[Bug 585923] Re: [gm45] xserver completely freezes each time when executing paraview
I am having the same problem when running any graphics intense program on 2.6.35-24-generic kernel, Maverick. I am able to switch to a TTY (albeit very slowly, and the TTY is being spammed with that error). However, even after running `sudo restart gdm' I cannot get to a functional GUI - black screen. I tried updating to xorg-edgers PPA; however, these new drivers leave me not able to start Compiz and the window list, gnome-workspace, and Show desktop panel applets crash. I have to stop the program wnck-applet because it is taking up a lot of processing power due to what seems to be an infinite loop of creating new windows that say Starting ... When I switch to TTY with the xorg-edgers drivers, I get the same log output as previously mentioned (hangcheck timer elapsed, render head ctl reset to 0). I would really appreciate a fix to this bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/585923 Title: [gm45] xserver completely freezes each time when executing paraview -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 642825] [NEW] [i915] Maverick GPU hang when using many 3d effects
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel This bug is similar to Bug #73, but I am posting a new bug because I have slightly different log outputs and a different cause for the problem. Whenever I run a program that uses the GPU heavily, such as programs that use OpenGL, I will get a GPU hang within a few seconds. The issue seems to be related with how hard the GPU is working because I was able to also get the problem when I moved around some tabs very quickly in Chromium browser. One program that was able to reproduce the problem was 3D Virtual Creature Evolution under OpenGL rendering mode in Wine. When the bug occurs, the display freezes up and I can move the mouse only very slowly and choppily. It does not freeze up the whole system since I am able to switch to a console and stop gdm. (This does not cause the problem to stop. I have to reboot.) When I switch to the console, I get lines that spam the terminal with: [118225.108016] [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU hung [118225.108186] [drm:i915_do_wait_request] *ERROR* i915_do_wait_request returns -5 (awaiting 2803178 at 2803174) I am not sure which files to attach so feel free to ask me to attach more. [Bug 578076] [NEW] gtk-window-decorator does not follow CCSM alpha blur window rules
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: compiz When using compizconfig-settings-manager to enable Blur Window, I set alpha blur to only work based on this window rule: 'class=notification | class=Docky'. However, when I set transparency to 50% on any window such as a terminal, I can see that the titlebar is blurring text beneath it. This goes against my window rule to only work on notify-osd popups and the Docky bar. To fix this, I set /apps/gwd/blur_type to 'none' since I do not want titlebar blurring at any time. However, other users may want titlebar blurring based on window rules so I believe this is a bug. Attached is a screenshot of the titlebar of a terminal blurring when it should not be. [Bug 577233] [NEW] Ralink 2800 STA wireless driver - not enabled by default
Public bug reported: I don't think this bug has anything to do with a specific package, but Ubuntu in general with how it detects which wireless driver to use. My wireless adapter is a Rosewill RNX-EasyN1 with a Ralink 2870STA chipset and uses driver rt2870sta. Every time I install Ubuntu, I have to rmmod the wireless module 'rt2800usb' and modprobe 'rt2870sta'. I hope to have this papercut fixed by setting the default driver for wireless cards with 2870sta chipsets, but I'm not sure how exactly Ubuntu goes about doing this. [Bug 447747] Re: karmic - mountall fails to mount filesystem on boot
I don't remember much anymore because I had to overwrite that Karmic installation to write up some papers for school. I did manage to get some pictures from my phone of my boot messages though. Beginning of the errors, starts below the CHICONY Keyboard line - http://i36.tinypic.com/4qfseg.jpg Further down in the boot sequence - http://i34.tinypic.com/4izh54.jpg I pressed ctrl+alt+del to add those messages below the 'Starting init crypto disks...' line - http://i36.tinypic.com/333bf9c.jpg Sorry I don't have better images, but this is all I have to recall. -- karmic - mountall fails to mount filesystem on boot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/447747 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 441303] Re: Driver (rt2870) and usbcore error messages during boot process
I can help you fix both of these problems in one fell swoop because I just installed my rt2870sta-based wireless card yesterday. To get Internet access, you must blacklist the rt2800usb driver. This allows the rt2870sta driver to work. You won't get any of those error messages anymore because the module isn't being loaded. I actually was just having issues with the 'driver already registered, aborting...' messages as well, and I just fixed it. I had entered 'rt2870sta' to the end of my /etc/modules file and this ended up being the problem. Remove any entry for 'rt2870sta' from your /etc/modules and those related error messages should disappear. -- Driver (rt2870) and usbcore error messages during boot process https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/441303 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

@Dave North: No, this problem occurred for me on my stock 2.6.31-11, -12, and -13 kernels. By the way I had to reinstall Ubuntu because I needed to use the computer for school. [Bug 447747] Re: karmic - mountall fails to mount filesystem on boot
I followed the steps on http://upstart.ubuntu.com/wiki/OMGBroken up to the part where I booted into Ubuntu and got into an emergency bash shell. I'm not sure if i need to start any services with 'start xyz'. I'm not that experienced with Linux yet. I tried just running 'exec /sbin/upstart' but I was returned with 'command not found'. I ran 'ls /sbin' and found that there is no file named upstart, but there is upstart-dev-bridge. I tried 'exec /sbin /upstart-dev-bridge' and got a connection refused error again. So then I tried just running the command 'mountall --debug' and got the same error: - # mountall --debug mountall: Could not connect to Upstart: Failed to connect to socket /com/ubuntu/upstart: Connection refused - I'm not sure if this is normal or not, but I tried editing my /etc/fstab because I got errors about not having an ending newline, so I tried to 'echo \n /etc/fstab' and I was returned with an error that said my filesystem was read-only. Could this be the reason I cannot boot? [Bug 447747] Re: karmic - mountall fails to mount filesystem on boot
I had a little help in #ubuntu+1 on Ubuntu's IRC, no luck but at least I have a bit more info: I attached my fstab. I commented out my ntfs partitions to see if that was the issue, but it doesn't look that way. I haven't modified my fstab for a long while and it's worked fine. [Bug 447747] [NEW] karmic - mountall fails to mount filesystem on boot
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mountall I ran a daily update in Karmic and then restarted my computer. Ubuntu tried to boot up but it gets stuck at a cannot mount filesystem error. I thought it may have been a problem with the new kernel I installed but I tried my old one and it still occurred. Ubuntu won't even boot in recovery mode. Now I'm in a LiveUSB to be able to use my computer and submit this bug. I asked for help in the IRC server and one user told me that this was a problem with the mountall package. My apologies if I filed this under the wrong package. [Bug 430694] Re: agpgart-intel not loaded before drm sometimes, causes KMS to fail
Definitely not fixed for me, my bug is this bug #430876 . Since updating yesterday I have completely lost access to /dev/dri devices.
