[Bug 1078699] Re: winbind won't start at boot

2015-01-28 Thread gerstrong
No, not even the fix. I might have to look deeper into it. It's too bad,
that this bug is that old.

Samba 4 is really great. Once installing and compiling by hand under
Ubuntu it really rocks. I'm pretty sure there is a lot of mess with the
packages patches and old scripts. We should find a way to fix those
issue and make samba more reliable.

Using Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS. I also have this bug ans as Clint Byrum
(clint-fewbar) writes with lsb-init scripts I have to agree. I don't
understand everything but I have the old settings and changed them now.
Rebooting the system. Let's see if winbind and nmbd are loaded...

[Bug 467518] Re: kdevelop crashed with SIGSEGV in KDevelop::MainWindow::configureShortcuts()

2012-10-20 Thread gerstrong
Please for god sake, revert back to KDevelop 4.3.1!

4.3.90, I think is on of the betas of 4.4.0. For testing purposes it's
okay, but in a final distro Release this shouldn't be here!

That version crashed a lot of times in my system for random reasons,
sometimes changing a tab or killing a running App. It was pretty random.

I understand that because it's not stable ergo it doesn't belong to this
distro version. So, please replace it!

[Bug 653430] Re: gpilot-conduit address and calendar conduits missing

2010-10-04 Thread gerstrong
I think the missing libs have to be in the evolution basic package. On
Ubuntu 10.04 the libs are still available. Under 10.10 they seem to be
missing.

[Bug 533196] Re: Ambiance and skype don't play nice

2010-04-18 Thread gerstrong
Yeah, I also agree to that.

Maybe in some skype package we could set GTK+ as default configuration.
It looks awesome that way.

Eclipse in some parts has the same problem, but that's a Java issue I
think. I'm still looking where that problem comes from...

[Bug 552378] [NEW] human theme missing in lucid

2010-03-31 Thread gerstrong
Public bug reported:

I like the new theme of Ubuntu, I really do!

However there is something that bugs me a lot.

Where is the good old human theme? It's not there by default and I
didn't find it to get installed through synaptic. Someone would say,
okay, you can download that, but why would I have to do that?

Remember, this will be LTS. So some guys will jump from 8.04 to 10.04
and they already will be surprised about the changes. The Ubuntu Human
theme should be still included, so the people can use it.

Buttons to the left. Why do you change that? There were to the right
end. Why now left? It's okay, you can change it through the themes, but
remember, that neither Windows nor Mac changed afaik. You are doing it.
The people will have to acustomize to that change. Please consider.

The idea is okay, I like it, also the colours, but you still should have
the old human theme like in karmic and the older ones, or someone
similar, for the people who won't like that idea and it should be there
to get selected without doing changes to the packages...

Thanks! :-)

Re: [Bug 207072] Re: nautilus does not display samba shares for machines inside an ADS network.

2009-07-14 Thread gerstrong
it really would be nice to able to configure the Domain-Server or Workgroup
of a MS-Net when you install Ubuntu or be able to search it automatically.

You must fiddle around with config files to get the correct name.

Older versions had a configuration (The old network manager) to setup
this.

I also have that problem with Nautilus.

[Bug 298976] [NEW] pulse-audio in intrepid a bit old

2008-11-17 Thread gerstrong
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

Sorry, if I have to discuss that, but I don't understand why in
intrepid, pulseaudio hasn't been updated since hardy.

I have the version 0.9.10 and there is 0.9.13. Looks like the packages
are taken from hardy and that was it.

In some cases I understand that, but pulseaudio is a bit buggy.

I'm going to compile the newest version, because I have a lot of
problems with it.

[Bug 200883] Re: pulseaudio will not die, hangs ps

2008-11-17 Thread gerstrong
Same error here on a desktop PC. I'm not sure, if it's fault of pulse-
audio, but sometimes no sound is heard, and the cpu gets very slow.

When I check the processes with "top", I see that "artsd" is running
like 100 times at same time. It looks like it is respawn somehow. After
a while, my system hangs and I have to restart it.

Killing all artsd processos doesn't work. They are respawn all the time

This problem still must be solved. If anyone want the full support of
Hardware, but also Intrepid, I would recommend installing the Kernel
2.6.24 and using the packages of Intrepid. You won't notice the
difference, and gspca can be compiled and works.

This would be another temporary solution.

I believe, that gspca-source is too old now. There must come something
similiar, but official didn't update this.

I only can recommend updating the complete Linux-Kernel, because the
driver have been integrated. Compile your own version downloading of
www.kernels.org

Maybe the most recent Kernel works for you. I cannot guarantee that. I'm
sorry. But maybe you have luck. Anyway the developers are still working
hard on it!

Re: [Bug 260918] Re: needed: libv4l and associated application patches (or "gspca stopped working in 2.6.27")

2008-10-21 Thread gerstrong
Once again, you must check if you have 32-bits or 64-bits. There are two
different versions.

If you have a 64-bit System, you need to create libv4l for 64-bits and
for 32-bits to get all webcam apps working.

If you use skype, even having 64-bit you need to use 32-bit libs. You
must compile libv4l for both to get complete functionality.

So do the following:
1.- download the source-code of libv4l here:
http://people.atrpms.net/~hdegoede/libv4l-0.5.1.tar.gz

2.- Compile the source-code for a 32-bit system and for a 64 bit-system.
More informationm about cross-compiling.
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=5997445

I did it that way for 32-bits:

export CC="gcc -m32"
export LDFLAGS="-L/usr/lib32"
make
sudo make install

After that you compile this for 64-bits

3.- Use the prepatch (ex.: Skype)
export LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so
skype

I hope it helps you out. At least in my case it did. I had the green
bars in skype too, and I solved it this way.

I have GreenAsia Gamepad (PSX somewhat clone) and it had the same
problem.

I solved it the following way:

1.- open as root /etc/X11/xorg.conf
2.- Add at the begining of the file following lines:

Section "ServerFlags"
Option "AutoAddDevices" "False"
EndSection

3.- Save the file, and restart your system. Yes, better restart the
system or gdm. Killing X with CRTL+ALT+Backspace doesn't read always the
xorg.conf

I don't think so. It's a problem with the croppy screen resolution in
skype and co. If you a CIF Webcam, you should update libv4l to 0.5.1.
I've talked to the author and he solved the problem in this version.

After that, do a LD_PREPATCH.

Check the documentation of libv4l

I'm not sure, if cheese needs libv4l, but if it doesn't work with anyone
of the apps, than it's a problem with the integrated drivers of webcam

Are you able to compile gspca-source? Try, if that works...

Re: [Bug 207072] Re: nautilus does not display samba shares for machines inside an ADS network.

2008-10-11 Thread gerstrong
In my case, the problem still remains. All Samba-Shares even from other
Linux-Computers can be viewed, but all the Shares of Windows-PCs are not
seen. In Konqueror, both can be viewed.

What I don't understand, that it requests the password after entering
into the share, not before browsing to PC. In Konqueror you must type it
when you enter into the Computer to view all the shares, instead of
entering into the share and typing then.

Bug is also in Ubuntu daily-live of october 11th.

Hope that gvfs will be fixed! On Samba workstations, the shares can be
viewed and you can still write manually the direction to enter...

2008-10-11 Thread gerstrong
Good News!

I don't know, if compilation is possible, but my webcam works now in
Ubuntu 8.10 Daily-live CD of October 11th!

I going to check this further.

Please try it!

Kernel is 2.6.27-7!

There is a release of the new kernel! Have fun!

Good work!

[Bug 207072] Konqueror is an option

2008-10-08 Thread gerstrong
Another option would be using konqueror with KDE instead of gnome and
friends for browsing windows shares. I sometimes use konqueror, that
works too.

But I also wish, that this problem gets fixed.

[Bug 273727] Re: gspca does not compile anymore

2008-10-08 Thread gerstrong
I tried to compile it on kernel 2.6.26 patched with 2.6.27.rc9 from
kernel.org and the error message changes, but it still doesn't work. I
will upload the log-file next time. It was something about CC_EXTRAS.

Maybe this hint helps

Look here:

http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/

I would suggest to download and test it on the live-cd. It has most of
the updates included.

There is even a more updated version of hardy (8.04.1 LTS)

[Bug 278292] [NEW] Unbrowseable Samba Shares

2008-10-04 Thread gerstrong
Public bug reported:

All the samba stuff with nautilus works like a charm, except for one
thing. The Windows Shares are not shown. You can access them through the
address-bar, and they get opened and mounted.

Although it is possible to open those shares, it would be nice to get
them browseable again, like it worked in gutsy and other Ubuntu versions
before.
