[Bug 2069993] Re: Panels show garbage or flickering when i915.psr2 enabled

2024-09-10 Thread En-Wei Wu
** Description changed:

  SRU verification for oem-6.8-noble:

  [Impact]
  In https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-oem-6.5/+bug/2046315,
  we've cherry-picked the 8 patches from the most recent mainline kernel to
oem-6.8
  to fix the panel flickering problem in the Dell OEM project. However,
  OEM reports that the patches have regression on 6.8.0-1006-oem.

  For now, we apply the workaround patches from oem-6.5 to fix the bug.
  In the meantime, we've reported the issue to Intel and are waiting for the
fix.
  Once the fix is available in the mainline kernel, we'll backport the fix into
  oem-6.8 kernel and revert the workaround patches, as well as submit them to
Oracular.

  Upstream bug: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/intel/-/issues/9739

  Upstream patch submission:
  https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/series/137524/

  [Fix]
  Apply workaround patches from oem-6.5 to oem-6.8

+ *** Update ***
+ For oem-6.11, cherry-pick two upstream fixes currently in linux-next:
+
+ a13494de5325 drm/i915/display: Increase Fast Wake Sync length as a quirk
+ 43cf50eb1408 drm/i915/display: Add mechanism to use sink model when applying
quirk
+
  [Test Plan]
  The machines mentioned in the attachment (containing the problematic panel's
EDID) would have flickering graphics with the linux-6.8.0-1006-oem kernel.

  The flickering graphic is gone after applying the workaround patches.

  [Where problems could occur]
  The workaround patches add some quirks that disable PSR2 on some panels. So
far, there are 7 panels listed in the quirks (other panels used by OEM products
are flickering-free without the patches).

  If OEM starts using other panels in the future, it's not sure that the
  panels will be flickering-free.

[Bug 2077579] Re: Potential regression: Microcode SW error detected in linux 5.4.0.195.193

2024-08-29 Thread En-Wei Wu
Hi @Pierre, I've tried running fwts to do S3 suspend/resume and reboot
many times. But I couldn't reproduce this Microcode SW error.

Btw, does the connection and functionality of WiFi device remain active
after the error reported? If so, we may reduce the importance of the bug
because it doesn't have the functionality effect.

For further test, maybe we can test the mainline kernel on this machine
to check if the error is specific to the machine.

[Bug 2077579] Re: Potential regression: Microcode SW error detected in linux 5.4.0.195.193

2024-08-28 Thread En-Wei Wu
Usually, Microcode SW error of iwlwifi happens to occur when the iwlwifi
driver doesn't match the FW.

For firmware, Focal uses linux-firmware 1.187.39, which has the newest
iwlwifi FW: iwlwifi-QuZ-a0-hr-b0-66.ucode (used by the machine reporting
the Microcode SW error.) as the upstream.

So we may need to bisect the iwlwifi patches for Focal to see which
patch causes the error to happen.

[Bug 2076881] Re: btintel: Prevent BRI traffic crosstalking with WiFi module

2024-08-13 Thread En-Wei Wu
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
  BRI (Bluetooth Radio Interface) traffic from CNVr to CNVi was found causing
  cross talk step errors to WiFi. Therefore, Bluetooth is turned on, the WiFi
  may be disrupted by Bluetooth and thus not work reliably.

  [Fix]
  Apply the patch
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git/commit/drivers/bluetooth/btintel.c?id=c707097a446ce3d284bc9f05736dc4701d2b8168
 on noble-oem-6.11

  [Test Plan]
- 1. Compile noble-oem-6.11 with config BT_INTEL_PCIE on
+ 1. Compile noble-oem-6.11
  2. Include Bluetooth FWs ibt-0190-0291-iml.sfi, ibt-0190-0291.ddc,
ibt-0190-0291.sfi in /lib/firmware/intel/
  ( These FWs are not public yet. We're going to do SRU in the future once the
FWs are landed on the upstream linux-firmrware)
  3. Include WiFi FWs bz-b0-fm-c0-92.ucode in /lib/firmware/
  ( The same. These FWs are not public yet )
  4. Boot the noble-oem-6.11 kernel
  5. Test WiFi functionality.

  [Where problems could occur]
  The patch makes use of UEFI variable. If the variable is somehow not shown in
the ROM, there might be some error.

[Bug 2073538] Re: kacpi_notify high cpu on interrupt gpe17

2024-07-31 Thread En-Wei Wu
Hi @Bill,

Sorry for the late reply. It seems like the problem is strongly related to the
error message in comment #3. However, the clue is not that clear. Could you
please try the following steps to help us get more debug info:
1. Blacklist the ucsi_acpi.ko and boot
2. Login as root, then $ echo 'file ucsi.c +p' >
/sys/kernel/debug/dynamic_debug/control
3. Load the ucsi_acpi.ko
4. Dump the dmesg here

Thank you for your time.

2024-07-28 Thread En-Wei Wu
Hi @Tim,

Thank you for your report.

Since this issue is like to be an issue from upstream Linux kernel, I
suggest that you can file a bug report on Linux Bugzilla:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/.

Thanks again.

[Bug 2073676] Re: after update of kernel HDMI audio is not working

2024-07-26 Thread En-Wei Wu
Hi @Theis,

Thank you for your report.

I'm wondering if it is a regression because you said the HDMI is
malfunctioned after updating the system.

Before the 6.8.0-38-generic, what kernel version did you use with HDMI
well functioning? It will help us a lot to know if the issue can/can't
be reproduced on a certain version.

Thanks.

As the issue seems to be an ACPI/BIOS problem and not a kernel issue, I
suggest that you file a bug report on HP community and possibly update

[Bug 2073252] Re: [Dell XPS 13 9340] [i915] After recent update, screen is corrupted level with mouse pointer

2024-07-21 Thread En-Wei Wu
Hi @Aaron,

We're communicating with Intel to have some fixes on certain panels, the
upstream bug is here:
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/i915/kernel/-/issues/9739.

Intel has a progress that they have added a quirk on a specific panel
(to be more precise, a laptop model):
https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/series/135777/. I'm sure they're going
to fix more panels in the future.

But for oem-6.8, we may still use Ubuntu's local patch/quirk.

[Bug 2073252] Re: [Dell XPS 13 9340] [i915] After recent update, screen is corrupted level with mouse pointer

2024-07-21 Thread En-Wei Wu
Hi @AaronMa and @John,

This bug is related to the bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2069993,
and we had some quirk fixing on these panels:

Panels show garbage or flickering when i915.psr2 enabled (LP: #2069993)
- SAUCE: drm/i915/display/psr: add a psr2 disable quirk table
- SAUCE: drm/i915/display/psr: disable psr2 for panel_0x4d_0x10_0x93_0x15
- SAUCE: drm/i915/display/psr: disable psr2 for panel_0x30_0xe4_0x8b_0x07
- SAUCE: drm/i915/display/psr: disable psr2 for panel_0x30_0xe4_0x78_0x07
- SAUCE: drm/i915/display/psr: disable psr2 for panel_0x30_0xe4_0x8c_0x07
- SAUCE: drm/i915/display/psr: disable psr2 for panel_0x06_0xaf_0x9a_0xf9
- SAUCE: drm/i915/display/psr: disable psr2 for panel_0x4d_0x10_0x8f_0x15
- SAUCE: drm/i915/display/psr: disable psr2 for panel_0x06_0xaf_0xa3_0xc3

So for this bug here, we would like to add a quirk on user's panel (the
exact same way as we've done before).

@John, please follow the instruction below to give us the information of
your panel used by Dell XPS 13 9340:

1. Install the needed package:
```
sudo apt install edid-decode
```
2. Get EDID of your running panel:
```
sudo get-edid | edid-decode
```

Please paste or attach the whole output from edid-decode, thanks.

Hi @George Salukvadze,

Thank you for the try. Could you please also install the latest drm-tip
kernel to figure out if the issue remains? You can get the drm-tip
kernel here: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/tip.git.

Thanks.

[Bug 2073001] Re: Regression: kernel bug upon keyboard disconnect

2024-07-17 Thread En-Wei Wu
Seems like intel_vbtn didn't recognize the switch in the initial setup
code. When switch disconnect event occurred, the code ran into the
following block:

if (!priv->has_switches) {

/* See dual_accel_detect.h for more info */

if (priv->dual_accel)

return;

dev_info(&device->dev, "Registering Intel Virtual Switches input-dev after
receiving a switch event\n");
ret = input_register_device(priv->switches_dev);

if (ret)

return;
priv->has_switches = true;

}

The problem is caused by line 51 in src/dkms.conf (nvidia-fs/2.19.6):
```
BUILD_DEPENDS[0]="nvidia"
```

The `dkms autoinstall` assume we've installed nvidia driver by dkms, but
we're not.

Comment out this line works successfully. I'm wondering if we should
upstream the change.

From the make.log above, it seems that the dkms built nvidia-fs-2.19.6
on 6.5.0-26-generic kernel header. Could you try dkms build the nvidia-
fs-2.19.6 on 6.5.0-27-generic kernel header on your own? (add the -k
6.5.0-27-generic on dkms build)

[Bug 1751517] Re: ubuntu bionic grub can't boot zstd compressed filesystem

2018-03-04 Thread en
possible workaround:
Patch all btrfs-tools so that they don't compress files accessed by grub with
zstd.

pitfall:
If users repair the filesystem from a live-cd, (eg. run defragmentation), they
must make sure that they don't compress files acessed by grub with zstd.

Another option:
Archlinux uses this patched grub version:
