[Bug 204665] [NEW] German KDE translation incomplete since hardy (was perfect in gutsy)

2008-03-21 Thread da1l6
Public bug reported:

On a clean install of kubuntu hardy beta (Alternate CD, language set to
german), about 50% of the strings in KDE application menus are
untranslated.

The menu bars are almost completely untanslated, the menu entries are partially
translated.
Message dialog message texts are translated but the buttons are only partially
translated.

This is a serve regeression over the amost perfect Gutsy translation.
It will kill plans here to use Hardy in production, bacause some users are not
speaking english.

[Bug 135613] Framebuffer consoles no not work in gutsy

2007-08-29 Thread da1l6
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.22-10-generic

Framebuffer consoles do not work since gutsy. If vga=xyz is specified,
Alt+F1-F6 consoles are all black. uslpash works, but console login is
not possible.

It reproduces on all Systems i have tested so far. (from an old AMD Thunderbird
1Ghz Desktop PC to a brand new 2Ghz SantaRosa Based Notebook)
Note that all System share the fact that they have an nvidia graphics card
(from FX5200 to 8600GM), i currently don't have anything else to test on.

Interrestingly the framebuffer on the Alternate CD seems to work, on the
LiveCD and an installed System it does not.

[Bug 94942] Re: Fails to build with module-assistent against 2.6.20

2007-08-15 Thread da1l6
Same thing here.

I investigated a little bit and the shfs kernel module seems to unmaintained
since 2004.
There are at least 2 kernel changes that make 2.6.20 incompatible with the
module.

However, there is a package sshfs which provides equivalent functionality using
fuse.
Install it and add your user to the fuse group, then do
sshfs Host:RemotePath LocalMountPoint

Unfortunately mount -t sshfs ... does not seem to be supported.

Conclusion: Use sshfs, shfs-source is unmaintained, broken and should be
removed.

[Bug 117496] Edubuntu ltspfs local devices only work on first login

2007-05-29 Thread da1l6
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ltspfsd

Local HardDisk/CDROM/DVD access on Edubuntu ltsp clients only works for the
first user loging in on a client.
Once the user loggs out and the same or another user logs in again local
devices do not show up any more.

Only floppy drives seem unaffected.

Steps to reproduce:
- Setup an Edubuntu Server (Tested: Edgy and Feisty) or install LTSP Server
packets on an existing Ubuntu/Kubuntu installation.
- Add one or more users to the fuse group
- Log in on a client. = Local Devices work
- Log out
- Log in again (same or different user does not seem to matter) = Local CDROM
and Harddrives are not listed any more.

After Rebooting a client devices work again (only for the first user)

Reproduces on (Server):
Kubuntu 6.10 with ltsp server packages.
Edubuntu 6.10 (VMware Installation with no custom configuration at all)
Edubuntu 7.04 (VMware Installation with no custom configuration at all)

This is a critical issue since local device support is useless this way

[Bug 107822] unsermake requires python2.4 which is not listed as dependency

2007-04-19 Thread da1l6
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unsermake

The unsermake build util depends on python 2.4 but feisty ships with
python2.5 by default. Since the unsermake package does not list the
dependency python2.4 will not be installed and unsermake fails to start:

$ unsermake
/usr/bin/unsermake: line 11: exec: python2.4: not found

Installing python2.4 solves the problem

I don't know if unsermake would actually work with python2.5, i think
so, but to do this a lot of paths need to be changed (most of unsermake
is installed to /usr/lib/python2.4).

[Bug 82959] synaptic tries to run gksu on kubuntu

2007-02-02 Thread da1l6
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: synaptic

When installing synaptic on Kubuntu (faisty herd3), it fails to start
from K-Menu or via synaptic in the run command box.

When starting synaptic this way, kdesu pops up asking the user password for
running command gksu synaptic.
This fails since gksu is not installed on kubuntu.

It seems a little absurd, since kdesu is obviosly started. So why use
gksu?

When running synaptic from the terminal it does not try to run as root.

As a work around you can edit the K-Menu entry and put root into the
run-as-different-user Box (the option is already cheked, but the textbox is
empty).
You can also run synaptic as root using kdesu synaptic as command.

[Bug 64531] Re: apt-index-watcher uses way too much system ressources

2006-11-19 Thread da1l6

frequent CPU usage spikes.
The spikes are so short that neither ksysguard nor top list apt-index-watcher

[Bug 68385] Re: eclipse exits with a kdialog error

2006-10-27 Thread da1l6
Hello

Can confirm this. The Eclipse start scipt does not handle the different
dialogs properly.

Looking at it gives me a slight WTF feeling!

The beginning:
if [ -x /usr/bin/zenity ]; then
DIALOG=/usr/bin/zenity
elif [ -x /usr/bin/kdialog ]; then
DIALOG=/usr/bin/kdialog
elif [ -x /usr/bin/xdialog ]; then
DIALOG=/usr/bin/xdialog
else
DIALOG=echo
fi

The last one is especially cool, since this would echo the whole *dialog
parameter list on the terminal! But at least Eclipse would work!

But since kdialog uses diffent options than the one this was tested
with, it fails. Obviously nobody ever tested this with kdialog.

[Bug 61603] Re: nvidia module not found

2006-10-09 Thread da1l6
Not sure if we are talking about the same (this applies to the propitary
nvidia driver):

ALWAYS when updating the kernel to a new revision (during regular system update
with adept-update or apt-get dist-upgrade)
X fails to start on the next boot simply because the linux-restricted-modules
have not been installed for the new kernel version and so the propitary nvidia
driver fails.

This is a critical problem (a X failure alwasy is) especially bacause this
happens without any indication visible to the user.
I noticed this problem since the first Edgy knots but stored it under small
dependency problem, will be fixed soon but it is still present in the beta
state.

The workaround is simple:
apt-get install linux-restructed-modules-$(uname -r)
after every kernel update
