[Bug 1724250] Re: gnome-terminal graphic artifact

2018-02-04 Thread Mike Forsberg
I see the same thing. Is there a way to re-initialize to fix the icons?

Re: [Bug 1702063] Re: systemctl -n option ignores values greater than 10

2017-07-03 Thread Jon Forsberg
yep that seems to be the reason. if the service is started it only shows
lines relevant to the current instance, if its not started it will show the
requested number of lines. maybe the manpage should include something about
this. it confused me. feel free to mark this as a feature request or close
it. thanks

[Bug 1702063] [NEW] systemctl -n option ignores values greater than 10

2017-07-03 Thread Jon Forsberg
Public bug reported:

The manpage for systemctl says that -n can be used to specify how many
journal lines to show.

It only works for values <= 10, there is no way to make it show more
than 10 lines. For example 'systemctl -n 100 status SERVICE' shows 10
lines, not 100. 'journalctl -n 100 -u SERVICE' does work as expected
though.

Its confusing if you are not aware of this and can make you miss
important output from a failed program.

[Bug 1628910] [NEW] netcat silently fails without error message when not using -v

2016-09-29 Thread Jon Forsberg
Public bug reported:

$ nc localhost 1234

$ nc -v localhost 1234
nc: connect to localhost port 1234 (tcp) failed: Connection refused

even without the -v option I expect nc to report any errors to stderr instead
of just exiting. i sometimes use nc together with tar as a simple file transfer

[Bug 1585884] [NEW] xrandr unable to activate displays after docking

2016-05-25 Thread Erik Forsberg
Public bug reported:

I use a Dell Latitude E7440 with an "Dell EURO2 Advanced E-Port II
Docking" docking station.

When docking the laptop into the station, it's impossible to enable the
two screens I have attached to the DVI outputs of the docking station. I
use autorandr, and it reports this:

X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
  Major opcode of failed request: 140 (RANDR)
  Minor opcode of failed request: 21 (RRSetCrtcConfig)
  Serial number of failed request: 48
  Current serial number in output stream: 48

This appears to be a bug. Please help improving autorandr by reporting it
upstream.
Please attach the output of `xrandr --verbose` to your bug report if
appropriate.

I'm reporting this as a bug on xserver-xorg-video-intel since the xrandr
command works after reboot, so it's not related to autorandr (which is
just a wrapper around xrandr).

Attaching output of xrandr --verbose

Please let me know if I can do anything more to help identifying the
problem.

[Bug 1417962] Re: 6b34 regression: jps as root does not show classname anymore but instead 'process information unavailable' for processes running as non-root user

2015-02-05 Thread Erik Forsberg
Workaround, in an example where the java process you want to monitor is
running as the "example" user and as pid 999:

ln -s /tmp/hsperfdata_example/999 /tmp/hsperfdata_999

jps, jstat etc now work as before.

The above link can be created in the startup script of the service.

[Bug 1417962] Re: 6b34 regression: jps as root does not show classname anymore but instead 'process information unavailable' for processes running as non-root user

2015-02-05 Thread Erik Forsberg
I see this as well, although on oracle JVM 7u75, but that's no surprise
given that it originates from the same codebase as openjdk-7.

Doing a bit of strace on the jps program shows some interesting data:

# strace -f jps -v 2>&1|grep /tmp/hsperfdata
[pid  9064] open("/tmp/hsperfdata_root", O_RDONLY|O_NOFOLLOW) = 3
[pid  9064] open("/tmp/hsperfdata_root",
O_RDONLY|O_NONBLOCK|O_DIRECTORY|O_CLOEXEC) = 4
[pid  9064] mkdir("/tmp/hsperfdata_root", 0755) = -1 EEXIST (File exists)
[pid  9064] lstat("/tmp/hsperfdata_root", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0755, st_size=4096,
...}) = 0
[pid  9064] open("/tmp/hsperfdata_root", O_RDONLY|O_NOFOLLOW) = 3
[pid  9064] open("/tmp/hsperfdata_root",
O_RDONLY|O_NONBLOCK|O_DIRECTORY|O_CLOEXEC) = 4
[pid  9064] stat("/tmp/hsperfdata_root", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0755, st_size=4096,
...}) = 0
[pid  9064] open("/tmp/hsperfdata_root",
O_RDONLY|O_NONBLOCK|O_DIRECTORY|O_CLOEXEC) = 5
[pid  9064] stat("/tmp/hsperfdata_root/9063", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0600,
st_size=32768, ...}) = 0
[pid  9064] access("/tmp/hsperfdata_root/9063", R_OK) = 0
[pid  9064] stat("/tmp/hsperfdata_cassandra", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0700,
st_size=4096, ...}) = 0
[pid  9064] open("/tmp/hsperfdata_cassandra",
O_RDONLY|O_NONBLOCK|O_DIRECTORY|O_CLOEXEC) = 5
[pid  9064] stat("/tmp/hsperfdata_cassandra/13926", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0600,
st_size=32768, ...}) = 0
[pid  9064] access("/tmp/hsperfdata_cassandra/13926", R_OK) = 0
[pid  9064] open("/tmp/hsperfdata_root", O_RDONLY|O_NOFOLLOW) = 6
[pid  9064] open("/tmp/hsperfdata_root",
O_RDONLY|O_NONBLOCK|O_DIRECTORY|O_CLOEXEC) = 7
[pid  9064] lstat("/tmp/hsperfdata_root", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0755, st_size=4096,
...}) = 0
[pid  9064] open("/tmp/hsperfdata_cassandra", O_RDONLY|O_NOFOLLOW
[pid  9064] open("/tmp/hsperfdata_13926", O_RDONLY
[pid  9064] unlink("/tmp/hsperfdata_root/9063") = 0

I have two processes here:

9063, the jps program, running as root. Shows up as it should.
13926, a cassandra server, running as cassandra user. Does not show up as it
should.

Note how jps is first finding the hsperfdata file in
/tmp/hsperfdata_cassandra, then tries to open /tmp/hsperfdata_13926,
which doesn't exist.

[Bug 923185] Re: Can't clear search with Ubuntu Software Center

2012-06-02 Thread Bruce Forsberg
Why should I verify it? So you can what until the next release and tell
me to verify it again? If you don't want to this then close this DR. I
for my part will stop writing Drs and will just ignore problems from now
on.

[Bug 923185] [NEW] Can't clear search with Ubuntu Software Center

2012-01-28 Thread Bruce Forsberg
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Went to Games section. Clicked on Arcade.
2. Entered race in search and searched.
3. Selected back arrow to go back to games.
4. Selected Board Games. There are no items found since it does not match race.

The problem is there is no seacrh item race displayed in the seacrh box
and there seems to be no way to reset the search.

[Bug 598752] [NEW] startup sound (the drum) just dissapeared

2010-06-26 Thread Jon Forsberg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Acer Aspire One B250

The startup sound that plays at boot when the login screen appears just
stopped playing a few weeks back. I cant see what I did to make it so
and I cant get it to work again. I havent really changed any sound
related preferences or anything. "Play login sound" (my translation from
swedish) is enabled in the gdm/login screen preferences.

Here is the maybe relevant gconf settings:

 /apps/gdm/simple-greeter:
  disable_user_list = false
  banner_message_enable = false
  disable_restart_buttons = false
  banner_message_text =
  banner_message_text_nochooser =
  recent-layouts = []
  recent-languages = []
  wm_use_compiz = false
  logo_icon_name = computer
  /apps/gdm/simple-greeter/settings-manager-plugins:
   /apps/gdm/simple-greeter/settings-manager-plugins/a11y-keyboard:
priority = 7
active = true
   /apps/gdm/simple-greeter/settings-manager-plugins/xsettings:
priority = 2
active = true
   /apps/gdm/simple-greeter/settings-manager-plugins/media-keys:
priority = 20
active = false
   /apps/gdm/simple-greeter/settings-manager-plugins/background:
priority = 5
active = true
   /apps/gdm/simple-greeter/settings-manager-plugins/sound:
priority = 3
active = true
   /apps/gdm/simple-greeter/settings-manager-plugins/xrandr:
priority = 1
active = true
  /apps/gdm/simple-greeter/accessibility:
   screen_magnifier_enabled = false
   screen_keyboard_enabled = false
   screen_reader_enabled = false

Also, I noticed that /usr/bin/canberra-gtk-play --id="SOMETHING" doesnt
work either, where SOMETHING is for example "system-ready" or "bell" or
"desktop-login" . It looks like its playing a sound but no sound comes
out of the speakers. Dont know if its related.

[Bug 401655] Re: Add udev rules for Huawei E1550 GSM modem

2009-07-21 Thread Erik Forsberg
Just as you say, this rule looks very much like the rule in 61-option-
modem-modeswitch.rules, and removing my
/etc/udev/rules.d/15-huawei-e1551.rules then adding this line to 61
-option-modem-modeswitch.rules:

ATTRS{idVendor}=="12d1", ATTRS{idProduct}=="1446", RUN+="modem-
modeswitch -v 0x%s{idVendor} -p 0x%s{idProduct} -t option-zerocd"

..also makes the modem work as intended (rebooted after udev rulechange
to be sure I got the new rules).

What's odd is that this is a huawei modem, not an option modem, so one
would expect it to work better with usb_modeswitch and it's -H (huawei)
mode - but that's not the case, I've tested that as well.

Hope that gave you the answer to your question?

[Bug 401655] [NEW] Add udev rules for Huawei E1550 GSM modem

2009-07-20 Thread Erik Forsberg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: udev-extras

The Huawei E1550 GSM/UMTS modem requires the following udev rules to
work properly when plugged in:

-- begin /etc/udev/rules.d/etc/15-huawei-e1551.rules --
ACTION!="add", GOTO="huawei_zerocd_end"

SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTR{bDeviceClass}!="ff" ,ENV{DEVTYPE}=="usb_device",
GOTO="huawei_zerocd_disable"
SUBSYSTEM=="scsi", ENV{DEVTYPE}=="scsi_device", GOTO="huawei_zerocd_disable"
GOTO="huawei_zerocd_end"

LABEL="huawei_zerocd_disable"
ATTRS{idVendor}=="12d1", ATTRS{idProduct}=="1446", RUN+="modem-modeswitch -v
0x%s{idVendor} -p 0x%s{idProduct} -t option-zerocd"

LABEL="huawei_zerocd_end"
-- end /etc/udev/rules.d/etc/15-huawei-e1551.rules --

I'm not claiming false credit for this rule, found it on this swedish
ubuntu blog: http://patas-
ubuntu.blogspot.com/2009/07/huawei-e1550-guide-2-comviq-kontant.html

I have however verified that it works on Ubuntu 9.04 with udev-extras as

[Bug 401456] [NEW] APN for Comviq (.se) incorrect

2009-07-19 Thread Erik Forsberg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mobile-broadband-provider-info

Database has one entry for .se named "Tele2/Comviq". It seems this entry
needs to be split into two - one for Tele2, one for Comviq.

With "Comviq Kontant" (prepaid card) mobile broadband, the APN should be
"data.comviq.se", not "internet.tele2.se".

[Bug 231007] [NEW] check_radius command uses wrong syntax

2008-05-16 Thread Erik Forsberg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nagios-plugins

In /etc/nagios-plugins/conf/radius.cfg, a 'check_radius' command is
defined as follows:

# 'check_radius' command definition
define command{
command_namecheck_radius
command_line/usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_radius $ARG1$ $ARG2$
$HOSTADDRESS$ 1812 $ARG3$
}

This doesn't concur with the commandline help of
/usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_radius:

/usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_radius --help
check_radius v1859 (nagios-plugins 1.4.11)
Copyright (c) 1999 Robert August Vincent II
Copyright (c) 2000-2006 Nagios Plugin Development Team

Tests to see if a RADIUS server is accepting connections.

Usage:check_radius -H host -F config_file -u username -p password [-n nas-id]
[-P port]
  [-t timeout] [-r retries] [-e expect]

Options:
 -h, --help
Print detailed help screen
 -V, --version
Print version information
 -H, --hostname=ADDRESS
Host name, IP Address, or unix socket (must be an absolute path)
 -P, --port=INTEGER
Port number (default: 1645)
 -u, --username=STRING
The user to authenticate
 -p, --password=STRING
Password for autentication (SECURITY RISK)
 -n, --nas-id=STRING
NAS identifier
 -F, --filename=STRING
Configuration file
 -e, --expect=STRING
Response string to expect from the server
 -r, --retries=INTEGER
Number of times to retry a failed connection
 -t, --timeout=INTEGER
Seconds before connection times out (default: 10)

I personally use this definition instead:

define command {
command_namecheck_radius
command_line/usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_radius -H $HOSTADDRESS$
-F /etc/radiusclient/radiusclient.conf -u $ARG1$ -p $ARG2$ -t 10

[Bug 231004] [NEW] Path to 'mail' incorrect in /etc/nagios2/commands.cfg

2008-05-16 Thread Erik Forsberg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nagios2

/etc/nagios2/commands.cfg defines several commands used as
service_notification_command and host_notification_command.
Unfortunately, the path to the program used to send mail is wrong - it's
set to /bin/mail, should be /usr/bin/mail, at least with the 'mailx'
program which seems to be the best candidate.

That was new information to me - could you point to a HOWTO or similar?

>This wouldn't meet the needs of arbitrary LDAP clients effecting
password changes,

Indeed. By using smbk5pwd, doing a password change will work using any
LDAP tool, as long as the tool is doing an EXOP for the password change.

[Bug 123044] Re: Firefox calls external helper application without options

2007-07-03 Thread Erik Forsberg
It doesn't happen with galeon (2.0.2-4ubuntu1). I tried konqueror, but
nautilus-cd-burner doesn't appears as a choice, and none of the
available alternatives have an Exec-line (in their .desktop file) where
"%f" should be replace by the filename. Haven't tried epiphany.

The bug can be reproduced on ubuntu just as in the Fedora bug. To make
sure www.cendio.com was not the problem, I also tried downloading a
debian businesscard ISO, getting the same behaviour. So, in detail,
here's another way to reproduce:

1. Start firefox.

2. Visit http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/4.0_r0/i386/iso-cd/

3. Click on debian-40r0-i386-businesscard.iso

4. Select "open with", "nautilus-cd-burner"

5. Click OK.

6. Download file and then notice the error message from nautilus-cd-
burner - "unable to create CD/DVD - no files were selected".

7. In the process list (ps -ef), notice that nautilus-cd-burner is run
without the --source-iso argument. It should get an --source-iso
argument if firefox parsed the .desktop file correctly.

Please note that nautilus-cd-burner is just an example application used
to trigger the behaviour. Any helper application that requires an option
to accept a filename will fail with firefox.

[Bug 123044] Firefox calls external helper application without options

2007-06-29 Thread Erik Forsberg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

When firefox version 2.0.0.4+1-0ubuntu1 uses a helper application to
open a file it doesn't honor the command line options specified in the
helper applications .desktop file.

For example, after installing nautilus-cd-burner, which installs a
.desktop-file with the following lines:

MimeType=application/x-cd-image;
Exec=nautilus-cd-burner --source-iso=%f

..then trying to open a .iso file from the web with nautilus-cd-burner,
nautilus-cd-burner is called with the filename as first argument, not
with --source-iso . This is repeatable every time. However,
after downloading, the file can be opened correctly by clicking the
'open' link in the download manager window.

The same problem has been observed in the firefoxes in Fedora Core 6 and
7: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=246089

[Bug 39941] Re: Mouse on laptop flaky

2007-04-10 Thread Erik Forsberg
I'm still experiencing this bug on a Dell D610 running 7.04 beta. I
think either hibernation or suspend to disk (or both, I'll have to check
that when I get access to the hardware) triggers the problem.

One way to get the trackpoint working again is to boot Windows XP and
then reboot - the XP driver seems to reset whatever register is
incorrectly set.

[Bug 102350] Re: "Rendezvous with udev timed out for lvm2|main_vg|swap'; stat failed: No such file or directory

2007-04-04 Thread Erik Forsberg

I can confirm that the problem is gone after an upgrade from
archive.ubuntu.com made an hour or so ago.

Thankyou!

[Bug 102350] Re: "Rendezvous with udev timed out for lvm2|main_vg|swap'; stat failed: No such file or directory

2007-04-03 Thread Erik Forsberg
Further details: After timing out as described in the initial comment,
it continues with

* Starting eary crypt disks...
...done
* Setting up LVM Volume Groups

After that, the bootup sequence seems to continue normally.

To summarize: It first pauses for a very long time after "Assembling MD
array mdarrays", with "Rendezvous..." messages. Then it pauses for
another very long time after "Setting up LVM Volume Groups..."

2007-04-03 Thread Erik Forsberg
I can confirm this problem on a Dell laptop. Running a KDE session and
pressing the power button, absolutely nothing happens. /var/log/acpid
says it's running powerbtn.sh, with no output.

evms 2.5.5-18ubuntu2 is installed. I've never used any evms commands,
though

If you have any other information you need, don't hesitate to ask. I'm
not afraid to do things like modifying initrd images, kernel parameters,
etc.

away for a while, and now it's up), and is fully functional with all LVM

[Bug 78282] Re: vnc4server does not start Desktop environment after security update

2007-03-29 Thread Chuck Forsberg
Was able to get tightvncserver working with fluxbox on Feisty. When I
tried to use gnome I got a desktop allright, but the keys in the
keyboard were mixed up.

Would be nice to get gnome to work with the latest and fastest VNC.
Vino works but doesn't count because it must be manually started.

'/etc/init.d/nscd restart' were run as part of the installation/upgrade
process, causing the installation/upgrade to fail with error status.

[Bug 50551] Alien can't install i386 rpm packages on amd64

2006-06-21 Thread forsberg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: alien

Trying to install an rpm for i386 on an amd64 ubuntu, I get the
following error:

dpkg-gencontrol: error: current build architecture amd64 does not appear
in package's list (i386)

Since the ia32-libs are installed, the application will run just fine
once it's installed. I think this is true for most i386 rpm packages
that one might want to install on the amd64 architecture.

A command line parameter for changing the architecture of the resulting
.deb would be very useful for this case.
