[Bug 189774] Re: seahorse shows passwords without verification

2011-01-27 Thread csoler
Indeed. I want also to stress that this is a very serious security issue
(e.g. when working in environments with multiple working people, in the
train, etc). Before ending here, I just figured out that I could display
my login passwd in seahorse without any security barrier as well. It
basically takes 10 secs for anybody to read one's login passwd in clear
text.

Please do something !!!

Hi,

I'm updating with the following info:

- we now successfully make packages for Jaunty, Karmic, Lucid and Maverick,
- we'll be releasing version 0.5.1 quite soon by Christmas.

Best regards

[Bug 522116] [NEW] Packaging RetroShare

2010-02-15 Thread csoler
Public bug reported:

Hi,

We've finally come up with an alpha version of RetroShare 0.5
(http://retroshare.sourceforge.net)

RetroShare is a file exchange / mail / chat / forum plateform based on
PGP authentication and SSL communications. It allows multi-hop F2F file
transfer, from multiple/partial sources.

We already have a script to make a source Ubuntu package, that compiles cleanly
with pbuilder for karmic and jaunty (32 and 64 bits. The only ones I tested).

We would really enjoy RetroShare to be available as an Ubuntu package.

Thanks & Regards
Cyril Soler, by name of the RetroShare dev team.

[Bug 50534] Re: Disk mount applet can not mount a luks encrypted partition

2008-08-03 Thread csoler
It's not really an issue anymore:

- nautilus does not display anything about this encrypted partition (There's
nothing in /etc/fstab, maybe that's the reason)
- to mount it, I use "pmount /dev/sda8", which works fine on condition to add
"/dev/sda8" in /etc/pmount.allow

Si I've created a launcher to call this properly. Of course this would
be nicer if nautilus was able to handle it properly.

[Bug 204238] Re: compiz crashes randomly when using a Qt OpenGL Widget

2008-06-24 Thread csoler
Good news, well I hope so...

I wanted to use nvidia-settings to tune antialiasing parameters, and I
realized that compiz does some pretty nasty manipulations of displays
when used in combination with Xgl (It runs on display :2.0 or :3.0. It
seems that the nvidia driver can only access display :0.0, so the
nvidia-settings program complained that I didn't have the nvidia
driver...)

Never mind, I uninstalled package xserver-xgl, rebooted, and now it
seems that I don't get this stupid crash anymore (I had to really reboot
to get rid of the bug. Logging out was not sufficient appearantly). Of
course, I can't tell for sure this is a 100% working workaround, but I
really tried a high number of times (40? 50?) and still no crash.

@all: Could you do the same manipulation i.e. removing xserver-xgl,
reboot, and retry. This could help spotting the problem.

As a side effect, compiz works perfectly without xgl. Why do I have this
installed ?? Good question. Maybe it's a heritage from previous ubuntu
versions where xgl was needed to run Beryl and co.

really when openning the window that something wrong is done (not by me

[Bug 204238] [NEW] compiz crashes randomly when using a Qt OpenGL Widget

2008-03-20 Thread csoler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz-core

I have produced in attachment a very elementary code that shows up the
bug.

To reproduce:
- compile the code in attachment using Qt4
- launch/kill the produced executable a couple of times
- usually it takes a very short number of attempts to get logged out (between 1
and 3 for me).

I tried to setup a crash handler in the Advanced Desktop Settings tab,
but it did not help me.

Configuration information:
- Linux cortinaire 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Tue Feb 12 02:46:46 UTC 2008 x86_64
GNU/Linux
- OpenGL renderer string: GeForce 7800 GT/PCI/SSE2
- OpenGL version string: 1.2 (2.1.1 NVIDIA 100.14.19)
- libQtOpenGL.so.4.3.2

How to reproduce:

[Bug 202811] [NEW] Luks encrypted usb key does not mount

2008-03-16 Thread csoler
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 7.10, fresh install.

When I plug my luks-encrypted usb key, the dialog always pops up asking
me my passwd. I enter it, and ubuntu creates the
/dev/mapper/luks_crypto_ device, but this device never gets
mounted in /media.

For now, I'm bound to using "pmount /dev/sdc" in a term to get the
original device mapped and mounted at once.

I followed the instructions on
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingRemovableDevices, and produces the
following files:

udev.log
gvm.log
lshal.txt
dmesg.txt
devices.txt
id.txt
id_hal.txt
id_haldaemon.txt
uname_-a.txt
hal.log

These are attached below.

Note: Martin Pitt asked me to make this new bug report, although it can
appear to be a doubling of bug #78848.

It shows that something in the kernel went wrong, perhaps the driver
ipw3945 is in an infinite loop ?

- logging out does not correct the problem. If I log in again, the computer
halts on a black screen (probably when network manager tries to connect again)
- soft rebooting does not work: the computer hangs when trying to shut down web

[Bug 78848] Re: LUKS removable volume not mounted automatically

2008-03-12 Thread csoler
I've got the exact same problem. After entering my luks passwd (for a
usb key), I get a device in /dev/mapper:

crw-rw 1 root root 10, 63 Mar 12 13:14 control
brw-rw 1 root disk 254, 0 Mar 12 13:15
luks_crypto_12254561-aad8-4e50-9a13-10cd4f0892ba

...that is never mounted. I added the following line to
/etc/udev/rules.d/20-names.rules:

KERNEL=="dm-[0-9]*", NAME="%k", SYMLINK+="%c"

but it did not change anything (even after reboot).

Is it that the name luks_crypto_ does not correspond to the string
"dm-[0-9]*" ??

Thanks

I installed a new gusty from scratch, updated to get

libvolume-id0-113-0ubuntu17
volumeid-113-0ubuntu17
udev-113-0ubuntu17

The behavior is still the same (I rebooted since then, of course):

when I insert my luks-encrypted usb key, the passwd dialog pops up, I
enter my passwd, then I only get a device labeled luks- in
/dev/mapper, but nothing is mounted in /media/

I really don't think the fix actually work (at least for me!).

[Bug 148003] Re: mounting Luks encrypted USB-HDD does not work reliably

2008-02-12 Thread csoler
Sorry to insist on a matter that may be simple to you, but:
- I installed packages udev and volumeid 113-0ubuntu16mh1 from these
repositories (checked with dpkg -l)
- I rebooted

But the behavior is still the same: when I insert my luks usb key, I get a
label in /dev/mapper, but nothing in /media.
Did I miss anything ?

Thanks a lot. How should I use this ? Do I need to use 'patch' on this file,
or is the backport going to turn into an update soon ?

I forgot to say (in the good-news list) that now, it is possible to

[Bug 48196] Re: gnome-hal fails to handle encrypted HD partition correctly

2007-07-09 Thread csoler
I'm using Feisty now, and things have changed:

- I can mount the partition using pmount ("pmount /dev/sda6"), and it
gets mapped to /media/disk, which makes sense.

Still, I have strange behaviour:
- just after mounting, I get a graphical message (from nautilus ?) saying that
only root can access my disk, which is obviously wrong since I can browse it
afterwards
- once the disk is mounted, hal (or pmount ??) seems to remember my passphrase
(I can click on the disk in the disk mounter utility, select mount, and the
disk mounts without passphrase), which is something I do not want at all: I
expect that, when umounting the device, the passphrase should not be stored
anywhere. That's a large security hole. And that's a new behaviour. Is-there a
config file to change that ?

[Bug 107422] Unexpected display of /etc/group nfs entry in the user setting interface.

2007-04-18 Thread csoler
Public bug reported:

When using a user/passwd nfs server one needs to add +::: in /etc/group and
+:: in /etc/passwd. This produces
unwanted entries in the user setting interface (empty lines with just a '+').
These should be filtered I guess, because it does not correspond to a specific
user name.

[Bug 107420] Incorrect update of /etc/group when changing user's main group

2007-04-18 Thread csoler
Public bug reported:

Hi,

After changing my main group in the system->administration->users and
groups interface from csoler (the default, which is also my login name)
into users, the file /etc/group was not changed accordingly: I expected
to see that the "users" group would have a new entry named "csoler" (my
login name), but it did not.

[Bug 50534] Re: Disk mount applet can not mount a luks encrypted partition

2007-04-15 Thread csoler
I'm sorry, but this was a long time ago, and I'm now using edgy. In the
present case, the disk mounter applet does not display anything about
the encrypted partition, and I mount it using:

pmount /dev/sda6 private

this mounts the device in /media/private.

To answer your question, the fstab does not contain anything about
/dev/sda6.

Indeed, I don't want this device to be mounted everytime, but only on
demand. I guess your fstab is also empty of encrypted disks.

In nautilus, the 2G volume appears in the left column (in 'Places') but
clicking (or double-clicking) on it does not produce result.

I also posted a bug about the disks manager (#50538) which may be

[Bug 50538] Disks manager does not recognize format of luks encrypted partition

2006-06-21 Thread csoler
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I have a 2GB luks-encrypted partition on my HD, (which is handled properly with
pmount-hal when login in) but
the 'system->administration->Disks' application does not recognise the format
of the partition (displays "unknown").

Also, when entering an access path (to replace "none") and clicking on
'Enable", nothing happens.

[Bug 50534] Disk mount applet can not mount a luks encrypted partition

2006-06-21 Thread csoler
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I have a luks encrypted partition (2GB) on my HD which appears as an
icon in the disk mounter applet. When clicking on the icon, I get a menu
with entries "mount 2GB volume" (enabled) and "open 2GB volume"
(disabled, which makes sense). Still ok.

Now, when I click on "mount 2GB volume", nothing happens, and I'm not
asked for a passwd, although when I log on, pmount-hal asks me for one
and I can still choose to mount the partition when loging in.
