You are right, I should not have changed the status, since this error
can be reproduced to other users. At the moment no problems have
occurred again. After being able to receive the latest update

Yesterday, the problem occurred. But recently I was going to reproduce
the problem, and when I did sudo apt update but this time the update of
the MySQL8.0 package worked.

$ mysql --version
mysql Ver 8.0.37-0ubuntu0.24.04.1 for Linux on aarch64 ((Ubuntu))

[Bug 2065110] [NEW] Problems playing Full Screen Videos

2024-05-07 Thread Cesar Nieves
Public bug reported:

Anytime I try to play a video full screen it will work for a second or
two. The I get a black screen for a second and the video will keep
playing but only on the top left corner, the task bar (I have it at the
bottom) will start flashing in and out. Audio plays fine all time.
Maximazing the app works. I have use the default video player as well
as VLC and Haruna Video Player (Haruna is the only one I have found to
play the next video on a folder by pressing the next fwd buttom).

[Bug 2061936] [NEW] Chrome starts, but runs wild in the bg (never gets to the screen). chromium works fine.

2024-04-16 Thread Cesar A. Quiroz
Public bug reported:

This started today. The chrome snap was automatically updated (updates
to chrome have been arriving fast). After the update, chrome started
failing:

* Clocking on the launcher succeeds, but nothing pops up to the screen.
The UI freezes (can't even updated htop on a term).

* Right clicking on the launcher icon, followed by choosing Quit
restores responsiveness, but there is no chrome.

* chromium launches fine.

Both images come from the same snap.

[Bug 1969977] [NEW] info (GNU texinfo) 6.7 segfaults in ubuntu 20.04.1

2022-04-22 Thread Cesar Rabak
Public bug reported:

The Standalone GNU Info documentation browser /info/ fails with a
segfault in a Ubuntu focal fossa recently updated system:

If issued with --help, it also prints 42 lines of information (in
Portuguese).

Any attempt to see documentation be it by asking a node, e.g. 'info

The message says the core dumped has been stored, but I still didn't
manage to find where to get a look with gdb.

Yes, and Tcl being a multiplatform language has sometimes inside the programas
this one does a test on which OS is running and act accordingly.
I also hope maintainers take a look soon. In fact, it seems that in an
earlierrelease of the package the move to use the defautl interpreter was
commented but for some reason didn't see it performed in the releases for
Ubuntu up to the version I tested.

Whether or not the application starts, ubuntu-bug still adds information
based on the package. I pulled up a random example, if you take a look
at the last section in bug 1558370, that's automatically added info on
package version, the Ubuntu release and architecture. (Fair enough, for
an interpreted language the CPU architecture often doesn't matter, but
there are cases where some bugs only happen on certain hardware and it
is not possible to reproduce elsewhere).

In this case, it's pretty straight forward to recreate. (And the
suggested solution looks good, I hope the maintainers will take a look
at it soon :) ) But there are cases where it helps with the additional
information to tell if the bug might have been fixed in a newer release,
or if I'm missing something.

Status in visual-regexp package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:

However newer versions of Tcl have wish8.6 installed.

A solution would be to remove the specific version on the shebang line

Re: [Bug 1921803] Re: visual-regexp fails to start complaining “wish8.5” not found

2021-03-31 Thread Cesar Rabak
Hi Hans,
Thanks for the reply!
W.r.t. use of apport, there could not be anything in apport as the application
didn't start at all, isn't it?
A do ask this, because I found another error in this package, now related to
the Help button which also will not reflect in apport at all...
Tcl being an interpreted language will issue its messages and for the OS it
would as have been business as usual, am I right?
I then followed the workflow in the page asked for a single liner, and them
offered a pane for further info.
Was I supposed to anything else?
If you don't mind of hand holding on this I'll wait your directions as I
already wrote, we found another funny bug when clicking the Help button.
Again Thanks for the answer to the bug report and in advance if you could
clarify the apport functionality.
Regards,--Cesar Rabak

Thanks for taking your time to report this issue and help making Ubuntu
better.

I can confirm I get the same error message when attempting to run
visual-regexp 3.2-0ubuntu2 on Ubuntu Hirsute.

Btw, when reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. This will add
additional information such as version numbers and release affected. You
can learn more about this functionality at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 1921644] [NEW] doc command as per man page fails due missing dependency

2021-03-28 Thread Cesar Rabak
Public bug reported:

According picolisp man page (about 50th line):

Here you can access the reference manual

  : (doc)

and the online documentation for most functions,

  : (doc 'vi)

However when installed through apt this fails with the info that 'w3m'
is not available.

Once apt install w3m is performed, the documentation function works like
a charm!

Please include the w3m as dependency for picolisp package.

Re: [Bug 1878007] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 freeze on Dell inspiron 7373 when screen is turned off

2020-05-20 Thread Carlos Cesar Caballero Diaz
Tested. Is present also in the latest drm-tip kernel.

There is something I have found that may help:
If I install Ubuntu 16.04.0, the issue is not present, but once I update
(apt-get upgrade) the problem appears, but there is the interesting detail:
if I start the upgraded 16.04 with the initial kernel, the issue is still
happening, so... Maybe is not a kernel related issue? Or a mix of the
kernel and something else?

** Description changed:

This issue is happening with Ubuntu 18.04 and 20.04 in a Dell Inspiron
7373. When the screen is turned off (so, the suspend or screen lock
features are affected), the system freeze and I need to force the laptop
turn off and on again. There are some cases when it turn off the screen
without issues, but most of the time it freezes. Even "SysRq REISUB"
does not work for rebooting when system crash. I can reproduce the issue
  using `xset dpms force off`.

Initially this bug report was filled thinking it was a suspend issue:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1832144

Syslog or systemd journal does not provide any error information about
  the crash.

One of the main issues with this bug is that I can't find what package is
causing it, because I can't find any information in system logs about the
crash.

The issue is definitely not in the suspension, the freeze is happening
when the screen is turned off. It can be reproduced using: "xset dpms
force off"

[Bug 1832144] Re: Ubuntu 19.04 suspend freeze on Dell inspiron 7373

2020-01-05 Thread Carlos Cesar Caballero Diaz
@emilio96 I think it's not a hardware problem, I just installed a xenial
based distribution and suspend worked just fine in the clean
installation before installing any updates, so the issue has being
introduced in some update. It doesn't seem to be the kernel, because
after the update I have started with the initial kernel and the problem
remains. It's maybe related with xorg or video controllers. I will make
a clean install again and start updating only some packages to find
which one introduced the issue.

[Bug 1832144] Re: Ubuntu 19.04 suspend freeze on Dell inspiron 7373

2019-09-23 Thread Carlos Cesar Caballero Diaz
Ok, I have found a new clue, I have disabled the suspension in the
energy configuration, but when the screen goes off the system equally
freeze, so, or the system is ignoring the config options and is still
suspending (I don't think so but is a possibility), or the crash is not
specific of the suspend process and is more related with the screen off
process or video driver.

[Bug 1832144] [NEW] Ubuntu 19.04 suspend freeze on Dell inspiron 7373

2019-06-09 Thread Carlos Cesar Caballero Diaz
Public bug reported:

I have installed Ubuntu 19.04 in my Dell Inspiron 7373 and I am getting
issues with suspend. When I lock the case or write the "systemctl
suspend" command, the screen turn off, the system freeze and the laptop
keeps turned on. I need to force the laptop turn off and on again. There
are some cases when it suspends without issues, but most of the time it
freezes.

There are some workarounds for issues like this one but they are mostly
for laptops using nvidia graphics.

I am not sure how to provide debug information about this issue, but I
can give it if someone tells me how to do it.

2019-05-01 Thread Cesar Pulido
Public bug reported:

[Bug 1725384] Re: On touch screens, the apps icon in the dock does not open when touched

2018-09-05 Thread Carlos Cesar Caballero Diaz
Same issue here in 18.04 using a Dell Inspiron 7373 (2-in-1) and xorg, I
can confirm that "gnome-shell --replace" solves the dock issue, but
seems that multi touch gestures stop working after that.

This specific issue is not present using Wayland.
