[Bug 1173119] Re: Alt-tab not working properly after upgrade

2013-04-26 Thread Jens Georg
One idea was org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-windows being set
to Tab was interfering with the binding ,but resetting it did not
help. Super-Tab is working fine, though

You're most likely missing the mp3 parsers/codecs from gstreamer.
installing gst-plugins-good, -bad, -ugly and -ffmpeg (Rygel 0.16.x) or
-avcodec (Rygel >= 0.17) should fix this.

[Bug 827030] Re: Rygel does not autostart

2013-03-06 Thread Jens Georg
There are two problems you describe in the initial report:

a) Enabling in rygel and thus making it autostart through the
preferences UI does not actually enable it.

This was fixed in rygel 0.15.0 and so is included in current
quantal/raring packages.

b) IF the autostart file was in /etc/xdg/autostart, it would run for
every user on login, maybe unnoticed, and share things. I'm not sure
that this is a sensible thing to do.

[Bug 988925] Re: util-linux no longer provides ddate

2013-03-03 Thread Georg Nebehay
In order to provide a remedy to this miserable situation I created a
personal package archive (ppa) that contains a modified version of util-
linux providing ddate for Ubuntu 12.04. To enable it, enter the commands

$ sudo apt-add-repository ppa:gnebehay/util-linux
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get upgrade

and voilà:

$ ddate
Today is Boomtime, the 62nd day of Chaos in the YOLD 3179

Future changes to the original util-linux package will be merged into
the ppa. In order to revert to the original version of util-linux, I
recommend the use of ppa-purge

$ sudo apt-get install ppa-purge
$ sudo ppa-purge ppa:gnebehay/util-linux

[Bug 973874] Re: Misspelling in the installer

mint-kde/de/46/+translate). I activated now the suggested translation
(used in "slideshow-mint", where it apparently was correctly
translated).

Oh, I just saw that in the bug description it says it's in the Gnome
version. But it "slideshow-mint" it was correct?!

[Bug 1115964] [NEW] gpicview does not browse through mpo files

2013-02-04 Thread Georg Eckert
Public bug reported:

When opening MPO files (container with 2 jpeg images - Fujifilm W3
Digicam), everything is fine. GPicView recognises one of the contained
jpegs and opens it. But when clicking "next" (left or right arrow) it
only browses through JPEGs in this folder and ignores MPO files.

I do not know if this is an gpicview issue, though all the other image
viewers have the same problem (except for ristretto, gthumbs workaround
is with the option "determine image type from content").

[Bug 1085169] Re: LibreOffice Menus Stop Working even with libreoffice>=1:3.6.2~rc2-0ubuntu4 and indicator-appmenu>=12.10.3-0ubuntu2.1

2013-01-25 Thread Georg Ramer
I see the same thing in writer. I'm on 12.10, having done a dist-upgrade
from 12.04. There doesn't seem to be a system to when it happens. I've
had to docs open at the same and one working and one not. For me
keyboard shortcuts that do not depend on ALT still work even when the
menu stops working (e.g. F11 for Styles and Formatting).

Is there any diagnostic I could run to help fix the problem?

[Bug 1080089] [NEW] canon lide 60 is not moved to start position / head not returned

2012-11-17 Thread Georg Altmann
Public bug reported:

When scanning pages with a canoscan lide 60 (usb) the head of the scanner is
not returned to its starting position after each scan.
That is, scanning multiple pages works, but at the start of each scan the
scanner first moves its head to the starting position, instead of doing this
after each completed scan.
Expected behavior: the scanner head is returned to the starting position after
each successful scan.
This is a regession from previous versions, where the scanner head returned
successfully (I am not sure which version, but I believe ubuntu 10.04 worked).

[Bug 1065942] [NEW] playing audio prevent cpu from entering c states

2012-10-12 Thread georg
Public bug reported:

Hello,

i am running kubuntu 12.04 LTS on an thinkpad x201 with i5-540m cpu.
Kernel is 3.2.0-31.

When playing audio, powertop reports, that the cpu is not entering c
states correctly (Package c3 (pc3) and c6 (pc6) states at 0.0 % all the
time). without audio both states are used.

So, When playing audio, the power consumption rises from 8 to 14 watts,
resulting in higher cpu temperatures, higher coller rpm and significantly
shorter running time.
The problem occurs with any audio application. It doesnt matter if the laptop
is plugged into an external amplifier or uses internal speakers and the problem
stays, when running on AC.

The same Problem also occurs on other linux distros.

With windows 7 the power consumption resulting from playing audio is
significantly lower at ~1-2 watt.

I don't know if this only happens on thinkpad x201.

a fix would be really great, since battery running time could be much
better.

Georg

[Bug 869684] Re: 530 login incorrect error after upgrade

2012-07-21 Thread Anton Georg Mückl
Hello All,

as stated in bug #992578 I continue here to add my findings.

Uncommenting the line
#authrequiredpam_shells.so

in the file /etc/pam.d/vsftpd just made the error message lines in
/var/log/auth.log disappear:
vsftpd: PAM unable to dlopen(pam_shells.so): /lib/security/pam_shells.so:
cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
vsftpd: PAM adding faulty module: pam_shells.so

but a local user could not login.

Also just installing vsftpd again like

# apt-get remove vsftpd
# rm /etc/pam.d/vsftpd
# apt-get install vsftpd

did NOT work.

On my fresh installation the state of the pam_shells.so is as follows:

/lib/security/pam_shells.so does not exist
/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/security/pam_shells.so does exist

Only removing (i.e. renaming) /etc/pam.d/vsftpd worked for me, too (as
mentioned in bug #992578)

The contents of the log files were:

root@develop:/etc/pam.d# tail /var/log/auth.log

Re: [Bug 927282] Re: Java crash with icedtea plugin and Firefox 10+

2012-07-14 Thread Carl-Georg Madelung
Hey Micah Gersten

Thank you for the mails you have sent me.
I can tell that as of today, July 14. I again tried FireFox and Iced Tea
worked like it used to and I used my homebanking system and it all vent
well. I have not done any thing special since I earlier this spring tried
to update Iced Tea which did not work. I think a new version must be put in
the common update system. At least now it works perfectly, on one of my to
Linux mashines. Later I will try the other, and if it runs perfectly I will
not do anything more about it. If, however it does not work I will get back
to launchpad.

Thank you very much,
Carl-Georg Madelung.

[Bug 1018530] Re: No write access in a 9p/virtfs shared folder

2012-07-13 Thread Georg Poppe
Okay, it is working now. I am using the mapped security model but I wanted to
avoid it at first.
I hope proxy FS will be supported in quantal.

But I am still wondering why passthrough security is working smoothly
with NTFS-3G.

[Bug 1018530] Re: No write access in a 9p/virtfs shared folder

2012-06-28 Thread Georg Poppe
No, there are no results relating /data. I would have wondered about it,
because I already configured apparmor to allow access to /data. The current
rules in the profile of the virtual machine are
  "/storage/data/" rw,
  "/storage/data/**" rw,

I also disabled the apparmor profile but it didn't help either.

[Bug 1018530] [NEW] No write access in a 9p/virtfs shared folder

2012-06-27 Thread Georg Poppe
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu version: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Kernel: 3.2.0-25-generic
Version of qemu-kvm: 1.0+noroms-0ubuntu13

I have created an shared folder for an virtual machine which is managed
by libvirt.

I mounted it in the virtual machine with this command: mount -t 9p -o
trans=virtio,version=9p2000.L data /data
The filesystem permissions of all files an folders in the shared folder are set
to 777. I expected that I have the full permissions also in the virtual machine.

Regardless of the permissions on the filesystem I cannot write or create files
and folders in the virtual machine. The original filesystem (/storage) is XFS.
In another shared folder (similar config in libvirt) which is originally NTFS I
have no problems.

[Bug 794474] Re: latitude e6420 screen flickering (sandy bridge intel video card)

2012-06-26 Thread Georg Grabler
For your information:
This bug exists obviously on more machines than one, but not on all Dell
Latitude e6420 machines, but on some others.
I guess it has something to do with the video card installed, anyway, I already
filed a bug report back in 3/2011.

Upstream bug:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=35812

I'm currently on trying to reproduce the error for Daniel Vetter on
3.5-rc4. If it is still reproducable, we will try to track down this
bug.

Background:
In times pre-3.2, this happened during KMS.
It did not happen with kernel 3.2.8 (no clue why!).
I am not sure about 3.3, since I never used 3.3 (did stay with 3.2.8 - it
worked).
Since 3.4 it happens (for me) only on X login, not at KMS stage!
What KMS and the X-Login (on KDE) have in common? A resolution change. KMS
changes the screen resolution, KDM is displayed afterwrads (in a wrong
resolution), and after login it does set the resolution to the chosen one,
where I personally get stripes today.

I am not using ubuntu but chakra, so this is definitely no ubuntu issue,
but an upstream one. I tried that with arch and fedora as well - same
results.

The situation has gotten better, but it seems the bug we formerly had in
the KMS is now in the X11 resolution change. Even though, I could not
reproduce it (yet) changing resolution after I logged in successfully.

@Screen Flickering:
This is NOT an issue, the screen won't break! I have had it running having the
stripes for a day(!), and ye, it did flicker a lot afterwards. If you leave
your laptop alone, shut down, it will not flicker after a few hours of resting.

Since this bug got more attention now again by the intel guys (always
very helpful and nice I gotta' say), I hope we can track it down for
future kernel versions.

Hope this helps to accept the bug report and get it to [upstream]. Maybe
some others are willing to help as well.

[Bug 82853] Re: Add support for the smbk5pwd overlay

2012-06-19 Thread Georg Rath
The funny thing is that, far as I can tell, heimdal-dev already is a
build-dependency in the precise version of the package.
The only thing that needs to be done is to reenable the generation of the
slapd-smbk5pwd package.
The patch in #21 does just that. It also adds the heimdal-fix patch from the
debian repositories. I deployed the modified package on a test system and it
works without problems.

Thank you for reopening this bug and taking a look at the problem.

[Bug 997978] Re: KVM images lose connectivity with bridged network

2012-06-12 Thread Georg Leciejewski
Got this wrong:
vnet0, vnet1 are the bridges created by libvirt, => are the network interface
created by libvirt.

I am jsut reading this bug report concerning the MAC address problems:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=571991
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=583139

and so far it seems ok that the br0 still has the MAC of eth0 and the
VMs both start with FE::

[Bug 997978] Re: KVM images lose connectivity with bridged network

2012-06-12 Thread Georg Leciejewski
@serge, thanks for your input. here Dom0 ifconfig, with 2 machines
running.

i setup br0 myself because the machines are running at hetzner, with
special addon IP's so the vm's can be reached from the outside.
(wiki.hetzner.de/index.php/KVM_mit_Nutzung_aller_IPs_-_the_easy_way) i
am also evaluating the problem with hetzner support to ensure its not
one of their routers in from of the Dom0.

vnet0, vnet1 are the bridges created by libvirt, but the vm have static
ip entries in /network/interfaces and are bound to br0 via libvirt.

[Bug 997978] Re: KVM images lose connectivity with bridged network

2012-06-09 Thread Georg Leciejewski
I have the same symptoms with Ubuntu 12. The network is not reachable 3-4 times
a day, for about 1-2 minutes but recovers by itself. Does not seem traffic/load
related as it also happens, when there is nothing on.

- No dhcp
- bridged network with static ip's for guests
- atm only running one VM Ubuntu 12
- pretty bare host install with just kvm and libvirt
- no relevant output in any log files

[Bug 82853] Re: Add support for the smbk5pwd overlay

2012-05-15 Thread Georg Rath
Attached you will find a patch that builds the smbk5pwd overlay.
The patch was done against the openldap 2.4.28-1.1ubuntu4 package.
I basically copied over the missing parts from the debian version of the
package.

In my opinion the point raised by Mathias Gug is moot. If people want to
use heimdal in combination with smbk5pwd, they should be able to do so.
Especially since there are no downsides to including the smbk5pwd
overlay in the package.

As long as this patch not accepted feel free to use the openldap package
from my PPA (https://launchpad.net/~georg-rath/+archive/ppa-mrce). I
will try to keep up with the official Ubuntu releases.

** Patch added: "Build the smbk5pwd overlay in the precise package."

[Bug 960214] Re: Encodebin transcoding from MKV to MPEG2 fails

2012-04-26 Thread Jens Georg
Actually the issue is the transcoding to mpeg. The reason seems that in
contrast to upstream, the mpeg2enc plugin and the ffenc_mpeg2video habe
the same rank secondary; encodebin seems to select the mpeg2enc plugin
then which causes the issue. Moving
/usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstmpeg2enc.so out of the way makes
transcoding work again.

[Bug 932317] Re: Rygel crash on start up

No, I didn't. That is a by-product of vala's code generator.

While the messages look scary, you can completely ignore them. If it
really is crashing, please add a core dump.

Rygel does nothing here because XDG directories are apparently not
configured for users on ubuntu-server. You have to add paths manually by
copying /etc/rygel.conf to $HOME/.config and modifying the "uris" key in
the [MediaExport] section.

Public bug reported:

bank or similar is atempted using java. Everyting is up to date, all
updates on Ubuntu are made. This mashine is a Thinkpad 3 GB ram, lots of
empty space on harddrive, and the same problem happends on my Pachard

Google Crome, that have no problems what so ever. Actually the fail
happends when Nem ID the Danish National safety program tryes to launch.
If you can not make this problem go away, we are compelled to use Google
Crome, and I would be very sorry to let all my web-activity be through
Google, as they know much too much about everyone as it is already. Hope
this info is enough. Thank you.

[Bug 959214] Re: package libc6 2.13-0ubuntu13 failed to install/upgrade: Unterprozess neues pre-installation-Skript gab den Fehlerwert 127 zurück

2012-03-21 Thread David Georg Reichelt
Wenn man im Skript die Zeilen bei der abort-upgrade Prüfung so ändert:

if [ "$type" != abort-upgrade ]
then
  echo "davor"
  ldbytes=`head -c 20 /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 | od -c`
  echo "dannach"

[Bug 959214] Re: package libc6 2.13-0ubuntu13 failed to install/upgrade: Unterprozess neues pre-installation-Skript gab den Fehlerwert 127 zurück

2012-03-21 Thread David Georg Reichelt

[Bug 831164] Re: lsh-utils version 2.0.4-dfsg-8 failed to build in oneiric

2012-03-15 Thread Georg Rath
I am not sure you fixed the symlinks the right way. I tried building
openldap with heimdal-dev as a dependency (for the smbk5pwd module) and
it didn't work, so I took the symlink fixing from the precise release of
heimdal-dev and it worked like a charm.

The changes I ported are attached.
I am quite new to packaging, so any feedback would be appreciated.

[Bug 924364] [NEW] muon does not show package name, version information

2012-01-31 Thread Georg Müller
Public bug reported:

I cannot see the name of the package or the version change (from, to) in
the table.

Version step is somehow visible via changelog, but package name is completely
missing. Sometimes the descriptions are useless.
Example for these descriptions (and only these are shown in the table):
1. "scalable distributed version control system"
2. "fast, scalable, distributed revision control system"
3. "easy to use distributed version control system"
4. "distributed, interactive, smart revision control system"

These are the descriptions shown for four different DVCS. Now guess what
is what ;)

[Bug 913965] Re: Rygel does not transcode any video

2012-01-09 Thread Jens Georg
Andreas is right, we bet on the wrong horse too early. You either need
gstreamer-0.10 master to fix this or rygel 0.12 which reverts those
changes.

Please note that the current development version of Rygel will _not_
help since it uses the same code as 0.10.

[Bug 889527] Re: [WARNING: at /build/buildd/linux-3.0.0/net/sched/sch_generic.c:255 dev_watchdog] wired network connection problem since last update

2011-11-12 Thread Hans Georg Zojer
Short: Problem has gone away/disappeared.

Long:
This Problem did not appear on Windows, but also reproducible on Ubuntu 11.10
Live-CD (so the Linux-update could not have been responsible for this
malfunction). But on the same night, when Linux update was, there was also a
Windows 7 update. Some other websites with similar problems suggested disabling
wake-on-lan, wake-on-key, but there was no setting in BIOS to
activate/deactivate such feature (and network-boot was also disabled). But I
disabled the VT-setting in BIOS (because BIOS-help said, Vanderpool Technology
should be only enabled if required). After saving and rebooting, the problem
was gone away on Live-CD and on Ubuntu-Installation. After reenabling
VT-setting in BIOS, saving and rebooting, the network-card is still working.
Maybe Windows-Update changed some system-BIOS-settings or
networkcard-BIOS/firmware-settings which get lost after saving BIOS settings.

My system is: HP Pavilion dv7-6b02eg.

[Bug 889527] [NEW] wired network connection problem since last update

2011-11-12 Thread Hans Georg Zojer
Public bug reported:

wired network gets disconnected/timesout/packetloss after a few minutes.
I can trigger it mostly, when doing "ping www.google.at" and openen
"http://www.hans-georg-zojer.at"; (or other websites) in firefox. Or when
loading severel websites at the same time. Or when connecting to FTP-
Server with Nautilus and surfing with firefox. Problem was first
detected during the night of 2011-11-11 to 2011-11-12. It seems to arise
from update at night of 2011-11-11 to 2011-11-12. (Or correlated with
stability problems with VirtualBox. Or correlated with cpufreq
/indicator-cpufreq) Network-Card seems to work under Windows 7 without
problem. Maybe timing problem in linux kernel?

[Bug 829843] Re: Connecting headphones kills sound

2011-10-17 Thread Georg Ostrovski
At me the connector combobox DOES change when I plug in and out the
headphones. But whether headphones are in or out, sound will only work
if I manually set it to "analog speakers" ("analog headphones" in either
case produces no sound whatsoever).

[Bug 868641] Re: Additional Information boxes -> black text on dark gray background

2011-10-06 Thread Georg H.
Hi Christopher,

good question. I had some problems during the installation process
(e.g. skype:i386 -> bug in dpkg) or my openGL runs not very stable
(Lenovo x121e (Intel I3 with integrated Intel HD 3000)) but I think I
didn't change any desktop configuration.

Therefore I have tried the following:
1) Add a new user -> Login (KDE with KDE default settings) -> start libreoffice
-> same result
2) Delete libreoffice-kde -> start libreoffice -> same result
3) Start a Kubuntu live system (USB stick with Kubuntu 11.10 Beta1) -> start
libreoffice -> same result
4) All other applications don't seem to have this bug.

HTH, Georg

[Bug 838161] Re: guided partitoning for entire disk creates empty partitions

2011-10-04 Thread Georg
No worries. I tried with the image http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu
/daily-live/current/oneiric-desktop-i386.iso synchronized with zsync Tue
Oct 4 20:40:01 CST 2011

To be sure, I also create a completely new disk for this test.
Interestingly, the installer crashed when it was almost done, but I have
not had any opportunity to investigate that further. However, I figured
the disks had already been partitioned, so I started a live session and
ran sfdisk. The result is listed below (Note I installed on /dev/sdb,
the second drive):

I also attach the definition file for the virtual machine, in case it
helps.

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo sfdisk -l

Actually, I think I just figured out why I see this behavior. It appears
I forgot one crucial piece of information in the bug report; the larger
disk is not empty, in fact it's almost full from a previous test, I
forgot to erase that data. I also missed that the first option is the
"resize" option, not "use entire disk" (for some reason I just assumed
it would be "use entire disk"), but since the larger drive cannot be
resized, it only shows the smaller drive.

So it seems this is not a bug after all, it's just me not reading
carefully enough. Sorry for the inconvenience.

[Bug 838028] Re: First hard drive not found by ubiquity (VirtualBox)

2011-10-02 Thread Georg
Sorry, the http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/daily-live/20110930
/oneiric-desktop-i386.iso is no longer available. However, I tried with
the latest image I have. I used zsync to synchronize the image:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/daily-live/current/oneiric-
desktop-i386.iso on Mon Oct 3 12:40:01 CST 2011. With this image, I
still see the same problem.

I'm attaching the Virtual Box machine definition file in case it helps.

[Bug 830440] Re: skype: error while loading shared libraries: libXss.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

2011-09-30 Thread Georg H.
I have the same behavior like #50

1) Check if skype is installed:
# dpkg -l skype:i386
Gewünscht=Unbekannt/Installieren/R=Entfernen/P=Vollständig Löschen/Halten
| Status=Nicht/Installiert/Config/U=Entpackt/halb konFiguriert/
 Halb installiert/Trigger erWartet/Trigger anhängig
|/ Fehler?=(kein)/R=Neuinstallation notwendig (Status, Fehler: GROSS=schlecht)
||/ Name   VersionBeschreibung
+++-==-==-
ii skype:i386 2.2.0.35-0onei VOIP and instant messaging client

2.1) Upgrade my system:

# apt-get upgrade
Reading package lists... Done
[...]
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-3.0.0-12-generic
Das folgende Paket verschwand von Ihrem System, da alle
Dateien von anderen Paketen überschrieben wurden:
  skype
Hinweis: Dies wird automatisch und absichtlich von dpkg durchgeführt.

=> Skype is replaced by another package (but why and which one?)

2.2) Install other packages has the same result:

# apt-get install appmenu-gtk:i386 libdbusmenu-glib4:i386 libdbusmenu-gtk4:i386
[...]
appmenu-gtk:i386 (0.3.0-0ubuntu1) wird eingerichtet ...
Trigger für libc-bin werden verarbeitet ...
ldconfig deferred processing now taking place
Das folgende Paket verschwand von Ihrem System, da alle
Dateien von anderen Paketen überschrieben wurden:
  skype
Hinweis: Dies wird automatisch und absichtlich von dpkg durchgeführt.

=> Skype is replaced by another package (but why and which one?)

3) Show package status:

# dpkg -l skype:i386
Gewünscht=Unbekannt/Installieren/R=Entfernen/P=Vollständig Löschen/Halten
| Status=Nicht/Installiert/Config/U=Entpackt/halb konFiguriert/
 Halb installiert/Trigger erWartet/Trigger anhängig
|/ Fehler?=(kein)/R=Neuinstallation notwendig (Status, Fehler: GROSS=schlecht)
||/ Name   VersionBeschreibung
+++-==-==-
un skype:i386 (keine Beschreibung vorhanden)

4) But skype is still there:
:~$ ls -la /usr/bin/skype
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 21362968 2011-06-08 12:26 /usr/bin/skype

5) At this point all the dependencies between skype and all 32bit libs
are gone. So apt want to "autoremove" them.

==> I think, there is something wrong with dpkg or with the skype
package. Thanks!

[Bug 838028] Re: First hard drive not found by ubiquity (VirtualBox)

2011-09-23 Thread Georg
Sorry Evan, I missed your comment above. Anyway, Colin is correct, the
drop down list only contains one hard drive (my reference to "Manual"
here was because that's the location of the drop down box on the screen,
sorry if that made it confusing).

Even though the drop down box only contains one hard drive, selecting
manual configuration will show both hard drives.

[Bug 838160] [NEW] guided partitoning for entire disk creates empty partitions

2011-08-31 Thread Georg
Public bug reported:

Platform: VirtualBox 4.0.12 r72916 on Ubuntu 10.04 2.6.38-11 generic
OS: [Kubuntu] oneiric-desktop-i386.iso (Beta 1 20110831)

Steps to reproduce:
1) Start machine with Live CD present
2) Select "Start Kubuntu"
3) Choose Swedish language
4) Select "Install Kubuntu"
5) Click "Forward" to get to the disk partition options
6) Select "Guided" and "Entire Disk"
7) Complete installation with default options
8) Wait for installation to complete
9) Open a terminal and enter "sudo sfdisk -l"

Expected Result:
- 3 partitions, 1 swap, 1 Linux and 1 extended

Actual Result
- 5 partitions, 1 swap, 1 Linux, 1 extended and 2 empty

Here is the result of my "sudo sfdisk -l" (Sorry it's in Swedish, but
basically it lists sda3 and sda4 as empty ("Tom").

Disk /dev/sda: 1958 cylindrar, 255 huvuden, 63 sektorer/spår
