[Bug 1547302] Re: "Check disc for defects" boot option displays no text some flavors
Hi, I was chatting with wxl on #ubuntu-release and he told me that I don't need to install anything, I just need to test the "Check disc for defects" so I just did and I confirm comment #8 .. I get blank screen and nothing else. Blank black. I was testing: Ubuntu GNOME Desktop i386 build: 20160224.3 Testing the same build on Oracle VB seems just fine. So yes, it's on real hardware. Thanks! P.S. To be more accurate, the LiveUSB I used was made by UNetbootin. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1547302 Title: "Check disc for defects" boot option displays no text some flavors To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/casper/+bug/1547302/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 966480] Re: The prompt asking for media removal is not shown at the end of the installation
Hi, I must confirm that I am seeing this bug with Oracle VirtualBox since very very long time. I can see the bug has been reported on 2012-03-27 which explains a lot and I am seeing it with: Ubuntu GNOME Desktop i386 build: 20160224.3 I've seen it too with the previous releases. However, weird enough, I never faced it with ToriOS even though ToriOS is based on Ubuntu 12.04.5 and maybe that's why? not really sure. Also, I'd like to double-confirm that I always test using Oracle VirtualBox so I have no idea how it is with real hardware. I have no spare hardware to test real installation on. I only test Ubuntu GNOME (due to very very limited time) and the spare old machine I have can't handle Ubuntu GNOME AFAIK and it's a broken laptop connected to a TV I use it as media player with ToriOS installed. While this bug is not very serious/critical, IMHO it would be great if we could fix it at least with 16.04 :) Thanks! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/966480 Title: The prompt asking for media removal is not shown at the end of the installation To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/plymouth/+bug/966480/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1547793] Re: upowerd crashed with SIGSEGV in g_variant_is_trusted()
@flocculant Yes, I was seeing the very same issue on Oracle VirtualBox which is installed on my laptop. Wxl suggested to remove the battery and try and indeed, it did not happen when I removed the battery. I thought because it's a virtual machine, that won't affect or happen when I remove the battery but I was wrong. So, once you remove the battery whether on real hardware or virtual, you won't see this. As long as the battery is plugged in, you will see it. However, it seems it is fixed now :) I'm installing and so far so good. [Bug 1462688] Re: ubi-timezone failed exit code 1 error when installing UbuntuStudio Wily-15.10 32bit version
Hi again, this is an updated :) I turned off the network connection and tried to install Ubuntu GNOME Wily Werewolf Beta 2 (amd64) on Oracle Virtualbox 5.0.2 and finally, the error message did not show up at all :) Also, I got the world map to choose my timezone. So, in short: if you turn off your connection (you're offline), you should not see that bug. It seems (not 100% sure yet) it is happening when Ubiquity is detecting the timezone based on the Internet connection of the machine that you're using to install the system. Hi, for those who are trying to help to fix this bug, I thought to copy-paste this information from IRC (#ubuntu-release channel): amjjawad: ianorlin: if you manage to reproduce it, it would be great if you could add a traceback to the bug running ubiquity with --debug might help there. amjjawad: ianorlin: if you manage to reproduce, I'd be interested if you could modify ./usr/lib/ubiquity/tzsetup/post-base-installer to add a 'set -x' near the top and go back/forward again in the installer to get the crash to happen again (hopefully), then add syslog to the bug report --- Also, I'll try to do the installation while the machine is OFFLINE. [Bug 1462688] Re: ubi-timezone failed exit code 1 error when installing UbuntuStudio Wily-15.10 32bit version
Apparently, this bug has been around even before Beta 1 for Wily Werewolf cycle. I have done many tests and none of these has failed. All the installations were just fine. However, the only way for me to do that is to click "Continue anyway" and then a successful installation. I talked to Martin from Ubuntu MATE team and he was unable to produce it. I see here some people had failed installations. I am not sure why it is giving different results but all my tests were fine as long as I click on "Continue anyway" and nothing crashed at all - tests done in Oracle Virtualbox 5.0.2 not a real hardware. I am testing Beta 2 now (Ubuntu GNOME) and this bug is still alive. To me, it is not critical as of now as long as I can skip it. @Tim Does it make any difference if I choose: "Try Ubuntu GNOME without installation" and then do the manual test? I followed the test case as it is and did choose: "Install Ubuntu GNOME" and then the manual test. I'll try to re-do that for the 3rd time now and see if that would change anything and I think I will choose: "Try without ..." option just in case that would make any difference and it would be easier to get log, hopefully. [Bug 1418268] [NEW] Ubiquity does not finish the installation (manual/something else) on Ubuntu GNOME 14.04.2
Public bug reported: I'm testing: http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/332/builds/88799/testcases Ubuntu GNOME Desktop 14.04.2 amd64 and I'm using Oracle Virtualbox. Steps: 1- Start the virtual machine. 2- Choose "Install Ubuntu GNOME" from the menu. 3- Choose "Something else". 4- At the last slide and while it says: "Copying files ..." the installer will stop and can't go further. 5- The system itself is not frozen; when I click on: "Learn more about Ubuntu GNOME from: the one stop page", Firefox will open the link normally so I know the system is not on freeze, it is the installer. I have repeated this test twice with the very same result. ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1418268 Title: Ubiquity does not finish the installation (manual/something else) on Ubuntu GNOME 14.04.2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1418268/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

When I tried to re-produce this bug, I had a previously installed Ubuntu GNOME Utopic Unicorn RC and when I tried to do the manual installation, I removed/deleted the old partitions and created new ones. Then, installed and everything was just fine. It seems this is a hard to re-produce bug and I was trying to find out whether it is fixed or not so we won't mentioned that on Ubuntu GNOME 14.10 Release Notes but since it affects only one user as of this very moment, I will keep it on the release notes and will not remove it. [Bug 1361951] Re: Utopic installation freezes during partition creation
I could not produce this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1361951 In my case, everything was just fine. However, I must say that in my case, there is only one Hard Drive, not 2 Hard Drives as in the bug report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1361951/comments/2 So maybe the bug appears when there is 2 Hard Drives instead of 1 ? Also, I installed it inside a Virtual Machine where there was a previous installation so I had to 'delete' the previous partitions, re-created new partitions (root and swap) and then installed the system. All was fine and worked like a charm. In summary, everything is just fine and I couldn't produce the bug :) Note: I added the above note to the ISO Tracker! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1361951 Title: Utopic installation freezes during partition creation To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1361951/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1325498] Re: A plug-in (google talk plugin) is not responding in chromium
This is a reply to my comment: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source /chromium-browser/+bug/1325498/comments/3 In fact, Chromium Version 34.0.1847.116 Ubuntu 14.04 aura (260972) on Ubuntu GNOME 14.04 LTS is giving me hard time but it is different story - not the google talk plugin - please see: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2230718 This is JUST to update the information here and to confirm that Chromium is not working okay at all on both 12.04 and 14.04 :) Also, I learned that Chromium on 14.04 is using: http://dev.chromium.org/developers/design-documents/aura It does NOT use that on 12.04 ... I'd like also to add that on Xubuntu, my workaround for this issue was installing Google Chrome BUT this is just a workaround, not a real fix. As for Chromium on Ubuntu GNOME (while might be irreverent here), I didn't install Google Chrome but rather this: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Chromium/Getting-Flash and Chromium is NOT yet 100% fine, still need to do some actions twice like uploading a picture on Facebook or clicking a link. But yes, no more this screen - see attached. Luckily, I have Firefox as another browser I always use. However, I really need two browsers and I'm more comfortable with Chromium than Chrome but let's be honest here ... it seems that Chrome is working better for some reason ... That is all for now. [Bug 1205384] Re: Lock can be circumvented by switching to console
>From reading the comments and following up with this issue and the whole process of removing 'xscreensaver' and replace it with whatever suppose to work to lock the screen but it is not actually working, it appears that there is/are some package or files or whatever you call it is 'still' somehow (yes, odd enough) using 'xscreesaver' and this SHOULD be fixed :) Long story short, 'xscreensaver' does not exist and it is not shipped by default with Lubuntu 13.10 so I fail to see the point why when someone who wants to lock his/her screen that he/she should see a message like - see comment #52 - "Failed to execute child process "xscreensaver- command" (No such file or directory)" ??!! @L K (koziollz-v) I believe this new and fresh installation of yours has no xscreensaver installed, correct? or have you installed it? because if you have installed it then YES, the process is not working by default and you need to manually add xscreensaver to the autostarter app. I also fail to understand why there isn't any progress in this really nasty and critical bug!!!
