[Bug 1004597] Re: Sudden hard reset (reboot) caused by VirtualBox

2012-10-20 Thread finisdiem
This bug also affects me. I've tried installing virtual book versions
4.1.12, 4.1.18, 4.1.22, and 4.2. They have all caused a sudden system
reboot wile installing or starting a VM. I've tried disabling 2d and 3d,
not using usb, not using extensions or additions.

I am installing from amd64 host to x86 XP guest.

I have finally got it to work. after Ubuntu Server upgrade to 12.10 from
12.04 i installed Virtualbox 4.1.18 with extentions and it crashed
again. I was using the nvidaia-current driver. i changed to the open
xorg driver and i have been able to install and run virtualbox VMs
without it crashing.

Seems to be a nvidia issue. I cant use the new desktop enviornment with
the nvidia driver disabled. Has anyone found a soluiton to this?

Yes please, if you do switch back to 32bit anyway, then please confirm
the suspend and hibernation are working fine.

If yes I will switch to 32bit , myself, too.

2011-06-06 Thread finisdiem
thanks but this didnt work for me it returned:
ERROR: Module iwlagn does not exist in /proc/modules
ERROR: Module iwlcore does not exist in /proc/modules
but i also think it is a problem with my wireless driver. how can i keep
blank screen or suspend from turning off the wireless in the first place?

I've got similar issue on my Dell Inspiron 6400. And I've tracked it down
to intel wifi driver. I have iwl 5300 card installed - and as I can see at
least some people here have intel wifi too.
My system hangs during suspend, but if I do 'sudo rmmod iwlagn' it
suspends/resumes fine. But I also have latest compat-wireless installed from
source. You might also want to try 'sudo rmmod iwlagn iwlcore'
Anyway, I'm not sure how this all related, but I think it might worth a try
 to isolate issue.

[Bug 786713] [NEW] freeze after resume from suspend or blank screen

2011-05-22 Thread finisdiem
Public bug reported:

this may be a duplicate of bug 772834. I have a Dell inspiron 9300 with
11.04. I upgraded to 10.10 from 10.04. i upgraded to 11.04 alpha with no
problem until a fresh install of 11.04 final release.

when i resume from suspend or blank screen my computer is frozen. the
time is frozen at the second of suspend and only my mouse moves. a pop-
up message telling me my wireless is disconnected. i read that this may
be part of my problem.

This happens if i let it go into suspend by sitting idle, push the
suspend button or close my laptop lid.
