[Bug 846280] [NEW] Regression in Linux shrew 2.1.7 -> OpenBSD 4.8+ roadwarrior VPN

[Bug 838981] [NEW] Upgrade to Beta 1 does not install grub to partition
Public bug reported: Description:Ubuntu oneiric (development branch) Release:11.10 grub-pc: Installed: 1.99-11ubuntu1 Candidate: 1.99-11ubuntu1 Version table: *** 1.99-11ubuntu1 0 500 http://tw.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status Prior setup is a Natty Install on /dev/sda5, with grub2 installed on that same partition, as laptop has a Windows installation in /dev/sda2, and the Windows boot manager is used as the main, chainloading to grub when Ubuntu is desired. Upgrade to Oneiric Beta 1 seems to have a grub2 that does not allow itself being installed in /dev/sda5, as seen in /var/log/dist-upgrade /apt-term.log... /usr/sbin/grub-setup: warn: Attempting to install GRUB to a partitionless disk or to a partition. This is a BAD idea.. /usr/sbin/grub-setup: warn: Embedding is not possible. GRUB can only be installed in this setup by using blocklists. However, blocklists are UNRELIABLE and their use is discouraged.. /usr/sbin/grub-setup: error: will not proceed with blocklists. ...first reboot after upgrade left the Windows boot manager intact, but choosing to boot Ubuntu with it leads to a blank screen, meaning there's no grub2 in /dev/sda5; I find it odd that the upgrade removed it. Workaround was to boot with a rescue CD (e.g. Natty live CD) and chroot to /dev/sda5 to do `grub-install /dev/sda'; while this works now, this may be undesirable for those using non-Linux boot loaders as their primary boot manager. After a few moments I got a Debian sid debootstrap successfully completed. Can confirm this on an attempt to debootstrap a Debian sid chroot under Feisty. Running the command where the `W' warning emits (chroot /mnt/usb mount -t proc proc /proc) shows that libdevmapper isn't present in the chroot, which is somewhat required by the mount call on /proc to succeed. Confirmed in a different laptop (MSI MegaBook S262) experiencing `fully charged' AC-powered state from kde-guidance-powermanager while laptop's actually running on battery. [Bug 104794] Re: guidance-power-manager shows dischanging if battery full
This bug still seems to affect Feisty, post-release; I am experiencing kde-guidance-powermanager telling me my battery is fully charged (when it is not) and the battery icon in a plugged-in (AC) mode (even when it is not.) Because the icon in the notification area doesn't change as the battery discharge progresses, this may confuse users. [Bug 88254] Re: xserver fails to start - missing FontPath in xorg.xonf
Setting to High as this will break X on the next reboot (even across hibernates.) The breakage is caused by the new xserver-xorg package installing a symlink to /usr/share/fonts/X11 on /usr/share/X11/fonts, but on systems up to the previous revision or xorg, /usr/share/X11/fonts is a directory, and this appears to be not handled gracefully by the upgrade (it doensn't even appear to make dpkg break :/) Two additional workarounds will work in light of the fact above: - move the existing /usr/share/X11/fonts somewhere, then do `apt-get install --reinstall xserver-xorg` - move the existing /usr/share/X11/fonts somewhere, then do `cd /usr/share/X11 && ln -sf ../fonts/X11 fonts` ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => High -- xserver fails to start - missing FontPath in xorg.xonf https://launchpad.net/bugs/88254 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I can confirm this on my MSI MegaBook S262 with ipw3945. Upon initial setup of knetworkmanager, it does not detect my home wireless network signal immediately (which, although I have configured to not currently broadcast its SSID, should have been detected by knetworkmanager anyway as a network); I had to open the tray icon's dialog and select `Connect to other wireless network' and manually connect from there. [Bug 69208] Re: Bug #42299 survives on upgrade from Dapper Drake to Edgy
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 42299 *** I can confirm this on my Kubuntu Dapper -> Edgy upgrade on an MSI MegaBook S262. I thought this was an occurence of #31312, but that was only part of the bug. Setting Importance to Medium: I do think many users who really care for hibernate functionality are seriously affected by this bug. ** Changed in: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided => Medium Status: Unconfirmed => Confirmed -- Bug #42299 survives on upgrade from Dapper Drake to Edgy https://launchpad.net/bugs/69208 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 31312] Re: failed resume from hibernate leaves corrupted/unmounted swap partition
My swap space is at /dev/hda5 per /proc/swaps . The result of `file' before hibernating is: /dev/hda5: Linux/i386 swap file (new style) 1 (4K pages) size 403624 pages After hibernating and subsequent (failing) resume, `file' now emits: /dev/hda5: Linux/i386 swap file (new style) with SWSUSP1 image I suppose that is normal. As for /proc/swaps after hibernate, it is empty (as I should expect, since swapon fails.) -- failed resume from hibernate leaves corrupted/unmounted swap partition https://launchpad.net/bugs/31312 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 31312] Re: pmi action hibernate = normal shutdown
I seem to be hitting this bug under Kubuntu 6.10, upgrading from Dapper using a multitude of dist-upgrades.[0] However, in my case, upon the boot just after hibernate, it seems that my swap partition could not be read, forcing the mounting process to bypass it. A manual `swapon` doesn't work either, borking with an `Invalid argument' message. [0] http://zakame.spunge.org/blog/2006/11/01/my-kubuntu-edgy-upgrade- experience/ I seemed to have found a workaround however, by booting with `resume=/dev/hdaX' on the the kernel CLI (and removing `ro' to mount / read-write, as leaving that will force me to do `mount /dev/hdaX / -o remount,rw` on a sudo.) -- pmi action hibernate = normal shutdown https://launchpad.net/bugs/31312 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 66266] Re: must unload, reload ipw3945 module after hibernate
I can confirm this on my MSI MegaBook S262 running both Kubuntu Dapper and Ubuntu Edgy. The two workarounds do just as nicely. ;-) Setting Importance to Low for now, as I believe users may probably just want ipw3945 working in and out of hibernation. ** Changed in: acpi (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low Status: Unconfirmed => Confirmed -- must unload, reload ipw3945 module after hibernate https://launchpad.net/bugs/66266 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 61349] Re: postinst error: update-rc.d uses nonexistent `multiuser' setting
Setting to Medium Importance, I do think a lot of desktop users do care about being able to view Flash on their systems without breaking dpkg (--configure) in the process ;) ** Changed in: flashplugin-nonfree (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged => Medium -- postinst error: update-rc.d uses nonexistent `multiuser' setting https://launchpad.net/bugs/61349 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 61349] Re: postinst error: update-rc.d uses nonexistent `multiuser' setting
A proper fix would be to backport `sysv-rc', but I don't think that's desirable given we have upstart, if I understand it correctly ;) -- postinst error: update-rc.d uses nonexistent `multiuser' setting https://launchpad.net/bugs/61349 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 61349] postinst error: update-rc.d uses nonexistent `multiuser' setting
Public bug reported: I just dist-upgraded my Dapper today, and found out that flashplugin- nonfree didn't set itself up correctly. Turns out that it borked during postinst, since it was invoking the `update-rc.d' tool incorrectly, trying to use a nonexistent `multiuser' runlevel group. My fix was to change `multiuser' to `defaults', but I'm not sure if this is the right fix. At any rate, however, that action did satisfy `dpkg --pending --configure`, and I got my dpkg sane again. ** Affects: flashplugin-nonfree (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- postinst error: update-rc.d uses nonexistent `multiuser' setting https://launchpad.net/bugs/61349 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
