John,
What store is this and where is it? Sounds fantastic that they are
showing consumers the Third and Option.

Sorry for another post, but I completely forgot about the good news I've
got (you better brace yourself because it's quite big and it's probably
gonna make your whole day): the biggest and most popular computer store
in the whole district is now running Ubuntu with all the Firefox and
Compiz Fusion goodness on the machines where customers can browse their
e-shop and print invoices, so everyone who wishes to speed things up by
avoiding waiting in line for the dealers to do the same thing for him
can now see Ubuntu in action. I only wished they started showcasing some
DELL notebooks running Ubuntu, because these self-service terminals
are more like single purpose computer kiosks dedicated for the
aforementioned tasks rather than full blown free desktop systems.

[Bug 472883] Re: Philips VOIP080 USB Skypephone not detected

2010-01-24 Thread draoi99
OK, I've come back to this and now my Skypephone works with kernel
2.6.31-15. Once I've plugged in my Skypephone what I have to do is click
on the speaker icon on the top panel and select the Philips VOIP
Skypephone as the sound device for Input and Output and also turn up the
volume for each. I can then successfully make a call. Within the Skype
Options screen, the only device available is Pulse Audio Server but
that's OK. So this bug can be marked as FIXED.

[Bug 472883] [NEW] Philips VOIP080 USB Skypephone not detected

2009-11-03 Thread draoi99
Public bug reported:

I am using Karmic 9.10. This is a regression in hardware detection.

I don't know which package is involved, possibly hal?

I plugged in my Philips Skypephone into a USB slot. What happens usually
(in Intrepid and Jaunty) is that the phone is detected and an icon
appears on the desktop. Also, when I open Nautilus File Browser the
phone is visible as a drive. I can then open up Skype and select the
Philips Skypephone as my Sound Device. This did not happen in Karmic -
no icon appears, it does not appear in Nautilus and I can't find it as
an option when I open up Skype.

The device appears in lsusb and dmesg.

This is an important issue for me, I may reinstall Intrepid because I
need my cheap Skype phone calls and I don't want to have to buy another
Skypephone or headset.

[Bug 400682] Re: [Karmic stac927x regression] No sound after upgrade from Jaunty to Karmic

2009-08-07 Thread draoi99
This bug affects me too - same soundcard:

card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: STAC92xx Analog [STAC92xx Analog]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

I have good sound in the speakers but no sound from the headphone jack.
This was always the case for me in all previous releases so I used to
add

options snd-hda-intel model=vaio

to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

I tried that again this time but still no sound from the headphones. I
have a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ21M

[Bug 407835] [NEW] New Wave theme: text whited out in Evolution Preferences screen

2009-08-01 Thread draoi99
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

New Wave is a system theme in Karmic Koala 9.10. When using Evolution,
the text in the Mail Preferences dialog box is whited out and unreadable
using this theme (see attached screenshot).

Steps to reproduce:

1. Select New Wave as desktop theme.
2. Open Evolution.
3. Select Edit/Preferences, then Mail Preferences.

All of the text under each of the tabs is incorrectly coloured.

This may not seem technically to be high priority but if unfixed is
guaranteed to draw bad publicity for Ubuntu after release, in the press
reviews. This appears to be a different bug to the gnome-color-chooser
bug already reported about Evolution.

I followed the advice to -f install and I got this reply from the
terminal:
