[Bug 1307144] Re: 'unredirect fullscreen windows' causes tearing

2014-10-28 Thread ib
Moved to Mint 17 (xfce4). Still, the Nvidia driver is not perfect on my
ASUS V3-771G (GeForce GT 650M), but works great with my main workstation
using Nvidia GTX770.

I'm not using Nvidia on my laptop but the primary Intel GPU.

Lost my hopes Ubuntu will ever fix this long lasting problems with
Nvidia drivers...

[Bug 1307144] Re: 'unredirect fullscreen windows' causes tearing

2014-10-17 Thread ib
I had to switch permanently to Intel GPU. Nvidia driver makes the system
unusable for daily use. Such a shame.

Sadly, Ubuntu 12.04 (in early phase using Bumblebee) was smooth. With
each Ubuntu upgrade my problems gets bigger and bigger using the same HW
base.

Maybe time to improve testing acceptance procedures before major
releases  ??

Ubuntu 14.04, latest updates, latest Nvidia driver, MSI Gaming G45 MB,
i7 4470k CPU, Nvidia GTX770, most annoying flickering in terminal, some
other applications also affected. VLC runs w/o problems.

System is almost unusable for any serious work :-(

[Bug 1023215] [NEW] HDMI Sound intermittent buzz / fast popping (depending on source)

2012-07-10 Thread ib...@yahoo.com
Public bug reported:

I've had problems with sound from the very begining, but on 11.04 it was
semi-working. MythTV and Huludesktop worked, and that's all that really
mattered (this is a home theater PC). I think I got it working at the
time by messing around with .asoundrc and having it resample everything
to 48000kHz. MP3s still didn't sound right when played through
RhythmBox, but I never used that.

However, after upgrading to 12.04 the problem is back despite the
.asoundrc not being overwritten.

When playing mp3s or watching Huludesktop, the sound is fair, but not
good. It sounds thin and every 10-12 seconds there is this metallic
buzz.

When playing movies in MythTV, I get nothing but this horrible fast
popping noise.

The motherboard is a P7H57D-V Evo. The MythTV hardware profile states
that I'm using a 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition Audio.

[Bug 1023215] Re: HDMI Sound intermittent buzz / fast popping (depending on source)

2012-07-10 Thread ib...@yahoo.com
Update: Ok, so somewhere along the lines the device numbers in aplay
changed. I'm really not sure when this happened, but it resolved the
issue with MythTV (went in and changed my Audio settings to device 7 and
now that works).

So the only remaining problem is with stuff outside of mythtv: and in
particular Huludesktop (the only thing I really use besides MythTV).

It sounds ok, but it gives this metallic buzz sound every 10-12 seconds
of playback.

Thanks!

[Bug 1023215] Re: HDMI Sound intermittent buzz / fast popping (depending on source)

2012-07-10 Thread ib...@yahoo.com
Update: Music sounds great through MythTV, but the same audio file does
the intermittent buzz through Rhythmbox. As a result, I thought it may
be helpful if I post the information from the MythTV Audio Setup:

Audio output device: ALSA:dmix:CARD=Intel,DEV=7
Digital Audio Capabilities:
Yes = Dolby Digital
Yes = DTS
No = E-AC-3
No = TrueHD
No = DTS=HD

Speaker configuration: Stereo (making this 5.1 brings back the horrible popping
noise)
Advanced Audio Settings:
Yes = Overrid SRA quality. Sample rate conversion: Best
No = Force audio device output to 48kHz
No = SPDIF 48kHz rate override
No = Separate digital output device
Yes = HBR passthrough support
No = Stereo PCM Only

Audio Mixer
Yes = Use internal volume controls
Mixer device: software
Mixer controls: PCM
Master mixer volume = 70
PCM mixer volume = 70

[Bug 43830] Re: Remove evolution-exchange from ubuntu-desktop

2008-01-21 Thread IB
I completely agree. The current setup makes it impossible to fully
remove evolution, even if you have no need for it. I understand why the
component is there, but there should be an option to remove it if you
won't use the feature.
