[Bug 1843695] Re: Freeze after suspend to RAM nvidia kernel 5.0.0.x
The patch has already been applied on newer ppa nvidia drivers (e.g. 440.36) from here: https://launchpad.net/~oem-solutions- group/+archive/ubuntu/nvidia-driver-staging The same problem is being discussed here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1836630 So, this should work now on the hardware I specified above. It should take some time till it gets into the official nvidia drivers from canonical. [Bug 1843695] [NEW] Freeze after suspend to RAM nvidia kernel 5.0.0.x
Public bug reported: The computer is a notebook model PB71RD from Clevo. The problem happens in all Clevo models: P960E*, P970E*, P960R*, P970R*, P960RC*, P970RC, PB51E*, PB71E*, PB51R*, PB71R* with mainboard identifiers (cat /sys/devices/virtual/dmi/id/board_name): - P95_96_97Ex_Rx - PB50_70EF_ED_EC - PB50_70RF_RD_RC - P9XXRC and NVIDIA GPU (in this case: GeForce RTX 2060 and also on GeForce GTX 1660 Ti). The problem only happens with kernel >= 5.0.0 and using the NVIDIA proprietary driver. On kernel 4.18 suspend works without problems on both GPU's (NVIDIA and Intel) When using the Intel GPU or the nouveau driver then suspend works without problems. With kernel 4.18 suspend works without problems on both GPU's. | NVIDIA proprietary | Intel GPU | nouveau | | kernel 4.18| works | works | works | | kernel 5.0.0.x | no suspend | works | works | I have tried different proprietary drivers, official Ubuntu Versions and from PPA: 418 430.26 435.21 The notebook has a hybrid GPU configuration with NVIDIA and Intel GPUs. The notebook goes into suspend when pressing the suspend button (Fn- suspend). When pressing the suspend button again, the power button light goes on and nothing else happens. | power button | power LED | Battery LED | HD LED Notebook on | on | on| on | sporadic suspend | off | blinking | on | off freeze after | on | on| on | off activated from STR The system is a Ubuntu 18.04.3 cat /etc/issue: Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS \n \l uname -a: Linux test-notebook 5.0.0-27-generic #28~18.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Thu Aug 22 03:00:32 UTC 2019 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux I first thought that it could be an ACPI-Problem. I reluctantly tried acpi_osi=linux and all other OS's (as listed in: strings /sys/firmware/acpi/tables/DSDT | grep -i windows | sort) for GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT in /etc/default/grub Also acpi_os_name=linux Also tried to blacklist the nouveau driver. Nothing helped. Then i found out that a driver from pop-os launchpad worked. I posted a possible solution on the button of this message. LOGFILES: I will attach now the logfiles as required on the Ubuntu Website DebuggingKernelSuspend (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend) dmesg.txt from: sh -c "sync && echo 1 > /sys/power/pm_trace && pm- suspend" I think the problem might be this: [2.797119] Magic number: 2:1:0 [2.797623] memory memory48: hash matches Answers to DebuggingKernelSuspend: 1. the system freezes when comming back from STR 2. suspend was activated by pressing: Fn+suspendButton 3. resume was activated by pressing: Fn+suspendButton 4. I tried a USB Ubuntu 12 installer and it refused to boot off it (the same key worked in another system) so the BIOS seems really fussy. [Bug 1081311] [NEW] Unity does not match (stack) R Commander windows in the launcher
Public bug reported: The R Commander that is basically a GUI for R (see www.r-project.org, I've installed it from USC) runs with the CLI in its background. However, even though both of the instances have the same name in Unity's launcher (it's R Commander), they are shown as two separate icons (not stacked under one). [Bug 1041446] [NEW] GRUB hangs if a disk is connected
Public bug reported: I have a Gigabyte G33M-DS2R (Core2Duo) system currently running 10.04.4. I tried to boot a 12.04.1 (amd64 server) ISO and it hangs unless I unplug the disk so the BIOS doesn't see it. If I unplug the disk, then plug it while the kernel loads I can install onto it but rebooting onto it hangs. I see absolutely no debugging information though - the last message on the screen is Updating DMI Pool Data which is from the BIOS. I tried holding down shift as well as tapping escape while GRUB starts but I didn't get given a menu. [Bug 931877] Re: Task udevadm:X blocked at boot
Update on the bug status, I tried using my hard drive with my other computer and ubuntu booted perfectly, so the problem definitely lies somewhere in the hardware/BIOS, though I have no idea how i would even begin diagnosing the problem. Possibly the ACPI of my BIOS is broken, though updating it does not seem to fix anything. Also, some possibly relevant information is that my Windows installation is unable to shut down. It will say shutting down, go to a black screen, and then sit there, not cutting the power off, leading me to believe that my BIOS's ACPI is definitely buggy/broken. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/931877 Title: Task udevadm:X blocked at boot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/931877/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 931877] Re: Task udevadm:X blocked at boot
I tested the latest 3.3-rc3-precise kernel, but the same hanging issue still exists. However it seems to be no longer related to udev, but to swapper and kworker (see attached). 1 message is shown about swapper hanging, and another 5 or 6 are about kworker, all hanging the machine for the exact same as the last kernel, and the acpi=off boot argument still 'fixes' the problem and allows for a normal boot, but again not having acpi on a laptop isn't good. I have found other bugs reporting the same task * blocked for more than 120 seconds, however none of them seem to be related to the boot process and therefore i am unable to find a bug that this might be a duplicate of. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/931877 Title: Task udevadm:X blocked at boot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/931877/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 931877] [NEW] Task udevadm:X blocked at boot
Public bug reported: The 3.0.0-16 kernel is unable to boot due to udevadm hanging. I'm dual booting Windows 7 and Ubuntu 11.10 on my laptop, but when i try to boot ubuntu, it drops to BusyBox complaining about giving up waiting on the root device. ls /dev shows that the device file for my hard drive is not there. Adding rootdelay=300 to the boot arguments allows my hard drive to be seen after approximately 4 minutes and the boot can continue fine. An inspection of /var/log/syslog shows that the udevadm task is being blocked at boot for a long time (see attachment). It seems to be related to ACPI as acpi=off allows me to boot normally, however any other acpi boot options, such as acpi=ht, acpi=noirq, and so forth do not fix the problem, and udevadm still hangs. [Bug 873717] [NEW] Unity launcher fails to group R Commander window icons into one entry on the unity bar
Public bug reported: I don't know if this should be a Unity bug. If you have R Commander installed on your system, you will notice that starting it will make two entries in unity panel. [Bug 782778] [NEW] indicator-weather does not refresh automatically after resuming from suspend
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: indicator-weather I've used indicator-weather from Ubuntu Software Center for some time now and found one easily reproducible and annoying bug: the indicator does not refresh automatically if you suspend with it running and resume from suspend. It just stands in the panel with the last available data it received prior going to suspend. By the way, indicator-weather returns to normal automatic refresh cycle if you refresh it manually. I am on Wi-Fi connection to the Internet so you are not immediately connected after you resume from suspend. I assume it might be one of the important conditions for the bug to occur as I have not tested for the presence of this bug on wired connection. Steps to reproduce the bug: 1. Run indicator-weather or have it running from startup. 2. Be connected to the Internet (Wi-Fi) so the indicator is able to get new weather data. 3. Suspend. 4. Return from suspend. 5. As the time passes indicator-weather does not refresh automatically but it should (in my case every 15 minutes). ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04 Package: indicator-weather 11.04.10+repack-0ubuntu2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.38-8.42-generic 2.6.38.2 Uname: Linux 2.6.38-8-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia Architecture: amd64 Date: Sat May 14 22:24:05 2011 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/indicator-weather InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat - Release amd64 (20101007) InterpreterPath: /usr/bin/python2.7 PackageArchitecture: all SourcePackage: indicator-weather UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to natty on 2011-04-28 (16 days ago) ** Affects: indicator-weather (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug natty running-unity -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/782778 Title: indicator-weather does not refresh automatically after resuming from suspend -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 778979] Re: Italic Greek letters have problems being rendered with elements in power and circumflex
Thank you for the answer and useful tips. The solution works perfectly for circumflex, but the symbols in power still look awkward as they are only shifted in height but not in width. I've attached a screenshot of what the suggested settings helped me achieve with the test ODT file. Is the settings causing circumflex invisible specific to my system or is it a default behavior? If it is default, I guess it should be altered so an average user would not have issues with iGreek symbols. Symbols in power, in my opinion, still need some positioning fixing as they look awkward (and still even touches their base). ** Attachment added: Screenshot of what altered settings achieved https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/778979/+attachment/2119390/+files/Screenshot.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/778979 Title: Italic Greek letters have problems being rendered with elements in power and circumflex -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 778979] [NEW] Italic Greek letters have problems being rendered with elements in power and circumflex
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: libreoffice After upgrade from Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit to Ubuntu 11.04 64-bit I have noticed that all of my previous thesis work had all of the Greek symbols changed from italic to no italic. I suppose that happened because there was iGreek character set introduced. With a bit of frustration I changed all of the parameters to italic. However, my problems did not end there. I've noticed that some iGreek letters are wrongly rendered when they have circumflex on them (e. g. {hat %ilambda}) or elements in power (e. g. {%itheta^(b)}). In the first case, circumflex is not visible at all or only the very bottom of it can be seen in the print or PDF export of the document. In the second case elements in power intersect with the symbol. The problem can be fixed with a workaround like inserting ~ or ` symbols to make elements not intersect each other or taking an iGreek letter to an empty (e. g. {^{{}}^{}}) power to make circumflex visible. I have attached an ODT document with example for everyone to see what I mean. I've also attached pictures of what I mean. [Bug 696138] [NEW] Previously undated photos does not appear under events section after date assigning
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: shotwell If I import scanned pictures (from analog photo camera) using File Import From Folder... the pictures appear at the very bottom of all the photos that are currently in Shotwell's database because they are naturally undated (no exif information about exposure date). However, I usually assign dates to such pictures manually (Photo Adjust Date and Time...). After the procedure photos will appear in the correct position chronologically when browsing through all pictures currently in the database (when Pictures is selected in the left pane). What is not working - the entries under Events section in the left pane is not being created. I do not know if this is the intended behavior of the application, but it makes user experience a bit less great as one intuitively would expect Events to encompass even those events that are created manually. Steps to reproduce the bug: 1. Import pictures with no exif information about exposure date. 2. Manually set picture date and time using Photo Adjust Date and Time 3. Correct dates are not created under Events list in the left pane. [Bug 669465] [NEW] Evolution's e-addressbook-factory process renders CPU usage 100%
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution-data-server I have set-up Evolution email client to access my Gmail and UbuntuOne address books. However, on some occasions e-addressbook-factory starts using 100% of CPU. It has happened to me more than ten times, but I still cannot tell what exactly causes the book to occur.
