[Bug 2065076] Re: nvidia failure to resume from suspend; kernel fallback broken
I have the same issue with GTX 980M. Resume works sometimes, but often fails as described (> 50% failure). I'm currently running the 23.10 kernel to avoid this issue. Note that with previous Ubuntu versions (like 23.10), this issue (at least, similar) could happen, but very rarely (I got it maybe 2-3 times over a year). As if there where some race conditions triggering the issue that did rarely occur with older kernels, but very often with recent ones. I tried without nvidia proprietary driver (using nouveau): no resume freeze. However, the nouveau support has other issues like not being able to control brightness (and brightness is set to 1% after resume). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2065076 Title: nvidia failure to resume from suspend; kernel fallback broken To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2065076/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1970088] [NEW] Resume fail after suspend with NVIDIA driver on Ubuntu 22.04
Public bug reported: After upgrading from 21.10 to 22.04, the suspend/resume stopped working on my laptop with an NVIDIA discrete card. The computer goes in sleep mode, but when resuming, the screen remain black. The issue happens with both NVIDIA driver 470 and 510. [Bug 1818406] Re: gnat-gps fails to launch built binaries
Ok, I found what's the problem. In the file /usr/share/gps/support/ui/workflows/__init__.py, line 248 (gnat-gps 17.0.2017-1ubuntu1 from cosmic): el = next (gen.next) shall be: el = next (gen) And then it works. This line has been modified by the python_2_to_3.diff deb patch during packaging. This is where the bug were introduced. Note that the original line (before patch) was: el = gen.next() and seems to work fine too for me. I'm not a python expert, so I don't know why this line had to be patched, and which version shall be used between next(gen) and gen.next(). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1818406 Title: gnat-gps fails to launch built binaries To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnat-gps/+bug/1818406/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1641086] [NEW] Battery icon in systray/mate-panel has incorrect size in Ambiant-MATE
Public bug reported: In Ambiant-MATE theme (and maybe other similar themes), the battery status icon, present in the mate-indicator-applet, has incorrect size to be properly drawn in the systray (and also in contextual menu). The battery icon set have different width and height (for example, 32x24), and that results in a poor rendering where icon seems to be vertically aligned on the top instead of being vertically centered. The issue appeared in Ubuntu MATE 16.10 and was not present in Ubuntu MATE 16.04. I think this was caused by the GTK2 -> GTK3 migration for mate-panel & applets. Note that I'm not sure if it should be considered a theme issue or a mate regression. [Bug 1518473] Re: /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness is broken
Same issue with GTX 980M on Ubuntu 16.04, even with latest NVIDIA drivers (367.27). I described this on NVIDIA forums: https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/942337/linux/backlight-brightness-not-hooked-to-acpi-events-ubuntu-16-04-/ I manually fixed it by created an acpid event handler, however in my solution, it only works when changing the brightness with the Fn-keys, but not by changing /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness value. [Bug 1535470] Re: Backlight brightness keys not working
I have a different Clevo model (P751DM-G) but with same issue: the backlight Fn-keys doesn't work neither out of the box, nor with a kernel 4.6. Well, in fact, they work until I suspend/resume, and then they no longer work. Looking at acpi_listen, I noticed that after first suspend/resume cycle, some ACPI events where no longer triggered (like the backlight Fn-keys, but also the lid close!). I found a fix by loading a clevo-wmi driver. There are several clevo-wmi drivers on the internet (various attempts to write a driver for it...). For my laptop, I use: * https://bitbucket.org/lynthium/clevo-xsm-wmi (it aims at supporting all Clevo models) Since the clevo-xsm-wmi driver doesn't seem to handle your P65 model, you may need to try some other ones, like this one: * https://github.com/gamaral/clevo-wmi Maybe it could help for you too. To be honest, I have no idea why it did fix my backlight fn-keys, as those drivers are supposed to handle different features (keyboard backlight, rfkill switch, hw monitoring). Nevertheless, if I unload the module, then the issue happen again. Note that this workaround fixes the Fn-keys: the backlight popup notification appears and I can increase/decrease value, however it has no effect on the screen. This is just ACPI event that has been fixed. In order to really adjust LCD backlight, I have to play with nvidia-settings (with proprietary driver). Example, to set backlight brightness at 50%: nvidia-settings -n -a BacklightBrightness=50 Some glue is still missing to link ACPI events with nvidia-settings. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1535470 Title: Backlight brightness keys not working To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1535470/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1247362] [NEW] notification-daemon conflicts with notify-osd when running GNOME Flashback
Public bug reported: In Ubuntu 13.10, there is a conflict between notification-daemon and notify-osd when running a GNOME Flashback session. The following two issues are correlated: 1) When a notification arise, there is a mix of GNOME 3-like and Ubuntu notification styles (graphically). It can be easily reproduced with the notify-send command. 2) The events like volume up/down/mute no longer shows a notification. To reproduce, just use the keyboard's volume buttons, or scroll on the sound indicator in the gnome panel. After some investigation, I found that killing the process /usr/lib /notification-daemon/notification-daemon fixes the problem. After that, the notifications uses only the Ubuntu's style and the volume up/down/mute notifications appears again. The gnome-session-flashback 3.6.2 package depends on the notification- daemon 0.7.6 package, which autostarts the notification-daemon process when running a GNOME Flashback session. I could manage to disable it by editing the file /etc/xdg/autostart/notification-daemon.desktop. As a workaround, I changed the line: AutostartCondition=GNOME3 unless-session gnome To: AutostartCondition=false Something should be done so that GNOME Flashback uses only one notification system, either Ubuntu one or notification-daemon, but not both at the same time. Moreover, if it is decided to use notification- daemon, the missing notifications mentioned above (volume...) should be fixed. ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: flashback gnome notification ** Attachment added: Screenshot of notification-daemon mixed with notify-osd https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1247362/+attachment/3898326/+files/notification-daemon.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1247362 Title: notification-daemon conflicts with notify-osd when running GNOME Flashback To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-panel/+bug/1247362/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 417757] Re: [karmic regression] all network apps / browsers suffer from multi-second delays by default due to IPv6 DNS lookups
options single-request in /etc/resolv.conf works, but it has two drawbacks: 1) The first time you want to access a website, it will be slow. 2) when the process terminates, i.e. when you close the application or when it ends by itself (web browser, apt-get, etc.), you lose all your fast DNS resolving stuff. When you reopen the browser, it will be slow again. Take apt-get: you run it for updating or installing some packages, and it will close itself at the end of the operation, and all is lost. Next time you run apt-get, it has to resolve everything again with the slow method... -- [karmic regression] all network apps / browsers suffer from multi-second delays by default due to IPv6 DNS lookups https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/417757 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 438000] Re: [i945gm] [karmic] X servers hangs when settings up dual monitor config
With kernel 2.6.32rc7 and xorg-edgers' intel driver (2.9.0+git), I could switch to a console (tty1), and dump kernel messages after the GPU hang (and reboot properly). It seems that by default, the Gnome screen resolution menu sets external monitor to extended at right, which could break with compiz enabled if the with is greater than 2048. But what I don't understand is why does it hang when I just run xrandr command after hotplugging the monitor? (without setting up the external monitor yet) ** Attachment added: dmesgGemErrors.log http://launchpadlibrarian.net/35683236/dmesgGemErrors.log -- [i945gm] [karmic] X servers hangs when settings up dual monitor config https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/438000 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 438000] Re: [i945gm] [karmic] X servers hangs when settings up dual monitor config
Ok I see, calling xrandr will by default expand the virtual screen as if the external monitor is right of LVDS, even if we directly call xrandr --output VGA1 --below LVDS. I tried with LVDS1=1280x800 and VGA1=1280x1024 (native resolutions, chosen by default). VGA1 at the right/left of LVDS1 will result in a frame buffer of 2560x1024 = greater than 2048 (i945's hardware limit), crash with compiz. VGA1 below/above LVDS1 will result in a frame buffer of 1280x1824 = Fits in 2048x2048 and works with compiz. Running xrandr --output VGA1 --below LVDS first creates a 2560x1024 frame buffer before creating the proper 1280x1824 frame buffer (seen in Xorg.0.log without compiz). Therefore, it will always crash with compiz enabled. However we can do it with metacity (compiz disabled), and then put back compiz (compiz.real --replace), it will work. In Xorg.0.log, after running the command given below: (II) intel(0): Allocate new frame buffer 2560x1024 stride 4096 (II) intel(0): Allocate new frame buffer 1280x1824 stride 2048 If you have higher native resolutions for LVDS and/or external monitor, there is currently no solution with compiz. Conclusion: The problem is that xrandr and gnome-display-properties will systematically setup the external monitor next to the LVDS, without checking if it's possible. Those tools should not do this if hardware does not allow it. The problem is that those tools are not aware that compiz is running (which reduces the hardware limit to 2048x2048), and so try to create the too large frame buffer (which is legal without compiz). -- [i945gm] [karmic] X servers hangs when settings up dual monitor config https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/438000 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 192735] Re: mpd no access to soundcard using pulseaudio
Maybe we can also look if PulseAudio is installed and if a pulseaudio process is running? If yes, we select it as the default Audio Output for MPD, if not we keep ALSA. But anyway, we should enable (i.e. uncomment in /etc/mpd.conf) both ALSA and PulseAudio outputs, so that in case the wrong one is selected by default, it's easy for the user to change (some clients like gmpc allow to chose it in config dialog). If you want to try the new patch, please send feedback on the alsa bugzilla to know if your laptop behaves like Lenovo or like Samsung (try first without the patch, and if it doesn't work, with patch). (Also, I wonder if the former patch (for alsa 1.0.14) breakes for others.) ** Attachment added: New patch for alsa-driver-1.0.15 as of 8th september of 2007 (hg snapshot) http://launchpadlibrarian.net/9965584/hdaintel-laptop-eapd-hg20070908.patch -- Laptop speakers not muted when plugging in headphones https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/94566 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 94566] Re: Laptop speakers not muted when plugging in headphones
You don't have to recompile the whole kernel! On alsa's bugzilla entry (https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa- bug/view.php?id=2581), my post (#0016835) gives all the commands to download, build and install everything needed to fix the bug (or you can follow the same intructions on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/Lenovo3000N100_0768, section Sound). That takes less than 15 mins even for a newbie, reboot included :-) -- Laptop speakers not muted when plugging in headphones https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/94566 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 94566] Re: Laptop speakers not muted when plugging in headphones
I'm not certain that having the latest alsa-utils is mandatory, so maybe ignoring it will be fine. Also, you may need to pass an option to the sound module (to select the same codepath as Lenovo), since your laptop doesn't seem to be listed in driver's pci quirck list (alsa-kernel/pci/hda/patch_analog.c around line 833). In /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base, add: options snd-hda-intel model=laptop-automute Then, you have two tests: 1. Build without the patch. If the speakers automute, then you're lucky ;-) 2. If 1 failed, build with the patch. -- Laptop speakers not muted when plugging in headphones https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/94566 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 69069] sensible-browser not using user's browser from gnome-default-applications-properties
Public bug reported: sensible-browser does not use the preferred browser as specified in gnome-default-applications-properties. I have selected Epiphany as my favorite browser, with openning links in new tab by default. So my default browser command is epiphany --new-tab %s. sensible-browser only run epiphany %s (because of how it is designed currently, with simlinks). A common problem for me is when I want to open a link from xchat, xchat calls sensible-browser and it runs a new epiphany window instead of opening it in my current window in a new tab. A quick fix is to set the BROWSER environment variable to the browser command. ** Affects: debianutils (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- sensible-browser not using user's browser from gnome-default-applications-properties https://launchpad.net/bugs/69069 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 69069] Re: sensible-browser not using user's browser from gnome-default-applications-properties
An other quick fix is to add gnome-open with update-alternatives so that it will be called by sensible-browser: sudo update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/x-www-browser x-www-browser /usr/bin/gnome-open 150 sudo update-alternatives --config x-www-browser gnome-open should run the appropriate program given the url. -- sensible-browser not using user's browser from gnome-default-applications-properties https://launchpad.net/bugs/69069 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 56031] Re: CD-Rom not found one time out of two Acer TM4150LMi
This is an ATAPI CD-ROM, connected to the SATA/IDE controller which works in combined mode (it can handle both SATA and IDE at time). Before being handled like an SCSI disk, it was named /dev/hdd. Now both disks (HDD and CD-ROM) are handled like SATA/SCSI drives because of this combined mode. -- CD-Rom not found one time out of two Acer TM4150LMi https://launchpad.net/bugs/56031 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: udev My CD-Rom is often not recognized at boot time, perhaps 1/2 or 1/3 of the time. The only way I found to fix that is by rebooting, generally it then is detected. I'm not sure also what software is causing this failure (udev ? ata_piix ? other ?).
