I've tested this with SSD boot on 12.04, 12.10 and 13.04, all with success, no issues: Place this line in /etc/rc.local just before exit 0: sleep 2 && service lightdm restart This works everytime for me and my setup. I installed gdm and selected it instead of lightdm, rebooted and login went directly to desktop, hi-res, 3DUnity. I have this same issue with both 12.04 and 12.10... don't think it's a kernel problem. Using ctrl-alt-F1 at boot-up black screen and using terminal to issue these: sudo service lightdm restart immediately brings up the desktop, Unity3D, Intel HD3000, dual SSDs, 8GB RAM. Have tried many different BIOS settings without success. Booting is not an issue. Using Ubuntu 12.04 Beta 1. Using Linux-3.2.0-17, 4GB of SDRAM. Kernel log seems to show that the problem is an ACPI issue. But I know of no workarounds. Please help. Thank you! With the box I'm having this trouble with, gvfs 0.2.2 is what I'm using but still have the same issues. OTOH, I installed on another partition the beta Hardy CD, then installed all the updates, about 200 at once, and the issue is not there. So we likely have a situation that if you haven't updated the original beta daily, or something like that, missing an update or more, then having updates overlay updates, this issue we are seeing occurs. I'll keep both installs and keep them updated daily and see what happens until the release. It worked correctly, could access files remotely, unmount the server. So... So it would seem it is how I likely updated the original beta each day, maybe missing a day or so. Thanks, Pedro, for you quick response. I have attached one of over 10,000 wmf files that would render in Feisty correctly. There is nothing special about how to go about this, click on the fake thumbnail in the program window... I have three installs of Gutsy, two 64-bit, one 32-bit. All do the same in gThumb and Nautilus. Steps, load OS, run Nautilus, go to folder that contains some wmfs and click on one of them. Nothing but a black screen. [Bug 121364] Re: Nautilus WMF file view memory loss
Well, neither Nautilus nor gThumb render WMF files in Gutsy. They did in Feisty and still do. There must be a plug-in somewhere that is left out of Gutsy that is in Feisty. Please fix. [Bug 110855] Automatic Sessions Save
Public bug reported: Running Feisty 7.04 32-bit, AMD dual processor, 2 gigs of RAM. In System/Preferences/Sessions/Session Options, when the Automatic save changes to session is checked, the next time I boot, the controls on all the program windows are lost. The Save the current session works correctly. The OS is now useless until this is fixed. When I re-boot into the option where the scripts (Safe Mode, I think) are not run, I'm left with desktops clean. And all works as it should.
