[Bug 793538] Re: Window with no focus on top of another one closes the wrong one
I'm using Ktorrent and Firefox fullscreen. When I download a torrent file, I continue to use Firefox. When download end, Ktorrent restore itself and open a pop-up window. After some cycles, one of both applications is unable to get focus. [Bug 496435] Re: upgrades of the grub-pc package can overwrite wrong MBR
I used update-manager to update from 10.04 to 10.10, and I got the infamous grub-xputs. I have two SATA disks and memory card reader. With 10.04, SATA disks were enumerated before memory card readers (sda, sdb then sdc, sde, sdd, sdf). With 10.10, memory card readers are enumerated before SATA disks (sda, sdb, sdc, sdd then sde, sdf). If I boot on a USB key, it's inserted between memory card reader and SATA disks (which become sdf, sdg). Previously, it was easier to guess enumeration order of mass memory (and to help other users). As I did many things, I'm not sure of what solves issue, but it seems it was when I booted on CD-ROM instead of USB key. [Bug 646030] Re: CRITICAL GRUB2 ISSUE: Fails to Detect Vista Main Partition
Pierre, I provide only workaround for bugs, I don't fix. 1) Grub detecting only recovery partition is a bug. 2) Yes, quite all preinstalled PC come now with a recovery partition and a main windows partition. 3) If you need to change active partition, you can boot on Ubuntu Live CD, use Gparted and change flag via GUI. But usually you don't have to reinstall Windows. It were the error I did before. 4) No, Grub have to properly detect current configuration. It seems that there is a lot of unmanaged bugs for Grub2 package. I presume there is not enough people on the subject. And for the moment, I have not yet contact with Ubuntu Grub maintainer. As this bug report is confused, I presume it will not be managed. I proposed you to raise a new bug, about detection of partition by Ubuntu Live CD session. This is a very formalized case, which make easy reproduction of problem. I hope than in this case, you will be asked to provide signature of your MBR and NTFS disks, and to check a new version of Grub2. For the moment, I simply try to master all aspect of installation and boot process to fix user's problem and it's a big job. I don't forecast to enter inside code. [Bug 646169] [NEW] Maverick Beta1 Live CD - Nvidia driver
Public bug reported: I boot on Maverick Beta1 Live CD, and choose Try. After some times, I'm proposed to install NVidia proprietary driver. The one proposed is NVDIA accelerated graphics driver (version current). I choose to activate. Downloading and loading software window is displayed. Then error message Failed to fetch http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/n/nvidia-settings/nvidia-settings_256.35-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.88.31 80]. With Firefox, I can reach http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/n/nvidia-settings/, but instead of finding 256.35, I find 256.53. From this page I download nvidia-settings_256.53-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb. But don't what to do from this with Software Center. In Synaptic, proposed version is 256.35 and can not be installed. Same problem. I'm working a lot in Answer part of Launchpad on installation issues, and will propose to users to switch to proprietary driver to try to solve graphic issues. So I have a big problem. [Bug 646030] Re: CRITICAL GRUB2 ISSUE: Fails to Detect Vista Main Partition
Please don't answer with previous message. It makes Launchpad web site unreadable. I'm surprised because reinstallation of Vista from CD rewrite MBR. It's even main problem with Windows reinstallation! So I presume you reinstalled from Recovery partition. Could you confirm ? About having both Recovery partition and Vista partition, it seems there are two common issues: 1) Only one of them is detected or both are detected, but inverted. I suspect problem is due to own Windows dual boot loading. The boot loader could be detected but not the two Windows OS (as Recovery is also a Windows OS!) it is able to launch. 2) After Grub installation, the management of active Windows partition is not properly managed, and you can need to change which partition is active. This is not systematic, as I have the same disk configuration and had no problem with 9.04. PC manufacturer change installed OS and so signature on disk of OS. But as I told you, I'm active in answering questions and finding workaround, not fixing bug. And I will not follow this thread. To get better understanding of some occurring issues coming from other users, I need to know if you reinstalled from Recovery partition and not CD,. ** Tags added: maverick -- CRITICAL GRUB2 ISSUE: Fails to Detect Vista Main Partition https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/646030 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Is it possible in some config file (I guess in post-session) to add something like Show Language List = true (or false - what can be default settings) As GDM don't allow users to choose language if they are logged without password (it mean public PC usage), what can be logically consequence of the fact how language must to be chosen after user selection, some command what will enable autostart (automatic) appearance of the Language List before entrance in xsession and after user selection, will be ideal solution for multilingual PC usage. I think how question/idea/suggestion is reasonable, technically possible and over all extra functional (it will solve lot of the problems in multilingual area/countries), simple and pragmatic.
