[Bug 1801071] Re: XPresentPixmap() BadWindow, recompiling fixes it
I consider this a regression from 16.04 to 18.04. However, installing from eoan on 18.04 resolved this set of issues for me: https://packages.ubuntu.com/eoan/amd64/libxpresent1/download It would be great to get this into other versions as it seems like a trivial fix. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1801071 Title: XPresentPixmap() BadWindow, recompiling fixes it To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libxpresent/+bug/1801071/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: I just ran realized this line, "if failed checksum then unmonitor", in /etc/monit/templates/rootbin and /etc/monit/templates/rootstrict is causing me grief. Basically if one updates the packages that are using these templates they will become unmonitored which seems suboptimal. Monit is probably not the tool to be using as an IDS. I am considering these options: "if failed checksum then alert" - basically keep alerting about the checksum until the checksum is updated, a process that is not well documented. Easy to reproduce. [Bug 1277655] Re: Monit fills logs when reading 0 byte pid file
Is this is the only error you have seen in the log file? Or there are others? This is the only message I think, there is - e.g. monit tries to restart this service. If this is the case - this is expected. This is not the case, monit is not trying to restart the service, it is entering a tight loop trying to read the PID file, as I stated. All of my monit configs have the number of restarts limited. And you should fix this service - pid file shouldn't be empty! Obviously, but that does not change the fact that this bug exists in monit. Monit should fail gracefully, handling an empty PID file the same way it would handle a non-existent PID file. ** Changed in: monit (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1277655 Title: Monit fills logs when reading 0 byte pid file To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/monit/+bug/1277655/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Christopher, Can you explain how the commit you linked to resolves this issue? The commit seems to place process permissions checks on /proc/pid/stat and /proc/pid/wchan. I do not see how this affects the available entropy unless entropy is being depleted by unauthorized processes accessing those endpoints, which does not seem very likely to me. I doubt I will have time to test trusty before it is released, but once released I will test within a virtual server to see if this issue has been resolved. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/575669 Title: Rapid depletion of entropy pool To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/575669/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 575669] Re: Rapid depletion of entropy pool
Christopher, You did not address my previous question as to why that patch would resolve this issue. Am I correct in assuming that you are requesting that I reproduce these conditions in the unreleased 14.04? It should be noted, if not reflected in the bug status, that this is still a confirmed bug for 10.04 LTS and 12.04 LTS. Since the status of a bug may be different for different releases is it the case that the bug status on this ticket is just meant to reflect the state in the current development release? This is not made clear in any of the documentation I've read. For people coming across this bug report who have experienced application blocking issues due to low available entropy (usually running under some sort of virtualization) one easy solution is to install the haveged package and run that daemon. Whether that provides adequate security is open for debate, but it will prevent application hangs while waiting for sufficient entropy.

[Bug 1179119] [NEW] libapache2-mod-rpaf error on remove
Public bug reported: This has been reported before but not well articulated. libapache2-mod- rpaf requires a successful restart of apache and a call to a2dismod to be removed. This should not be necessary, it is not for other modules. I switched to nginx and then wanted to remove apache. On a live server I should not have to stop nginx, start apache (with an old configuration) just to remove a package. [Bug 940030] [NEW] rsyslog stops working after logrotate until restarted
Public bug reported: This could otherwise be titled, rsyslog reload does not create log files; only restart does. This is happening on a number of machines I work on. It's happening on 10.04 and 11.04. It might be similar to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rsyslog/+bug/407862 But in my case after the restart there is no /var/log/syslog being created, nor auth.log, kern.log, etc. The files are rotated, rsyslog is reloaded, and none of the log files are created and nothing is being logged. I ran into this today. If I understand correctly the privilege drop happens before the chown though it should be the other way around, the chown should happen while root and then privileges should be dropped. The horribly bad thing about this bug as people have probably noticed is that trying to delete the .xsession-errors file will not recover the free space. Here are the other changes, from my notes: * control build depends - change cdbs version * control build depends - change python-dev version * control build depends - add python-support * control X-Python-Version from 2.7 to current * rules add DEB_PYTHON_SYSTEM = pysupport * rules macvtap support (as mentioned above) ** Affects: libvirt (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/849672 Title: make libvirt trivial to backport to lucid To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/+bug/849672/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I came across this bug as I was going to report a bug that the -server and -virtual kernels conflict in lucid. I can see that this conflict is still necessary as of 2.6.32-33: http://packages.ubuntu.com/lucid-updates/amd64/linux- image-2.6.32-33-virtual/filelist I have noted that this was fixed in later releases (maverick, natty). People should be aware that cache=writeback should only be used if you do not care about the very real possibility of guest disk corruption should the guest or host fail unexpectedly. [Bug 378240] Re: Please merge xen 4.0.1-2 (main) from Debian unstable (main)
For anyone that's interested I've packaged Xen 4.1.0 and 4.0.1 for Ubuntu. So far I've only released on 10.04 but I hope the debs will work for other Ubunutu versions, and Debian as well. My strategy was to create a package that duplicated the Xen install without all the extra packaging done by the Ubuntu and Debian packages. I've also catered to my needs, so at the moment no SDL and no pvgrub. Still it's a lot easier than compiling Xen on every single server. You can find them here: https://launchpad.net/~agent-8131/+archive/ppa They seem to work well with the Debian 6.0 Xen kernel. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/378240 Title: Please merge xen 4.0.1-2 (main) from Debian unstable (main) -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 785681] Re: Unable to unblank screen, cursor still present
This bug report looks like what I have experienced on my system. I want to distinguish this from other bug reports about blank screens or blank screens. With this bug the entire screen is black but the cursor is still visible and the desktop still works. I have only had this happen after leaving the computer for an extended period though it doesn't happen every time I leave the computer for an extended period. The screensaver has activated and the desktop has locked. When this happened this morning I was able to verify that despite no login box being visible I was able to log in and my mouse cursor reflected my desktop contents (namely that the cursor changed to reflect the google map that had been on my desktop the night before). This is using gnome classic with effects and I believe it to be a bug with the Intel video driver. This bug may be misdiagnosed as people may not realize their desktop is still responsive. This is not the same as bugs 780653 or 762918 as they have been reported though some people commenting to those bugs may actually have this issue. This issue may also be related to those issues. I mean to try the following suggestions next time: sudo pkill X or sudo killall -w -s KILL compiz DISPLAY=:0.0 compiz --replace -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/785681 Title: Unable to unblank screen, cursor still present -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
