[Bug 793538] Re: Window with no focus on top of another one closes the wrong one

2011-11-10 Thread delance
I'm using Ktorrent and Firefox fullscreen.
When I download a torrent file, I continue to use Firefox.
When download end, Ktorrent restore itself and open a pop-up window.
After some cycles, one of both applications is unable to get focus.
I have to kill it via gnome-system-monitor.

[Bug 884426] Re: display

2011-11-01 Thread delance
It's not what to do, it doesn't work!
nvidia-settings is able both to:
1) detect the model of my both monitors
2) detect the presence of second one
Parameters settings - Display is only able to detect 1st monitor, but not its
model.
So I need to use nvidia-settings to change from one display at full resolution
to both display as same vertical resolution.

[Bug 883924] [NEW] Ubiquity made swap partition with end outside disk

2011-10-30 Thread delance
Public bug reported:

Hello All,
I always wanted to use Linux, Ubuntu. But i really get fed up
because of the annoying issue that Ubuntu gives.
When I install a dual boot Ubuntu with windows, It corrupts the partition
Table. When i run PartitionMagic software to check drives, it says table
corrupt the application don't start in windows. And when I try to delete or
format any drive it format or corrupts the complete hard drive or data. I lost
my all important data twice, because of this problem. And the data is about 120
GB+ so I cant Backup or write the entire data on Disc.

If anyone can tell me how to prevent this, I'll completely convert to Linux,
but windows only for games.
Please please help me out with this problem. Till now, i assume that Linux is
worst OS in history.

Waiting for positive response,
And thank you so much for your efforts in helping ppl like me.

Regards
ADi

And I will be able to install proprietary driver and other packets.

[Bug 709458] [NEW] Natty: during system test, frozen while bug collect

2011-01-28 Thread delance
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

I apologize. Bug is not about Ubiquity, but didn't find in which packet is
System-Administration-System Testing.
I boot on Natty Alpha with Try without install.
I successfully reported a bug about sound.
After I get a bug about xrandr.
The software start to collect data and is frozen!
So it's a bug about bug reporting!
In system monitor, I'm not able to identify the process name.
Window text is Collecting information about this test. This might take a few
minutes.
The main window text is Click the test button to display a video test. Do you
see color bars and static?
If I remember, previous test failed on xrandr.
The video card is NVidia.

@Tom: I never reinstall Vista on my Packard Bell. For this brand, it

[Bug 476625] Re: Grub2 affected when os-prober incorrectly identifies Windows and Recovery partitions

I installed os-prober 1.40 and now I get:

dela...@delance-desktop:~$ sudo os-prober
[sudo] password for delance:
/dev/sda1:Windows Vista (loader):Windows:chain
/dev/sda2:Windows Vista (loader):Windows1:chain

So sda2 is not seen as a recovery partition, which is better.
But sda1 is not yet seen as a recovery partition.
I see a fix is released. What should I do ? Raise a new bug or reopen this one
?

I seems you don't have issue only with USB stick, but also with CD-ROM. In this
case, could you update the bug title.
If issue is due to presence of SD card at start, why not removing SD card at
start and hot-plug it after boot and before install ?
About mass memory enumeration, there are some issues since 10.10 as BIOS and
some other software don't use same order (including Grub).

[Bug 496435] Re: upgrades of the grub-pc package can overwrite wrong MBR

2010-10-19 Thread delance
I used update-manager to update from 10.04 to 10.10, and I got the infamous
grub-xputs.
I have two SATA disks and memory card reader.
With 10.04, SATA disks were enumerated before memory card readers (sda, sdb
then sdc, sde, sdd, sdf).
With 10.10, memory card readers are enumerated before SATA disks (sda, sdb,
sdc, sdd then sde, sdf).
If I boot on a USB key, it's inserted between memory card reader and SATA disks
(which become sdf, sdg).
Previously, it was easier to guess enumeration order of mass memory (and to
help other users).
As I did many things, I'm not sure of what solves issue, but it seems it was
when I booted on CD-ROM instead of USB key.
I also set MBR on both disks!

[Bug 653880] Re: installer identified hard drive as sdb led to the new system unbootablity

2010-10-03 Thread delance
I presume Ubiquity use mass memory storage enumeration order provided by
kernel, instead of making its own order. I'm afraid because most newbies will
not think to check on which drive is put MBR (and even me would not do it
before reading your bug).
From my point of view, the true bug is the chosen drive.
-
I checked in Lucid and in Maverick 27/10/2010, and both fstab use UUID instead
of sdXY.

[Bug 646191] Re: Maverick Beta1 Live CD - System testing - Quicktime_Video.mov

2010-09-28 Thread delance
No, I have not tried to install medibuntu. I forgot MP4 is not a free protocol.
But I acted like a newbie who checks system on Ubuntu CD before installing.
I usually advise to newbies to test with a live session if Ubuntu works on
their hardware, and I imagine than in this case I will get the same question I
asked. So my problem is more a newbie need a message telling him he needs to
have installed medibuntu (and how to do it automatically). I know it looks
stupid, but newbie don't know about such issues.
For me this issue has a low priority. It's more a detail.

[Bug 646030] Re: CRITICAL GRUB2 ISSUE: Fails to Detect Vista Main Partition

2010-09-24 Thread delance
Pierre,

I provide only workaround for bugs, I don't fix.
1) Grub detecting only recovery partition is a bug.
2) Yes, quite all preinstalled PC come now with a recovery partition and a main
windows partition.
3) If you need to change active partition, you can boot on Ubuntu Live CD, use
Gparted and change flag via GUI. But usually you don't have to reinstall
Windows. It were the error I did before.
4) No, Grub have to properly detect current configuration.

It seems that there is a lot of unmanaged bugs for Grub2 package. I
presume there is not enough people on the subject. And for the moment, I
have not yet contact with Ubuntu Grub maintainer.

As this bug report is confused, I presume it will not be managed. I
proposed you to raise a new bug, about detection of partition by Ubuntu
Live CD session. This is a very formalized case, which make easy
reproduction of problem. I hope than in this case, you will be asked to
provide signature of your MBR and NTFS disks, and to check a new version
of Grub2.

For the moment, I simply try to master all aspect of installation and
boot process to fix user's problem and it's a big job. I don't forecast
to enter inside code.

The guy who is active on subject is Collin Watson, on the bug side of
site.

[Bug 646169] [NEW] Maverick Beta1 Live CD - Nvidia driver

2010-09-23 Thread delance
Public bug reported:

I boot on Maverick Beta1 Live CD, and choose Try.
After some times, I'm proposed to install NVidia proprietary driver.
The one proposed is NVDIA accelerated graphics driver (version current).
I choose to activate.
Downloading and loading software window is displayed.
Then error message Failed to fetch
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/n/nvidia-settings/nvidia-settings_256.35-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb
 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.88.31 80].
With Firefox, I can reach
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/n/nvidia-settings/, but instead of
finding 256.35, I find 256.53.
From this page I download nvidia-settings_256.53-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb. But don't
what to do from this with Software Center.

In Synaptic, proposed version is 256.35 and can not be installed. Same
problem.

I'm working a lot in Answer part of Launchpad on installation issues,
and will propose to users to switch to proprietary driver to try to
solve graphic issues. So I have a big problem. Perhaps it's simply 3
and 5 which are inverted.

[Bug 646030] Re: CRITICAL GRUB2 ISSUE: Fails to Detect Vista Main Partition

2010-09-23 Thread delance
Please don't answer with previous message. It makes Launchpad web site
unreadable.
I'm surprised because reinstallation of Vista from CD rewrite MBR. It's even
main problem with Windows reinstallation!
So I presume you reinstalled from Recovery partition. Could you confirm ?
About having both Recovery partition and Vista partition, it seems there are
two common issues:
1) Only one of them is detected or both are detected, but inverted.
I suspect problem is due to own Windows dual boot loading. The boot loader
could be detected but not the two Windows OS (as Recovery is also a Windows
OS!) it is able to launch.
2) After Grub installation, the management of active Windows partition is not
properly managed, and you can need to change which partition is active.
This is not systematic, as I have the same disk configuration and had no
problem with 9.04. PC manufacturer change installed OS and so signature on disk
of OS.
But as I told you, I'm active in answering questions and finding workaround,
not fixing bug. And I will not follow this thread.

To get better understanding of some occurring issues coming from other
users, I need to know if you reinstalled from Recovery partition and not
CD,.

[Bug 314325] Re: Mail labels removed

2010-09-23 Thread delance
I have also this bug with Evolution. Labels are not remembered and I use also
an IMAP server. I use it to sort Launchpad questions I answered. Perhaps
importance is low. It will simply means I will lost some of threads I'm
supposed to help in Launchpad, by removing them accidentally.
Could you tell me what I can do to make progress this issue ?
I sent a confirmation to http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=580072

[Bug 646326] [NEW] Maverick Beta and Virtual Box

2010-09-23 Thread delance
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: virtualbox-ose

I try to install Maverick Beta under Virtual Box.

First issue is installation of Maverick standalone. The facts that I
can't install VBox Guest Addition is not a bug, as it seems new X11
server is not yet supported by VBOX 3.2.8 r 64453 . But after trying to
enlarge a window, the screen was totally corrupted.

Second issue is installation of Maverick after XP. The process froze at
end with message Ready when you are, but an incomplete progress bar.

As I help currently a lot users on Lucid installation, I'm a little
nervous as not being prepared for future Maverick arrival!

N.B.: I don't use OSE version, but full version.dela...@delance-

[Bug 589284] [NEW] Add in a gdm config file option to choose language

2010-06-03 Thread delance
Public bug reported:

Is it possible in some config file (I guess in post-session) to add
something like

Show Language List = true (or false - what can be default settings)

As GDM don't allow users to choose language if they are logged without
password (it mean public PC usage), what can be logically consequence of
the fact how language must to be chosen after user selection, some
command what will enable autostart (automatic) appearance of the
Language List before entrance in xsession and after user selection, will
be ideal solution for multilingual PC usage.

I think how question/idea/suggestion is reasonable, technically possible
and over all extra functional (it will solve lot of the problems in
multilingual area/countries), simple and pragmatic.

Other two choosers are undoubtedly not problematic. Keyboard can be
switched in the xsession and xsession is in any case for public PC usage
matter of administrator choice and security issue.

Obviously, only problem is language (big problem).

Could you explain me the reason behind this decision, so I choose right package

[Bug 446621] Re: evince assert failure: *** glibc detected *** evince: double free or corruption (!prev): 0x09b83958 ***

2010-04-22 Thread delance
I reproduced this bug with an old version, but I don't find on which version.
When I try on Evince 2.28.1, now it see it is a rar file and that the package
is not installed instead of crashing.
So I presume the bug is fixed.
Previously workaround was to install rar package.
For a newbe, it was not obvious to guess the crash were related to a missing
package.

Need confirmation by Itlollo that my analysis is right (as I am unable
to find on which cbr I confirmed the bug).
