[Bug 1764778] Re: Problems with SSSD + pam mount

2018-04-20 Thread Paul-Georg Majev
As we are not understanding the problem ourselves, we are not in the
position to pinpoint which package is responsible for the problem. SSSD
and pam mount are just the main two packages installed by us for our
domain setup. Thats why I included both of them in the bug report. There
are no problems with reading or writing files such as text files in
folders that are mounted by pam_mount. But if I am not mistaken, the
settings described as not working above are also saved in the users home
directory?

The output of sudo mount -t cifs

//server.domain/home/testuser on /home/testuser type cifs
(rw,relatime,vers=default,cache=strict,username=testuser,domain=DOMAIN,uid=826404655,forceuid,gid=826400513,forcegid,addr=XX.XX.XX.X,file_mode=0755,dir_mode=0700,soft,nounix,serverino,mapposix,rsize=1048576,wsize=1048576,echo_interval=60,actimeo=1)

[Bug 1764778] [NEW] Problems with SSSD + pam mount

2018-04-17 Thread Paul-Georg Majev
Public bug reported:

In our IT-Department we are preparing ourselves for Ubuntu 18.04.
While doing so, we discovered, that Domain Users loging into Ubuntu with their
home Directories mounted through pam-mount can not modify the icons in the
Sidebar and are also unable to activate certain settings. What we discovered so
far is:

1. They can not change their Keyboard Layout.
2. They can not apply "show hidden files" in nautilus.
3. They can not change the icons in the sidebar (as mentioned)

What could be the Problem here and how should we go about solving it?

How to reproduce it:
1. Join Client to domain via net ads join -U administrator
2. Restart SSSD Daemon
3. Configure pam_mount.conf.xml as such:

4. Restart
5. Log in with a domain user
Everything seems to work, all files appear in the home directory, but the
problems above occur.
Doing the exact same thing in Ubuntu 16.04 works.

[Bug 1333795] Re: [calculator] Doesn't parse decimal point

2018-02-12 Thread Georg Lipps
Will the scopes be used in LTS 18.04. If yes, this problem should be solved, as
a correct calculator in the HUD is very convenient ...
My suggestions use . and , as decimal point regardless of localization.

[Bug 1731341] Re: Fujifilm X-T10 regression on 17.10: "Unable to fetch previews from the camera: Unspecified error (-1)"

2017-11-10 Thread Jens Georg
Hi,

please try to log out of your desktop environment and call gphoto2 -T.
If that also fails, there is a regression with gphoto2. A similar issue
was also reported on Fedora upstream.

[Bug 1695914] Re: digikam editor menu bar disappears on second startup

2017-09-05 Thread Georg Lipps
I also have the problem with loosing the image editor menu bar when
opening a second time. Problem is seen with 5.5. and appimage 5.6.

Workaround (inconvenient): Go to right border and select extra in order
to access to tools.

Restarting digikam also helps ;)

[Bug 1713096] [NEW] System Does not Boot After Upgrade

2017-08-25 Thread David Georg Reichelt
Public bug reported:

I upgraded my ubuntu 17.04 on 23 of August to the newest version of

It seems like I experienced a similiar error with Ubuntu 17.04 (with i5

everything just worked fine again.

[Bug 1603659] Re: Power Management: USB mouse and keyboard laggy and loosing events

2017-07-28 Thread Hans-Georg Beyer
Hi,

I just changed from Ubuntu 14.04 (flawlessly working) to 16.04 and
experienced a similar behavior of my Logitech, Inc. Cordless Mouse:
after a few seconds of inactivity, the mouse exhibits a lagging
behavior. Interestingly, using a USB cord connected mouse does not
show this behavior.

I searched the WWW and tried all proposed actions without
success. However, I have not found THIS bug report. Finally, as a
last random resort, I decided to fully disable the laptop mode
ENABLE_LAPTOP_MODE_TOOLS=0 in /etc/laptop-mode/laptop-mode.conf
and the problem disappeared.

After that finding I searched the web regarding bugs in laptop mode
and found this entry.

A few information:
lsusb yields (only the interesting line displayed here):

Bus 003 Device 002: ID 046d:c501 Logitech, Inc. Cordless Mouse Receiver

Relevant output of usb-devices:

T:  Bus=03 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=02 Cnt=01 Dev#=  2 Spd=1.5 MxCh= 0
D:  Ver= 1.10 Cls=00(>ifc ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS= 8 #Cfgs=  1
P:  Vendor=046d ProdID=c501 Rev=09.10
S:  Manufacturer=Logitech
S:  Product=USB Receiver
C:  #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=a0 MxPwr=50mA
I:  If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 1 Cls=03(HID  ) Sub=01 Prot=02 Driver=usbhid

I did not find any error or warning messages in the log files.

So this is definitely a bug in or wrong parametrization of the
laptop-mode tools or the programs invoked by laptop-mode.

It would be good if this could be corrected in one of the next
updates given the fact that this bug persists now for more than
a year.

Thanks and best wishes,
Hans-Georg

[Bug 1586528] Re: Avahi-daemon withdraws address record

2017-07-23 Thread Georg Acher
Same here with 16.04.2 (4.8.0-58-generic x86_64, no VM) and Realtek8111
(PCI 10ec:8168 rev 06). Worked before with 12.04, now it's shutting down
the interface every few days.

Regarding the Networkmanager restart: Not for me, the PID is still the
same.

Maybe the timing from the latest event may help:

Jul 23 13:51:19 braindead5 dhclient[26468]: DHCPREQUEST of 192.168.0.5 on
enp8s0 to 192.168.0.1 port 67 (xid=0x75dc0193)
Jul 23 13:51:19 braindead5 dhclient[26468]: DHCPACK of 192.168.0.5 from
192.168.0.1
Jul 23 13:51:19 braindead5 dhclient[26468]: bound to 192.168.0.5 -- renewal in
17447 seconds.

So the IP is valid for more than 4h. But about an hour later:

Jul 23 14:57:51 braindead5 avahi-daemon[907]: Withdrawing address record for
192.168.0.5 on enp8s0.
Jul 23 14:57:51 braindead5 avahi-daemon[907]: Leaving mDNS multicast group on
interface enp8s0.IPv4 with address 192.168.0.5.
Jul 23 14:57:51 braindead5 avahi-daemon[907]: Interface enp8s0.IPv4 no longer
relevant for mDNS.
Jul 23 14:57:51 braindead5 org.kde.kdeconnect[1675]: "No such interface
'org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties' on object at path /"
Jul 23 14:57:56 braindead5 kernel: [1879701.611525] nfs: server 192.168.0.1 not
responding, timed out

The interface was shut down (no IP, only visible with ifconfig -a), but
it had link state (green LED). There were no other messages regarding
Networkmanager etc. at that time.

It's hard to tell if the NFS problems are caused by the avahi-stuff or
both share the same root cause. In my experience, NFS usually "finds"
missing connectivity very fast, so it should complain before avahi...
Also on all other occurences the avahi message was before NFS.

I've now stopped the avahi-daemon. If it happens again, I will look if
dhclient runs and if there are increasing RX packets and visible
broadcast data from other hosts at the dead interface.

[Bug 1539209] Re: pulseaudio crashed with SIGABRT in pa_alsa_path_set_volume()

2017-04-28 Thread Georg Chini
I probably figured out the reason for the crashes. Can someone please test
this patch: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/153418/ Patch is against
current git but should apply well to older PA versions.

Mauricio: It would be nice if you could test it - your logs showed where the
problem was. Somehow module-device-restore sets your headset mic volume to
insanely high values (around +170 dB). You will have to correct that as well
if it does not crash anymore. (Please don't try to correct it before testing
the patch, the bug is only exposed when a high volume is set)

[Bug 1672698] Re: Broken/Missing font rendering in firefox

2017-04-17 Thread Georg Jung
Hey folks,

had the same issue. fonts-roboto-hinted was already installed. I tried
adding fonts-roboto (didn't solve it) and then fonts-roboto-fontface and
fonts-roboto-unhinted. That did the trick. My guess is it's fonts-
roboto-fontface, but I did not check that. Problem solved.

Thanks so much for all your prior work and the hint that it might be
roboto. I checked with the site source (view-
source:https://www.youtube.com/) and it clearly points to Roboto too.

Thanks again.

Sorry, I should add: Other places suggest that you should disallow site-
specific fonts in your preferences (preferences -> content -> advanced).
That solves the issue too, but I'd find that solution unsatisfactory.

[Bug 1314904] Re: Remote publishing does not work in Unity on trusty/utopic

2017-03-15 Thread Jens Georg
You are trying to create a new album. this is not supported anymore.
Recent versions of Shotwell (0.25.90) don't offer the option anymore.

If you want to create a new album, you have to do it in the Google
Photos web application first, then it appears in Shotwell

But this is not related to the original bug

Was there a prior kernel version where you were not having this
particular problem?

I upgraded from 14.04. There was no problem

Joseph wrote: Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream

Yes, I tested it. There was the same problem. Then I found that my
/proc/cpuinfo missed the pae flag. I cleared the apt database and got a
clean update. After that my /proc/cpuinfo missed the flag again.

After any update with the Ubuntu update assistant the flag is missed
again. Now I changed the /etc/default/grub, added forcepae --forcepae to
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="forcepae --forcepae", update grub and
everything is fine. I am waiting for the next kernel update now.

For the moment, the problem seams fixed.

Please mark this problem as solved - I don't know how to do that.

[Bug 1380702] Re: No keyboards shortcuts in QT apps

2016-11-25 Thread David Georg Reichelt
This still happens to me when I use texmaker in Ubuntu 16.10. appmenu-
qt5 is not installed and changing

/usr/share/applications/texmaker.desktop

(by inserting Exec=env UBUNTU_MENUPROXY= texmaker %F instead of the
original Exec) did not change anything either. Installing appmenu-qt5 is
not working, too. Are there any known workarounds?

[Bug 1604657] Re: [Regression] Unity shows blank desktop with software renderer

2016-07-30 Thread georg
I can confirm the issue, same happens here:

* Ubuntu 16.04 64 Bit running in a VirtualBox under Windows 7
* after upgrade of libunity-core the launcher and panels are missing
* the unity daemons are running
* it isn't related to any user settings, I also reproduced it with a new user
and empty home directory
* starting ``unity -v`` brings back the panel and launcher temporarily

These are the packages after which installation things broke (apt
history log):

[Bug 1576060] Re: Gnome Schedule in Ubuntu 16.04?

2016-07-13 Thread Georg Lipps
Hi Robert,

I do not know how to make correct deb files. Here my recipe to install
from source avoiding command line as much as possible and having the
option to revert unwanted changes via synaptic.

Using synaptic (or comparable software) install:

python-gtk2-dev
python-gconf
at
gnome-doc-utils
scrollkeeper

This will install additional libs you need later (that is were I failed
in my first attempt).

Download the gnome-schedule-2.3.0.tar.gz from
https://sourceforge.net/projects/gnome-schedule/

Extract the file in your home directory under a new directory e.g

~/src/gnome-schedule-2.3.0/

Go into this directory - you can operate without sudo (changes are only
done in this directory):

Tried to install gnome-schedule 2.3.0 from source and ran into many

Expected behaviour:

Linux shall display modified file timestamp without this one hour gap.

I also tried to mount with the option tz=UCT and time_offset=60. No
change in behavior.

The same test were repeated for a FAT formatted SD card.

In this case two hour difference (probably somewhat correct reflecting
+2:00 between UTC and local time). Mounting the fat with tz=UTC ==> no
change, Mounting with time_offset=120 allevialtes the difference.

Exfat is the more advanced file system. The current implementation either does
not correct for timezone or for daylight saving. It should respect both.

[Bug 1576060] Re: Gnome Schedule in Ubuntu 16.04?

2016-06-12 Thread Georg Lipps
Tried to install gnome-schedule 2.3.0 from source and ran into many
dependencies problems; gave it up. Is this something for an experienced
user to set this up with the new snappy format?

Used and liked gnome-schedule a lot - sad it is not available any more.

[Bug 1582206] [NEW] Chromium 48 in precise

2016-05-16 Thread Georg Depta
Public bug reported:

Hello,
Added "stage for security updates" Chromium browser package ppa to my software
sources in Precise and installed version 48.0.2564.109-0ubuntu0.12.04.1.987
from it. Because it did not start from the dash, I used the terminal, and it
could not find the correct version of libstdc++. But I could 'locate' this and
other libs in a "platform_specific" folder placed in .config/chromium... How
could I tell chromium 48 to use these libs provided?
Thanks in advance for fixing it or help,
Yours
Georg

Nothing harmful happened, this does not seem a very serious bug to me.
Apparently, the selection popup is just not completetly foolproof.
Thanks anyway.

Apparently it is generated. I don't know how exactly, but a naive

$ git clone https://github.com/PySide/Shiboken
$ cd Shiboken; mkdir build; cd build
$ cmake ..; make

leaves me with a "shiboken.so" under "build/shibokenmodule".

[Bug 1507128] [NEW] kubuntu-driver-manager: black screen after boot

2015-10-17 Thread Georg Grabler
Public bug reported:

Well, that's an issue since the existence of the driver manager,
basically, but it's time to open a bug report since I work around it for
years now after every fresh install. It's very well documented in the
archlinux wiki.

I don't understand the kcm plugin layout and how to debug it properly,
but I may look into it anyway, but for people familiar with it it
shouldn't be hard to fix.

Bug Description:
If there is an intel card installed (on board), and you have a seperate NVidia
card by installing a proprietary driver, booting the kernel will result in:
- The kernel loading modeset due to the intel driver supporting it
- The NVidia card/driver not supporting it, resulting in a black screen. No,
you never ever get out of the black screen.

Therefore, the option "nomodeset" for the kernel needs to be set
(/etc/default/grub => GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="nomodeset quiet
splash"), and update-grub2 needs to be run.

I know this results in an uglier boot mode, but due to NVidia not
supporting modeset, there is no option if the proprietary driver is
installed than to choose this option! Otherwhise, users end up with a
disfunctional system.

100 % reproducable on 3 PCs I have.

[Bug 1479093] Re: Segfault in ld-2.19.so while starting Steam after upgrade to 3.13.0-59.98

2015-07-29 Thread georg
I can confirm segfaults after updating the kernel to 3.13.0-59 on
various 64 Bit machines. Its related to shelling out commands from 32
bit executables. In my case its a proprietary program, but its
reproducible with the following steps:

$ apt-get install gcc-multilib
$ cat test.c
#include stdlib.h
int main()
{
system(/bin/echo Hello World);
}
$ gcc -m64 test.c
Hello World
$ gcc -m32 test.c
$ ./a.out # Program is crashing here
$ dmesg|tail -n 1

Same problem still exists on Asus UX305 with Ubuntu 15.04

sudo dmidecode -s bios-version
UX305FA.206

uname -a
Linux zenbook 3.19.0-23-generic

Adding the acpi_osi bootoption does the same as in #32

[Bug 1458365] [NEW] incorrect decimal separator in German install

2015-05-24 Thread Georg Schwarz
Public bug reported:

With the ubuntu-15.04-desktop-amd64 install (and most likely all others, too),
when having selected German as the language, the system states that a hard disk
of at least 6.6 GB is required. However, in German the decimal separator is
not a point but a comma, so it should be 6,6 GB. Please note that the same is
true for certain other languages such as e.g. French (I didn't check whether
the same issue comes up when selecting French as the install language).

[Bug 1455914] [NEW] usb ports dies under certain known circumstances

2015-05-17 Thread Jan Georg Forsdahl
Public bug reported:

I bougth a brand new Lenovo Z710 for my mother in law who is near 80. In stead
of trying to teach her win8, I installed Ubuntu desktop 14.04 on it, without
even bothering to go through the win8 installation. Apart from ubuntu standard
software I've installed teamviewer (she lives 100km away), wine (there are some
win programs she wants), a danish-english dictionary (under wine) and
photofiltre 7 (under wine).
It works like a charm right out of the box - except, if I boot or resume it
with anything in the external usb ports, the external usb ports dies (not shure
about the internal ones) ubuntu acts normal except the external usb ports -
power is there but nothing gets detected. However if I boot it up without
anything plugged in, I can later plug in an external mouse and hd's without any
problems.
I've googled and search everywhere without finding anything useful, I've tried
an other kernel, I've switch form UEFI boot to legacy boot and back, I've
tested the usb 2 and the usb 3 ports, I've reinstalled and I've of course tried
an other mouse and other usb hardware - everything without getting any wiser.
The only thing I've not done is to install win8.
From what I can see in dmesg (I'm far from an expert) the usb behaves normally
untill right before the end of the boot process, the mouse are detected and
installed but doesn't work and lsusb shows no devices at all.

I've attached dumps of lsusb and dmesg in working and non-working state
plus some additional information and really hope someone at launchpad
can help out.

Thanks in advance
