[Bug 1079440] Re: 8086:27a2 [Dell MP061] i945: Random complete freeze using dual monitors

2013-11-21 Thread cmavr8
Christopher, I guess this is an automated response but I'll ask you
anyway: How would I know if this is against the kernel or the graphics
driver? Does anyone else have a clue?

Keith, why are you suggesting that it's been fixed?
Comments 56, 57, 58 and mine suggest otherwise...

Thanks :)

[Bug 1079440] Re: [Dell MP061] i945: Random complete freeze using dual monitors

2013-11-20 Thread cmavr8
I experience the same, in a 13.04 Lenovo Thinkpad X201s with i915
graphics. Updated but not upgraded to 13.10. Latest BIOS flashed
yesterday. Problem existed before and after flashing.

The following phrase (copied from another comment) describes my experience
exactly:
After a few minutes it freezes up in such a way that mouse movement can be
seen but nothing can be clicked or typed. Forced rebooting with the power
switch is the only option.

Most logs in /var/log show nothing interesting. The event happened a bit
before time 39909 so here's Xorg.0.log's relevant part (attached).

It only happens when I try to wake the screens up after they have turned
off. If I disable screen auto off function I am fine. Ctrl+Alt+Backspace
works so I just relogin. Very annoying when I have virtual machines
running though... they get shut off improperly.

2013-11-20 Thread cmavr8
Sorry, regarding my last comment, the last sentence of the quoted text
is not accurate for me, as I explained later in the comment.

Also, should I gather more info? Using apport-bug --save
/tmp/foo.apport from a new tty while the X system is frozen? Or restart
it and then invoke apport-bug?

Thanks

I'm also experiencing the problem, but I CAN go back to different ttys

So, I am asking, shouldn't we open a new bug?

I had this bug's problem and also the fact that my shortcuts are forgotten on

So I made a script that is run upon login and restores my custom shortcuts:

I wonder which is the correct way to try to elevate this issue and let

have them subscribe? Or should we open an idea at

Increasing the update interval makes things worse.

Anyway, this issue is not a gnome-power-manager bug, but an indicator-

[Bug 1008050] Re: After resume from suspend, power-indicator is unaware of battery changes

2012-06-07 Thread cmavr8
Thanks for replying Sebastien,
upower -d seems to awaken the indicator!

Great discovery, I can invoke the command in a script inside /usr/lib
/pm-utils/sleep.d/ so we may have a workaraound!

Anyway, please find attached the upower -d results, but I think they
don't matter since indicator is also working after the first upower -d.

[Bug 942885] [NEW] battery-indicator not updated

2012-02-28 Thread cmavr8
Public bug reported:

When I take my (thinkpad) laptop off AC power, I hear the AC-
disconnected sound, but battery-indicator is not updated. Estimation is
not shown, and the icon remains unchanged, it's as if it's still on AC.

In order to restore normal operation I have to click on the icon, and
click on the first menu item, so that gnome-power-statistics opens. From
that point on the indicator works correctly and shows the continuously-
updating estimate.

I think it only happens if I had used suspend/resume.

Sorry I don't know how to debug this, any tips? I'm not even sure if
gnome-power-manager is the package responsible.

Thanks

[Bug 899670] [NEW] Nautilus crashes when opening folder with .JPF file

2011-12-03 Thread cmavr8
Public bug reported:

Opening a folder that contains .JPF files (even if it's just one)
crashes nautilus after 1-2 seconds.

In my terminal I get:
nautilus: jpc_dec.c:1077: jpc_dec_tiledecode: Assertion `dec-numcomps == 3 ||
dec-numcomps == 4' failed.
Aborted

Personal comments:
1. Bug identical to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/jasper/+bug/488597 but for different
package? Sorry if I double-posted...

2. I do not know if it's related/affecting but I always get the
following warning MANY times each time I start nautilus:

** Description changed:

  - Suspending is successful. Resuming results in random flashing artifacts on
screen.
GUI is working ok if you manage to see through the artifacts but it is very
hard so I just restart.

  - Happens every time. Tried nomodeset in kernel line of grub but no go.

  - Running Ubuntu 11.10 64-bit updated.
  - Don't know which package is responsible, sorry...

It is ridiculous that we lost this feature when default (and ubuntu-

Please try to fix this!
Or just vote to change back to pidgin!

Thanks

Running apport is very hard, if not undoable. GUI is almost unusable
after resume, and network is down which makes remote running impossible.

Please let me know how I can provide more help.

2011-11-24 Thread cmavr8
I re-reported the bug as suggested by brad-figg.
Here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/894308

BTW: Marco's solution did not work for me either in 64-bit Ubuntu 11.10.

[Bug 894308] [NEW] [Acer Aspire 5100] suspend/resume failure

2011-11-24 Thread cmavr8
Public bug reported:

- Suspending is successful. Resuming results in random flashing artifacts on
screen.
GUI is working ok if you manage to see through the artifacts but it is very
hard so I just restart.

- Happens every time. Tried nomodeset in kernel line of grub but no go.

- Running Ubuntu 11.10 64-bit updated.
- Don't know which package is responsible, sorry...

$ cat /proc/version_signature
Ubuntu 3.0.0-12.20-generic 3.0.4

[Bug 858188] Re: Network manager fails to reconnect after suspend/resume

2011-10-23 Thread cmavr8
@jsalisbury I will report it as soon as the site is back online..

Until it's fixed, I found a dirty workaround for people that suffer from
this, like I do:

Add the line killall -9 NetworkManager in file /usr/lib/pm-
utils/sleep.d/55NetworkManager in the end of suspend_nm() function
(right before the }).

This command kills NetworkManager service without mercy every time
suspend is called. Network Manager is automatically resurrected so I
have my wifi working again after resuming...

Anyway, I'll report here when I post the bug report upstream.

[Bug 425273] Re: sftp error

2010-02-03 Thread cmavr8
Hello, I'm experiencing the same annoying bug!
I went ahead and installed dbgsym package of nautilus (nautilus-dbgsym) and did
the backtrace.

Instead of crashing (which is normal when cut-pasting to an sftp
location) nautilus hangs. I'm not sure why this happens, but it happens
only if I run it using the degub symbols.

Anyway, I'm attaching the produced files. I can provide more info if needed.
Thanks for your time!

[Bug 360713] Re: Poor display performance w/Intel 945GM, cannot enable desktop effects

2009-04-21 Thread cmavr8
I had problems setting up more than 2048 width for the virtual screen.
Even with 3D effects completely disabled, scrolling through a web page
or document is a pain...

Does scrolling work OK under windows?
(can't test it, now windows here)

2009-03-31 Thread cmavr8
Broken in latest Development updates!
Fixed in Alpha5, Broken in Beta?

Please mark as important. It is VERY annoying for laptop users.
(docking/undocking or sleep/resume causes the bug)
It should be easily fixable.

Public bug reported:

On a laptop running Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope 9.04 Alpha 5,
while playing a flash video (Adobe Flash Player Plugin 10) in Firefox (3.0.7),

when I change system's volume using the laptop's hardware buttons the
video image (not sound) freezes momentarily.

Every time I change volume it freezes for a few milliseconds.
