasses the colours. Destinguish between fonts and background for each normal and highlighted. And then a layout for all buttons! Then developers had less work, since they do not have to set the colours themself. Applications which need more colours (firefox, gedit, etc.) can then allow the user to set the colour themself. By the way: In the mask for new profiles Users can insert the mac ID. That should be a drop down list since the mac is fixed for each device. ANd of course no one can use the wlan Mac for ethernet. And usually subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 and the gateway is similiar to the dns. And by the way: I used 8.04 on my Desktop PC and it listed a modem device which was not installed. I reported this bug and the modem device is not listed anymore. But now I use 8.10 on my Laptop and my Laptop has a modem device. But the network manager does NOT detect this device. Additionaly it shows a dsl-modem, which is also not installed in my laptop. Please fix that bug: Ubuntu shall detect a modem device, if it is there and should NOT detect one, if it is not there! And please ensure that all networks are written in correctly! I installed 3 networks and only one was listed in the interfaces file. ANd by the way: The MAC-Id is fixed for each device.
