Re: [Bug 86039] Re: knetworkmanager can't connect to dlink di-524 using wpa-psk
Hi Yuriy, As it turned out (k)ubuntu 8.04 improved my wireless networking experience by leaps and bounds. I took the time to test the reliability of wireless connections on my computers under 8.04 for the last two months and I'm now very happy with the performance. I almost always get stable long lasting connections. Thanks very much to you and the team(s) behind behind the recent improvements. I believe you can close this bug for 8.04. [Bug 204065] Re: Hardy - severe graphical issues with i945GM graphics
Have the same problem on my Toshiba Satellite Pro A110 (has Intel 945 GM or something). Here's what I did: From CD boot the desktop (as if you wanted to try the OS first) not the installer. You may get a working desktop without font scaling problems from which you can launch the installer and perhaps successfully install the OS onto your harddisk(s). Reboot your machine. You may still get a login manager with improperly scaled fonts. Try to log in even if you can't see/read your login data. You may again get a proper looking desktop. Some apps may not work properly - my mythfrontend is squashed horizontally. Installing the git fix (found elsewhere) fixes the login manager on my machine but breaks mythfrontend. Re: [Bug 86039] Re: knetworkmanager can't connect to dlink di-524 using wpa-psk
Hi Yuriy, Thanks for the response. Yes, indeed, I do still have this problem. I've never been able to connect to my wireless router(s) with my four year old Toshiba Satellite 5200 Notebook. The notebook uses an Atheros chipset based wireless card - I don't have access to my notebook at the moment and can give you further details no later then next week. I've tried two different routers, a US Robotics and a D-Link model - I'll let you know about the specific models. Curiously, my office notebook (a one year old Toshiba Satellite P100, which has a more modern Atheros chip than the Satellite P5200) can connect and maintain, although somewhat unrealiably, via WPA-PSK with my router(s). Both notebooks and routers are configured with up-to-date kubuntu OS/router firmware. The Satellite P100 fairly regularly looses but can successfully re-establish a wireless connection within a few seconds. Please let me know if you need any further details. [Bug 117613] Re: [kubuntu] Sometimes the Trash cannot be emtied
Similar to your symptoms, the Empty trashcan menu entry on the trashcan is disabled although the icon shows the trashcan is not empty when there are only files from hidden directories in it - I have not checked but expect the same behaviour for hidden files (by hidden I mean that the path to the deleted file contains at least one directory whose name starts with a dot or the name of the file itself starts with a dot). Curiously, and I assume you experience the same behaviour, the trashcan icon changes from empty to non-empty. I have experienced this on and off for quite a while now (possibly back in feisty already - I can't remember) not run any further tests but it seems that as soon as a non-hidden file goes in the trashcan, I can actually empty it again. I have not tried suspending my machine but rebooting it does not enable emptying the trashcan. Consequently, I think that the trashcan application uses a methods to a) determine whether there are files in it that is different from b) that enables the Empty trashcan feature in the trashcan menu. Hope this helps. [Bug 86039] Re: knetworkmanager can't connect to dlink di-524 using wpa-psk
I have some additional info to my earlier post. I've tried it with the router broadcasting the SSID (same as above but no hidden router ID). Result: knetworkmanager detects the router and displays an entry under Wireless Networks; clicking it brings up the log in menu and asks for WPA Personal key - other key type option are disabled (greyed out). After key entry progress unfortunately just hangs again at 28% until some timeout occurs (I estimate after about two to five minutes). Something goes wrong while a connection is trying to be established. I've noticed the Synaptics Touchpad no synaptics event device found in /var/log/Xorg.0.log as well while I was trying to get the Synaptics mouse pad on my Toshiba Satellite 5200 to work properly (it seems that after having upgraded to Feisty - in beta as of today - the mouse pointer on my machine likes to jump nine times out of ten like it used to in earlier Edgy versions whenever my finger touches the pad too far off center - the direction it jumps on the screen corresponds with the offset of my finger from the pad center which can drive you crazy). I've uninstalled KSynaptics after attempts it would help me fix the jumpy mouse pointer had failed and my mental sanity was endangered.
