[Bug 287240] Re: printer prints garbage like: %!PS-Adobe-3.0, %%Creator: (Openoffice.org 2.4) for pages...instead of printing the actual page

2009-04-29 Thread georg
Now, it's working again. Strange. I reinstalled Cups, the drivers and
tried to print. I did that three times yesterday also, but with no
success. It's a little frustrating that after a update of the Cups, it
prints garbage. Anyway, here is the error_log that came out now (even
if there were no error this time).

[Bug 350919] [NEW] jaunty fails to wake up from hibernation

2009-03-29 Thread Georg Neis
Public bug reported:

Since I upgraded to Jaunty some days ago, my system doesn't wake up from
hibernation anymore.
When I turn the computer on after hibernating, I get the Ubuntu boot splash and
the message Waking up. Please wait. Then after some time the screen becomes
blank and nothing happens.

When I now hard-reboot the computer, then the system will hang before
even booting the OS, namely at the point where the BIOS says
Initialising USB controllers ... (note that the affirmative ok or
done does not appear). When I turn the computer off by pressing the
power button for some seconds and turn it on again, it will halt at the
same point. If I unplug the power cable, replug and turn on, then it
will boot fine (including Ubuntu).

System information is attached.

[Bug 349847] [NEW] no sound in amarok

2009-03-27 Thread Georg Neis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: amarok

I've just upgraded to Jaunty. When I start amarok it opens up fine but
at the top of the screen the following message pops up:

-
Phonon: KDE's Multimedia Library
The audio playback device HDA Intel (AD198x Analog) does not work.
Failing back to default.
-

When I try to play a file now, I don't get any audio output and at some
point amarok says Too many errors encountered in playlist. Stopped
playback.

I can play files fine using Totem or VLC.

2009-03-14 Thread Georg Wittler
under gnome I once saw a very short failure message (just a few seconds) about
something like ... X lock file could not be cleared . or something like
that.
I couldn't read it completely as it disappeared very quickly. I never saw it a
second time. The amazing thing is that suspend used to work with kernel
2.6-28-8-generic and stopped to work since the update to 2.6-28-9.
But now it still doesn't work when booting the old kernel 2.6.-28.

[Bug 252977] Re: Hardy and Intrepid freeze with kernel error: Eeek! page_mapcount(page) went negative! (-1)

2009-02-16 Thread georg wiltschek
i tried to boot with noapic and nolapic boot options and it ran well for
a while, then ktorrent, firefox, pidgin crashed within a couple of
minutes and the system went down.

switched back to my old RAM now, will see if that helps.

another thing i wonder about (even if i think it's just coincidence) is
this post from one of the dupes of this bug:

ChrisLees wrote on 2008-02-18: (permalink)
I have run Memtest86 for 5 passes. The RAM (which is new, anyway) passes. I
have a Core 2 Duo. The problem has only happened twice - once on the 14th of
Feb, the other time on the 16th. I have had this computer unaltered since the
beginning of the year.

had a strange crash two days ago and it got really bad today... any
chance that this is somehow related to the date?

[Bug 301276] Re: kmail blank in front of smpt server

2008-12-01 Thread georg
I'm quite sure, it was a copy paster error and of course my fault, but I spend
about half an hour searching why my email settings were not working. It was
quite hard to find the blank and I did not expect to find a problem at this
place, because it looked fine and I copied the address from a webpage.
I think every user commited string where white spaces don't make sense should
be trimmed ((QString::trimmed()) ), because this kind of copy paste error are
quite hard to find. The server invalid dialog sounds great, too.

[Bug 301286] [NEW] dolphin crashes system with huge images

2008-11-23 Thread georg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dolphin

If you have a real huge image a folder dolphin trys to create a
thumbnail. It allocates a lot of memory (surprise, surprise) and at some
point it starts to swap. When this point is reached your system goes
unstable and you are happy if you don't need to kill X.

Summary:
Put some real huge image in Folder open it in dolphin and press preview. I used
a 105M big png.

[Bug 295208] [NEW] meaning of the eject symbol next to cdrom drive

2008-11-07 Thread Georg Neis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

In the Places sidepane, there's a symbol next to the CD cdrive. To me
it looks like an eject symbol. But when there is no disc in the drive
and I click the symbol, I get the following message: Unable to mount
media. There is probably no media in the drive. This message suggests
that it was trying to mount a CD. This is not what I expect when I
click an eject symbol. I expect it to open the disc tray or maybe just
to tell me that there's no disc inside.

[Bug 293310] [NEW] goes to foreground at reload but is not focussed

2008-11-03 Thread Georg Neis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

I have the following situation. Evince is displaying a PDF file but the
window is in the background. I generate a new version of the PDF in the
foreground. When the file changes, evince automatically reloads and its
window appears in the foreground. That's good because at this point I
want to check how my changes look like anyway. But what is annoying is
that the evince window is not focussed.

This is on Ubuntu 8.10, with evince 2.24.1-0ubuntu1.

[Bug 288430] Re: gnome panel after copy changes to one icon affect the other

2008-10-27 Thread Manfred Georg
How can I possibly make this clearer?!
I'll try again!

It is possible to create two icons on the panel which have the property that
when one of them
is changed (such as by changing the command it executes) the other will also
change (after a reboot).

How to reproduce.
- Install Intrepid (Beta), or Hardy.
- use control-click-drag to copy the original firefox icon into a neighboring
position on the panel, thereby creating a copy of it.
- right click on the NEW icon and select properties.
- Edit the command line in properties (such as by adding --no-remote -P
profile2)
- reboot
- the original icon will now execute the modified command

The same procedure can be used to change the icon picture of the
original firefox icon by modifying the copies icon picture.

[Bug 288430] Re: gnome panel after copy changes to one icon affect the other

2008-10-27 Thread Manfred Georg
Ok, if that is the expected behaviour (I I don't think it should be, as
it is very counter intuitive) than how come the behaviour changes if I
copy the copy?

- Install Intrepid (Beta), or Hardy.
- use control-click-drag to copy the original firefox icon into a neighboring
position on the panel, thereby creating a copy of it.
- use control-click-drag to copy the copy of the icon into a neighboring
position, thereby creating a second copy.
- right click on the FIRST COPY's icon and select properties.
- Edit the command line in properties (such as by adding --no-remote -P
profile2)
- right click on the SECOND COPY's icon and select properties.
- Edit the command line in properties (such as by adding --no-remote -P
profile3)
- reboot
- the original icon will now execute the FIRST COPY's command, the SECOND COPY
will execute the correct command.

This is inconsistent behaviour.

[Bug 288430] Re: gnome panel after copy changes to one icon affect the other

2008-10-25 Thread Manfred Georg
Sorry I didn't make myself clear. A similar procedure is able to make the icon
change as well. The problem is clearly that the icons are sharing the same
data. They are identical after a reboot, and are both the same as the last
change
that was made to either one. I've personally done it with the icon picture and
command
settings, but I assume it also works with title and comment.

Again, I've only seen this when copying the original firefox icon after
a fresh install.

[Bug 288430] [NEW] gnome panel after copy changes to one icon affect the other

2008-10-23 Thread Manfred Georg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

It is possible to have icons on the panel which share resources. When a
change is made to the launch command of one it will become visible in
the other after a reboot (probably also relogin).

How to reproduce.
- Install Intrepid (Beta), or Hardy.
- click control drag the firefox icon into the panel (a + sign cursor will
appear) to make a copy.
- right click select properties.
- Edit the command such as by adding --no-remote -P profile2 before %u
- be happy until next reboot
- reboot
- notice that the original firefox icon now is changed to be the same as its
copy
(additional changes to the original or the copy will affect both after
logging in again).

The same can be done by changing the icon. I'm testing whether it is possible
to reproduce this in
other ways than by copying the original firefox icon (I immediately erase the
other two default icons).

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 8.10

[Bug 277298] [NEW] dvips defaults to a4 despite /etc/papersize and $PAPERSIZE

2008-10-02 Thread Manfred Georg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: texlive-base-bin

The default behavior in dvips is to get a4 paper despite any system settings
contrary.
Although I wish the program actually looked at /etc/papersize or the
environment,
the package could just set the default correctly in
/usr/share/texlive-bin/config.ps
and /etc/texmf/dvips/config/config.ps
by placing the letterSize block above the a4 block for
locals that demand letter paper. This could be handled
by a script when dvips is configured.

Sigh, yet one more reason we should all just use a4 and be done with it.

Thanks,

Manfred

[Bug 267115] Re: Intrepid Alpha 5, HP Mininote 2133, Live CD, X Server Hangs after Boot

2008-09-26 Thread Georg Duffner
i'm having a similar problem on a k8m800 based laptop, even with the actual
driver.
what i see:
- with default xorg.conf: busy cursor off-center, hanging after some seconds,
laptop frozen
- with openchrome specified in xorg.conf: idem
- with vesa specified in xorg.conf: idem
- with openchrome and resolution 1024x768 specified: busy cursor centered
freezing after some seconds, a light shade of the gdm-screen (i can discern the
username entry field), i can hear the gdm drums sound; if i move the mouse
(touchpad) it draws a new frozen busy cursor somewhere else on the screen,
not deleting the first one; there is also response to setting caps-lock on the
keyboard: the led will go on after more than a minute.
- with vesa and resolution specified: works smoothly.

i tried setting the following options one by one, which didn't solve the
problem:
Option AccelMethod EXA
Option DRIfalse
Option EnableAGPDMA 0

i attach my xorg.conf, xorg.0.log and a file kern.log with the last
lines of kern.log

Re: [Bug 267740] Re: improve description in manpage

2008-09-08 Thread Georg Neis
The obvious things are the missing that, the missing an, and the
missing fullstop. But then there's more space for improvement. The
description doesn't mention at all the program's purpose. I would
start with chm2pdf converts CHM documents to PDF. Then you can say
what special features it has (password protection of the generated PDF
file, etc.). And maybe say what batch conversion means, I really
don't know (is it just the fact that you can call it with more than
one filename?). And I also have no clue what that Explorer-like
interface is or how to enable it. The manpage doesn't mention it
anywhere else.

Also, there are many markup errors (look for single quotes) and even
the single line description is missing a word.

[Bug 250960] [NEW] REGRESSION: firefox 3.0 does not honor -P flag to start a session using a specific profile

2008-07-22 Thread Manfred Georg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

I use the -P flag to start firefox with different profiles depending on what I
am using it for (it separates cookies, history, and preferences).
This flag does not work in Hardy with firefox 3.0 anymore.

examples of use:

firefox -P default %u

firefox -P profile2 -no-remote %u

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 8.04.1
Release:8.04

Re: [Bug 250960] Re: REGRESSION: firefox 3.0 does not honor -P flag to start a session using a specific profile

2008-07-22 Thread Manfred Georg
There is no output.
It opens the correct page but in the wrong profile (it uses the
currently running firefox instance instead of opening a new one with
the specified profile)

for example

firefox
* runs firefox *
firefox -P profile2 http://www.cnn.com
* opens a new window with http://www.cnn.com in it but using the
default profile *

if I close all the firefox windows (and wait a couple seconds for it
actually to shut down firefox) and then give the command
firefox -P profile2
* opens firefox using profile2 *
firefox -P default
* opens a window using profile2 *

Hope this explains what I'm seeing,

Manfred

[Bug 244411] Re: Samba shares never work with winbind installed (8.04)

2008-07-16 Thread Georg Schmidt
I can confirm this bug. Stopping winbind, the samba shares can be
accessed, with winbind running they cannot.

Has caused quite a lot of trouble here

[Bug 227183] calibration tool and actual driver

2008-07-04 Thread Georg Klimm
Sometimes it seems to be better to wait a few days:
Maybe the attached new driver also works for you
A calibration tool is in the zip too

[Bug 227183] xserver-xorg-input-penmount-1.3.0

2008-06-30 Thread Georg Klimm
I've discovered a new Serverflag: Option AllowEmptyInput True
With this option you must not make the dirty trick with the mouse_drv.so

I've not solved the problem to get the data into the penmountdriver,
because without the mousedriver there are obviously no data on the
/dev/input/mive or /dev/input/mouse

Now I dig deep into the driver and try to evaluate the raw data from the
usb-port

[Bug 227183] Re: no calibration tool

2008-06-30 Thread Georg Klimm
In Debian etch they make the right movement on the screen but in 10% of the
screen. With the PMode-variable I can move this frame from corner to corner but
no adjustment gives satusfiring results.
The newer drivers from penmount don't run in cuase auf the glibc 2.4
So I updating to lenny where the ABI-Problem in Xorg comes up. I spend hours of
my life for this tiny $% touchscreen :-(
Now I hve decided to make a break for a couple of days and decide, if I make a
new driver from your hints, the sources from xorg and the sources of penmount.
(Melting all the nice code in a developers-pot :-)
Anyway, thanks for your helpfull ideas!

And please forgive me my terrible english ...

[Bug 227183] Re: no calibration tool

2008-06-30 Thread Georg Klimm
I've some experiences with the serial penmount: they are much more easier to
handle!
Unfortunately kontron doesn't distribute the ePanel with the serial Penmount
and the customer will have categorical these kontron-devices ...

I promise that I don't give up :-)

[Bug 227183] Re: no calibration tool

2008-06-29 Thread Georg Klimm
Hello,

I'm using a
http://de.kontron.com/products/boards+and+mezzanines/embedded+sbc/mobile+flatpanel+sbc/epanelpm.html
 with a penmount touchpad PM6000USB.
After reading this thread, I've upgraded from debian etch to lenny to compile
the patched driver an now the latest version from
http://gitweb.freedesktop.org/?p=xorg/driver/xf86-input-penmount.git;a=commit;h=8a9ff94e3db692736f86d52e569f65f6f363b0e0

The Problem ist that the X.Org X Server 1.4.0.90 don't evaluate any
parameters in the concerning InputDevice Section :-(
This is detectable in the circumstance that the DebugLevel-Option has no
effect.

On this system is NO mouse.

When I take /dev/input/mice as input I have a x/y-swapped result. In case of
/dev/event2 it is only an arbitrary movement of the mousecursor.
In fact seems a main problem that the xserver generates a mouse when no mouse
is defined in the xorg.conf.

Any idea?
