2013-10-27 Thread cyco

Until now, in Ubuntu nothing happened. This fix only exist in Debian
and needs to be merged and pushed into 13.10.
The Status changed to "Fix Rleased" cause lanchpad detected the
referenced Debian bug is marked as fixed.

Anyways ... the question is: Why didn't got the package fixed _before_
the release of 13.10 as the nagios-plugins 1.4.16-3 was uploaded to
Debian on 23th Aug, with just only bugfixes (one fixing a bug reported
in Ubuntu). This is a sign for a very bad release strategy in my eyes.

Sorry, this binaries don't have suid set. I guess you did change that on
your own. Maybe you should have a look into
/usr/share/doc/nagios-plugins-basic/README.Debian.gz:

plugins needing root privilege

the check_dhcp, check_icmp and maybe others plugins require root
privileges to
run, because of the low-level packet mangling that they perform.
but, in the interest of the "safe default", these plugins will not
be installed with the suid bit set. there are two recommended ways
about overriding this on your system:

- set the suid bit with dpkg-statoverride:

# dpkg-statoverride --update --add root nagios 4750 $plugin

where $plugin is the specific plugin you want to grant such privileges.

- use sudo to grant the permissions and modify your plugin config

of these two, the first is recommended because it's the simplest and
has the same effect as the second.

> breaks all host checks, since the nagios user can't ping any host
> without it.

The default configuration is to use check_ping for the host check.

[Bug 1031680] Re: check_apt always report 0 critical updates

Also an option is to port check_apt to use libapt-pkg[1]. This has the
advantage that libapt-pkg is providing a stable api and we don't need to
parse output of apt-get/aptitude.

The easiest way to get changes into upstream is to send pull
requests[2].

[Bug 1031680] Re: check_apt always report 0 critical updates

2013-06-28 Thread cyco
Sorry guys .. this ist _NOT_ a security issue (at least no one of
nagios-plugins).

Opening a but upstream might a good idea, but upstream doesn't work on
debian systems. So it's up to you guys to present (useful and senseful)
patches which might be adopted upstream.

If anybody want to rely on apt-check, you should spin off a separate
plugin and try to incorporate that into the nagios-plugins-contrib
package! Anyways ... nagios-plugins-contrib also provides
check_packages, maybe you give it a go.

Cheers, Jan (with Debian Nagios-Plugins Maintainers hat on).

Recent upstream version is 1.4.16, same as in Ubuntu and Debian!

Anyways .. I would have a look into the options "--debug" and

[Bug 1098337] Re: IPPlan does not install

2013-01-23 Thread cyco
As (former) debian maintainer of this package, I would recommand to
remove this package from ubuntu ... there is a open RFA[1] and it looks
like nobody is willing to adopt the package which will lead into
orphaning the package in debian. The project seems dead also upstream.

that's true, but this is the same for "apache2" as you reported first:

$ LANG=C /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_procs -C apache2
PROCS OK: 7 processes with command name 'apache2'

okay ... so you know this won't get fixed (from debian side and this
seems likely in ubuntu too). anyways ... it's not a problem in
nagios-plugins but in linux-meta.

Did you? Anyways ... removing it from Ubuntu seems the only valid option
for now, as upstream stated (with my own words):

* don't use patches from anybody else except upstream
* only use released versions (no scm snapshots)
* he just created php-suhosin for himself and published the code, we
shouldn't expect anything

So it looks like there will be no solution to get php-suhosin working
with a recent PHP version soon nor will this software be maintainable
for longterm in a distribution (in the actual situation).

Just my 2 php-suhosin packager cents. Cheers, Jan.

What about installing just "nagios-plugin-basic"? "nagios-plugins" is also
depending[1] on "nagios-plugins-standard" which have (at least) on Ubuntu
couple of depencies[2], also on "smbclient".

In debian we have moved a bunch of dependencies to recommands with 1.4.14-2,
which gives you the possibilty to get rid of those packages by deinstalling
them or avoiding automatically installing recommanded packages. Anyhow ... the
ubuntu package has this changes reverted for an unknown reason.

Just my 2 cents, Jan.

Looks like 'rm /lib/tls/*.so.*' resolvs my problem. Maybe you want to close
the ticket. Thanks!

There is another version between 4.92-1 and 4.92a-1, just uncritical and
minor changes:

 ipplan (4.92-2) unstable; urgency=low

   * Updating standards version to 3.8.4
 - Add README.source
   * Migrate Vcs-Fields over to scm.uncompleted.org

[Bug 565781] Re: ipplan incompatible with php 5.3

2010-04-18 Thread cyco
Hi there,

I have uploaded a new package to debian unstable some minutes ago:

ipplan (4.92a-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New Upstream Release
- PHP 5.3 compatibility (LP: #565781)
  * Add trailing trunk/ at Vcs-Svn-field
  * Update 10_custom_templates.dpatch due upstream changes

The changes from 4.92 are minor, so I would recommand to sync from
unstable, if you are willing to fix this in lucid.

Cheers, Jan.

[Bug 515436] Re: Inactive dnsbl

2010-02-02 Thread cyco
Hi Andreas,

at first, I have nothing todo with ubuntu I'm just the maintainer
of the package in the Debian distribution, where the package is used by
Ubuntu without any changes. So I can nothing do for you within ubuntu.

Anyways ... back to the problem. Jaunty doesn't need to be fixed, it is
fixed allready. (see http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=policyd-
weight) So you problem is just hardy. I wouldn't say, this little
problem qualifies for an update for a allready released distribution,
but thats just my personal opinion. In debian we did decided[1] not to
update the package for stable.

With kind regards, Jan.

[Bug 515436] Re: Inactive dnsbl

2010-02-02 Thread cyco
That could easiely solved with /etc/default/policyd-weight. Installing
without reading documentation and understanding, what the software is
doing, is nothing we can fix as (debian) distribution.

Speaking as debian maintainer of the package, Jan.

2010-01-28 Thread cyco
hi there,

could you please try to remove gettext and just keeping gettext-base,
this should ship all needed files for running openvas-adduser. Please
give feedback, so i'm able to fix that within the next debian version
(which gets hopefully imported by ubuntu).

Thanks, Jan.

[Bug 486790] Re: openvas-server is missing openvas-nvt-sync script

2010-01-06 Thread cyco
The script will just fetch the plugins, but some scripts require the
nes-plugins, which are provided by openvas-plugins-base and are binary
packages. So just grabbing the openvas-nvt-sync script will not fully
solve your problem.

[Bug 498715] [NEW] segfault when changing brighness

2009-12-20 Thread cyco
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xfce4-power-manager

Bug description:

When I start my laptop usually the screen brightness is set to minimum. I have
xfce4-power-manager running in e17. However trying to increase the screen
brightness using the function keys fails.
Running xfce4-power-manager --no-daemon in a terminal gives the following
output:

(xfce4-power-manager:2106): xfce4-power-manager-WARNING **: could not
map keysym 1008ffa8 to keycode

and pressing one of the brightness function keys results in a segfault
.
However after setting the brightness manually via: echo 7
>/sys/class/backlight/sony/brightness
xfce4-power-manager works fine and setting the brightness works.

Backtrace attached.

[Bug 240644] Re: [regression] eps file blank in evince 2.24, renders correctly in 2.22

2009-12-07 Thread cyco
I'm also experiencing this bug with several of my eps files. This seems
to be happening mostly with eps files generated with matplotlib. Once
the same files are converted to pdf or are included inside latex
documents (both ps or pdf output) they display fine. I've filed a bug
upstream (bug 604037 on bugzilla.gnome.org).

[Bug 449360] Re: automatic proxy configuration doesn't work

2009-11-01 Thread cyco
I can confirm this bug. Gnome proxy settings are set to automatic proxy
configuration (a pac file location).

Starting epiphany from the CLI results in a message:
*** PAC found, but no active PAC runner! Falling back to direct...

and obviously no page is loading as my network does not allow direct
connections. Automatic proxy configuration in firefox works fine.

Ubuntu Version: Karmic Koala
epiphany --version
GNOME Web Browser 2.28.0

Using webkit engine (epiphany-webkit). I've also tried installing mozjs
or various additional webkit packages, but this did not help.

Which php.ini file do you use and do you use libapache2-mod-php5 or cgi?
What about the following:

Restarting the webserver and you will be fine.

[Bug 318703] Re: nagios check_smtp expects integer instead of double

2009-02-05 Thread cyco
Hi,

upstream stated the following:

"The proper fix would rather be using the nagios thresholds functions. OTOH
it's more likely that we put time toward implementing the new thresholds
format than fixing plugins that were never converted to the old one.

Feel free to attach a working patch if you wish - we'll consider it
anyway. Otherwise a quick fix would rather be fixing the documentation."

Please provide further informations to launchpad and the upstreambug
too.

Thanks, Jan.

[Bug 297747] Re: Doesn't follow other plugin package conventions

2009-02-01 Thread cyco
Hi Scott,

just a statement from my (debian maintainer) side. The name is just a result of
upstream package name (which I just did take over). Installing the check
command templates not into /usr/share/nagios-plugins/ but to
/usr/share/nagios-snmp-plugins/ is just normal, since they are related to an
other source package.
The only problem is the use of /usr/share/nagios-plugins/dpkg/functions shipped
by nagios-plugins-basic
, I will fix it by depend on nagios-plugins-basic or maybe copy over the file
into the package itself with the next version of the debian package.

With kind regards, Jan.

[Bug 247968] Re: there was a problem when tryiny to instal ispCP in Ubuntu

2009-02-01 Thread cyco
Anyhow ... packages <= 0.1.14-beta-6 did write the mentioned directory
into /tmp/ ... so it should no problem unless you updates directly from

it was not released and the package was upgraded to this package
version.

So I think its okay to close the bug, cause the issue was just
"temporary" in hardy while it was not released.
