[Bug 1654632] Re: xrandr negative brightness has wrong color space range
1. I can confirm exactly same behaviour of your commands (on other OS). 2. I do not sure if this is a bug. 3. If you try to use some screen inversion along with brightness reduce, you may note that not only brightness becomes 'wrong', but the colored items are shown in wrong color. This is due to simple RGB-inversion, or Windows(R)-style inversion. Ubuntu after 12.04 LTS becomes far not friendly to correct screen shadowing/inversion/etc. because of most important tool of Compiz, the Color Filter, was thrown away at 14.04 LTS [1]. It was the reason why i am now on other OS (Slackware). Still, you may able to get what you want, with my workaround displayed in [1]. You will get correct colors. Hope that helps. P.S. I am not sure if XFCE uses Compiz, but you ask about Ubuntu, not Xubuntu? [Bug 1294699] Re: Xubuntu desktop crashes in call to cairo after setting fixed-width bitmap (pcf) GTK font
During further investigation, i found that apps subjected to this bug, starts to work when i downgrade cairo library to one from Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, which version is known to be free from this bug. This is cairo 1.10, libcairo2_1.10.2-6.1ubuntu2_i386.deb. Using it with 'dpkg -i' solves these problems. But adds many other problems: nautilus, synaptic, gedit, and even mc, refuses to work anymore. So i try to have both libs, and feed only apps subjected to cairo bug, with old library (i extract .deb package as archived file to get old library binary 'libcairo.so.2'). To obtain this, i try LD_PRELOAD. For gimp and eclipse, i use simple method that works from command line only: [code] echo "alias gimp=LD_PRELOAD=/home/test/Downloads/libcairo2_1.10.2-6.1ubuntu2_i386/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libcairo.so.2 gimp" >> ~/.bash_aliases echo "alias eclipse=LD_PRELOAD=/home/test/Downloads/libcairo2_1.10.2-6.1ubuntu2_i386/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libcairo.so.2 /opt/eclipse/eclipse" >> ~/.bash_aliases [/code] For LO, i try to make fully transparent setup which will work also from GUI, Ubuntu Main Menu, etc. NOTE: Using this way, it is NOT possible to open documents with spaces in file name. It is don't care for me; i can't find any possibility to replace '$@' to something supporting spaces. [code] sudo rm /usr/bin/soffice # this is just a link sudo rm /usr/bin/libreoffice # this is just a link sudo touch /usr/bin/soffice sudo chmod a+rwx /usr/bin/soffice sudo echo "LD_PRELOAD=/home/test/Downloads/libcairo2_1.10.2-6.1ubuntu2_i386/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libcairo.so.2 /usr/lib/libreoffice/program/soffice \$@" > /usr/bin/soffice sudo cp /usr/bin/soffice /usr/bin/libreoffice [/code] This all is probably ugly and dirty, but finally let me really switch to Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS from 12.04 LTS for everyday production use. Yes, it is fonts related issue, as i can see now: i found a way to reproduce it. 1. Boot from live flash drive (i use 14.04.2 LTS 32-bit version for that) 2. Install 'gimp' 3. Enable Universe repos 4. Install 'gnome-tweak-tool' 5. Install 'xfonts-terminus' (at this point, gimp will still run) 6. Run 'gnome-tweak-tool', select Fonts, and in 2nd selector from top, select 'Terminus 14' Wait a bit when new font will apply. Now, starting gimp, it will crash with error shown above. Looks like it is not related with this particular font, because other mentioned reports rarely related with this font. It is not looks like problem with font package itself (possible bugs, etc), because other software runs with it and looks properly. On Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS, this bug does not exist. Thank you! It work perfectly. P.S. #1. While it intended for Gnome3, i also test it in old Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. No. Installing cups-pdf (2.5.1-2) in any case gives this bug, either if i install it as uprgade to cups-pdf (2.5.0-16), as reinstall of itself, or as remove and then clean install. [Bug 651904] Re: wrong colors: some text is non-readable
Hi! The short answer is, 'darklooks' theme from 'gnome-themes-extras' package. Optionally, please read more: Unfortunately, the only useable official dark theme, 'darkroom' theme, was kicked from mainstream (at least 2 years ago) and then totally deleted. So i emulate it by simple customizing colors of exists themes (so my screenshots are not directly reproduceable), but i always setup correct colors for dark theme (all dark backgrounds and all bright text) and it's easy to reproduce without additional steps. One remaining dark theme is 'darklooks', but it's unfortunately not really useable, it can be used mainly for test. The steps to uniformly reproduce are:- Run Ubuntu 10.10 LiveCD (runs well in Virtualbox also) to ensure no user or other settings will affect results. Selest 'Try Ubuntu' without installing. Enable 'Universe' sources in software-center Install in synaptic 'gnome-themes-extras' stuff in Preferences-Appearance select 'darklooks' theme. Start software-center again and see it is version 3.0.8 (in 'about') and ensure no apt-get upgrade needed. Point in software-center to anything already installed, and see word 'installed' in almost unreadable colour (at least it is black, while in dark theme all text must be white). At least 99% of dark themes bugs can be, as first aid, solved by *remove* additional colouring of items and let it be system-coloured. The worst case is colouring by constant color independent of theme. The best case is all additional (not theme-defined) colors, if we really need it, must be calculated from theme-defined. Sorry if it's an offtopic. [Bug 657357] Re: GTK Printing Dialog: Duplex printing on HP inkjets does not work
Still not fixed in Ubuntu 11.04 (at least for CLP-300 printer). The solution is same: (may be helpful for new users) 1. system-config-printer set up your CLP-300 with default settings. make sure 600 dpi mode selected. close. 2. sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list add line deb http://www.openprinting.org/download/printdriver/debian/ lsb3.2 main contrib main-nonfree 3. sudo apt-get update 4. sudo apt-get install openprinting-splix 5. system-config-printer Make and model - Change select CLP-300 and you'll see two option at right pane, select SpliX. Hi! 1) I confirm #8, Samsung CLP-300N two-sided printing broken in Maverick, it was work well before. 2) There is no duplex unit for most laser printers; historically, instead of it, manual re-feeding of paper used when printer stops and flashes alarm light and wait for user button in middle of printing, as CLP-300N does. Hi, you're already reproduce this but in some other way (you get almost unreadable black text, while i get unreadable white). To exactly reproduce problem, i use these steps, please try these: boot from live CD; use synaptic to get 'gnome-themes-extras'; use System-Preferences-Appearance to select 'Darklooks' theme; in nautilus open home folder, press Ctrl+2 to list view, then press F3 and you see unreadable text exactly in my new 'Screenshot2.jpg' ** Attachment added: Screenshot2.jpg https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/652703/+attachment/1676389/+files/Screenshot2.jpg -- wrong colors when press F3 [nautilus] https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/652703 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi! Unfortunately current release doesn't have any official dark theme, so to reproduce this bug, please use System-Preferences-Appearance applet, Customize button, then Colors tab, and set four 'background' boxes to dark color and 'text' boxes to almost white color. Then in nautilus open any folder, press Ctrl+2 to list view, then press F3 and you see unreadable text like in my 'Screenshot.jpg' Thanks -- wrong colors when press F3 [nautilus] https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/652703 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 65010] Re: Xubuntu desktop manager not LTSP aware
Hi ! 1) I use Ubuntu 9.10 (server) 2) I prepare my LTSP setup in following steps: Install ubuntu-server-i386 on clean partition of 'server' PC install configure LTSP package run 'sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop' run Xfce under root user, get updates run 'adduser' to create 'user's without any rights boot 'thin client's from 'server' and login on clients via Xfce under 'user's 3) Play with this setup, and see all is fine except one thing: When i select 'Quit - Shutdown' on client panel, i immediately get a lot of 'SQUASHFS errors' on client and power off of server. I think it's a critical bug,.. but i currently not sure it's Xfce bug or not. Then I try workaround as in Comment #12, it's work - i no more able to ruin 'server', but now no simple (and cute) way to poweroff client PC... only way is logout first, then shut down client via login window menu.
