[Bug 1065942] [NEW] playing audio prevent cpu from entering c states
Public bug reported: Hello, i am running kubuntu 12.04 LTS on an thinkpad x201 with i5-540m cpu. Kernel is 3.2.0-31. When playing audio, powertop reports, that the cpu is not entering c states correctly (Package c3 (pc3) and c6 (pc6) states at 0.0 % all the time). without audio both states are used. So, When playing audio, the power consumption rises from 8 to 14 watts, resulting in higher cpu temperatures, higher coller rpm and significantly shorter running time. The problem occurs with any audio application. It doesnt matter if the laptop is plugged into an external amplifier or uses internal speakers and the problem stays, when running on AC. The same Problem also occurs on other linux distros. With windows 7 the power consumption resulting from playing audio is significantly lower at ~1-2 watt. I don't know if this only happens on thinkpad x201. a fix would be really great, since battery running time could be much better. [Bug 869684] Re: 530 login incorrect error after upgrade
Hello All, as stated in bug #992578 I continue here to add my findings. Uncommenting the line #authrequiredpam_shells.so in the file /etc/pam.d/vsftpd just made the error message lines in /var/log/auth.log disappear: vsftpd: PAM unable to dlopen(pam_shells.so): /lib/security/pam_shells.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory vsftpd: PAM adding faulty module: pam_shells.so but a local user could not login. Also just installing vsftpd again like # apt-get remove vsftpd # rm /etc/pam.d/vsftpd # apt-get install vsftpd did NOT work. On my fresh installation the state of the pam_shells.so is as follows: /lib/security/pam_shells.so does not exist /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/security/pam_shells.so does exist Only removing (i.e. renaming) /etc/pam.d/vsftpd worked for me, too (as mentioned in bug #992578) The contents of the log files were: root@develop:/etc/pam.d# tail /var/log/auth.log Jul 22 00:50:12 develop useradd[5560]: new user: name=ftp, UID=108, GID=117, home=/srv/ftp, shell=/bin/false Jul 22 00:50:12 develop usermod[5565]: change user 'ftp' password Jul 22 00:50:13 develop chage[5570]: changed password expiry for ftp Jul 22 00:50:13 develop chfn[5573]: changed user 'ftp' information Jul 22 00:51:07 develop vsftpd: PAM unable to dlopen(pam_shells.so): /lib/security/pam_shells.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Jul 22 00:51:07 develop vsftpd: PAM adding faulty module: pam_shells.so Jul 22 00:51:07 develop vsftpd: pam_unix(vsftpd:auth): check pass; user unknown Jul 22 00:51:07 develop vsftpd: pam_unix(vsftpd:auth): authentication failure; logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty=ftp ruser=amueckl rhost=127.0.0.1 Jul 22 00:51:07 develop vsftpd: pam_winbind(vsftpd:auth): getting password (0x0388) Jul 22 00:51:07 develop vsftpd: pam_winbind(vsftpd:auth): pam_get_item returned a password root@develop:/etc/pam.d# tail /var/log/vsftpd.log Sun Jul 22 00:09:57 2012 [pid 2] CONNECT: Client "127.0.0.1" Sun Jul 22 00:10:04 2012 [pid 1] [amueckl] FAIL LOGIN: Client "127.0.0.1" Sun Jul 22 00:15:50 2012 [pid 2] CONNECT: Client "127.0.0.1" Sun Jul 22 00:15:57 2012 [pid 1] [amueckl] FAIL LOGIN: Client "127.0.0.1" Sun Jul 22 00:36:22 2012 [pid 2] CONNECT: Client "127.0.0.1" Sun Jul 22 00:36:27 2012 [pid 1] [amueckl] FAIL LOGIN: Client "127.0.0.1" Sun Jul 22 00:51:03 2012 [pid 2] CONNECT: Client "127.0.0.1" Sun Jul 22 00:51:10 2012 [pid 1] [amueckl] FAIL LOGIN: Client "127.0.0.1" Sun Jul 22 01:01:55 2012 [pid 2] CONNECT: Client "127.0.0.1" Sun Jul 22 01:02:00 2012 [pid 1] [amueckl] OK LOGIN: Client "127.0.0.1" Note: - At around 00:50:12 I installed vsftpd (again) and then tried to login as a local user -> 530 Login incorrect. - At around 01:00:00 I renamed the file /etc/pam.d/vsftpd to vsftpd_invisible and tried again to login a local user -> 230 Login successful, but pam is not used anymore! root@develop:/etc/pam.d# ftp localhost Connected to localhost. 220 (vsFTPd 2.3.5) Name (localhost:amueckl): amueckl 331 Please specify the password. Re: [Bug 927282] Re: Java crash with icedtea plugin and Firefox 10+
Hey Micah Gersten Thank you for the mails you have sent me. I can tell that as of today, July 14. I again tried FireFox and Iced Tea worked like it used to and I used my homebanking system and it all vent well. I have not done any thing special since I earlier this spring tried to update Iced Tea which did not work. I think a new version must be put in the common update system. At least now it works perfectly, on one of my to Linux mashines. Later I will try the other, and if it runs perfectly I will not do anything more about it. If, however it does not work I will get back to launchpad. No, there are no results relating /data. I would have wondered about it, because I already configured apparmor to allow access to /data. [Bug 1018530] [NEW] No write access in a 9p/virtfs shared folder
Public bug reported: Ubuntu version: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Kernel: 3.2.0-25-generic Version of qemu-kvm: 1.0+noroms-0ubuntu13 I have created an shared folder for an virtual machine which is managed by libvirt. I mounted it in the virtual machine with this command: mount -t 9p -o trans=virtio,version=9p2000.L data /data The filesystem permissions of all files an folders in the shared folder are set to 777. I expected that I have the full permissions also in the virtual machine. Regardless of the permissions on the filesystem I cannot write or create files and folders in the virtual machine. The original filesystem (/storage) is XFS. In another shared folder (similar config in libvirt) which is originally NTFS I have no problems. [Bug 794474] Re: latitude e6420 screen flickering (sandy bridge intel video card)
For your information: This bug exists obviously on more machines than one, but not on all Dell Latitude e6420 machines, but on some others. I guess it has something to do with the video card installed, anyway, I already filed a bug report back in 3/2011. Upstream bug: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=35812 I'm currently on trying to reproduce the error for Daniel Vetter on 3.5-rc4. If it is still reproducable, we will try to track down this bug. Background: In times pre-3.2, this happened during KMS. It did not happen with kernel 3.2.8 (no clue why!). I am not sure about 3.3, since I never used 3.3 (did stay with 3.2.8 - it worked). Since 3.4 it happens (for me) only on X login, not at KMS stage! What KMS and the X-Login (on KDE) have in common? A resolution change. KMS changes the screen resolution, KDM is displayed afterwrads (in a wrong resolution), and after login it does set the resolution to the chosen one, where I personally get stripes today. I am not using ubuntu but chakra, so this is definitely no ubuntu issue, but an upstream one. I tried that with arch and fedora as well - same results. The situation has gotten better, but it seems the bug we formerly had in the KMS is now in the X11 resolution change. Even though, I could not reproduce it (yet) changing resolution after I logged in successfully. @Screen Flickering: This is NOT an issue, the screen won't break! I have had it running having the stripes for a day(!), and ye, it did flicker a lot afterwards. If you leave your laptop alone, shut down, it will not flicker after a few hours of resting. Since this bug got more attention now again by the intel guys (always very helpful and nice I gotta' say), I hope we can track it down for future kernel versions. Hope this helps to accept the bug report and get it to [upstream]. Maybe some others are willing to help as well. ** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #35812 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=35812 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/794474 Title: latitude e6420 screen flickering (sandy bridge intel video card) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/794474/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 82853] Re: Add support for the smbk5pwd overlay
The funny thing is that, far as I can tell, heimdal-dev already is a build-dependency in the precise version of the package. The only thing that needs to be done is to reenable the generation of the slapd-smbk5pwd package. The patch in #21 does just that. It also adds the heimdal-fix patch from the debian repositories. [Bug 997978] Re: KVM images lose connectivity with bridged network
@serge, thanks for your input. here Dom0 ifconfig, with 2 machines running. i setup br0 myself because the machines are running at hetzner, with special addon IP's so the vm's can be reached from the outside. [Bug 82853] Re: Add support for the smbk5pwd overlay
Attached you will find a patch that builds the smbk5pwd overlay. The patch was done against the openldap 2.4.28-1.1ubuntu4 package. I basically copied over the missing parts from the debian version of the package. In my opinion the point raised by Mathias Gug is moot. If people want to use heimdal in combination with smbk5pwd, they should be able to do so. Especially since there are no downsides to including the smbk5pwd overlay in the package. As long as this patch not accepted feel free to use the openldap package from my PPA (https://launchpad.net/~georg-rath/+archive/ppa-mrce). I will try to keep up with the official Ubuntu releases. ** Patch added: "Build the smbk5pwd overlay in the precise package." https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openldap/+bug/82853/+attachment/3148153/+files/openldap_smbk5pwd_precise.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/82853 Title: Add support for the smbk5pwd overlay To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openldap/+bug/82853/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 960214] Re: Encodebin transcoding from MKV to MPEG2 fails
Actually the issue is the transcoding to mpeg. The reason seems that in contrast to upstream, the mpeg2enc plugin and the ffenc_mpeg2video habe the same rank secondary; encodebin seems to select the mpeg2enc plugin then which causes the issue. Moving /usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstmpeg2enc.so out of the way makes transcoding work again. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/960214 Title: Encodebin transcoding from MKV to MPEG2 fails To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gstreamer0.10/+bug/960214/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 889527] Re: [WARNING: at /build/buildd/linux-3.0.0/net/sched/sch_generic.c:255 dev_watchdog] wired network connection problem since last update
Short: Problem has gone away/disappeared. Long: This Problem did not appear on Windows, but also reproducible on Ubuntu 11.10 Live-CD (so the Linux-update could not have been responsible for this malfunction). But on the same night, when Linux update was, there was also a Windows 7 update. Some other websites with similar problems suggested disabling wake-on-lan, wake-on-key, but there was no setting in BIOS to activate/deactivate such feature (and network-boot was also disabled). But I disabled the VT-setting in BIOS (because BIOS-help said, Vanderpool Technology should be only enabled if required). After saving and rebooting, the problem was gone away on Live-CD and on Ubuntu-Installation. After reenabling VT-setting in BIOS, saving and rebooting, the network-card is still working. Maybe Windows-Update changed some system-BIOS-settings or networkcard-BIOS/firmware-settings which get lost after saving BIOS settings. [Bug 889527] [NEW] wired network connection problem since last update
Public bug reported: wired network gets disconnected/timesout/packetloss after a few minutes. I can trigger it mostly, when doing "ping www.google.at" and openen "http://www.hans-georg-zojer.at"; (or other websites) in firefox. Or when loading severel websites at the same time. Or when connecting to FTP- Server with Nautilus and surfing with firefox. Problem was first detected during the night of 2011-11-11 to 2011-11-12. It seems to arise from update at night of 2011-11-11 to 2011-11-12. (Or correlated with stability problems with VirtualBox. [Bug 838161] Re: guided partitoning for entire disk creates empty partitions
No worries. I tried with the image http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu /daily-live/current/oneiric-desktop-i386.iso synchronized with zsync Tue Oct 4 20:40:01 CST 2011 To be sure, I also create a completely new disk for this test. Interestingly, the installer crashed when it was almost done, but I have not had any opportunity to investigate that further. However, I figured the disks had already been partitioned, so I started a live session and ran sfdisk. The result is listed below (Note I installed on /dev/sdb, the second drive): I also attach the definition file for the virtual machine, in case it helps. ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo sfdisk -l Disk /dev/sda: 1958 cylinders, 255 heads, 63 sectors/track Warning: extended partition does not start at a cylinder boundary. [Bug 838028] Re: First hard drive not found by ubiquity (VirtualBox)
Actually, I think I just figured out why I see this behavior. It appears I forgot one crucial piece of information in the bug report; the larger disk is not empty, in fact it's almost full from a previous test, I forgot to erase that data. I also missed that the first option is the "resize" option, not "use entire disk" (for some reason I just assumed it would be "use entire disk"), but since the larger drive cannot be resized, it only shows the smaller drive. So it seems this is not a bug after all, it's just me not reading carefully enough.
