[Bug 870524] Re: Banshee goes 100% CPU and becomes unresponsive
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 854845 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/854845 Experianced the same issue here, v2.2.1 on Ubuntu 11.10. Even tried v2.3.4 but same issue. Eventually resolved by making the window width as small as possible so that only two columns of covers showed. Then scrolled down one by one to find the album that makes Banshee becomes unresponsive. It will be the last to appear while scrolling down. Then killed banshee, removed the two albums that were at the bottom of the view, reloaded Banshee and refreshed library. Problem solved. Obviously some sort of corruption or incompatability in a specific MP3. I dont think this issue is a dupe of #854854. No error is shown in the debug output and the cause is definatly just scrolling to a specific place in the library. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/870524 Title: Banshee goes 100% CPU and becomes unresponsive To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/banshee/+bug/870524/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I thought I was experiencing this problem, but all I had to do was modprobe pcspkr and then beep works without specifying device or any other arguments. [Bug 507723] Re: New Install 9.10 No boot Bios block3 damaged error.
I ended up writing the laptop off :( Had a few people look at it including a BIOS geek and the general verdict is beyond economical repair. Anyway, I see there are a few more reports coming in, all Toshiba's affected a very low number of reboots after installing Ubuntu. So, perhaps there is something connected to Ubuntu here? How do we re-open the bug by changing the status back to New as Connor Imes suggested in comment #3 ? If Ubuntu is bricking laptops I think it should be investigated ASAP. I no longer have the laptop so wont be following this anymore, but I'll document what I found out: The laptop just displays the error message instantly after power on, no POST checks, no attempt to boot from HD, CD or USB flash. As it is asking for a maintenance disk I tried a USB floppy drive and you can hear it is accessing the floppy when you press any key, but nothing happens and the error remains. I tried a couple of DOS boot disks, even putting the BIOS update files on one. The maintenance disk is apparently simply a floppy with rewritten code on the first few sectors that bypassed any kind of checksum or self- diagnostic. - http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/50509-35-toshiba- 445cdx-bios-damage-error-message Whether that would even help and whether there are any disks even in existence, I don't know. I have searched a few common places for ISO and images etc, nothing. The only other thing that I changed is that I had installed a new hard disk and RAM before installing Ubuntu. Did anyone else make hardware changes before the install? Thats it folks, good luck and I hope you all get your machines to boot again! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/507723 Title: New Install 9.10 No boot Bios block3 damaged error. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 507723] Re: New Install 9.10 No boot Bios block3 damaged error.
Same error: BIOS(Block1) Damaged after installing Ubuntu 10.04 x86 32bit from the Alternate CD on a Toshiba T9100. From the nature of the error message I too assumed it was not related to Ubuntu, but finding this bug report certainly raises some questions! So I thought I'd add my experience to the list of reports... I did get Ubuntu to boot a couple of times, installed updates and tested everything, all seemed OK, had to disable suspend but thats not unusual, but then after returning the laptop to its owner, the first time they booted it they just got this message. -- New Install 9.10 No boot Bios block3 damaged error. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/507723 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 584252] [NEW] gnome-typing-monitor annoyances (bugs?)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center The new version of gnome-typing-monitor included with 10.04 appears to have undergone many changes. Personally I don't like any of them, I'm not sure if they are bugs as such or the intended new functionality? Let me explain… 1. The old versions indicator icon acted as a progress bar, starting grey and filling with green as the work interval progressed. This would give a good indication at a glance of how soon the next break would be. The new version seems to be a solid green bar no matter how far through the work interval you are, you actually have to hover over the icon to get an indication of the duration remaining. 2. A minute or two before the break kicks in the old versions icon would start flashing red, the flashing was good as it would catch your eye allowing you to find a convenient place to cease work. The new version does change to red, but does not flash, making it much easier to miss. 3. When the icon is (flashing) red and the break is about to kick in, using the old version you could find a convenient place to cease all keyboard and mouse activity and wait for the duration of you break interval, and the progress indicator icon would reset, without a break activating. With the new version the break seems to activate once the icon has turned red, even if you're not using the mouse or keyboard for the last minute or two. Especially annoying if you've just full screened a video and sat back! 4. As a side note, when not using compiz, on my dual display (NVIDIA TwinView) the screen isn't greyed out properly, it's almost like the overlay is misaligned between both screens allowing some areas down the sides and bottom of the screens to be exposed and still interactive. The greying works perfectly using compiz. I think this also affected the old version. Anyway, I have copied the gnome-typing-monitor binary from my 9.10 install and it seems to be working fine, so although these points no longer affect me, I thought I would post my observations, especially as I have googled this on several occasions and found nothing but lots of people complaining about the missing/broken icon which did not affect me. Yes the fix seems to work for me too, thanks schuetza! :) I assume its not permanent?, but I haven't rebooted yet, and probably wont till the next new kernel! [Bug 470604] Re: Window List buttons do not always respond to mouse clicks
I too can confirm this bug... It started after an upgrade to 9.10, and is still present after a clean install, although I am still using the same home folder - I may try creating a new user soon. I can also confirm briefly moving the mouse off the bar and back on again one or more times allows a click. I can not confirm enabling visual effects to help as everything is sooo slow after enabling and then it reverts back to disabled within a minute. I don't use visual effects anyway, but I know it used to work fast because I tried it for a while a few releases ago. -- Window List buttons do not always respond to mouse clicks https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/470604 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
