[Bug 1201046] [NEW] Even basic help options are missing from the whiptail dialog
Public bug reported: Basic help for using the whiptail dialog need to be present in the package reconfiguration dialogue that may be presented to the user after updating grub. For instance, that TAB moves from option to option, SPACE toggles options, and ENTER moves on to the next step. There are no help options for how to work the dialog presented to the user. The typical user isn't going to know how to work a whiptail dialog. They are not even going to know that the dialog is presented by a program called whiptail, and so are not likely to read its man page. English documents are printed in something like Tibetan script, for example. --- AddonCompatCheckDisabled: False ApportVersion: 2.9.2-0ubuntu8 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: chris 2337 F pulseaudio BuildID: 20130417085609 Channel: Unavailable DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.04 ForcedLayersAccel: False IfupdownConfig: auto lo iface lo inet loopback InstallationDate: Installed on 2012-09-02 (242 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal - Alpha amd64 (20120902) IpRoute: default via 192.168.1.254 dev wlan0 proto static 169.254.0.0/16 dev wlan0 scope link metric 1000 192.168.1.0/24 dev wlan0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.1.67 metric 9 192.168.122.0/24 dev virbr0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.122.1 MarkForUpload: True MostRecentCrashID: bp-bc188100-3ee6-4b60-ba94-d93422130218 Package: firefox 20.0+build1-0ubuntu2 PackageArchitecture: amd64 Plugins: Gnome Shell Integration - /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libgnome-shell-browser-plugin.so (gnome-shell) IcedTea-Web Plugin (using IcedTea-Web 1.3.2 (1.3.2-1ubuntu1)) - /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-amd64/jre/lib/amd64/IcedTeaPlugin.so (icedtea-7-plugin) iTunes Application Detector - /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/librhythmbox-itms-detection-plugin.so (rhythmbox-mozilla) Shockwave Flash - /usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer.so PrefSources: prefs.js [Profile]/extensions/{3d7eb24f-2740-49df-8937-200b1cc08f8a}/defaults/preferences/flashblock.js ProcEnviron: TERM=xterm PATH=(custom, no user) XDG_RUNTIME_DIR=set LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.8.0-19.29-generic 3.8.8 Profiles: Profile0 (Default) - LastVersion=20.0/20130417085609 (In use) RelatedPackageVersions: gnome-shell 3.9.1+git20130430.18107d56-0ubuntu1~13.04~ricotz0 icedtea-7-plugin 1.3.2-1ubuntu1 rhythmbox-mozilla 2.99.1-0ubuntu1~raring1 RfKill: 0: phy0: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no RunningIncompatibleAddons: False SubmittedCrashIDs: bp-bc188100-3ee6-4b60-ba94-d93422130218 bp-540d1d94-16cf-4a90-8171-cda8a2130218 bp-1cd27ba4-b8fa-4656-92ba-2d9562130126 Tags: gnome3-ppa third-party-packages raring Uname: Linux 3.8.0-19-generic x86_64 UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to raring on 2012-12-17 (136 days ago) UserGroups: adm cdrom dip libvirtd lp lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo WifiSyslog: May 2 15:06:45 dellie-linux wpa_supplicant[1867]: wlan0: WPA: Group rekeying completed with 20:76:00:07:b0:d4 [GTK=CCMP] May 2 16:06:44 dellie-linux wpa_supplicant[1867]: wlan0: WPA: Group rekeying completed with 20:76:00:07:b0:d4 [GTK=CCMP] May 2 17:06:42 dellie-linux wpa_supplicant[1867]: wlan0: WPA: Group rekeying completed with 20:76:00:07:b0:d4 [GTK=CCMP] May 2 18:06:41 dellie-linux wpa_supplicant[1867]: wlan0: WPA: Group rekeying completed with 20:76:00:07:b0:d4 [GTK=CCMP] dmi.bios.date: 12/07/2009 dmi.bios.vendor: Dell Inc. dmi.bios.version: A14 dmi.board.name: 0G848F dmi.board.vendor: Dell Inc. dmi.chassis.type: 8 dmi.chassis.vendor: Dell Inc. dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnDellInc.:bvrA14:bd12/07/2009:svnDellInc.:pnInspiron1545:pvr:rvnDellInc.:rn0G848F:rvr:cvnDellInc.:ct8:cvr: dmi.product.name: Inspiron 1545 dmi.sys.vendor: Dell Inc. ** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-collected gnome3-ppa raring third-party-packages ** Attachment added: ScreenShot showing Evince and Firefox rendering same pdf https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1175849/+attachment/3663202/+files/FirefoxPDFviewVsEvince.png ** Tags added: apport-collected gnome3-ppa raring third-party-packages ** Description changed: Often when I view pdf documents online using firefox's built in PDF viewer, the chosen character encoding or font is wrong. - So the text is unreadable. Public bug reported: If I start the computer, and choose a unity session, I can't switch users. When I try to use the menu to select a new user, the screen goes blank. It is working as expected. System-config-printer finds my printer and the first choice is AppSocket JetDirect for protocol. [Bug 926968] Re: cups-pdf doesn't follow AnonDirName setting
Trying to understand the log file generated, I think this is happening because Ubuntu now recognizes any anonymous user (guest) and gives them a temporary Home in /tmp/guest-home.xyz So in /etc/cups/cups-pdf.conf Out ${HOME}/PDF is followed and it does not get to the setting AnonDirName (or any other setting dealing with anonymous users). So these settings for anonymous in cups-pdf.conf will never come into effect on Ubuntu so long as it has this policy of giving temporary home dirs to any guest user. How can this situation be remedied? Should there be a special user for cups like guest-print, with different abilities than the current guest? I think the whole logic of this will have to change. I'm no expert. All I want is to be able to anonymously print documents on an ipad to a pdf printer and then have them show up in a directory in Ubuntu. And I want current real users on Ubuntu to be able to use their own directories to save PDF files. Changing to invalid, since there is nothing that can be done absent further changes in Ubuntu to make cups-pdf anonymous use work. ** Changed in: cups-pdf (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/926968 Title: cups-pdf doesn't follow AnonDirName setting To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups-pdf/+bug/926968/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
