[Bug 282053] Re: Wireless devices get always set to 1 Mb/s

2009-02-22 Thread hyper_ch
It still happens in 8.10 stable. However I did now set a start up script
that will set it to 54mbps - but that's not really a solution.

[Bug 360365] Re: udev rules 60-persistent-storage.rules not "enabled"

2009-04-27 Thread hyper_ch
Hmmm, when I reported this bug I was using alpha 6 or beta. Tried to
reproduce it in a VM but there wasn't any 60- rule. Just a 70- one.

So what I did now in the VM is the following:

I edited /etc/udev/rules.d/60-persistent-storage.rules

and added the attached rules.

The one in /lib/udev/rules.d60-persistent-storage.rules didn't help. I
had to use the one attached.

As long as don't have the attacked rules in /etc/udev/rules.d then
ubuntu will not offer to mount the memory cards of my the SE C905
cellphone.

[Bug 360365] [NEW] udev rules 60-persistent-storage.rules not "enabled"

2009-04-13 Thread hyper_ch
Public bug reported:

I tried to hook up my Sony Ericsson C905 cellphone to my computer in
order to move a few things around. The telephone mode and the other one
(2nd from top) prompted in Kubuntu recently plugged in device plasmoid
to pop up and offered to start digiKam. This works fine as I can
transfer videos and pictures that way.

However the usb-storage mode didn't just work. dmesg outputted lots and
lots of the following lines:

[343476.308823] sd 5:0:0:0: [sde] Sense Key : No Sense [current]
[343476.308832] sd 5:0:0:0: [sde] Add. Sense: No additional sense information

[343476.337578] sd 5:0:0:1: [sdf] Add. Sense: No additional sense information

What I needed to do is to copy the "60-persistent-storage.rules" in
/etc/udev/rules.d to "60-persistent-storage" and reboot.

I think this problem can occur in other cellphones also and it's
probably better to have them enabled by default.

[Bug 159611] xubuntu openoffice

2007-11-02 Thread hyper_ch
Public bug reported:

The OpenOffice.org applications menu entries are bugged in Xubuntu.

The default entry in the desktop file looks like:

Exec=ooffice -writer %U

Xfce does not support options after the command so it should be altered
to:

Exec="ooffice -writer %U"

Otherwise you don't start the desired application directly but an
intermediate menu where you then can create a new file and select the
correct application.

[Bug 179179] Hardy doesn't boot with encrypted filesystem

2007-12-29 Thread hyper_ch
Public bug reported:

Well, after some serious issue with my gutsy system I thought I might
give Hardy a try. I know it's still alpha but I had good experience with
feisty, so I thought why not try.

Well, it seems the hardy has some serious issues with - at least - my
cd/dvd drive BENQ DVD DD DW1620. I couldn't get to boot the DesktopCD at
all, it failed. Also the alternate install cd had some issues. Upon
detecting the cd-drive I had to recheck it 3 times before it was
actually recognised.

Once I setup the encrypted drive and stuff and tried to reboot, I just
get this error message:

[ 59.xxx] hdc: drive not ready for command

This error message appears multiple time on the screen and then nothing
works anymore. I don't even get as far as to provide the password for
the encrypted drive.

However if I leave the drive unencrypted or if I unplug the cd/dvd drive
I can boot Hardy.

I'm running now 2.6.24-15-generic kernel and it works again. DVD drive

Btw Cyrus Jones : Why do you mark it as "incomplete" and not solved?

Not sure if that is the same bug.

I currently run feisty (kernel 2.6.20-14) and try to setup dm-crypt /
LUKS

So far I did jitter my harddisk with sudo dd if=/dev/urandom of=/dev/hda

Then I did install cryptsetup --> sudo apt-get install cryptsetup
hashalot

Then I created a 160 GB partition: cfdisk /dev/hda

Then I loaded the kernel modules:
sudo modprobe aes dm-crypt dm_mod

Then I tried to setup LUKS

cryptsetup --verbose --verify-passphrase luksFormat /dev/hda1

but I only get this output:

I even loaded the ase-i586 module but that didn't change anything...

I'm not sure if this belongs in here also.

[Bug 108497] The sysinfo script in Konvesation in Feisty does not display the diskspace anymore

2007-04-21 Thread hyper_ch
Public bug reported:

The sysinfo script in Konversation (running it within Konvi with
/sysinfo) does not show the the diskspace (used and total) anymore.

The script, located at /usr/share/apps/konversation/scripts/sysinfo can
be fixed with various ways:

(1) install gawk

or better

(2)

Changing the part from:

HDD=$(df -l| awk '($1~/dev/){
  use+=$3/1024**2;
  tot+=$2/1024**2;
 }
 END{print "HD: " int(use) "/" int(tot) "GB"}')

to

HDD=$(df -l| awk '($1~/dev/){
  use+=$3/1024^2;
  tot+=$2/1024^2;
 }
 END{print "HD: " int(use) "/" int(tot) "GB"}')

The upstream of konversation has already applied the second option by
using POSIX power of '^' instead of "**".

[Bug 224969] [NEW] /dev/sdX changes

2008-04-30 Thread hyper_ch
Public bug reported:

Hi

I just reinstalled Kubuntu Hardy (been using it before since Alpha 3)
and I also replaced one of my IDE drives.

So, after the fresh install the disk I booted from was assigned
/dev/sdc. That stayed for a little while and suddenly this evening it
changed to /dev/sda. That gave me quite some headaches as I did encrypt
all my partitions and it gave some errors that the orginial /dev/sda
couldn't be found anymore (or rather is not a valid LUKS partition).

Anyway, I noticed now that upon boot it sometimes changes between
/dev/sdc and /dev/sda. The drive I boot from is a SATA drive and the one
it changes the designation is a IDE drive.

I attach a screen shot with it now where the drive is currently assigned
/dev/sdc tomorrow (or so) after 2-3 reboots I will then attach a
different screen shot where it will be /dev/sda

Linux xubi 2.6.27-7-generic #1 SMP Fri Oct 10 03:55:01 UTC 2008 x86_64

and I noticed that wifi devices always get set to a rate of 1 Mb/s. I
think this also happens on hardy. I have in several support threads
asked where people have problems with their internet connection.

[Bug 298850] [NEW] Unable to install a fully encrypted system with Raid (1)

2008-11-16 Thread hyper_ch
Public bug reported:

For business reasons I need to (a) encrypt a full install and (b) setup
raid 1 so that in case one harddrive fails it can be replaced without
(much) downtime.

Before I attempt this on a real server I tested this with vmware
workstation 6.5 in Kubuntu 8.10.

My strategy was to

- install a 8.10 server edition (because of the samba package version)

- manually partition the drives (in the vm both are 5 GB)

- use 200 mb in sda for the /boot partition

- use the rest on sda and the full sdb drive for a / partition which
will be on raid 1

- then encrypt that raid 1

On this image you can see, that I selected sda2 and sdb1 partition to be
a raid device: http://www.sjau.ch/raid-encryption/1_Selection.png

Here you can see the whole partition layout (incl. the encrypted raid
1): http://www.sjau.ch/raid-encryption/2_Partitions.png

After having been told that I use a weak password (for the test setup I
just used "test") and for not having swap (I also tried with swap and
with encrypted swap and also with a raided /boot and raided encrypted
swap) the rest of the system installed fine.

After reboot I get dropped into busybox: http://www.sjau.ch/raid-
encryption/3_Bootfailure.png

After advice from jdong I tried to manually mount the encrypted
partition to access the initramfs-tool scripts. So I went to /dev,
issued ls to see if the raid device (md0) is there. So I then tried to
mount that one, however the password is not accepted: http://www.sjau.ch
/raid-encryption/4_Cryptofailure.png

I have no further idea of how to continue and get an encrypted raid1
setup working. Preferrably it would be to add one more level of
comlexity: encrypted raid1 lvm setup.

I hope this can be fixed.

Then I tried Debian Lenny and on that the raid1 + encryption works fine.

[Bug 287672] [NEW] gpg-agent.conf was not created

2008-10-22 Thread hyper_ch
Public bug reported:

I'm using Kubuntu Ibex 8.10 beta and Kontact (kdepim).

I have been unable to sign/encrypt messages. I always got strange error
message. Upon asking in the #kontact channel I was led to the gpg-
agent.conf file. This one was not created in my ~/gnupg folder.

Once I manually created it with this content

pinentry-program /usr/bin/pinentry-qt4
no-grab
default-cache-ttl 1800

and after I logged out and back in again, it works now.

Question still remains, why it was not created.

[Bug 263837] Re: VMWare Server on kernel 2.6.27-2-generic: cannot compile vmmon module

2008-10-20 Thread hyper_ch
Yeah, kang's patch works fine on *buntu 8.10 using the 2.6.27-7-generic
kernel and vmware server 1.0.7.

Basically, download the vmware server, install it, but don't configure
it yet.

Then download the patch by kang, extract it and run the runme.pl as
sudo. It will replace the "faulty" modules and then start the server
configuration :)

Thx

For those that still have problems, run:

ldd /usr/bin/skype

And check out what files are missing.

Then use "apt-file" to find the according package:

sudo apt-get install apt-file
sudo apt-file update
apt-file search FILENAME

Then go to http://packages.ubuntu.com/
Set the searching for Ibex
Enter the package name
Download the i386 version and extract and copy the content to /usr/lib32/

2008-09-22 Thread hyper_ch
Hmmm, libqt4-dbus was added for me... I guess some other package must
have done it. Thx Till :)

For those that still have problems, run:

ldd /usr/bin/skype

And check out what files are missing.

Then use "apt-file" to find the according package:

sudo apt-get install apt-file
sudo apt-file update
apt-file search FILENAME

Then go to http://packages.ubuntu.com/
Set the searching for Ibex
Enter the package name
Download the i386 version and extract and copy the content to /usr/lib32/

[Bug 263837] Re: VMWare Server on kernel 2.6.27-2-generic: cannot compile vmmon module

2008-10-20 Thread hyper_ch
Yeah, kang's patch works fine on *buntu 8.10 using the 2.6.27-7-generic
kernel and vmware server 1.0.7.

Basically, download the vmware server, install it, but don't configure
it yet.

Then download the patch by kang, extract it and run the runme.pl as
sudo. It will replace the "faulty" modules and then start the server
configuration :)

Thx

[Bug 287672] [NEW] gpg-agent.conf was not created

2008-10-22 Thread hyper_ch
Public bug reported:

I'm using Kubuntu Ibex 8.10 beta and Kontact (kdepim).

I have been unable to sign/encrypt messages. I always got strange error
message. Upon asking in the #kontact channel I was led to the gpg-
agent.conf file. This one was not created in my ~/gnupg folder.

Once I manually created it with this content

pinentry-program /usr/bin/pinentry-qt4
no-grab
default-cache-ttl 1800

and after I logged out and back in again, it works now.

Question still remains, why it was not created.

[Bug 159611] xubuntu openoffice

2007-11-02 Thread hyper_ch
Public bug reported:

The OpenOffice.org applications menu entries are bugged in Xubuntu.

The default entry in the desktop file looks like:

Exec=ooffice -writer %U

Xfce does not support options after the command so it should be altered
to:

Exec="ooffice -writer %U"

Otherwise you don't start the desired application directly but an
intermediate menu where you then can create a new file and select the
correct application.

And a diff file is presented here:

Although the Icon= changes can be skipped - they won't be needed. That's to

I hope this can be fixed.

that will set it to 54mbps - but that's not really a solution.

As long as don't have the attacked rules in /etc/udev/rules.d then
ubuntu will not offer to mount the memory cards of my the SE C905
cellphone.

Ok, I just booted again into hardy.

and those "fixes" work

sudo hdparm -w /dev/hdc
sudo hdparm -d1 /dev/hdc

the -w1 was wrong...

Could this be automated with a start-up script in /etc/init.d and link
it to the standard startup levels?

[Bug 192432] [NEW] kontact crashes (on kmail)

2008-02-16 Thread hyper_ch
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kmail

Kubuntu Hardy Heron using KDE 3.5.8.

Kontact crashes after a little while after it has been started - it's still
trying to check all IMAP mail accounts and akreggator is checking the rss feeds.

The KDE Crash handler returns this:
