[Bug 551438] Re: Eats CPU time

2012-07-06 Thread fhucho
Pommed is using about 3 % of my CPU (MBP 7,1), it's checking the light
sensor every 200 ms. If I change the frequency (KBD_TIMEOUT in
kbd_backlight.h) to every 10 s and recompile, it uses only 0.2 - 0.3 %.

[Bug 427268] [NEW] Font hinting set defaultly slight, not full

2009-09-10 Thread fhucho
Public bug reported:

When I installed Ubuntu on my new HP Compaq 615, the default font
settings looked quite ugly. It was set to [Subpixel smoothing] and to
improve the looks I changed it to [Best shapes], which wasn't ideal but
it was definetly an improvement. After a few days I noticed the
[Details...] button in Appereance dialog and found out that when
[Subpixel smoothing] is set, than [Font hinting] is set to slight. After
I changed it to full, the font appereance improved incredibly.

So after installation Ubuntu should set the default font to Subpixel
smoothing and Full hinting. As for now it sets only Subpixel smoothing
with Slight hinting, which looks significantly worse, at least on my
notebook.

[Bug 232285] [NEW] Subtitle encoding in Totem based on current locale

2008-05-20 Thread fhucho
Public bug reported:

I am using Czech localization of Ubuntu and when I watch movies in
English I often use Czech subtitles which are in the CP1250 encoding.
The default encoding is UTF-8, so without any settings the subtitles are
messed up with strange characters. Vast majority of people don't know
where is the problem. The subtitle encoding Totem is using should be set
depending on the current localization, so e.g. when I set Czech
localization, Totem would use CP1250 when opening subtitles.

[Bug 148179] Re: Smaller font in terminal

2008-05-11 Thread fhucho
I am using Ubuntu Hardy, but this bug is valid for every Ubuntu version. Maybe
this is rather a wish than a bug, I have seen the big font on every Ubuntu
installation I have come across. I think that this bug (or wish) is present on
every Ubuntu installation. The font size can be changed by setting the vga
kernel parameter in /boot/grub/menu.lst.
You can find out how to set the vga parameter value in this forum:

[Bug 206183] Re: Gaupol freezes the system after I select Open Recent in menu

2008-04-03 Thread fhucho
I tried to remove .recently-used.xbel, but it unfortunately didn't help.

After the system freezes, the processor is almost idle (I had to switch to
terminal via Ctrl + Alt + F1 and run top to find this out).
I also tried to wait 2 minutes after the system freezed but nothing happened.
If I run gaupol from terminal, it gives out this output:

PyEnchant not found;
spell-checking not possible.
Universal Encoding Detector not found;
character encoding auto-detection not possible.
/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/gaupol/gtk/util.py:105: GtkWarning:

The both warnings appear immediately after I move the cursor over the
Open Recent item.

[Bug 146687] Re: [gutsy beta] installer hangs when formatting partitions

I was installing Gutsy on Dell GX150 (256MB RAM, harddisk is labeled
/dev/sda). I was installing on /dev/sda2 , where was already Ubuntu
7.04. The installation halted also at 5% when formatting ext3. I
manually partitioned the disk. When I tried for the second time, I let
the installer to automatically partition the disk (use largest
continuous space) and it let sda2 (ext3) and sda3 (swap) untouched and
created sda4 (ext3) and sda5 (swap). For this time it suprisingly
worked.

Public bug reported:

I installed Gutsy Tribe 5, restarted PC and tried to switch user and
hibernate - both worked. Then I installed nvidia driver and restarted to
Compiz-enabled desktop. After I select another user from the fast user
switcher applet, the screen goes black and I must hard reset the PC. The
same happens when I try to hibernate.

I have NVidia GeForce4 420 MX, LCD monitor Philips 170B (1280x1024).

If you need some additional info, please tell me.

OK, I changed this bug only to the switching issue (Bug #88152 is
different).

[Bug 135809] Re: [Gutsy] User switching not working with nvidia driver

2007-08-30 Thread fhucho
Setting vga=795 unfortunately doesn't help. I also tried some tips in Bug
#32389 - uninstalling usplash and setting vga=normal but nothing helped.
But it seems this bug isn't the problem in Bug #32389 - on my PC Ctrl+Alt+F1
works fine.
Also after I switch to another user and the screen goes black a strange beep
sequence (which is a fragment of a second long) gets out of the PC case.

[Bug 118745] Re: Font sizes in Gutsy are affected by bad X.org DPI detection

2007-08-29 Thread fhucho
Hi,
I have tried Gutsy Tribe 5 and in the default install, the fonts are too big. I
have 17 LCD monitor, 1280x1024. In Appereance Preferences, the Application
font and the Document font are set to 11, although in Feisty they are set to
10. The size 10 fonts look MUCH better.

[Bug 135319] Usplash progress bar not centered on the monitor

2007-08-28 Thread fhucho
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: usplash

When Gutsy Tribe 5 is booting, the usplash progress bar is not centered, it's a
bit to right. The Ubuntu logo is OK.
I have LCD monitor Philips 170B, resolution 1280x1024.
Another thing is that usplash is not using the full resolution.

[Bug 102495] Re: 'Always perform this action': Ignore for photo card option doesn't work.

2007-08-22 Thread fhucho
When I plug in my mobile phone k750i, the Photo Import dialog appears, I
check the checkbox Always perform this action and consequently press the
Ignore button. But when I plug it next time, the dialog appears again - the
option Always perform this action doesn't work.
I am using Ubuntu 7.04 with Gnome.

[Bug 131081] Re: Should skip account migration entirely if no accounts are present

I also wanted to report this wish - I think that skipping the migration
step when nothing can be imported is the best option.

[Bug 129707] Re: Wish: Smooth progress bar progressing while booting

2007-08-11 Thread fhucho
Maybe it could be done this way: let's say that the booting has 3
checkpoints - A, B, C.
A - start (0%)
B - drivers are loaded
C - services are running, system is booted (100%)
Before checkpoint A, the system reads from some file - e.g. boottimes - what
time last every booting phase (for example, after installation in boottimes is
that AB lasts 10 s and BC lasts 50 s). So in every boot, the system reads
boottimes and the progress bar behaves depending on the values in boottimes.
And while booting it also measures the times (between A and B and C) and writes
them in boottimes after booting finishes.

And of course, it would be better if the progress bar moved smoothly
between every two checkpoints.

[Bug 86970] Re: Printing from Java does not work

2007-07-29 Thread fhucho
I have Feisty Fawn, java packages sun-java6-* and cups version 1.2.8.
When I tried to print from my Java application a message No print
service found appeared. I googled a solution - create a file
/etc/cups/client.conf and put a single line ServerName localhost in it
(without the quotation marks). After that, it works OK.
