[Bug 49965] Re: dosfsck breaks usplash
ubuntu jaunty, this bug still persists. it is a bug here, as it does not just break usplash (i would not bother) but it forces fsck routine check on every boot-up. annoying.. first i thought it was a disk-error, but several checks on all partitions of this 1year old HDD showed that there is nothing wrong with my disks. Just after 2h fiddling around I came across this page and went right away to switch off fsck-check on my fat32 disk by editing fstab. [Bug 286932] Re: openoffice and skype menus and buttons disappear and reappear hovering over with mouse
i am using now the newest nvidia prop. driver 177.83 from nvidia-site. fresh ibex i installation. openoffice is nearly unusable with compiz enabled. skype got better, but now and than shows some similar symptoms. from my observation this has something to do with non refreshing graphics, so in openoffice, when the progress bar appears in the status-bar, the image of it will remain there and just disappear when moving the window of oo. the same happens with text: if i write something and than i delete it, the deleted text will not disappear. it does so when moving the window of oo. hope this helps somehow.. -- openoffice and skype menus and buttons disappear and reappear hovering over with mouse https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/286932 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 245847] Re: high cpu load cairo-dock (interpid)
hello, to inform you on what i understood is really the case: -on hardy we have a package which we need to run nearly any app on ubuntu called libcairo. this package was compiled with --glitz enabled. glitz renders the graphics through the gpu of your 3d-graphic-card, like nvidia. which means, what costs normally 70% CPU to render zooming .svg, with GPU it is 1000x faster and keeps CPU low at 5%. -now on inteprid, this package libcairo is called libcairo2 and it comes unfortunately without --glitz enabled. so your cairo-dock is not usable or works very slow and slugish. compiling libcairo2 myself with --glitz enabled resulted in cairo-dock being able to run with the option --glitz but there seems something in libcairo2 to be wrong and the rendering looks very bad. i guess that is why it comes now without glitz enabled. hope this helps to look further -- high cpu load cairo-dock (interpid) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/245847 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

the problem is: cairo-dock from ubuntu repo is compiled without glitz. even though depends on glitz libs when installing. this makes cairo-dock unusable, so that is why some people get a cairo-dock repo. than, after installing that version, ibex wants to make an update. unless you lock the version in synaptic. and than it crashes, blablabla and you end up here.. how about compiling cairo-dock for ubuntu-repo with glitz? that would be genius! and great. thx 1000x -- package cairo-dock-data 1.6.2.3-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite `/usr/share/cairo-dock/emblems/charge.svg', which is also in package cairo-dock https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/289484 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 258823] Re: OpenOffice buttons are invisible and reappear when you hover over them
as i understand it from my observations is that the whole application OO will not refresh its graphics. this causes buttons to appear and disappear, but also leaves the process-bar on the status bar once it is ready. to have the satus-bar refreshed, i need to move the OO window around. the same thing goes for deleted text: instead of disappearing, it remains full or half drawn, but once i move the OO-window, it refreshes and the deleted words disappear. hope this helps to find out if this is the same bug when using newest nvidia-driver OR fglrx / with compiz enabled. thx -- OpenOffice buttons are invisible and reappear when you hover over them https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/258823 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

hello, i followed by now more or less the suggestions / links mentioned in this thread: things got better in general. latest updates seem to fix some related stuff too. adding the deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/themuso/ubuntu hardy main to the repo list did update the pulseaudio stuff. nevertheless I am still experiencing some symptoms discribed above: when listening to rhythmbox while browsing the net with firefox, switching fro tab to tab can cause interrupts in playback. anyone experiencing this? -- Over-optimistic buffering in PulseAudio causes underruns (audible stuttering, pops) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/190754 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 190754] Re: Over-optimistic buffering in PulseAudio causes underruns (audible stuttering, pops)
some usb cards NEED asoundrc, otherwise ALSA has no clue how to deal with it. my alesis io|2 worked just with asound configured under ubuntu gutsy but under hardy it goes without. anyway, since hardy i am experiencing a lot aof issues. one of them is rhytmbox in combo with browsing the net with firefox. sound stops for a moment when i switch between tabs inside the browser. Xorg shoots up to 100% CPU for a moment. the funny thing is: its running on a intel 2ghz 2duo, 2gb ram, sony vaio, xubuntu hardy 8.04 64bit, 2.6.24-16-rt. compiz is on. i tried "pulseaudio -k": it is slightly better, but after a while when wild-tabbing inside firefox, rhythmbox will interrupt sound again. viewing "top" reveals dramatic increase of CPU through Xorg up to 100%. on my system is not just rhythmbox that stutters: if u use brasero and burn a cd while watching a film or listen to music in any player everything will shutter, spit and chopp till cd burning is finished. compiz-animations are than affected, too. again viewing "top" reveals dramatic usage of CPU of Xorg by 100%. my guess is that we are dealing here not just with one bug. changing buffersizes is like opium for tooth-pain, it minimizes the symptoms but does not fix the cause(s). it might be linked to some changes / bugs that came together -in the kernel, -in ubuntu hardy -in pulseaudio -gstreamer -in Xserver -in compiz ?? where should i start? -- Over-optimistic buffering in PulseAudio causes underruns (audible stuttering, pops) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/190754 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 173517] Re: ubuntu gutsy 7.10 / compiz / second xscreen / no keyboard
i'm sure this is a bug, the keyboard should not be claimed. and the other bug is that nobody who uses compiz on gnome seems to use keyboard on second xscreen .. :) but to be sure: your keyboard works on second xscreen when compiz disabled? perhaps we should spam our bug-report to attract some attention on similiar bug-reports... 0_O marriouss wrote: > Yes, I use GNOME (ubuntu). > I have noticed that the keyboard seem to be "claimed" by one of the screens. > So, if initially is claimed by the first screen, when I'm making the smplayer > fullscreen, then the second screen claims the keyboard. [Bug 173517] Re: ubuntu gutsy 7.10 / compiz / second xscreen / no keyboard
marrious, hello, thanks for your advice, actually it has the same effect as the temporary solution i mentioned above, but it was worth trying it. are you using GNOME-desktop? i heard that it is a GNOME issue, not KDE, but i cannot confirm this. In the mean-time, i installed and configured Fluxbox for my live-video-performances, its a great, very light window-manager,, after login you count not even 1 second and your desktop is ONLINE! It does not work with compiz but is lightning fast and no problems with second xscreen, of course. so for now i go like this: -GNOME-environment for daily use and watch tv in same conditions like you described, FLUXBOX for serious stuff. it is a pitty that nobody seems to care about keyboard access to second xscreen under GNOME/Compiz/Emerald... i cannot believe that you and me are the only nurds complaining about this! bye -- ubuntu gutsy 7.10 / compiz / second xscreen / no keyboard https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/173517 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 173517] Re: ubuntu gutsy 7.10 / compiz / second xscreen / no keyboard
well, i followed your comment above (update1, the weird part) and this will not work for me... so, my second screen stays "useless", unless i switch off compiz. it means: with metacity, gtk-window-decorator enabled and compiz disabled, everything works perfect... /ubuntu/7.10/nvidia/6600go/laptop to at least (with two xscreens) have primary screen work nice with compiz and emerald, menus working normal etc I wrote a "script" :) that goes on gdm start-up : #!/bin/bash #switch between compiz 2 screens or 1 screen VIDEOCARD1=`/bin/cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log |grep -c TV-0` VIDEOCARD2=`/bin/cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log |grep -c CRT-0` if [ "$VIDEOCARD1" = 0 ] && [ "$VIDEOCARD2" = 0 ]; then sleep 0 else TWINVIEW=`/bin/cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf |grep -c TWINVIEW` fi if [ "$TWINVIEW" = 0 ]; then sleep 3 compiz --replace --only-current-screen & emerald --replace & else sleep 0 fi basically what it does is: checks if any second monitor is attached to my laptop. than if not, nothing happens, if yes, it checks if i have a xorg.conf for twinview. if so: nothing happens cause there, compiz works fine on both screens. if not twinview xorg.conf, than it will do this: compiz --replace --only-current-screen & emerald --replace & this two little lines i found in the ubuntu forum. when applying them, first screen works fine, but second screen not. well, at least i can use now the second screen to watch a film on the TV-monitor, while first screen behaves normal. but to perform with veejay i have to switch off compiz, as i need the keyboard to control video on second screen. i dont use twinview for video on second screen, as the quality gets bad there: the well-known horizontal split-line in the middle of the screen; xscreen-setup in xorg allows me to pass an exact modeline for PAL-TV, witch makes video look correct again (no horizontal split). to be honest, i dont care if compiz works when I'm performing with live video, but it would be schick, of course, to show off, 0-o perhaps all this information helps!? -- ubuntu gutsy 7.10 / compiz / second xscreen / no keyboard https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/173517 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1] Re: Microsoft has a majority market share
well, i agree on bug nr 1. microsoft. i work a lot with video-editing-suits for professional use and its frustrating to still have to boot on windows to run premiere pro or aftereffects. mac has a better feeling than windows but ubuntu feels like home and it made wonderful improvements. everything works smooth and barely hangs. plus all the other super-top-features. if there would be some kind of commercial software market for the "middle-class" linux freelance video-editors or artists, that would help a lot. so i will have to live double lives, windows and mac for professional audio/video-editing, linux for all the rest: internet, experimenting, vj, daily-use, etc... :( -- Microsoft has a majority market share https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
