[Bug 1770044] Re: plasmashell crashes on login - so I can't use my desktop system.

2019-01-23 Thread fab
As suggested by @GordonLack I observe that also in a desktop pc it had
happened an operation like this immediately before the manifestation of
the symptom, precisely the request for a print preview from an
application which, however, had not set a program to be used to manage
the display. This event is therefore almost certainly the origin of the
bug.

[Bug 73536]

2019-01-06 Thread R-fab
Created attachment 8750107
Bug 336193 handle SIGTERM in SignalPipeWatcher then in the main thread to quit

What about the attempt in this patch? I intercept SIGTERM using
"SignalPipeWatcher" as suggested, then I pass a task to the main thread
so it calls "nsIAppStartup::Quit(nsIAppStartup::eForceQuit)".

That may seem convoluted, it would look better if it was done in one go.

I don't have any experience on the Firefox codebase, so I may completely
misunderstand the issues. If "Quit" is executed by the main thread (like
it would be after a keyboard key for example), wouldn't it avoid the
aforementioned problems with the locks.

I also have the same since since 2016-05-12. Is there any
straightforward way to solve this. I have tried to downgrade libnl via
Synaptic but it fails. I have no clue how to solve this. Any
suggestions?

[Bug 1060160] Re: [ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. UX31A] suspend/resume failure

2012-10-14 Thread fab
I won't have the UX31A with me for a few days. I had to send it back to ASUS to
be serviced under warranty as I had issues with the keyboard (some keys stopped
working - It looks like a hardware issue, the keyboard flat cable may not be
properly connected).
I'll be able to test what you suggested when I get it back.

As a matter of fact, I haven't had this issue again since the update of
the standard Quantal kernel to v. 3.5.0-17.

Could it be that this bug is fixed starting from 3.5.0-17?

[Bug 1060160] Re: [ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. UX31A] suspend/resume failure

2012-10-05 Thread fab
Tested kernenl 3.6 mailine: That bug seems to be fixed with it.

I've now removed the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag, added a 'kernel-
fixed-upstream' tag, and marked the bug as 'Cofirmed' as requested.

I have to revert to the standard Quantal kernel though (3.5.0-17) as
kernel 3.6 mainline gives me other issues (e.g. heavy audio distortion
in Skype)

I've just tried kernel v3.5-rc6-quantal on 12.04, and still the computer

This only happens when I start the computer on battery.

If I start it connected to the mains, it does not hang at the login
screen.

[Bug 759094] Re: Linux 2.6.38-8-generic doesn't boot on Toshiba Satellite A60

2011-05-10 Thread fab
Hi again,

I've just added the xorg-edgers ppa
(https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa) and installed kernel
2.6.39-1.6
This kernel allows Ubuntu to boot without setting acpi=off

Hope this helps finding a solution.

[Bug 759094] Re: Linux 2.6.38-8-generic doesn't boot on Toshiba Satellite A60

2011-04-30 Thread fab
Hi there

Natty (2.6.38-8-generic) doesn't boot on my wife's Toshiba Satellite A60 as
well after the upgrade from Maverik.
It doesn't boot from Natty's Live CD either.
Same situation as the OP.

The error code is 0x67/0x6c

acpi=off makes it boot but doing so there is no USB and PCMCIA
connectivity.

Kernel 2.6.35 from Maverik works, while 2.6.39-rc4 outputs the same
error code.

[Bug 571294] Re: Lucid Linx: built in microphone doesn't work anymore

2010-10-09 Thread fab
Hi there,

FYI

I've just upgraded to Maverick and the issue is still there: the
internal mic works, while there's not input when I connect an external
microphone.

I still have to add options snd-hda-intel model=toshiba to alsa-
base.conf in order to get any input from an external mic,

This way the mic autoswitching doesn't work, but this gives me a
selection box under gnome-volume-control Input which lets me choose
either Line-in, Microphone 2 or Microphone 1.

[Bug 571294] Re: Lucid Linx: built in microphone doesn't work anymore

2010-05-03 Thread fab
Hi Daniel,

It seems that I've found a temporary workaround to this bug.

I've tried all the possible options for snd-hda-intel in /etc/modprobe.d
/alsa-base.conf and in the end I had some success with options snd-hda-
intel model=toshiba (even if the laptop brand is HP).

In this case the mic autoswitching doesn't work (i.e. the sound input
must be selected manually), but I now have a selection box under gnome-
volume-control Input which lets me choose either Line-in, Microphone
2 or Microphone 1.

Please let me know if you need any further info.
Thanks in advance!

Got it, thanks.
I've reverted to kernel -21 and installed linux-alsa-driver-modules version

Unfortunately, that didn't help as I still cannot use the internal mic.

Is there anything else I could try?

Hi there,

I might have bumped into a similar problem.
After a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04, the built in mic of my laptop doesn't
seem to work.

I understand (post #10) that we do not have any checkbox for internal/external
mic selection and autoswitching is done based on jack presence.
In my case an external microphone connected to the 1/8 jack input works but if
I disconnect it, the internal mic doesn't work at all.

[Bug 431846] [NEW] [karmic] sound from built-in speakers only when headphones plugged in / pulseaudio - 1:0.9.17-0ubuntu2~ubuntuaudiodev1

2009-09-17 Thread fab
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

With the latest pulseaudio update (pulseaudio -
1:0.9.17-0ubuntu2~ubuntuaudiodev1) from Audio Dev team PPA I'm
experiencing the following (weird) problem.

In order to have any audio output from the built in speakers I must plug
in the headphones.

Sound Preferences Output Connector is correctly set to Analog
Output.

If I switch it to Analog Headphones I have sound through the
headphones (as it should be) - but if I set the option to Analog
Output without having the headphones plugged in I have no sound at all.

I'm using Karmic on a HP laptop (model DV9850EL)

cat /proc/asound/cards returns the following message:

 0 [Intel ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel
HDA Intel at 0xf840 irq 22

Is there anything else I need to attach in order to help?

Thanks in advance

Stupid me.

I just forgot to delete .pulse and .pulse-cookie and then kill/start
pulseaudio.

Sorry about this.
This is not a bug.

2009-09-13 Thread fab
Hi Daniel,

Thanks for your help.
Please find attached the outputs for the commands you asked to run.

It seems that also in my case the issue is with the modem driver -
disabling it from Hardware Drivers fixes the sound.

[Bug 394500] Re: [karmic] pulseaudio: card not found - Null Output

2009-09-07 Thread fab
Hi Ubuntu Audio Team,

Is there any news on this bug?

It would be good to have the internal audio device recognised by pulseaudio on
this HP laptop (and potentially on many other notebooks out there).
New users will easily be put off by not having any sound out-of-the-box when
they install the final version of Karmic.

Just to recap:

- Pulseaudio 1:0.9.16 test6 and test7: the internal audio device on an HP
laptop (DV9850EL) is not recognised and therefore pulseaudio doesn't show any
input/output audio device = No audio playback/recording
- ALSA seems to work fine
- Previous versions of pulseaudio used to work (up to ver. 1:0.9.16~test5)
- Additional USB audio devices work (tested it with a VoIP phone and an IK
Multimedia StealthPlug)

Thanks in advance

Petera,

so I deleted pulseaudio and now sound works.

Well, this is up to you.
But tell me just one thing: why do you bother testing an OS which is still
under development if you are not ready to deal with some (hopefully)
temporary issues/bugs?

If you want a stable system, please stick to Jaunty until the final version
of Karmic is released.

[Bug 394500] Re: [karmic] pulseaudio: card not found - Null Output

2009-09-01 Thread fab
Hi petera,

As Karmic is still under intense development, I believe it is understandable
that we might bump into bugs/regressions. The point in using Karmic now is to
help test the system and report all bugs here.
The developers will then do their best to fix all the major issues before the
final release (Oct 09).
Therefore it won't be of much help if you overwrite/downgrade your Karmic
installation at this stage (You always have the option to install Jaunty as you
main/production system on a separate partition and keep testing Karmic at the
same time).

Regarding the above mentioned issue, I don't know if this could be of
any help, but I forgot to mention that pulseaudio 1:0.9.16~test5 ran
fine on Karmic. The problem started only with version 1:0.9.16~test6

[Bug 394500] Re: [karmic] pulseaudio: card not found - Null Output

2009-08-29 Thread fab
I think I've found a temporary workaround (not a solution).

I've opened /etc/pulse/default.pa and commented 4 lines.

Before:

### Automatically load driver modules depending on the hardware available
.ifexists module-udev-detect.so
load-module module-udev-detect
.else
### Alternatively use the static hardware detection module (for systems that
### lack udev support)
load-module module-detect
.endif

After:

### Automatically load driver modules depending on the hardware available
#.ifexists module-udev-detect.so
#load-module module-udev-detect
#.else
### Alternatively use the static hardware detection module (for systems that
### lack udev support)
load-module module-detect
#.endif

Then I killed/restated pulseaudio and now I have audio input/output from the
internal audio device.

Still, the Hardware tab under Sound Preferences is empty, as if there
was no audio device available.

Sound Preferences Hardware Choose a device to configure: (empty
field)

[Bug 2772] Re: [feisty] vlc key shortcuts doesnt work

2007-06-28 Thread Fab
Hi

Same here!

I think this could be fixed by adding the latest version of VLC to the
Ubuntu Repositories.

[Bug 88897] Re: Filezilla fails to retrieve directory listing

2007-03-18 Thread fab
I think I have the same problem I tried to retrieve the list and it just
disconnected, it makes the same problem each time I try retrieving the same
folder.
I have the dapper version.

[Bug 38865] Re: [Bug 38865] Re: sky2 driver freezing system after ifdown and ifup

2006-09-25 Thread fab
I just want to advertise with actual kernel sky2 driver is still not
working (stops transfering data under high load, even if I disable
autonegociation). But, sk98lin driver loads and works like a charm
(unlike before).

BTW, Thanks for your work.

Well, no one tested my kernels. I could just back out the fix because of

If it isn't fixed, then we'll have to wait for the next kernel update.

I think my problem is associated to a wrong bug, I use sky2 and it's ok
after ifup/ifdown with latest ubuntu kernel... but when I transfert a
file (high usage of the network card) it stops working, and I have to
reload reload the module and reconfigure everything...
I'm ready to test something if you want to.

Best regards.
