[Bug 199486] Re: ConsoleKit integration
As part of this fix, ck-launch-session needs to be back ported from 0.2.10 to the current Hardy version 0.2.3. I have attached a debdiff patch for this. The second part of this is to modify the ume-gui-start file to launch with ck-launch-session. ** Attachment added: "ck-launch-session back port" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/12618489/ck-launch-session-backport.patch -- ConsoleKit integration https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/199486 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 162601] single completion possibility not recognised
Public bug reported: Using Gutsy Gibbon, all updates upto 2007-11-14 applied. Problem is that the completion doesn't recognise files which just appeared while you are using the completion. To verify, open two terminals and go to an empty folder (the same empty folder for both terminals). In terminal one, type "less xyz", but don't hit TAB yet. Go to terminal two, type "touch xyzfoo", press ENTER. Go to window one, hit TAB and the command line is completed to "less xyzfoo ". This is OK. The problem is this: In terminal one, type "less abc" and hit the TAB key (this is the difference!). Since no completion is available, nothing happens. Now go to terminal two and type "touch abcfoo", press ENTER. Go to terminal one and hit TAB again. It now doesn't complete the current command line, instead it offers a list of possible completions which has only one entry. This is IMHO not consistent. The completion works again as soon as you modified the command line. Type BACKSPACE and "c", so the line looks again like "less abc", then hit the TAB key. Now the completion picks up the file and the line reads "less abcfoo " as it should. ** Affects: bash (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- single completion possibility not recognised https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/162601 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I wasn't talking about the preview, I was talking about the index. And depending on how you use the program, the same feature/result uses either ~60s of CPU time or less than 1s. This IMHO clearly shows that the CPU time in the inefficient code path is wasted on something which has no use and is not required to show the index. If you need more information (or want me to try to explain it in a different way, in case you think this might help), let me know. [Bug 88553] huge inefficiency when side pane is initially visible
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evince How to reproduce: Open a small PDF with Evince. Activate the side pane (F9), set it to show the index. Close Evince. Now open a large PDF, e.g. the PostgreSQL documentation (~14MB, ~1700 pages). What happens is: It shows the side pane immediately on startup, showing "Loading..." for ~60s with 100% CPU load. After "Loading..." was replaced by the real index, close the side pane (F9), then close Evince. Reopen the PDF. Now it doesn't take up much CPU and only a second after the window was opened, you can press F9 to view the side pane / index. The ~60s of 100% CPU load are not required, they only occur if the side pane is initially visible. OOPS! After I mailed the last message, (I was dooing some checking while I was writing it) ... the sound started going on and off every few seconds, as if something was overloading, shutting down and starting up agian. I rebooted. NO sound. I then did ps aux and killed an entry for sound: /usr/bin/esd -terminate -nobeeps -as 1 -spawnfd 16. I got my sound back on the headphones. I hope this helps. Re: [Bug 69792] Re: no sound in any device
After muting headphone and line jack sense, I get sound from the speakers, but not from the headset. Testing in sound Preferences gives the following results: In 'sound Events' and 'Music and Movies' everythin works except Intel 82801DB-ICH4 where I get a test window but no sound; and ESD where I get the message: "audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink profile=music: Could not establish connection to sound server" In 'Audio Conferencing / Sound Playback' I get same as above, except "audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink profile=chat: Could not establish connection to sound server" with ESD. In 'Audio Conferencing / Sound Capture' Things generally don't work, with "failed to construct pipeline" or could lnot open for writing. OSS freezes. Test sound works. The silence test also - I don't hear anything! lspci -nv output: 00:00.0 0600: 8086:2560 (rev 01) Subsystem: 1028:0160 Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0 Memory at f000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=128M] Capabilities: 00:02.0 0300: 8086:2562 (rev 01) Subsystem: 1028:0160 Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 177 Memory at e800 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=128M] Memory at feb8 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=512K] Capabilities: 00:1d.0 0c03: 8086:24c2 (rev 01) Subsystem: 1028:0160 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 177 I/O ports at ff80 [size=32] 00:1d.1 0c03: 8086:24c4 (rev 01) Subsystem: 1028:0160 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 185 I/O ports at ff60 [size=32] 00:1d.2 0c03: 8086:24c7 (rev 01) Subsystem: 1028:0160 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 169 I/O ports at ff40 [size=32] 00:1d.7 0c03: 8086:24cd (rev 01) (prog-if 20) Subsystem: 1028:0160 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 193 Memory at ffa80800 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=1K] Capabilities: 00:1e.0 0604: 8086:244e (rev 81) Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0 Bus: primary=00, secondary=01, subordinate=01, sec-latency=32 I/O behind bridge: d000-dfff Memory behind bridge: fe90-feaf Prefetchable memory behind bridge: 2000-200f 00:1f.0 0601: 8086:24c0 (rev 01) Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0 00:1f.1 0101: 8086:24cb (rev 01) (prog-if 8a) Subsystem: 1028:0160 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 169 I/O ports at I/O ports at I/O ports at I/O ports at I/O ports at ffa0 [size=16] Memory at feb7fc00 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=1K] 00:1f.3 0c05: 8086:24c3 (rev 01) Subsystem: 1028:0160 Flags: medium devsel, IRQ 3 I/O ports at eda0 [size=32] 00:1f.5 0401: 8086:24c5 (rev 01) Subsystem: 1028:0160 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 201 I/O ports at ee00 [size=256] I/O ports at edc0 [size=64] Memory at feb7fa00 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=512] Memory at feb7f900 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=256] Capabilities: 01:05.0 0780: 14f1:2702 (rev 01) Subsystem: 1028:8d88 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 3 Memory at fe9f (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K] I/O ports at dff8 [size=8] Capabilities: 01:09.0 0200: 14e4:4401 (rev 01) Subsystem: 1028:8127 Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 64, IRQ 201 Memory at fe9ee000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=8K] Expansion ROM at 2000 [disabled] [size=16K] Capabilities: Thanks for the progress so far. Re: [Bug 69792] Re: no sound in any device
All switches - loudspeakers and mike on headset - are on. All volume controls are all the way up. Note: Worked on Breezy, before I had the headset. Re: [Bug 69792] Re: no sound in any device
aplay gives: "Playing WAVE '/usr/share/sounds/startup.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 44100 Hz, Stereo" but no sound. Just hangs there. I know sound works on this system, I had it on breezy, but I didn't have the headset then. I will re-install ubuntu sounds. lspci output attached. [Bug 69792] no sound in any device
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubuntu-sounds No sound with intel 82801db-ICH4 or Plantronics headset. Both devices are detected. In the Sound Preferences window I get the following results with the test button: With Autodetect, Intel 82801DB-ICH$-IEC958 and ESD I get a test window but no sound. With USB Audio, Intel 82801DB-ICH4, ALSA and OSS, I get: audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink: Resource busy or not available. Equipment is Dell Dimension 2400, both alsa and oss installed. ** Affects: ubuntu-sounds (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- no sound in any device https://launchpad.net/bugs/69792 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
