[Bug 1652185] Re: kernel BUG at /build/linux-7x12eW/linux-4.4.0/drivers/ata/sata_mv.c:2120!

2017-02-24 Thread Brendon Baumgartner
Google sent me here. I know I'm not ubuntu. Sorry. I experienced this
issue on these:

1. debian backports linux-image-4.9.0-0.bpo.1-amd64 4.9.2-2~bpo8+1
2. linux-image-4.6.2 (custom compiled)

I got around these issues by booting this debian kernel : linux-
image-3.16.0-4-amd64 3.16.39-1+deb8u1

And then I was able to use the system long enough to discover the drive
was bad. Once replacing the failed drive (which appears to be what
exploited this bug), I booted back into linux-image-4.9.0-0.bpo.1-amd64
4.9.2-2~bpo8+1

Once in 4.9 I ran the appropriate mdadm commands to get the array to
start rebuilding. The array is currently rebuilding in 4.9 and the issue
appears to gone. (before the server wouldn't stay up for 3 minutes.
uptime is now 22min).

[Bug 958142]

2015-09-25 Thread Brendon Higgins
Perhaps not surprising, but it seems vertical extent/placement is also
affected by this. I was running a script (in Konsole 15.08.0) which
prints names of files it's processing, and noticed some lines that
happened to contain a Я (Cyrillic capital Ya) character in the filename
were misplaced downwards by a couple of pixels when using the Oxygen
Mono font (9pt).

Can confirm same behavior on Ubuntu 14.04 using Unity. Tried creating a
custom hotkey to toggle mpc using my keyboard's Fn key and F4 but it did
nothing. The same custom keybinding with just F4 works, however.

[Bug 1168197] Re: 'USB Keyboard+Smartpad' not detected as touchpad in 'Samsung Ativ Smart PC Pro 700t'

2014-05-17 Thread Brendon Green
I also have this hardware (Samsung XE700T1C-X01AU), and am determined to
do whatever I can to get this device 100% supported by GNU/Linux and
Android. My distribution of choice is Debian, but will definitely
install Ubuntu if it will help get this issue resolved.

My current situation is as follows:

Windows 8.1: Everything works

Fedora 20 (UEFI Boot): Keyboard worked up until yesterday, but with
reliability issues. Smartpad only ever worked in legacy mode.

Debian Sid (UEFI Boot): Keyboard dock works for a few minutes, then stops.
Upon disconnect then reconnect, spams dmesg with:
[ 1293.983396] usb 1-1.3: clear tt 1 (0070) error -71
[ 1293.987397] hid-generic 0003:04F3:0740.0008: can't reset device,
:00:1a.0-1.3.1/input1, status -71

Please let me know what I can do help to resolve this bug. If I can get
involved with kernel/driver hacking, I'm up for that too.

[Bug 1200364] [NEW] Not displaying correct windows in Window Buttons when using multiple Window Buttons applets on multimonitor

2013-07-11 Thread Brendon Rapp
Public bug reported:

I've been experiencing this one for a while.

I have three monitors, each with its own Panel on the bottom of the
screen, and each panel has a Window Buttons applet.

On initial boot, the applets do *not* show the buttons for windows on
that monitor.

What I have to do on each boot is:
  1. Open Panel Preferences
  2. Open the config for each Window Buttons applet
  3. Check Show Windows from All Monitors (which immediately populates the
applet with buttons for ALL windows)
  4. Uncheck the very same box (which removes windows from other monitors,
keeping only the windows for its own monitor)

After doing this, the Window Buttons applet on all monitors will behave
as expected - adding and removing buttons for windows as they enter and
leave that screen.

But until I do this little toggle trick to wake up the applet, they
all simply Know Nothing, Jon Snow, and just stay blank.

[Bug 1067320] Re: 1002:6798 [fglrx] VT cursor is visible and blinking on top of Unity Radeon HD 7970 and 5450

2013-03-20 Thread Brendon Rapp
Along the same lines as Sebastian H., I solved this problem by disabling
framebuffer (specifically, by uncommenting the GRUB_TERMINAL=console
line in /etc/default/grub, and re-building the grub config).

I may try uvesafb like Sebastian did to restore framebuffer
functionality, but it's not a pressing issue for my use case.

[Bug 562742] Re: r8169 ethernet MAC address changes in 2.6.32 kernel

2010-05-03 Thread Brendon Colby
Confirming same behavior on Jetway J7F4K1G5S-LF motherboard with
integrated Realtek NICs:

00:09.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8110SC/8169SC

00:0b.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8110SC/8169SC

I just upgraded from Hardy. The first few reboots were fine, then udev

changed:

[Bug 562742] Re: r8169 ethernet MAC address changes in 2.6.32 kernel

2010-05-03 Thread Brendon Colby
As suggested in the Debian bug report (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=573007), I am doing this as a workaround:

In /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules, map the broken MAC
addresses to eth0 and eth1.

So far this works between reboots, although when I tested the previous
Lucid alpha, it would rename my interfaces constantly between reboots.
Fortunately, this is my network router so I don't reboot that often.

[Bug 346759] Re: firexfox shuts down when opening divx player

2009-03-22 Thread brendon
Do you have the latest Firefox? I'm on 3.0.7 now, I don't know what
release of Ubuntu your on?

I was researching and trying to find where firefox puts their error log,
but I couldn't find any such thing...

Perhaps you can open a terminal and run the command firefox to open a
firefox session, and then reproduce the situation to make it crash by
going to a site with divx. Then when it crashes tell us if there is
anything like an error message printed into the terminal.

And, such as the previous person said, make sure you have all of the
codecs installed

[Bug 344546] Re: Drop down menu goes behind Adobe Flash Player Plugin

2009-03-18 Thread brendon
I don't believe this to be a bug, but a behavior of the mozilla web
browser in linux. AJAX divs, and the like, simply don't go over the
flash plugin in z-index behavior because of the way in which the free
flash plugin prints to the screen. I've read about this many times.

Here is a link that explains a work around for this:

[Bug 343389] Re: Inconsistent kerning in Firefox

2009-03-18 Thread brendon
I can help confirm this, as an experience web developer I know these
things.

I'm attaching 2 images which demonstrate the problem clearly.

image: webpage.png
This shows the webpage as seen through the browser, and you can see that the
first line is MUCH longer than the second line.

image: html.png
This shows the html source for the same webpage in raw text format, and you can
see that the 2 lines end in exactly the same place.

It's clear that the browser is processing the first line differently
than the second.

My test was done using Firefox 3.0.7 in Hardy.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 345189 ***

Of course it shouldn't be like that, but out of curiosity, did you try
setting the desktop font sizes? We might want to clarify if this is a
problem with the font settings for your specific language.

Please right click on the desktop and click Change Desktop Background,
then click on the Fonts tab at the top.

You should see a list of fonts and font-sizes which you can configure
for your desktop, windows, and menus there.

Maybe you can try playing with the sizes to see if that helps. Attached
is an example image of how my font's are configured.

[Bug 183242] toshiba shutdown

2008-01-15 Thread brendon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: acpi-support

Toshiba Satellite A30-714

Been all over google for ages now, you are my last hope before installing a
different OS, please help, I really like Ubuntu.

Whether from the System-Quit or from command line shutdown -h now as
root, shutdown is just always a surprise, maybe it'll work, maybe it'll
just hang indefinitely.

when it doesn't work, it's apparent. The screen will instantly go black
and hang forever. two hours, two days, just doesn't shutdown.

I disabled splash screen in a file called orgx or something. added a
line acpi=off or amp=off or something...

not to say that I configured these options incorrectly, just that I've
tried so many things by now that I can't remember every exact character
and don't see the meaning in reciting like as if I were supposed to be a
genius.

bottom line is that I'm not shutting down properly, and I dont' know if
there is any method to check the root of the error?

what log could I check?

do you have a similar problem?

I can see that I'm not alone on this issue, but is there a solution for
it?

hair shy from cursing,
Brendon

[Bug 130475] Re: docbook2x-man emits illegal input sequence errors using iconv

2007-08-09 Thread Brendon Costa
I dint read the message you posted correctly before. I had downloaded
the original source for docbook2x 0.8.8 and tried that, which failed. I
also justthen tried the 0.8.8-4 debian package which also still fails,
though give a slightly better error message:

/usr/bin/iconv: illegal input sequence at position 363
/usr/bin/db2x_manxml: program in pipeline exited with an error

With the info above, i just temporarily remove the PurePerl parser lines
from the config file. That seems to work fine now so that was the
problem.

Thanks,
Brendon.

[Bug 130475] Re: docbook2x-man emits illegal input sequence errors using iconv

2007-08-06 Thread Brendon Costa
Contents of files from above mentioned bug:

--- /etc/perl/XML/SAX/ParserDetails.ini ---
[XML::SAX::Expat]
http://xml.org/sax/features/namespaces = 1
http://xml.org/sax/features/external-general-entities = 1
http://xml.org/sax/features/external-parameter-entities = 1

[XML::SAX::PurePerl]
http://xml.org/sax/features/namespaces = 1

Dont know if this is helpful but below shows the result of ls -l, which
i assume returns the order readdir would return for the given
filesystem.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ls -l /etc/perl/XML/SAX/ParserDetails.d
total 8
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 181 2007-08-04 16:27 XML::SAX::Expat
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root  66 2007-08-04 16:27 XML::SAX::PurePerl

This is on an ext3 formatted filesystem with dir_index enabled.
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo tune2fs -l /dev/sda2 | grep dir_index
Filesystem features: has_journal resize_inode dir_index filetype
needs_recovery sparse_super large_file
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$

So it is likely to be the same problem described above. I had tried
building and testing with docbook2x 0.8.8 previously and got the same
results. A good way of demonstrating it is to build from source and then
run make check.

[Bug 130475] docbook2x-man emits illegal input sequence errors using iconv

2007-08-05 Thread Brendon Costa
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: docbook2x

I have been using docbook2x-man for a while now, however recently I
installed all security updates (I had a base Fiesty system before) and
docbook2x-man fails to convert any refentry docbook files to man format
emitting the following error:

/usr/bin/iconv: illegal input sequence at position 136

Following is a list of the apt-cache show docbook2x this is reproduced
with, however I think the problem resides in one of the dependencies or
in docbook2x-man's usage of one of the other packages it depends upon
which would have been updated.

ALSO: Note the Bugs: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] line? That is
apparently incorrect. I sent an email to the list and was asked nicely
to file a bug report here and that the specified list is not a valid
place to report bugs.

[Bug 70023] Cannot print multiple copies of PDF files

2006-11-02 Thread Brendon Gleeson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

Specifying more than 1 copies in the print dialog has no effect, only a
single copy is printed regardless. I suspect this to be an issue with
the new GTK print dialog?

** Affects: evince (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Unconfirmed

[Bug 53241] British keyboard layout not working

2006-07-17 Thread Brendon Gleeson
Public bug reported:

Keyboard: Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro

It seems to be something to do with the british layout, when i select
usa from the gnome-keyboard-swithcher-applet-thingy everything is dandy
(except the key mappings ofcourse), but when I select GBr it gives me
borked characters like this: ¨ and ´ (that is double and single
quotation respectively) and my gnome shortcuts don't work ie. alt+tab,
ctrl+alt+(left/right) etc.

Everything was finr in Breezy, something must have broken when I dist-
upgraded to Dapper?

** Affects: xserver-xorg-input-keyboard (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Untriaged
 Status: Unconfirmed

** Changed in: gnome-applets (Ubuntu)
Sourcepackagename: gnome-applets = xserver-xorg-input-keyboard
