[Bug 946943] Re: idn: info page is a copy of man page
Verified that the problem also exists in 1.23-2 (Ubuntu 12.04 live beta). There doesn't actually appear to be an info page in the package. I suppose it ought to be included, unless its license is problematic or something (in which case the fix would be to remove the pointer to the documentation from the SEE ALSO section of the manual page). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/946943 Title: idn: info page is a copy of man page To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libidn/+bug/946943/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 946943] [NEW] idn: info page is a copy of man page
Public bug reported: This has been a long-standing bug with many package which have documentation in Info format. The manual page directs you to info, but info provides a copy of the same manual page, rather than the full manual. I'm not sure what the correct resolution should be. I know that the coreutils used to suffer from this, too, but apparently fixed it somehow. Perhaps the longer-term solution would involve fixing the info package somehow. $ man idn | tail -n 12 | head -n 8 SEE ALSO The full documentation for idn is maintained as a Texinfo manual. [Bug 890688] [NEW] 50git-core.el loads nothing on emacs 23.1.1
Public bug reported: I installed git-core and expected the Emacs support to also load. However, it contains a hedge condition which prevents it from loading on Emacs 23. Curiously, the comment states that the Git stuff is already included in Emacs 23, but I find that this is not the case with the Emacs 23.1.1 we have on Ubuntu Lucid. Perhaps I am overlooking something obvious; in any case, the obvious workaround seems to work for me; (let ((emacs-version "22")) (load-file "/etc/emacs/site-start.d/50git-core.el")) I notice that the Emacs support has been split out to git-el in newer versions of Ubuntu, but I'm posting this so that others who have the same problem can at least find a discussion of it. era@lvcid$ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS Release:10.04 era@lvcid$ apt-cache policy git-core emacs23 git-core: Installed: 1:1.7.0.4-1ubuntu0.2 Candidate: 1:1.7.0.4-1ubuntu0.2 Version table: *** 1:1.7.0.4-1ubuntu0.2 0 500 http://mirrors.nic.funet.fi/ubuntu/ lucid-updates/main Packages 500 http://mirrors.nic.funet.fi/ubuntu/ lucid-security/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1:1.7.0.4-1 0 500 http://mirrors.nic.funet.fi/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages emacs23: Installed: 23.1+1-4ubuntu7.2 Candidate: 23.1+1-4ubuntu7.2 Version table: *** 23.1+1-4ubuntu7.2 0 500 http://mirrors.nic.funet.fi/ubuntu/ lucid-updates/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 23.1+1-4ubuntu7 0 500 http://mirrors.nic.funet.fi/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages ** Affects: git-core (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/890688 Title: 50git-core.el loads nothing on emacs 23.1.1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/git-core/+bug/890688/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 873810] Re: could not install dictionaries-common when upgrading to ubuntu 11.10
Sorry for the crude answer. As you can imagine, the Oneiric release shakes out a whole lot of bugs which ought to have been discovered during alpha and beta testing, but which still only now begin to show. Because of the large number of new bugs to process, I neglected to include detailed triage instructions; it is obviously too late now, but for future reference, on a working system, it would have been a simple apport-collect command to add the missing logs; see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Responses#Missing_Apport_Information (but then on the other hand, on a properly working system, they would have been included automatically). Obviously, if you have reinstalled your system, the problem you reported cannot be investigated with any accuracy any longer. In such cases, the proper way to proceed would be to tag this case as Invalid and close it. That is not to imply that your pain and frustration are unimportant, just that this bug tracker's workflow considers as valid only bugs which can meaningfully be investigated. If it is any consolation, your diagnosis of errors with *.pem files coupled with similar reports from others point to a possible problem with the ca-certificates package. This may or may not have been the root cause for the problems you experienced, but your input helps set the priority for looking into the apparent bug in this particular package. My apologies for not taking the time to give you proper instructions for following up on this. I hope this incident and how I mishandled it will not have harmed your trust in Ubuntu. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/873810 Title: could not install dictionaries-common when upgrading to ubuntu 11.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ca-certificates/+bug/873810/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This bug keeps getting a steady trickle of duplicates from Lucid users. I will be trying to get an SRU for this. The changes in 5.7.1-2 are very minor; other than the fix for this bug, the dependencies have been updated. > BTW: was all text entered in this thread spell checked ? ;-) Clearly the OP used a French spelling dictionary when originally reporting this bug (^: Note that the majority of the non-English sites I come across seem to specify English as their language. Developers are not always aware that there is a setting that they need to change, and some tools are hard- coded to output a template which specifies English, so that the site owner cannot override it even if they wanted to. Hence there needs to be (a) a manual override for the spelling dictionary; and / or (b) perhaps a heuristic to determine what language a page "really" is in, to cope with the real world as well as the W3C specifications. I suppose (b) needs to be a separate bug report, once this one is fixed and deployed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/303269 Title: Automatically select language for spell check based on user input To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/firefox/+bug/303269/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 796381] Re: Too many language variants
I'm tempted to mark this as Confirmed, not because this particularly bugs me, but because the reasoning makes sense, and the bug exposes a fundamental design problem in dictionaries-common: what is installed is installed system-wide, with no optoin for the user to override what is being displayed. Perhaps one could argue that this should be pushed down to individual applications which use dictionaries-common, but most Ubuntu installations are single-user (hard to say what sort of statistics to assume for the Debian upstream) and should give the user control over this type of thing. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/796381 Title: Too many language variants To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dictionaries-common/+bug/796381/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 616159] Re: Japanese incorrect/archaic Kanji
The status Incomplete basically means there is information missing. In this case I would actually say that it is correct, as (at least) one crucial detail is missing, namely the names of the fonts. Our apologies for taking so long to get back to you. Ubuntu bug triage is handled mainly by volunteers, and sadly, not all packages get a lot of attention all the time. [Bug 775369] Re: Update manager removes xscreensaver and replaces with gnome-screensaver
Thanks for the link, I was vaguely familiar with the criticisms against gnome-screensaver but it's good to have a reference here. It's probably moot to argue (in this bug) about whether or not ubuntu- desktop should or should not depend on gnome-screensaver, but the fact that you successfully replaced it, and it reverted your preference when you upgraded, is a bug. I'm not sure where it should be properly filed so I'm leaving both tasks open. (I originally created a second task because there doesn't seem to be a way in Launchpad to reassign from a non-Ubuntu project to a package within the Ubuntu project. Maybe there is a way but if so, I could not discover it.) For completeness, could you still confirm whether the upgrade actually removed the xscreensaver package from your system, or just replaced your preferences to use gnome-screensaver but left xscreensaver (nominally) installed on your system? The former would be a bug in its own right, but I suspect the case here is the latter. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/775369 Title: Update manager removes xscreensaver and replaces with gnome- screensaver -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This is hardly a bug in update-manager. The output of "aptitude why gnome-screensaver" on my system indicates that ubuntu-desktop depends on gnome-screensaver. You may be able to work around this by installing a dummy equivs package, or perhaps by setting the status of xscreensaver to "hold".
