[Bug 1172092] Re: Have an nvidia titan GPU with 2560x1600 monitor. As soon as I enable the driver and reboot, X crashes with black screen
I am running the latest NVIDIA driver, and I now have the correct screen resolution, but it is crashing after a few minutes, especially when web browsing. The browser will become unresponsive, turn dark, then the mouse will freeze, then the entire machine will reboot after about 20 seconds or so. This is incredibly frustrating. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1172092 Title: Have an nvidia titan GPU with 2560x1600 monitor. [Bug 1172092] [NEW] Have an nvidia titan GPU with 2560x1600 monitor. As soon as I enable the driver and reboot, X crashes with black screen
Public bug reported: Default fresh 13.04 install does not offer the nvidia drivers and doesn't recognize my monitor: It thinks I am running a laptop and offers me only the choice of either 800x600 or 1024x768 (yuk) 4:3 resolution when I have a 16:9 monitor. As soon as I install the nvidia drivers and reboot, bad things happen, I see a brief flash of purple then it hangs with a black screen. I was lucky to be able to get to the grub prompt and select the CLI where I uninstalled everything nvidia and was able to at least get back to a 1024x768 GUI. I was previously running 12.10 with an ATI HD5790 card which I had to replace due to a bad fan. It was previously able to detect this card and set my monitor to the correct resolution without any difficulty, and offered me the chance to install the closed source drivers. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please report the results following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelBoot ? As well, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream- testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete ** Tags added: amd64 maverick needs-upstream-testing -- You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/678148 Title: Cannot boot with 2xHD5970 in crossfire on GA-X58A-UD7 motherboard To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/678148/+subscriptions -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/678148 Title: Cannot boot with 2xHD5970 in crossfire on GA-X58A-UD7 motherboard To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/678148/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 873809] Re: Natty to Oneric upgrade fails without error
Walter - Yes, I think it was that one, but I am not absolutely 100% positive. I do remember it being something 32 bit specific, and that it was a library. [Bug 873809] Re: Natty to Oneric upgrade fails without error
I think I was able to fix it by manually changing the apt-get sources from natty to oneric and removing one problematic 32-bit library package that the update was complaining about. [Bug 678150] Re: When selecting btrfs for root filesystems, grub doesn't use UUIDs
Fortunately, I was aware I needed a separate /boot and didn't hit that particular trap. But for as long as booting from btrfs is unsupported, it would make sense for the installer to detect this and either create its own /boot in automated mode, or when manually partitioning, prevent the user from creating a configuration that won't boot. -- When selecting btrfs for root filesystems, grub doesn't use UUIDs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/678150 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 678148] Re: Cannot boot with 2xHD5970 in crossfire on GA-X58A-UD7 motherboard
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: Binary package hint: xorg Booting the install disk is only possible if nomodeset is selected on startup. It is possible to install, but when I boot the installed system I can't even get to the desktop to install the fglrx drivers. The system hangs with an ACPI error message on the console. The motherboard is advertised as capable of supporting crossfire, and my power supply is certainly hefty enough, (1000W) but the configuration fails to boot. I can get a bit further if I enable nomodeset on grub after the install, but the system then hard hangs with a couple of a messages something like: [Radeon : ACPI error] The same thing happens if I boot the rescue system. Done - obviously I had to remove the 2nd GPU or I wouldn't be able to send this, otherwise my configuration is unchanged. - Original Message From: Bryce Harrington 678...@bugs.launchpad.net To: earthforc...@yahoo.com Sent: Sun, November 21, 2010 4:59:13 PM Subject: [Bug 678148] Re: Cannot boot with 2xHD5970 in crossfire on GA-X58A-UD7 motherboard Fairly sure this is just lack of crossfire support in the open source radeon KMS drivers. But just to check, have you successfully booted crossfire in any other configurations or other versions of Ubuntu? In any case, now that modesetting is handled by the kernel, this is a kernel wishlist so I'm refiling there. However, this type of work is normally done upstream so it'd be better to file this bug at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/ against radeon. Also, when filing bug reports please attach necessary logs. A handy tool to do this after a bug is filed is apport-collect. Please run: apport-collect 678148 Thanks ahead of time. ** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) = linux (Ubuntu) -- Cannot boot with 2xHD5970 in crossfire on GA-X58A-UD7 motherboard https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/678148 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. -- Cannot boot with 2xHD5970 in crossfire on GA-X58A-UD7 motherboard https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/678148 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 678148] Re: Cannot boot with 2xHD5970 in crossfire on GA-X58A-UD7 motherboard
I haven't tried this with earlier Ubuntu versions - this card was only just supported in 10.04, and I only had two available to try as of a few days ago. I could try booting the live CD and see if the nomodeset is still required? As per your suggestion, I will also open an account at bugs.freedesktop.org - thanks! -- Cannot boot with 2xHD5970 in crossfire on GA-X58A-UD7 motherboard https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/678148 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 678148] [NEW] Cannot boot with 2xHD5970 in crossfire on GA-X58A-UD7 motherboard
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Booting the install disk is only possible if nomodeset is selected on startup. I am able to install normally if I remove one of the HD5970 cards. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Cannot boot with 2xHD5970 in crossfire on GA-X58A-UD7 motherboard https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/678148 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 678150] [NEW] When selecting btrfs for root filesystems, grub doesn't use UUIDs
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: grub-installer Background: I have a GA-X58A-UD7 motherboard, and wanted to plug my boot SSD into one of the SATA3 slots, and use the SATA2 connections for external drives. It was also convenient to do so because of mechanical interference between the SATA cables and the graphics card - the cables are of limited length, and they route better if the external back panel connector is routed to the first SATA plug. So my boot drive shows up as a higher /dev/sd#, usually e or f. I created a separate EXT4 partition for /boot and used btrfs for the root file system, as well as /usr and /var which are mounted on separate drives. When I did the install and booted all was well at first, until I tried to boot with an external drive or USB thumb drive plugged in. The system would then fail to find its root partition or one of the other drives. I found that grub was configured to search for root on a fixed /dev/sd# instead of using UUIDs. Obviously this would fail if another drive was inserted and the drive letters move. ** Affects: grub-installer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- When selecting btrfs for root filesystems, grub doesn't use UUIDs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/678150 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
