[Bug 1654632] Re: xrandr negative brightness has wrong color space range

2018-10-29 Thread jpka
1. I can confirm exactly same behaviour of your commands (on other OS).
2. I do not sure if this is a bug.
3. If you try to use some screen inversion along with brightness reduce, you
may note that not only brightness becomes 'wrong', but the colored items are
shown in wrong color. This is due to simple RGB-inversion, or Windows(R)-style
inversion.
Ubuntu after 12.04 LTS becomes far not friendly to correct screen
shadowing/inversion/etc. because of most important tool of Compiz, the Color
Filter, was thrown away at 14.04 LTS [1]. It was the reason why i am now on
other OS (Slackware). Still, you may able to get what you want, with my
workaround displayed in [1]. You will get correct colors. Hope that helps.

P.S. I am not sure if XFCE uses Compiz, but you ask about Ubuntu, not
Xubuntu?

Oops, unfortunately GIMP was NOT fixed.
Also not fixed are:
Eclipse;
B-Label.

Fixed are:
$ /usr/bin/inkscape --version
Inkscape 0.48.4 r9939 (Jan 22 2014)

Looking at date, one may note that something at system level may be fixed,
instead of particular app fixing; so we may expect other affected apps going to
be "fixed".
Thanks.

Let me comment here, instead of commenting on duplicate bug, due to it more
related to XFCE and other apps (themes). So, looking at good news on bug
#1294699, i test my previously reported apps and found that some was
fortunately fixed so far.
Looks like fixed and no show this bug any more:

LibreOffice 4.2.8.2 420m0(Build:2)

$ gimp --version
GNU Image Manipulation Program version 2.8.10

$ firefox --version

and still not fixed:

[Bug 1294699] Re: Xubuntu desktop crashes in call to cairo after setting fixed-width bitmap (pcf) GTK font

2015-12-20 Thread jpka
Other apps affected by cairo bug, and can be fixed with LD_PRELOAD, as in #6:
firefox, chromium-browser, thunderbird (Save as... and File selection dialogs);
paprefs;
gimp's PDF import filter.

To make gimp's PDF import work again, a bit more complex command and more
library regression need:
alias
gimp='LD_PRELOAD="/home/test/Downloads/libcairo2_1.10.2-6.1ubuntu2_i386/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libcairo.so.2

/home/test/Downloads/libpoppler-glib8_0.18.4-1ubuntu3.1_i386/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libpoppler-glib.so.8

/home/test/Downloads/libpoppler19_0.18.4-1ubuntu3.1_i386/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libpoppler.so.19

/home/test/Downloads/libtiff4_3.9.5-2ubuntu1.8_i386/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libtiff.so.4"
 gimp'

The required libraries are here http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise/libs/
. I test on i386 OS only.

[Bug 1294699] Re: Xubuntu desktop crashes in call to cairo after setting fixed-width bitmap (pcf) GTK font

2015-12-07 Thread jpka
During further investigation, i found that apps subjected to this bug, starts
to work when i downgrade cairo library to one from Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, which
version is known to be free from this bug. This is cairo 1.10,
libcairo2_1.10.2-6.1ubuntu2_i386.deb. Using it with 'dpkg -i' solves these
problems. But adds many other problems: nautilus, synaptic, gedit, and even mc,
refuses to work anymore.
So i try to have both libs, and feed only apps subjected to cairo bug, with old
library (i extract .deb package as archived file to get old library binary
'libcairo.so.2').
To obtain this, i try LD_PRELOAD.
For gimp and eclipse, i use simple method that works from command line only:

[code]
echo "alias
gimp=LD_PRELOAD=/home/test/Downloads/libcairo2_1.10.2-6.1ubuntu2_i386/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libcairo.so.2
 gimp" >> ~/.bash_aliases
echo "alias
eclipse=LD_PRELOAD=/home/test/Downloads/libcairo2_1.10.2-6.1ubuntu2_i386/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libcairo.so.2
 /opt/eclipse/eclipse" >> ~/.bash_aliases
[/code]

For LO, i try to make fully transparent setup which will work also from
GUI, Ubuntu Main Menu, etc. NOTE: Using this way, it is NOT possible to
open documents with spaces in file name. It is don't care for me; i
can't find any possibility to replace '$@' to something supporting
spaces.

[code]
sudo rm /usr/bin/soffice # this is just a link
sudo rm /usr/bin/libreoffice # this is just a link
sudo touch /usr/bin/soffice
sudo chmod a+rwx /usr/bin/soffice
sudo echo
"LD_PRELOAD=/home/test/Downloads/libcairo2_1.10.2-6.1ubuntu2_i386/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libcairo.so.2
 /usr/lib/libreoffice/program/soffice \$@" > /usr/bin/soffice
sudo cp /usr/bin/soffice /usr/bin/libreoffice
[/code]

This all is probably ugly and dirty, but finally let me really switch to
Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS from 12.04 LTS for everyday production use. Thanks.

Other affected apps:
Latest LibreOffice (Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS):
soffice.bin: /build/buildd/cairo-1.13.0~20140204/src/cairo-scaled-font.c:459:
_cairo_scaled_glyph_page_destroy: Assertion `!scaled_font->cache_frozen' failed.
 (crash on Writer's save dialogue, works well before save)
Latest Gimp (Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS):
gimp: /build/buildd/cairo-1.13.0~20140204/src/cairo-scaled-font.c:459:
_cairo_scaled_glyph_page_destroy: Assertion `!scaled_font->cache_frozen' failed.
gimp: terminated: Aborted
 (but very rarely it starts. Probability increases when dockable windows are
closed. But even if it start, walking through menus crash it, at different menu
each time, i.e. no particular word or symbol in menu is a problem. Before
crash, i am able to draw and save).

I can't use fonts other than bitmap fonts. Please also see Bug #1476736. If
these bugs are not going to be fixed, please give me starting point how i can
debug and fix it myself. I have enough resources for that.
I can't work without Gimp and especially LO. Thanks.

[Bug 1025578] Re: espeak sound output very slow if bluez-alsa installed

2015-11-27 Thread jpka
I can't confirm about espeak, or about skype as in bug #361615, but i affected
by this bug in my own apps using Portaudio lib. The same error flood and 20
secs delay arrives even with this simplest test program:
[code]
#include
#include
#include
PaStream *stream;

int main(void) {
Pa_Initialize();
Pa_OpenDefaultStream(, 2, 0, paFloat32, 192000,
paFramesPerBufferUnspecified, NULL, NULL);
puts("Finally I started.\n");
return EXIT_SUCCESS;
}
[/code]
and it is noticeable it still not fixed since 2009. On other machine i do not
have bluetooth, and error flood is same, but no start delay. After delay,
applications works correctly. Thanks.

2015-07-22 Thread jpka
Yes, it is fonts related issue, as i can see now: i found a way to reproduce it.
1. Boot from live flash drive (i use 14.04.2 LTS 32-bit version for that)
2. Install 'gimp'
3. Enable Universe repos
4. Install 'gnome-tweak-tool'
5. Install 'xfonts-terminus'
(at this point, gimp will still run)
6. Run 'gnome-tweak-tool', select Fonts, and in 2nd selector from top, select
'Terminus 14'
Wait a bit when new font will apply.
Now, starting gimp, it will crash with error shown above.
Looks like it is not related with this particular font, because other mentioned
reports rarely related with this font.
It is not looks like problem with font package itself (possible bugs, etc),
because other software runs with it and looks properly.
On Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS, this bug does not exist.
Thanks.

[Bug 1211102] Re: Get rid of 0.5s latency when playing audio over Bluetooth with A2DP

2014-08-16 Thread jpka
I obtain other receiver module, bc57f687a05 based (appears as BLK-MD-BC05-B).
It provides two profiles, HSP/HFP and A2DP. So now i able to switch profiles,
but it is not helpful. Switching between them only changes delay but not
removes it. HSP/HFP gives 1/4 s but unacceptable sound quality. A2DP gives 1/2
s regardless of switching. Looks like not driver/OS problem, but unavoidable HW
problem. I now wonder if someone (using any OS / HW) can get high quality sound
via bluetooth without delays. Unless that, bluetooth considered as unusable at
all for audio, and also, Kirk Shrewsbury's answer at link mentioned in #2,
considered correct.
Thanks.

[Bug 1211102] Re: Get rid of 0.5s latency when playing audio over Bluetooth with A2DP

2014-02-24 Thread jpka
I also affected by ~0.5 s delay.
Unfortunately, BYL-918 device does not have other than a2dp profile, so
switching not possible, and solutions in comment #2 not applicable.
A number of cheap adapters at online shops have BYL-918 IC.
Playing piano with 0.5 s delay makes cacophony.
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Thanks.

[Bug 938138] Re: ccsm crashed with ValueError in grab_value(): invalid literal for int() with base 16: 'Crash report'

2014-01-02 Thread jpka
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 726449 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/726449

I have same problem, but at different place in *ccsm* (tunung Negative filter).
I am not able to report for original duplicated bug, because it does not exist.
Please note, my report is about LTS version.
How to reproduce:
Start 'ccsm'
Point to 'Negative'
Point to '+' sign right to 'Exclude windows'
Select Type - Windows title, then Grab, then point to new empty Firefox browser
window.
I get something like
[code]Traceback (most recent call last):
  File /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/ccm/Widgets.py, line 1108, in
grab_value
value += %c % int(hex, 16)
ValueError: invalid literal for int() with base 16: 'Mozilla Firefox' [/code]
Thanks

[Bug 1073913] Re: Nautilus list view is constantly adjusting size of the columns

2014-01-02 Thread jpka
+1 G9283 (b8732)
(Almost) none of serious/blocking usability bugs was fixed since Hardy Heron.
Instead, professional stuff just kicked from mainstream, include: dark color
theme; btnx; Compiz color filter; gnome sensors applet. I wonder if someone
still can use latest Ubuntu's for something more complicated than two minute
session in cafe mode.

[Bug 1240211] Re: [wishlist] [solved] .lnk file support

2013-10-17 Thread jpka
Thank you! It work perfectly.

P.S. #1. While it intended for Gnome3, i also test it in old Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.
Some tricks are needed for such Gnome2-based OS, maybe it can be helpful for
someone:

[code]# Emulate 'gsettings' program which is not exist for Gnome2
sudo touch /usr/bin/gsettings
sudo chmod a+rwx /usr/bin/gsettings
sudo echo echo Humanity  /usr/bin/gsettings
# Make new folder and config file
mkdir $HOME/.cache/thumbnails
gsettings  $HOME/.cache/thumbnails/gnome-exe-thumbnailer.cfg
# Link new thumbnailer
gconftool-2 --type=bool --set
/desktop/gnome/thumbnailers/application@x-ms-dos-executable/enable true
gconftool-2 --type=bool --set
/desktop/gnome/thumbnailers/application@x-ms-shortcut/enable true
gconftool-2 --type=string --set
/desktop/gnome/thumbnailers/application@x-ms-dos-executable/command
/usr/bin/gnome-exe-thumbnailer %i %o
gconftool-2 --type=string --set
/desktop/gnome/thumbnailers/application@x-ms-shortcut/command
/usr/bin/gnome-exe-thumbnailer %i %o

# Link original thumbnailer if you need it suddenly:
gconftool-2 --type=string --set
/desktop/gnome/thumbnailers/application@x-ms-dos-executable/command
/usr/bin/gnome-exe-thumbnailer.sh %i %o
gconftool-2 --type=string --set
/desktop/gnome/thumbnailers/application@x-ms-shortcut/command
/usr/bin/gnome-exe-thumbnailer.sh %i %o[/code]

P.S. #2. It is useful sometimes to create .lnk file from msdos/windows
executable. I use it for tests. There is proprietary program 'xxmklink' exist
for it, it is free for non-profit use: http://www.xxcopy.com/xxcopy38.htm
Place xxmklink.exe to system32 (and to syswow64 folder for x64 OS).
To use it with Ubuntu, i create small glue logic:
[code]sudo touch /usr/bin/mklnk
sudo chmod a+rwx /usr/bin/mklnk
sudo echo 'wname=`winepath -w $1` ; wpath=${wname%'$'\047''\'$'\047''*} ;
wdescr=`zenity --entry --text=Enter text description (No empty allowed):
--entry-text=Description` ; echo *$wname* ; echo *$wpath* ; wine xxmklink.exe
$wname $wname %1 %2 %3 %4 %5 %6 %7 %8 %9 $wpath $wdescr 1 $wname:1
| zenity --text-info'   /usr/bin/mklnk [/code]
and for Gnome2, you just select Use custom command... from context menu of
your .exe file and type 'mklnk'.
For Gnome3, one may use:
[code]1) use this once:
mimeopen -d '/home/full path/to/your app.exe'
use application # -- Select (Other...)
use command: mklnk
2) next time use context 'Open with...' menu as in Gnome2 (select mklnk) on
your exe files.[/code]

[Bug 1240211] [NEW] [wishlist] [solved] .lnk file support

2013-10-15 Thread jpka
Public bug reported:

Hi! I need support for MS Windows .lnk (binary) files thumbnailing. I try to
modify '/usr/bin/gnome-exe-thumbnailer' program and it looks works for me.
Please look at patch below. I test it in old 'gnome-exe-thumbnailer.sh' in
Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and in new 'gnome-exe-thumbnailer' at Xubuntu 12.10.
It is also need to add MIME type for .lnk file. For Gnome3, i add
'application/x-ms-shortcut' to /usr/share/thumbnailers/exe-dll-msi.thumbnailer.
For Gnome2, this should work, i will test it later:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=998758page=2 (seek for 'gconftool-2'
there).

2013-06-17 Thread jpka
Public bug reported:

Hi! I have Ubuntu 12.10 , xbindkeys-config: 0.1.3-2ubuntu1.
I find that when command sequence in .rc file is long, program crashes with
message:

=== Backtrace: =
/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libc.so.6(__fortify_fail+0x65)[0xb7133105]
.etc.

I try to solve it and recompile, it works for me now. I attach the
modified source tree. Please look at changelog for details. I name it
now with 0.1.3.1 version.

only most important part of Compiz for people thinking about eyes health while

[Bug 798036] Re: Page rotation broken in 2.5.1 (work in 2.5.0)

2012-12-09 Thread jpka
I found the solution, and test it also in versions 2.6.1-6, and in Ubuntu 12.10
(2.6.1-7).
 $ sudo gedit /etc/cups/cups-pdf.conf
then replace:
 # GSCall .
to: (uncomment line remove '-dAutoRotatePages=/PageByPage' key)
 GSCall %s -q -dCompatibilityLevel=%s -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -dSAFER
-sDEVICE=pdfwrite -sOutputFile=%s -dAutoFilterColorImages=false
-dColorImageFilter=/FlateEncode -dPDFSETTINGS=/prepress -c .setpdfwrite -f %s

(Don't know what exactly it does, just result of trial-and-error tests.
Use with caution in production machines.)

[Bug 798036] Re: Page rotation broken in 2.5.1 (work in 2.5.0)

2011-11-20 Thread jpka
Hi! I'm sorry for delayed answer, it's due to openprinting.org's site was down
and i'm was unable to download needed packages. So i now enable proposed
packages and test it. But unfortunately i found that bug was still not fixed.
It now have version 'cups-pdf (2.5.1-7)'. I also reproduce this bug on other
machine. It is very easy to reproduce: go to Job options of your Pdf printer,
select 180 deg rotation and see that result is not rotated. Again, only known
solution for me is use 'cups-pdf 2.5.0-16' package.
Thank you!

[Bug 798036] Re: Page rotation broken in 2.5.1 (work in 2.5.0)

2011-06-29 Thread jpka
No.
Installing cups-pdf (2.5.1-2) in any case gives this bug, either if i install
it as uprgade to cups-pdf (2.5.0-16), as reinstall of itself, or as remove and
then clean install.
After each step i delete my virtual printer, then add it again.
The only solution i find is to use old version of cups-pdf (2.5.0-16): i remove
current cups-pdf and then install old cups-pdf (2.5.0-16) manually.
Thanks

2011-06-16 Thread jpka
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cups-pdf

Hi! After upgrade to Ubuntu 11.04, selection of page rotation in Printers - My
Cups-Pdf printer - Properties - Job options - Orientation, no more work:
1. When I select 180 deg rotation, i get not rotated PDF. (please see
attachment #1)
2. When I print one document which has pages with different quantity of
vertical and horizontal words/chars, i get PDF with randomly oriented
(portrait/landscape) pages. Looks like some artificial intelligence was added.
I compare to my Ubuntu 10.10 and find that all works normally in cups-pdf
2.5.0-16 .  (please see attachment #2)
To ensure it, i downgrade in my Ubuntu 11.04, cups-pdf (2.5.1-2) to cups-pdf
(2.5.0-16) and all work now as before.
Thanks.

[Bug 651904] Re: wrong colors: some text is non-readable

2011-05-28 Thread jpka
Hi! The short answer is, 'darklooks' theme from 'gnome-themes-extras'
package.

Optionally, please read more:
Unfortunately, the only useable official dark theme, 'darkroom' theme, was
kicked from mainstream (at least 2 years ago) and then totally deleted. So i
emulate it by simple customizing colors of exists themes (so my screenshots are
not directly reproduceable), but i always setup correct colors for dark theme
(all dark backgrounds and all bright text) and it's easy to reproduce without
additional steps.
One remaining dark theme is 'darklooks', but it's unfortunately not really
useable, it can be used mainly for test.
The steps to uniformly reproduce are:-
Run Ubuntu 10.10 LiveCD (runs well in Virtualbox also) to ensure no user or
other settings will affect results.
Selest 'Try Ubuntu' without installing.
Enable 'Universe' sources in software-center
Install in synaptic 'gnome-themes-extras' stuff
in Preferences-Appearance select 'darklooks' theme.
Start software-center again and see it is version 3.0.8 (in 'about') and ensure
no apt-get upgrade needed.
Point in software-center to anything already installed, and see word
'installed' in almost unreadable colour (at least it is black, while in dark
theme all text must be white).

At least 99% of dark themes bugs can be, as first aid, solved by *remove*
additional colouring of items and let it be system-coloured. The worst case is
colouring by constant color independent of theme. The best case is all
additional (not theme-defined) colors, if we really need it, must be calculated
from theme-defined.
Sorry if it's an offtopic.

Also please read my Bug #778904
Thanks!

[Bug 778904] [NEW] Multiple blind texts and wrong colors when dark Gnome color themes used

2011-05-07 Thread jpka
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: software-center

Hi!
It's is a major regression in compare to previous Software-center, which has
only one small Bug #651904 (please see picture in this bug).
Now, this problem is 'fixed' in dirty way - bar lost translucency and becomes
inverted in colors (it is not conform with dark theme and not eye-candy as
before).
Additionally, newly introduced features was not tested on dark color theme and
looks ugly and non-readable, not 'look and feel', not useful. Please see two
screenshots.
Please fix it in way that conforms with dark theme rule: all text must be
brighter than background. No inverted text please.
Thanks!

[Bug 657357] Re: GTK Printing Dialog: Duplex printing on HP inkjets does not work

2011-05-07 Thread jpka
Still not fixed in Ubuntu 11.04 (at least for CLP-300 printer).
The solution is same: (may be helpful for new users)
1. system-config-printer
 set up your CLP-300 with default settings.
 make sure 600 dpi mode selected.
 close.
2. sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
 add line
deb http://www.openprinting.org/download/printdriver/debian/ lsb3.2 main
contrib main-nonfree
3. sudo apt-get update
4. sudo apt-get install openprinting-splix
5. system-config-printer
 Make and model - Change
 select CLP-300 and you'll see two option at right pane, select SpliX.
Now duplex is work.

Hi!
When dark color theme used, Accounts-(select account)-Edit account menu

used.

[Bug 709094] [NEW] wrong colors on UPS/battery graphs when dark color theme used

2011-01-28 Thread jpka
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Hi!
I get wrong colors in Indicator applet when dark color theme used, in area
where battery graphs are displayed.
Please see attached 'screen.png', where I place Indicator applet's Power
statistics, along with other applications.
To reproduce it exactly, please use Darklooks theme from gnome-themes-extras
package; but other dark (i.e., bright text and dark background) themes can be
used.
As we can see,
1. Axis labels font color is wrong (black, instead of my theme's Text color);
2. Graph area color is wrong (white, instead of my theme's Input boxes bg
color, please see correct examples in picture);
3. Graph grid color is wrong (black, instead of my theme's Text or Windows fg
color).

Hi Till, thank you, two-sided printing now works well again. But any
printing using SpliX works *only* when i set 600 dpi resolution. At 300
dpi, printer even not eat paper, but flashing 4 toner LEDs in very
specific manner (it's a secret code? I can't decode this). At 1200 dpi,
printouts is almost black, like 100 times printing random text on same
sheet of paper. I can live well with 600 dpi; and i can give more info
and help testing if it's a bug in SpliX. Thanks!

[Bug 657357] Re: GTK Printing Dialog: Duplex printing on HP inkjets does not work

2010-12-11 Thread jpka
Hi Till, i try to follow your suggestion. I start 'system-config-
printer' from commandline; well known printer setup GUI appears. I not
find any 'driver' selector, but found 'Make and model - Change' button,
i use it, i hope it's right place. I also read your comment #1 for bug
#378068, which says

... Try also the SpliX driver. If it does not appear under the
driver choices for your printer, try a similar printer model like the
CLP-300 or CLP-310. ...

Sadly my CLP-300N (or CLP-300) not have splix associated. Nearest is CLP-500. I
select it, it looks now 'Samsung CLP-500, SpliX V. 2.0.0', but printer instead
of my document, print
'SPL-C error - Please use proper driver. .'
I also read your

   ... If these also do not list the SpliX driver, install the SpliX
package from ...

But synaptic show me Splix already exist in my system.
Is there any instruction how to tie (associate) my CLP-300N with Splix? I not
found anything via search. Thank you!

[Bug 657357] Re: GTK Printing Dialog: Duplex printing on HP inkjets does not work

2010-12-09 Thread jpka
Hi!
1) I confirm #8, Samsung CLP-300N two-sided printing broken in Maverick, it was
work well before.
2) There is no duplex unit for most laser printers; historically, instead of
it, manual re-feeding of paper used when printer stops and flashes alarm light
and wait for user button in middle of printing, as CLP-300N does. So i can't
select some magic duplex A4 paper or so; i can't find anything like it in any
paper selection drop-down lists.
Thanks.

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Hi!
When List view (Ctrl+2) used, menu Edit - Backgrounds and Emblems show

To reproduce this,
1. Open home folder
2. Press Ctrl+2 to switch to List mode view
3. Go to Edit - Backgrounds and Emblems and try to change background pattern
or color.

I read here, but it's not helpful:

[Bug 659810] [NEW] 'Inverted colors' also inverts Hue component

Hi! There is an Inversion feature (Ctrl+I) in evince. It's a brilliant and
extremely useful. But sadly it gives wrong inverted colors in colored documents

If we add also inversion of Hue component of color, results become much more
correct. I simulate it in GIMP (please see my inv-hue.jpg). Please implement
this. Thank you very much!

2010-10-06 Thread jpka
Hi, you're already reproduce this but in some other way (you get almost
unreadable black text, while i get unreadable white).
To exactly reproduce problem, i use these steps, please try these:
boot from live CD;
use synaptic to get 'gnome-themes-extras';
use System-Preferences-Appearance to select 'Darklooks' theme;
in nautilus open home folder, press Ctrl+2 to list view, then press F3 and you
see unreadable text exactly in my new 'Screenshot2.jpg'

Hi! Unfortunately current release doesn't have any official dark theme,
so to reproduce this bug, please use System-Preferences-Appearance
applet, Customize button, then Colors tab, and set four 'background'
boxes to dark color and 'text' boxes to almost white color. Then in
nautilus open any folder, press Ctrl+2 to list view, then press F3 and
you see unreadable text like in my 'Screenshot.jpg' Thanks

Public bug reported:

Hi !
After upgrade from Ubuntu version 9.04 to 10.04, or 10.10 alpha2, (more
precisely i do clean install each time), network not functional. It's not

9.04.
I reset my BIOS settings. I remove power cord for long time as recommended, to
avoid problems with NICs.
Here I attach command-line log when my system run under Ubuntu 10.10 alpha2 and
has three NICs, two of which is connected to same switch (i also try to connect
only one of course).
I have ASUS p5k motherboard.

PS. I try to automate problem reporting, but it fails as seen in cli-log. I'm

by appearing of fully functional 'Places - Search for files' applet?

[Bug 65010] Re: Xubuntu desktop manager not LTSP aware

2010-01-06 Thread jpka
I also have this bug. It is strange it is not 'critical' importance.
User *without any rights* easily shuts down server with a lot of other
users connected...

Xfce 4 Desktop Environment version 4.6.1 (Xfce 4.6)
xfce4-panel 4.6.1 (Xfce 4.6.1)

[Bug 65010] Re: Xubuntu desktop manager not LTSP aware

2010-01-06 Thread jpka
Hi !

1) I use Ubuntu 9.10 (server)
2) I prepare my LTSP setup in following steps:
Install ubuntu-server-i386 on clean partition of 'server' PC
install  configure LTSP package
run 'sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop'
run Xfce under root user, get updates
run 'adduser' to create 'user's without any rights
boot 'thin client's from 'server' and login on clients via Xfce under 'user's
3) Play with this setup, and see all is fine except one thing:
 When i select 'Quit - Shutdown' on client panel, i immediately get a lot of
'SQUASHFS errors' on client and power off of server. I think it's a critical
bug,.. but i currently not sure it's Xfce bug or not.
Then I try workaround as in Comment #12, it's work - i no more able to ruin
'server', but now no simple (and cute) way to poweroff client PC... only way is
logout first, then shut down client via login window menu.

Thank you!

[Bug 296713] Re: unable to customize appearance of KDE3 applications

2009-10-25 Thread jpka
I also often get this bug. As almost all other bugs with colors in dark color
shemes, this bug is not supported nor fixed oficially. Dark colors users are
alone with their look and feel 'enjoyment'.
Some apps, mostly qt3 apps, like QCAD, not have any replacements, not going to
rewritten for modern GUI engines and looks ugly in latest Ubuntu's.
Fortunately, there is solution which works for me with QCAD in 9.04.

[Bug 295536] Re: cups-pdf fails bad status reported and no pdf created

2009-01-13 Thread jpka
I confirm bug with /usr/lib/cups/backend/cups-pdf failed status.
I have 755 on /home/username.
I have no PDF folder, or manually created PDF with permissions 700, in both
cases I got same error.
In Ubuntu 8.04 its work without any manual tricks.

[Bug 276822] Re: busybox with (initramfs) / boot: / kernel not found

2009-01-04 Thread jpka
I also found that:
- different usb drives can show different problems; some is bootable and some
(old?) isn't.
- some (old?) motherboards (Asus P4PE for ex.) can not boot from usb drive, if
filesystem is not FAT16.
usb-creator not give me option to select a filesystem when it formats clean usb
drive.
But latest boards and drives normally boots on default settings, using xubuntu
iso. I only select boot device *after* bios tests, not *in* BIOS (to select
boot device, use 'esc' on eeepc, 'F8' on asus m/b, etc.).
