[Bug 240146] [NEW] Login screen text
Public bug reported: This is a fresh install of Ubuntu 8.04 on a Compaq, and the login screen seems to be using this giant (like 72 point font or greater) to type the letters/numbers for the user name and the bullets for the password. It works, but you can't see anything you type. It's like you're looking through a mail-slot on your front door trying to read letters that measure 3 feet tall each. FIX IS BELOW FYI. The fix of disabling and enabling desktop effects worked for me. I have an Intel Integrated graphics card. Steps to Fix: 1. Click System>Preferences>Appearance 2. Click Visual Effects tab 3. Select the None radio button You should see everything return to normal at this point 4. Select the radio button for either of the visual effect settings at this point (if you choose) Everything should look ok after a few seconds of the system enabling the effects UPDATE This only fixed the problem until I restarted, at which point it returned. I have managed to fix it permanently however. This is what I did: 1. sudo gedit /etc/gdm/gdm.conf 2. find the section [server-Standard] in that file 3. You should see a line that says "-command=/usr/bin/X -br -audit 0". Change it to read "-command=/usr/bin/X -br -audit 0 -dpi 96". 4. Save, quit, and restart You should be good to go now. [Bug 137745] Re: compiz can only used by one user
Just having a think about this problem, it should be given some a reasonably high priority to be fixed!! 1st reason is Ubuntu (dell) sell laptop / desktops, with Intel open source drivers installed, Its not expectable if you buy a pc and there is a major driver issue like this (this issue needs to be fixed, i cant tell friends to buy ubuntu desktop / laptops if only 1 person can user the machine, then have to reboot, then another person can use it) - not acceptable, user wont buy the product 2nd can potentially can effect ubuntu desktop sales 3rd reason, is that Ubuntu (linux in general) works on older machine much better than new hardware does, if desktop effects can be enable (it shouldn't have such a major flaw in the drivers) -- compiz can only used by one user https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/137745 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

There isnt a error, it just simply doesnt load if fast user switch The version is 0.3.1, it didnt work in version 0.2.1 My guess of what is causing it, is that if you fast user switch it doesn't create a new 3d session, or clear out the exist one -- AWN - after fast user switching https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/201919 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
