[Bug 229547] Re: Atheros wifi stops working randomly

2010-09-09 Thread Wouter den Haan
The bug is closed already, but here is an update on this 'bug'. I
recently installed Windows XP on this notebook and.. guess what, the
same problem is there after an unexpected shutdown. Rebooting about 5-6
times reenables the network. My best guess now is that this is a
hardware problem and has never been a bug in Ubuntu.

[Bug 374566] Re: Virtualisation

I get the exact same error-message on jaunty using virt-manager.

When using the wizard for creating a virtual machine, this error message
appears after trying to make a disk image with the default settings. It
appears to be an issue with permissions. After selecting a location in
my home folder, the error does not appear.

I'm not sure this really is a duplicate. Bug 343707 is about showing
this message for non-music files. My bugreport is about actual music
files for which a codec cannot be found.

[Bug 371128] [NEW] rhythmbox/gnome-app-install keeps searching for suitable plugin

2009-05-03 Thread Wouter den Haan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-app-install

After starting rhythmbox, it loads my music collection and finds that it
does not have the necessary plugin to play some files. It then tries to
download a suitable plugin. So far so good.

The suitable plugin is however not found and after clicking 'cancel' the
same window pops up again when rhythmbox stumbles upon the next file it
cannot play. And again, and again..

I think some mechanism should be included to prevent this dialog from
opening up more then once for a given type of music files (audio/x-wma
in this case).

I'm using jaunty. With gnome-app-install: 0.5.24-0ubuntu1

Installing using the Alternate CD (Intrepid Alpha 5) is working
correctly here. However, I cannot boot into the freshly installed system
after that. It ends up in Busybox again.

I tried to boot into Intrepid using the 'recovery' mode. This has pretty
much the same result, but gives a lot more information which I
photographed (see attached pics).

Attached are also the output of 'lspci' and 'lsmod' which I executed

[Bug 229547] [NEW] Atheros wifi stops working randomly

2008-05-12 Thread Wouter den Haan
Public bug reported:

The Atheros wifi in my Acer 5051 notebook most of the time works like a
charm. Once in a while however, wireless networking isn't available from
nm-applet anymore. Rebooting once doesn't usually fix the problem. But
for some reason, most of the times it works after 4-5 reboots.

I had this same problem regularly over 6 months ago. Last six months
everything worked fine.. I guess that since my upgrade to Hardy the
problem started reappearing.

I noticed the following error in dmesg:
[ 52.964098] wifi%d: unable to attach hardware: 'Hardware revision not

[Bug 219586] Re: root-filesystem doesnt list in 'mount'

2008-04-20 Thread Wouter den Haan
Yes.. i figured that this wasn't a generic bug.. Else it would have been
noticed earlier.. There's probably something specific about my system
that triggers this bug.. But i have no idea whatsoever about what
triggers this bug.

Can anyone tell me what info is needed for this bug?

yet. I'll do so as soon as it is released and check wether the bug is still
existent for me.

2008-04-15 Thread Wouter den Haan
On Gutsy, this is still happening. I've tried using VLC to avoid this
behaviour.. Apparently, with VLC it only happens when it is switched to
XVideo for its output. So this seems to point to a bug in XVideo.

I know what the bug is, since I filed it. :-) And it is definitely
fixed..

Things have changed since I reported this bug and the timed-login does
_not_ occur on a second GDM anymore. I guess this is the most sensible
behaviour..

One additional comment to this..

In Nautilus the 'file type' show 'Digital raw image' at first. As soon
as a file gets selected however, it changes to 'TIFF image'. See also
attached screenshot of Nautilus after I selected a .CR2 file.

Re: [Bug 163081] Re: 64bit gutsy doesnt show bootsplash

2007-12-07 Thread Wouter den Haan
That looks like it is exactly the same problem. I re-enabled usplash,
changed /etc/usplash.conf to 1280x800 and ran 'sudo dpkg-reconfigure
usplash'. Everything is working like a charm now.

So this bug is definitely a duplicate of 157758.

So the real bug is that the screen-resolution doesnt get detected
properly.

Re: [Bug 163081] Re: 64bit gutsy doesnt show bootsplash

2007-12-06 Thread Wouter den Haan
The resolution of my notebook-screen is 1280x800.

A few days ago I switched off usplash by removing 'splash' from the
kernel options in /boot/grub/menu.lst. Since then the system is booting
much faster. I also tried changing the resolution in usplash.conf to
1280x800. Usplash still did not work and booting was slow again. So i
switched usplash off again.

[Bug 163081] 64bit gutsy doesnt show bootsplash

2007-11-16 Thread Wouter den Haan
Public bug reported:

I just installed a fresh 64bit gutsy on my laptop instead of the 32bit i
was already running.

During boot-time, right after the GRUB-menu has appeared, the screen
goes black. I.e. bootsplash does not work. First thing i see after that
is GDM. Gnome works fine and the resolution is OK. Switching to TTY1 - 6
(ctrl-alt-f1 - f6), shows a very large login-prompt with a very low
resolution. After logging in, it appears that my screen doesnt show
everything there is to show..

I'm not sure what information to include here. Please ask if more info
is needed.
