[Bug 905128] [NEW] Unity 3D test failed when attaching external monitor
Public bug reported: Installed Oneiric Ocelot on an Alpha 32 bit laptop with 16gB memory, Omega 3D Video controller, 4gB Video memory and Omicron screen display with a 640 X 480 native display resolution. Display during installation and post- installation operations went OK. Monitor preferences were adjustable. Then started the system tests. Connected an Epsilon external monitor to the VGA port of the laptop. This resulted in a broken display, which is shown in the attachment problem1.png I could access the 'Monitor Preferences' application to perhaps try different display settings. Power cycled the laptop. The problem persisted. Disconnected the external monitor and power cycled the laptop. The operations were normal in the single monitor mode. Connected the Epsilon monitor to a Zeta 32bit desktop, running Oneiric Ocelot, with Video controller and memory similar to the laptop. The display was OK. No problems were seen with Unity 2D or Nattie Narwhal either. The external monitor could be connected OK. In addition to problem1.png, I have attached the following logs. syslog dmesg kern.log Xorg.0.log messages gconfd.log Note: 1. In the screen capture image, it may be noticed that the width of the offending wide, narrow and dark grey rectangle equals the width of the 'Monitor Preferences' application. So a horizontal shift somewhere in the driver code may rectify the problem. 2. problem may be related to Bug # 830949 ** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/905128 Title: Unity 3D test failed when attaching external monitor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/905128/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 431091] Re: libstdc++5 removal breaks non-ubuntu applications
I did not run into this until now because Karmic had other deal breakers for me. Now that those are gone in Lucid here is an even bigger one. >From the time passed it looks like this is not going to get fixed? There is a real world out there and it is not purple. Some of us have to use software that is one or more of proprietary, binary, and old. No recompile possible. The suggested fix is possible, but that is besides the point. One reason for a comprehensive package management system is to not have to do things like this. Why should I jump through the hoops setup by Mr. Kitterman and Mr. Young when it would have taken one of them less time to package the library instead? After all, libstdc++5 is still in debian testing (eventually to be squeeze) and unstable. Why remove it and not simply leave it in? [Bug 429015] Re: python-visual seg faults even in simple test cases
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 457688 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/457688 I originally filed this bug against 9.04, which predates bug #457688, which first appeared in 9.10. So without any testing I can say for certain this bug is different. None of the reports mention the graphics that are used and hence are quite irrelevant to this bug. This bug never occurred with nvidia graphics enabled. It is of course possible that the problems described here are fixed in Lucid if you get visual to run in the first place, but in this case my bet would be that this is not because of the fix for bug #457688 but rather because of changes elsewhere in Lucid. I'll try to test Lucid if I get around to it but I make no promises. As you noticed I tested this rather exhaustively last summer trying to get 9.10 fixed, but I can't justify putting that much time into this again without receiving any useful feedback. I run several computer labs at a university and they all run debian now because of this bug and #457688. -- python-visual seg faults even in simple test cases https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/429015 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Do not activate proprietary graphics driver.) run test as shown above What happens if one activates proprietary graphics driver (For these tests I used the menu option to install the drivers): No change with ATI/AMD graphics cards. Reproducibility (hardware tested): 6 different computers (2xnvidia graphics, 4x ATI/AMD graphics) 1 Dell, 1 Dell laptop, 1 Lenovo laptop, 3 different custom builds. A third test case has slightly different behavior: Test case 3: Observed outcome ~ $python Python 2.6.2 (release26-maint, Apr 19 2009, 01:58:18) [GCC 4.3.3] on linux2 Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information. >>> from visual import * >>> quit() Segmentation fault Expected outcome: ~ $python Python 2.6.2 (release26-maint, Apr 19 2009, 01:58:18) [GCC 4.3.3] on linux2 Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information. >>> from visual import * >>> quit() ~ $ Test case 3 works on 8.04.3 AND 8.10, but fails on 9.04. Unlike test case 1 and 2 installing proprietary graphics drivers on systems with nvidia graphics does not change the negative outcome. This last error is less severe than the first two, because it happens when exciting the python interpreter. Still it is very annoying. Additional remarks: Same behavior for new upstream version (5.12_release), compiled from source. python-visual is used heavily with novice programmers and a seg fault instead of an error message for a simple syntax error is deadly. python-visual on debian lenny works on all tested hardware. ** Affects: python-visual (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- python-visual seg faults even in simple test cases https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/429015 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 390495] [NEW] Multiple live CDs on same USB stick boots filesystem on incorrect partition
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: casper I wanted to create a multiboot Ubuntu live usb stick so that I can demo the various Ubuntu flavors easily. I partitioned a usb stick and put Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty live CD on one of the primary partitions on it which boots fine using grub, either using the chainloader command or directly booting the kernel and initrd on the partition. I then tried another Ubuntu-based distro (Linux Mint 7 in my case, but I think this problem manifests with the official distros as well) in a larger numbered partition (both physically and logically), but while the kernel boots and the correct splash image was displayed, when the desktop finally comes up it is Jaunty desktop from the first partition, instead of the Linux Mint desktop. ** Affects: casper (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Multiple live CDs on same USB stick boots filesystem on incorrect partition https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/390495 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
