I've do some research today about this problem as I find it really annoying. On my side the problem wasn't solved in Jaunty. Rythmbox or Tomet was using 17% of the CPU. My research lead my to alsa. [Bug 334344] Re: wishlist: integrate libnotify in Thunderbird notifications
Hi All, I thing I have to give some explanation here. >I think it works with both Firefox and Thunderbird, the idea being you can >install it in Firefox to get >Download complete" and such notifications. Yep, at the beginning, the add-ons as create in the need for Thunderbird and Firefox. Now that firfox team move on. I don't plan to work on Add- on for Firefox. In fact, I'm working with Thunderbird team to put the notification feature upstream instead of a add-on. But I alway find Thunderbird team work slowly. So I write the add-on. > I also noticed that the extension was uploaded as a Firefox extension although it's for Thunderbird Yep, and I don't understand why. The add-on setting doesn't include support for firefox. > Anyways, my complaint is that, with Thunderbird, it likes to notify when new > junk mail arrives. This > doesn't happen with Thunderbird's regular notifier. Yep, I run into this problem. I think I fix it know. In fact, it's only happen for IMAP account (in my case). > Yes, it seems you get a notification every time something has been added in a > folder, regardless of > which folder and if it's a new mail or if you just moved the email. It's been fix in trunk. I'm gonna release a new version very soon. Because I don't want to release a new version every week. I'm waiting a bit to see if there is any more problem to solved. Next version should include most of the fix (junk mail, move mail, encoding, etc.). [Bug 355300] Re: Thinkpad Z61m: volume controls control both main and hardware mixer
I see many comment like : There should be only one master mixer. I need to disagree. As a ThinkPad user, I use my Thinkpad with a dock station. It's would not make any sense to have only one master because it's will control two different output : laptop speaker and dockstation output. On a ThinkPad dock station there is an audio output that are not control by the hardware mixer, so you need the Software mixer to do the job (like many other desktop computer). It's really useful when you have an external amplifier. In this case, you need the hardware mixer to mute the laptopn speaker. In other way, using a dock station, you may not have an external amplifier, so you need to change the volume using the hardware mixer. I think the best it to keep everythink like it's work now, but display a nodification when the hardware volume are change (using a different icon) AND increase the software volume when the hardware volum is at the maximum leve. Here the scenario describing the expected behavior that should fit every body needs. Scenario 1 - Using laptop without dock 1.1 User want to increase the volume, so he press the volume up key on laptop 1.2a The system increase the hardware volume if it's not at the maximum level (14) 1.2b The system display a notification for hardware volume (plz use a different icon ). 1.2c The system increase the software volume if the hardware volume is at the maximum level 1.2d The system display a notification for software volume. 1.3 User want to decrease the volume, so he press the volume down key on laptop. 1.4a The system decrease the harware volume only. 1.4b The system display a notification for hardware volume (plz use a different icon ). 1.5 User want to increase the volume, so he press the volume up key on it's external keyboard or external mouse. 1.6a The system increase the hardware volume if it's not at the maximum level (14) - I think this one can be hard to achieved, but less people care about this one. 1.6b The system increase the software volume if the hardware volume is at the maximum level Scenario 2 - Using laptop on dock station As it's not possible to detect if the audio ouput on the dockstation is use, we expect it to be use. 2.1 User press the volum key on laptop 2.2b Only the hardware volume are change 2.2b The system display a notification for hardware volume (plz use a different icon ). 2.3 User press the volum key on external keyboard or mouse 2.4 The system display a notification for software volume (plz use a different icon ). [Bug 358134] [NEW] NumLock are not sync with the real status on ThinkPad T43
Public bug reported: The problem is very simple. What ever I change the NumLock status by pressing 'Shift' + 'ScrLock' as is supposed to work on ThinkPad T43, the light identifying the num lock status doesn't change in some context. To give a good explanation of the problem I identify 6 different scenarios. Each of them have been run with different parameters and so are the result. For each scenario, I define 2 parameters : With external keyboard : define if I use an external keyboard or not BIOS Setting set to: Define the BIOS settings. In the ThikPad BIOS is possible to define the behavior of the NumLock. Two options are available 'Synchronized' and 'Independent'. Here the definition of each of them : - Independent : Thinkpad NumLock can be disabled independently of the NumLock state on external keyboard. If ThinkPad NumLock is enabled, the external keyboard NumLk will also be enabled. - Synchronized : Thinkpad NumLock and NumLock on an external keyboard are synchronized. x.1) In safe mode drop in a root shell x.2) In login screen (gdm) or gnome as the behavior is alway the same. Scenario #1 With external keyboard: No BIOS Setting set to : Synchronized 1.1) Work as expected. Can switch NumLock status. Can switch from letters and numbers. 1.2) NumLock are not in sync. The NumLock light doesn't change. Can switch from letters and numbers. Scenario #2 With external keyboard: Yes (PS2 on dock-station or USB) BIOS Setting set to : Synchronized 2.1) Can switch NumLock on external keyboard. Can switch from letters and numbers on external keyboard. The laptop's keyboard cannot insert numbers. The laptop's keyboard cannot change the NumLock status. (I don't consider this behavior as a bug as there is an external keyboard to do it.) 2.2) Same as 1.1 Scenario #3 With external keyboard: No BIOS Setting set to : Synchronized 3.1) Work as expected. Can switch NumLock status. Can swtich from inserting letters to number. 3.2) Can switch NumLock status. Cannot insert numbers ! It's inserting letter or move the mouse. Scenario #4 With external keyboard: Yes (PS2 on dock-station or USB) BIOS Setting set to : Synchronized 4.1) Work as expected. Can switch NumLock status on external keyboard. Can swtich NumLock status on laptop. Every opperation are consistent 4.2) Nothing are in sync. More I play with it, more I get confused. It's switch between inserting number, inserting letters ans moving mouse. There is absolutly no logic with the NumLock ligth being on or off. Hum, I should mention the plugin doesn't replace the default notification of thunderbird. I didn't manage to do it. [Bug 87122] Re: [needs-packaging] iFolder
Hi Jean Roberto Souza, If you look for something with similar feature (multi-user, versionning, web interface, auto-sync, backup, cross-platform, userfriendly, etc.), there is some alternative, but most of those are not free or open source... Because we don't have the budget to invest in such solution, we deploy some tool to satisfy our needs. It's provide something very similar to iFolder, but with higher maintenance effort. So I don't suggest you to do the same if you have a big user group. Here the solution : I deploy Unison on a dedicated server. - For more security, user synchronize files using ssh protocol only. - Authentication to the server are done by openssh-server. - The username and password are verify by Pam using LDAP (we already have a LDAP server, so it's easier to reuse this server. If you don't you can manage your user using the default user-group management system of Ubuntu). - The user's home location are determined using the username (e.g. /data/unison/%username/) - Each user are locked into it's own directory I provide a WebAccess to the file. - On the same dedicated server, I install apache2. - To avoid any development, I reuse the module 'autoindex' to display a list of file. - Authentication to the HTTP server are done by appache - Username and password are verify using LDAP - Each user are locked into it's own directory - I was looking for a way to upload file to the server using a .cgi or .pl script but it's didn't have enought time to investigate. - For better look-and-feel, I configure autoindex to use a costomized CSS and icons. To provide a versionning (I didn't deploy it): - It's possible to use a backup too that run every night .. The best would be to provide a solution with a product like SNV or bazaard. It's need some investigation. To provide autosync - I run in a cronjob the execution of Unison in a batch mode. In some case (advance user), I disable the job. So far, the complain I have come from the fact that Unison is not user friendly and I agree with this users. Unison really need a revamp. I try my self to do it, but the programing langage is ocaml. I don't have any experience with it and a binding with python or Java seams impossible. ** Attachment added: "Screenshot of web interface" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/24362468/autoindex-Screenshot.png -- [needs-packaging] iFolder https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/87122 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

@mgrover Of what I know, you need to compile this package yourself. A while ago I write some documentation to compile iFolder on gusty and Feisty. It's should work with minor modification on Hardy. Here the link https://help.ubuntu.com/community/iFolder. I invite you to modify this documentation if it's not working properly. I confirm the problem. I have a ThinkPad T43 (2668-95U) with a Atheros AR5212 WiFi card. I can connect to some WiFi network without problem. There is NetWork (at Univercity) that I connect to but are not available (can't access the Web).
