It is intended only for the desktop use-case, and is not intended for usage on servers. The point of NetworkManager is to make networking configuration and setup as painless and automatic as possible. If using DHCP, NetworkManager is _intended_ to replace default routes, obtain IP addresses from a DHCP server, and change nameservers whenever it sees fit. . This package provides the userspace daemons. . [Bug 264683] Re: (intrepid) When coming out of hibernate in a different physical location, wireless networks are not updated.
I included the complete syslog so you have complete information, but you can see using tail -n 20 syslog where it fails to connect. In this case, it can not even connect to the same wireless access point as before the hibernate. I will attach syslog from a situation where I change physical locations this evening. ** Attachment added: Complete syslog http://launchpadlibrarian.net/17621807/syslog ** Changed in: network-manager (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = New -- (intrepid) When coming out of hibernate in a different physical location, wireless networks are not updated. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/264683 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 264683] [NEW] (intrepid) When coming out of hibernate in a different physical location, wireless networks are not updated.
Public bug reported: To reproduce : 1. Connect to a wireless network on Ubuntu Intrepid 2. Hibernate the computer 3. Move computer to a new location where the original network is not available and a new network is available 4. Resume the computer What happens : Network Manager Applet shows only the original wireless network and tries to reconnect to it. What should happen : Network Manager Applet should show the networks in the new location and not try and connect to a wireless network that is not available. What I think is happening : I think the Network Manager is not scanning for new wireless networks when it resumes. ** Affects: network-manager-applet (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- (intrepid) When coming out of hibernate in a different physical location, wireless networks are not updated. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/264683 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 256659] Re: Atheros card not working in intrepid since 4 or 5 days ago
The kernel running is Linux david-laptop 2.6.26-5-generic #1 SMP Sun Aug 3 01:25:54 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux but I can not for sure say the problem is kernel related. The network manager should appear in Gnome whether or not the kernel driver is working properly, so let's start by pointing out the missing icon. I noticed the package was updated 2008-08-07 09:48:56 status installed network-manager-gnome 0.6.6-0ubuntu3, so let's start here. [Bug 251898] Re: Evince memory leak on PDF file
Running evince 2.23.5 on Ubuntu Intrepid has similar results. When I open the document, memory usage spikes to 400 megabytes +. After a moment or two ( once it has loaded the file ) it falls down to less than 20 megabytes. If I resize the window, it spikes again to 400 megabytes and than comes back down. Because I only have 512 megs of memory, during the spikes it swap thrashes and I have time to see the excessive usage of memory. [Bug 95817] Re: Feisty's Kernel Panics With Netgear MA401 PCMCIA Wireless Installed
How's this bug coming along? Xubuntu 8.04 on the 2.6.24-17-generic ( uname -r ) kernel does the same thing. ** Description changed: Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.20-12-generic + Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.24-17-generic The linux-image-2.6.20-12-generic kernel package panics on my Dell Latitude 640 with a Netgear MA401 PCMCIA wireless card installed. It runs fine without the card plugged in. Strangely, the Feisty Herd 5 and Beta Live CDs boot and run just fine, with all the local wireless APs detected and showing up in gnome-network-manger. But after installation from either CD, the kernel panics on boot while detecting available PCMCIA cards. I tried it with the -9, -11, and -12 generic kernels. If I remember correctly, -8, -10, and earlier kernels worked (including the brief 2.6.19 series). Feisty's installed generic kernel ran fine with the wireless card installed up until around the Herd 4 era, when I installed a different OS but decided to go back to Feisty. [Bug 226728] [NEW] Ubuntu upgrade to Hard ( 8.04 LTS ) allows computer restart before installation completion
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: release-upgrader-apt When upgrading to Hardy Heron 8.04 LTS, it is possible to run programs and restart the computer. If I run programs, most of them will be broken because they will be half updated. If I restart the computer, it does not resume the installation and it does not boot properly. My mother in law was running 7.10 and selected the upgrade to 8.04 LTS option. During the installation, the upgrader asked a question about a change to the cups.conf file ( which I had changed ). She did not notice the question, thought the installation was complete and restarted the computer. When the computer restarted, it opened up gnome which did not finish loading and did not give any error message. In order to resolve the issue, I went down to terminal 1 ( CTRL + ALT + F1 ) and as root ran apt-get dist-upgrade. It resumed the upgrade, finished installing everything. I restarted and the computer worked fine. Things that should be improved in installer to make the upgrade more user friendly : 1. If user tries to restart the computer during an upgrade, the user should see a warning saying that the operation could seriously break the computer ( or simply disable the shutdown button ! ) 2. If the upgrade asks the user for information, the window asking the information must be very obvious, perhaps flash until the user answers ? 3. If the upgrade is interrupted, it should be automatically resumed when the computer restarts. In my MIL's case, she was unable to get as far as gnome. Perhaps the upgrade could have pulled her down to tty1 and completed the upgrade 4. Upgrade should have a download only option 5. Perhaps the upgrade should run by itself and other programs should not be allowed to run at the same time ( not sure if I selected the correct package, whatever packages causes a computer to be upgraded using the orange notification icon ) David ** Affects: release-upgrader-apt (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Ubuntu upgrade to Hard ( 8.04 LTS ) allows computer restart before installation completion https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/226728 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 95817] Re: Feisty's Kernel Panics With Netgear MA401 PCMCIA Wireless Installed
Hello, It should be mentioned that I tried out PuppyLinux today, installed it on my harddrive. By default it uses orinoco_cs for my card. I deleted the modules from /lib/modules ( kids don't try this at home ) rebooted and it used the hostap_cs driver instead by default. Guess what? The kernel panicked! So either this is a problem with udev who is loading the stuff or the kernel who is maybe not loading the modules in the proper order ( remember that if I boot the machine without the card and plug it in once it is mostly booted it works fine). [Bug 95817] Re: Feisty's Kernel Panics With Netgear MA401 PCMCIA Wireless Installed
I recompiled my kernel using my own .config file. Ubuntu no longer kernel panics and Network Manager icon allows me to connect to wireless networks without need for a root password.
