[Bug 54918] Re: DNS-lookup to AAAA (IPv6) doesn't seem to work

2009-05-28 Thread dazjorz
It is still an issue for me, with version 3.1.0-4 from the Debian
archives. This is also the version Ubuntu is using, so re-opening this
bug. Backuppc should get IPv6 support, I was just bitten by this bug.

[Bug 376904] Re: [karmic] KDE Plasma system tray is empty since 4.3 beta update

Yep. When using kdebase-workspace version 4.2.85-0ubuntu2 and kdebase
version 4.2.85-0ubuntu1, this problem (and all others) are fixed.
However, these versions are not in the repositories yet (check
launchpad), so setting status to Fix Committed.

[Bug 376904] [NEW] [karmic] KDE Plasma system tray is empty since 4.3 beta update

2009-05-15 Thread dazjorz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: plasma-widgets-workspace

Since Karmic updated to KDE 4.3, my systray does not show any icons. It
does get larger when I open a new application, which means it makes
space for the icon, but the icon itself is never added. Clicking or
right clicking in the space where icons should be, does nothing or opens
the menu containing for example system tray settings, i.e. is
equivalent to clicking/right clicking in empty space when the systray
would still have icons.

I am also using amd64 kubuntu jaunty, and the bug only occured when changing

If I understand correctly, Yakuake contains a *workaround* for this. Maybe
status should only be set to fix released when the real bug is fixed in KDE

[Bug 342168] [NEW] ksmserver in kdebase-workspace 4:4.2.1a-0ubuntu3 forks off two KdeSudo processes without a command

2009-03-13 Thread dazjorz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

When I log in to my desktop, ksmserver forks off two KdeSudo processes
without a command. Here's the pstree:

kdeinit4(4186)─┬─firefox(4394)─┬─{firefox}(4398)

   ├─klauncher(4187)
   ├─ksmserver(4246)─┬─kdesudo(4344)───{kdesudo}(4347)

   │ ├─kwin(4248)───{kwin}(4249)
   │ └─{ksmserver}(4247)
[snip]

ie: kdeinit4 has forked off klauncher and ksmserver (and some others),
and ksmserver forked off {ksmserver}, kwin, and two kdesudo processes.
Here's the ps aux of the two kdesudo processes:

dazjorz 4344 0.0 0.9 311656 36212 ?Sl 10:05 0:00 kdesudo

ie there's really no command listed. So when I log in, I get two popups saying:

[Bug 340632] [NEW] When running OpenOffice 3.0 in Ubuntu Jaunty, The application cannot be started. The user interface language cannot be determined.

2009-03-11 Thread dazjorz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

I'm reporting as a new bug because I think this is Jaunty specific.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Install Jaunty (I took Kubuntu, and Alpha 4, IIRC)

[Bug 341411] [NEW] Compiling with -Wconversion gives lots and lots of warning messages in the Qt headers

2009-03-11 Thread dazjorz
Public bug reported:

I noticed (and I think this is the case with many, many more versions of
Qt) that when compiling with -Wconversion, the headers give lots and
lots of warnings. For example, when compiling a program containing only
#include QChar using g++ -I/usr/include/qt4/QtCore
-I/usr/include/qt4 -c test.cpp no warnings appear, but when adding
-Wconversion, this is the output:

In file included from /usr/include/qt4/QtCore/qchar.h:45,

 from /usr/include/qt4/QtCore/QChar:1,

 from test.cpp:1:

/usr/include/qt4/QtCore/qglobal.h: In function ‘qint64 qRound64(qreal)’:
/usr/include/qt4/QtCore/qglobal.h:1027: warning: conversion to ‘qreal’ from
‘qint64’ may alter its value
In file included from /usr/include/qt4/QtCore/QChar:1,
 from test.cpp:1:
/usr/include/qt4/QtCore/qchar.h: In static member function ‘static ushort
QChar::highSurrogate(uint)’:
/usr/include/qt4/QtCore/qchar.h:295: warning: conversion to ‘ushort’ from
‘unsigned int’ mayalter its value
/usr/include/qt4/QtCore/qchar.h: In static member function ‘static ushort
QChar::lowSurrogate(uint)’:
/usr/include/qt4/QtCore/qchar.h:298: warning: conversion to ‘ushort’ from
‘unsigned int’ mayalter its value
/usr/include/qt4/QtCore/qchar.h: In constructor ‘QChar::QChar(uchar, uchar)’:
/usr/include/qt4/QtCore/qchar.h:369: warning: conversion to ‘ushort’ from ‘int’
may alter its value
/usr/include/qt4/QtCore/qchar.h: In member function ‘void
QChar::setCell(uchar)’:
/usr/include/qt4/QtCore/qchar.h:377: warning: conversion to ‘ushort’ from ‘int’
may alter its value
/usr/include/qt4/QtCore/qchar.h: In member function ‘void QChar::setRow(uchar)’:
/usr/include/qt4/QtCore/qchar.h:379: warning: conversion to ‘ushort’ from ‘int’
may alter its value

These are unmodified headers. Should I just not compile with
-Wconversion, i.e. is this a wontfix bug? I understand that *really*
fixing it makes the headers a lot more ugly and complicated, yet it's an
ugly bug.

Seems like for example SuSE doesn't have this bug because it does not
apply things like -Wconversion to files in /usr/include, or something
like that. Would that be possible for Ubuntu? To which package do I file
a bug?

2009-03-10 Thread dazjorz
On Hardy, IIRC, it was necessary to chmod and chown the .openoffice.org2
directory. The .openoffice.org directory I have has all permissions set
fine.

However, I've rebooted now and it works fine now. Hummm, the only change
I made regarding OpenOffice was installing -java-common, but that didn't
fix it immediately. Maybe it was related to some update I did in the
same session. Don't know, but I'm setting this bug to Invalid for now...

[Bug 340242] [NEW] Desktop goes largely black when modifying height of panel

2009-03-09 Thread dazjorz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase

I'm currently running a live CD of Kubuntu Jaunty RC4. I've booted into
this live system by going to Install, then Quit. I don't think this
matters a lot, since that makes you boot into a real system as if you
chose that option, just mentioning it though.

When I clicked Install from the desktop again a moment ago, then clicked
Quit, the screen went black for a moment and then it came back up, I'm
not sure why that happened. I'm also not sure if that has anything to do
with this, but I'm just mentioning this too.

Then when I just modified the height of the panel at the bottom, a large
part of my desktop went black. I can see the panel, and the top of my
desktop including the Desktop Folder, and my windows go on top of the
black parts, but I can't really see any icons in the Desktop Folder
anymore, for example. I'll attach a screenshot.

I'm sorry this bug report can't be of more help, I'm reporting this now
because I'm afraid I won't be able to reproduce it after the reboot
since I'm not completely sure what exactly caused this. I'm just letting
you know now, before this ends up in the final release. :-)

Please correct me if I've filed the bug report against the wrong
package, too.

[Bug 328299] [NEW] testcase.cpp: internal compiler error: Segmentation fault.

2009-02-11 Thread dazjorz
Public bug reported:

I'm using qt4-x11 version 4.4.3-0ubuntu1.2 from intrepid-proposed. I was
trying to compile KMess when I noticed an internal compiler error on
using QMaps. I read in the gcc FAQ that these are usually because of
errors in any of the code it is trying to compile or link, therefore I
am reporting here. Please tell me if I should bugreport against gcc
instead.

I wrote a test case which I have attached. The gcc-testcase.pro file was
simply generated by qmake -project. Compiling this project gives the

[Bug 106447] Re: acpi_cpufreq detects Intel Core 2 Duo with incorrect frequency scaling from 600 to 800 MHz

2008-12-17 Thread dazjorz
Was this tested with the stock Inprepid kernel -security kernel
2.6.27-9 or with the -proposed kerenl 2.6.27-10 (from uname -r).
If it is not the -proposed kernel it would be worth enabling
proposed and installing and testing the kernel from there. Please see
 https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Thank you in advance!

I don't see any -proposed or -security kernels, but I activated the
Proposed repository and saw and installed kernel 2.6.27-10-generic. I
will reboot soon and report the result. Thanks for the reply!

[Bug 106447] Re: acpi_cpufreq detects Intel Core 2 Duo with incorrect frequency scaling from 600 to 800 MHz

2008-12-13 Thread dazjorz
Also, the fix by Zekard did not work for me. I uninstalled powernowd,
cpufrequtils and libcpufreq0, and the CPU still has its frequencies set
too low, only now the frequency is always set to 800 MHz instead of
switched between 600 and 800 MHz all the time.

I was trying to report this bug against linux-source-2.6.27, but this was
impossible. I have filed a bug about that at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/launchpad/+bug/307668

[Bug 119454] Re: debhelper script creates prerm script that causes daemon removal to be impossible

2008-12-13 Thread dazjorz
Steve, is it correct that /etc/init.d/whatever scripts should return
zero status when the daemon was already stopped?

[Bug 190321] Re: authentication with 00:00:00:00:00:00 timed out wpa_supplicant failure ath_hal crash

2008-03-05 Thread dazjorz
I'm having this problem too. I'm trying to associate with a Fonera device.
There are a few odd things about this situation.
Firstly, when I'm associated to the non-Fonera network called 'dazjorz',
everything is fine. Then when I try to switch to the encrypted Fonera network
called 'dazjorz2', I keep getting the following errors in wpa_cli:

2Trying to associate with 00:18:84:80:91:c2 (SSID='DaZjorz2' freq=2412 MHz)
2Authentication with 00:00:00:00:00:00 timed out.

Also, when I connect to the open Fonera network called 'FON_dazjorz',
authentication fails.

Here comes the odd part. I rebooted the router, and I was able to
associate with it, until the Windows XP laptop associated - at that
moment, I got:

2Trying to associate with 00:18:84:80:91:c2 (SSID='DaZjorz2' freq=2412 MHz)
2Associated with 00:18:84:80:91:c2
2WPA: Key negotiation completed with 00:18:84:80:91:c2 [PTK=TKIP GTK=TKIP]
2CTRL-EVENT-CONNECTED - Connection to 00:18:84:80:91:c2 completed (auth)
[id=0 id_str=]
2CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED - Disconnect event - remove keys
2Trying to associate with 00:18:84:80:91:c2 (SSID='DaZjorz2' freq=2412 MHz)
2Authentication with 00:00:00:00:00:00 timed out.

So ath_hal does not crash for me, but I think this is related to this bug,
anyway.
Oh, and by the way, I'm running Kubuntu Gutsy with all network managers
switched off (I really dislike these things.)

[Bug 119454] Re: debhelper script creates prerm script that causes daemon removal to be impossible

2007-07-04 Thread dazjorz
I came into #ubuntu with problems regarding vmware-player, and the chmod
-x helped. Too bad you can't vote for bugs, like on bugs.kde.org, since
that's something I would otherwise have definitely done for this bug.
