I don't speak portuguese, but "fim de ficheiro ou stream inesperado" translates to something like "unexpected end of file or stream". I guess the package "libwine" (for architecture i386) that apt downloaded for you somehow was corrupted (either faulty on the server you downloaded from, corrupted during transmission or on your side). You should be able to delete it from your package cache: sudo rm /var/cache/apt/archives/libwine_5.0-3ubuntu1_i386.deb ... and then reinstall it: sudo apt install wine If this doesn't work, I suggest to ask in a user support forum, and reference this bug here. [Bug 1876093] Re: problem with instalation wine
For Wine its dependencies have to be EXACTLY the same version on both the 64-bit architecture (amd64) and the 32-bit architecture (i386). Generally, if you are on a development version or are using 3rd party repositories/PPAs this might be not the case (temporarily or permanently). Unfortunately your report doesn't give any information about this. I also don't see a logfile from the wine installation process to figure out what went wrong. But I guess this is not a real bug in any package, but more a support request. Besides that winehq-stable is not a Ubuntu package, but from a 3rd party (winehq.org). So if there was a problem in that package, this is the wrong place to report it. [Bug 1845373] Re: Problem with wine
Thanks. Not sure what the reason is. You might be missing some libraries. Please check in your package manager that you have all needed video driver packages installed. You should find them in the dependencies of e.g. libwine:i386 or (probably, since I don't exactly know winehq's packages) wine-staging-i386. I assume you especially need: libgl1:i386 libgl1-mesa-dri:i386 libgl1-mesa-glx:i386 libwine only "recommends" them, so in some non-default setups they may be missing. You may also try wine or wine-development from the Ubuntu archives (the package this bug got reassigned to). You haven't installed their "main" packages, so you have to "apt purge winehq-staging && apt install wine". Verify with "wine --version" that the correct version gets executed. Otherwise this may be a problem of Wine itself. Since you are using wine-staging (from winehq.org) anyways, you might report this issue at https://bugs.winehq.org/. Then please report the bugnumber here. And if all of the above don't help, this might be an issue in another package, e.g. a regression in some opengl package - then this bug needs to be reassigned again. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1845373 Title: Problem with wine To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wine/+bug/1845373/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Please describe your issue (hint: you don't just run wine or wine64 - instead you use it to start some specific program.). @michel.ekimia: As Debian Maintainer I work on the Debian packages in Debian. I also helped Ubuntu folks to migrate to our Debian packages. Since then there has never been any action from any Ubuntu developer to change things. I hinted to this a few times (probably in another related bugreport) by telling that Ubuntu is of course free to change things to their needs. So no, there was no consensus decision, because there was just no activity/discussion/developer interest at all. There's only this discussion with (I assume) Ubuntu users here and related reports. My repeated pledge to at least send the winecfg.desktop file upstream never got any response/action. I still plan to add (or at least propose) an additional package "wine- desktop-integration". [Bug 1817244] Re: Game needs gstreamer1.0-plugins-good
Thanks again. Probably my last round of nitpicking questions: I found that this worked here although I don't have gstreamer1.0 -plugins-good:i386 because for MP3 Wine uses libmpg123-0. And libmpg123-0:i386 is already depended on by libwine. If I uninstall that, there's also no music here. Do you have libmpg123-0:i386 installed on your side? I wanted to check this, but I couldn't find any Ubuntu version that has wine 3.0-1ubuntu1. So which Ubuntu/Lubuntu version are you using? Is wine from the official (L)Ubunutu repository and is it the current version? Generally: your gdb output doesn't help much for Wine. There we usually use the terminal output, e.g.: WINEDEBUG="fixme+all" wine iji.exe &> log.txt No need for this though in this bug. The crash if the right plugin is missing seems to be fixed in current Wine. Anyway, I'm going to let libwine recommend: gstreamer1.0-libav, gstreamer1.0-plugins-good, gstreamer1.0-plugins-ugly, I'd also add gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad, but it's not co-installable for i386 and amd64 yet because of some non-multi-arch dependencies. Thanks for your answer. Unfortunately not the hoped for outcome. Usually I'd agree with you about a 32-bit app needing gstreamer1.0 -plugins-good from i386. It's just that my tests worked otherwise here: only the amd64 version, but still sound and at least on the start screen no crash. What's your "wine --version"? I just try to figure out whether to recommend "gstreamer1.0-plugins-good" from libwine (--> libwine:i386 will install the i386 version, AND libwine:amd64 will install the amd64 version, so you usually end up with both) or if I add the recommend to wine (--> only the host architecture version gets installed) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1817244 Title: Game needs gstreamer1.0-plugins-good To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wine/+bug/1817244/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi Dave, I just wanted to fix this, when I noticed that you explicitly mentioned "i386". A default Gnome installation on amd64 installs only the amd64 plugins, not the i386 ones. So I only have gstreamer1.0-plugins- good:amd64 installed, but not gstreamer1.0-plugins-good:i386. Still, the game has working music here. [Bug 1576326] Re: Xdg .desktop, .directory and mimetype files missing in the package
@carlix and @pemartins First off, please read this comment carefully and assume good will. It might sound quite negative to you at first, but I'm really trying to see what can be changed, and therefore try different view points on this topic. I can only check the comments in the Software-Center in Debian. There I see an upvoted, 5-star comment with some explanations why "Launch" in the Software Center cannot work, and later lots of 1-star "doesn't work" comments. That makes me wonder if adding Wine to the "Software Center" was the right decision. With multiarch (i386 needed on amd64 systems) and workarounds as described in appdb.winehq.org needed for specific programs, I still wonder if going the graphical way really helps people (being able to right-click on an application to "Start with Wine", but not seeing any error messages, might cause more trouble then help. And expecting that you can "Launch" Wine is completely off). So my personal feeling is to not lower the entry barrier too much, in order to not make people having false expectations. In that way I think about removing Wine from the Software-Center again. Now, ignore that for now, and let's consider other options: You gave me one example of comments about the right-click thing, so you want the wine.desktop file installed. Regarding the security- implications, and fileroller being preferred anyway: I don't think this assumption is true on every system (based on what I remember from the last time I had a thorough look at this). So this would need some investigation first. Maybe there's a way to ensure Wine is not the preferred application automatically. However, I'm thinking about a new package "wine-desktop-integration", which installs wine.desktop and maybe other things (e.g. winecfg.desktop, which so far nobody here did care to submit upstream :( ). Would such a "wine-desktop-integration" package help? Or do you want this stuff in the "wine" package itself? For the former I could just put a warning in the package, for the latter the security issue needs to be solved for sure, but even then I expect some opposition e.g. for "cluttering menus". @pemartins: Please elaborate. What system/desktop environment (DE) are you on? Does your DE allow you to put files on the Desktop at all? Do you have an applications menu? E.g here (Debian Buster with Gnome as DE) I have the setting "Tweaks -> Extensions -> Applications Menu" enabled, and see the installed Windows application as expected in the "Applications - Wine" menu. I can also start installed programs after hitting the "Super/Windows" key. However I just noticed that Gnome 3.28 completely removed the option to show files on the Desktop. You need e.g. the nemo-desktop file manager to keep this feature. So I suggest you verify the contents of these folders (note that they might use translated names on your system, or be configured completely different): $HOME/Desktop $HOME/.local/share/applications/wine/Programs $HOME/.local/share/desktop-directories If you find the files there, or after a search somewhere similar in your home folder then Wine already works as expected, and the issue is somewhere else. Is there anything else in the Ubuntu comments, that is actionable? Are there any packages/distributions which do, what your request here (except the "old" Ubuntu packages which were superseded by "our" packages)? E.g. as @pemartins confirmed, the wine-staging packages by upstream (winehq.org) don't do this (and I guess that is for the reason I stated in the beginning). So I'm interested in seeing if and what others did. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1576326 Title: Xdg .desktop, .directory and mimetype files missing in the package To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wine/+bug/1576326/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1576326] Re: Xdg .desktop, .directory and mimetype files missing in the package
Tagging as "Opinion". We made some changes in the meantime, which address some, but not all related requests. wine.desktop is provided as example in /usr/share/doc/wine/examples/wine.desktop. This is what probably most people here want, so that they can start an exe graphically by double-click or open-with. But it has the biggest risk of inadvertently running windows malware, and therefore won't be installed activated. Further I think it does users a disservice by obfuscating errors during installation of a Windows application, which unfortunately happens quite often. You get activated binfmt support with the "wine-binfmt" package, which is suggested by wine. This helps when working in a text-terminal. Not installed by default because of security risks, and others explicitly not wanting this feature. For these two issues please also see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wine/+bug/256880 [ubuntu helps spreading windows viruses]). /usr/share/doc/wine/README.Debian.gz (https://salsa.debian.org/wine-team/wine/raw/master/debian/README.debian) also explains it, and gives the needed manual commands. If you install a Windows application which installs a desktop launcher, then that is also on the Linux desktop. Not verified, but this should be true for menu entries, too. If you install a Windows application which comes with file associations (e.g. MS Word for .doc) these associations are also created in the Linux system. So that only leaves Menu entries of winecfg and such. They might be added if they are taken upstream (winehq.org). But personally I see no use in them, and I assume most requests were not about them. This topic is at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wine/+bug/1493044. All above is valid for both wine and wine-development in Ubuntu. Did I miss anything? [Bug 1773703] Re: wine-stable installs wine64 on 32-bit System
Hi Ulf, sorry for the late answer. You've got an uncommon setup, not sure if it is "valid" because I'd expect a foreign-architecture on a system to just work. I'm not totally sure if wineserver64 (a 64-bit program) not running on a 32-bit system with "some" 64-bit parts is a bug. Maybe this depends on the specifics of your system, but I'd say not-a-bug. The issue of a broken system (bug 1648278), or your original problem, needs fixing, but I don't think we should workaround this in any way in the Wine packaging. The Wine packaging defaults to support "everything" if available. If you've got both 32- and 64-bit enabled the default is to support both, which works perfectly on usual (non-broken) systems. If you want another setup you can just uninstall e.g. wine32 or wine64, since they are only recommended by wine. Finally AFAIK there is no possibility to handle foreign architecture separately in the packaging. The best fix to get a pure 32-bit Wine installation might be to make "wine" an architecture-dependent package (arch:any) instead of arch:all, but I don't really see the need to do so. Therefore I'm tagging this report as "opinion". [Bug 1775056] Re: package wine (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/bin/wine-stable', which is also in package wine-stable 3.0-1ubuntu1
Hi, thanks for your report, Fabio. This is caused by the transition from the old Ubuntu Wine packages to Debian's src:wine. Now in stage two we have to rename wine-stable back to wine. In a too optimistic naivety I had hoped that we don't need breaks/replaces for this - despite some positive tests it seems I was wrong. I've got no idea why it works for some people/package managers), but not you(rs). Anyway, attached patch should fix it. It lets pkg:wine break/replace the real (non-transitional) pkg:wine-stable. Ubuntu folks, please test and upload a fixed version of src:wine to cosmic. If this works, I will add it in Debian until 20.04 is released, so that you can continue syncing wine again. Hi, you're issues are caused by the package "wine", Version 3.0-1. To install the stable version of Wine from the Ubuntu archives you only need "wine-stable", Version 3.0-1ubuntu2 and its related dependencies. "wine-stable" refuses to be coinstalled with "wine" on purpose. Where is the package "wine" coming from? I assume some 3rd party repository/PPA. All I can see from DpkgTerminalLog.txt that it was installed in the same synaptic run with "wine-stable". "apt policy wine" might give an answer. [Bug 1711855] Re: wine-stable is missing the standard Wine menu entries / .desktop files
[Speaking as Debian co-maintainer, Ubuntu is of course absolutely free to change the packages as they see fit.] > Configure Wine > Uninstall Wine Software > Browse C: Drive ... for these I personally see no need, and when I asked in the past nobody was interested in sending these Ubuntu specific files to upstream. OTOH I'm also not aware of any risks or problems with those. > "Open with Wine Windows Program Loader" link First off, I absolutely get your point how this is unfriendly for users, especially inexperienced ones, in the first place. But this is only useful for applications which work flawlessly without the need for any workaround (applications which are rated platinum on appdb.winehq.org). Unfortunately these apps are only a very small part of all Windows applications. So instead of giving users a very easy start in using Wine, followed by a big disappointment if the installation fails silently or some later issues exist ... instead of that I think it's better to look up the Wine instructions for any Windows application on appdb.winehq.org first. Getting users to be aware of this ressource imho is much more needed and helpful. Now, back to the topic and the main reason why this doesn't work: "Open with Wine Windows Program Loader" is done by the wine.desktop file. That is already part of the wine-stable package, but not activated for security reasons. Quoting /usr/share/doc/wine/README.Debian.gz: ~~ System and desktop integration == You can configure your system to automatically launch Windows executables. But this increases the risk of inadvertently launching Windows malware, so please make sure that you understand the security risks before blindly setting this up. [...] You can also make Wine known to your desktop environment. Then you may for example in a filebrowser double-click on Windows executables to start them, or right-click on them to "Open With Wine Windows Programs Loader". To enable system-wide support for .exe files execute the following command (replace /usr/share/doc/wine with /usr/share/doc/wine-development if you use wine-development): $ sudo cp /usr/share/doc/wine/examples/wine.desktop /usr/share/applications/ To support this only for your current user execute: $ cp /usr/share/doc/wine/examples/wine.desktop ~/.local/share/applications/ ~ NOTE: I just realized that this documentation should refer to /usr/share/doc/wine-stable ("-stable" is missing. Only Ubuntu 16.10 to 18.04 are affected, later versions will have a regular "wine" package again.) Yes, that needs fixing, but don't overdramatize the issue ;) libsane is only a recommends, so it is not mandatory. You still can install and use Wine, right? Can you please help me figuring out from where this problematic wine1.7 is coming? Please post the output of apt policy wine1.7 To solve your problems just uninstall wine1.7 (and maybe some related packages). >>Yes, wine32 is installed at your computer. But if it was not installed, >>then you would get the above mentioned message. >But it IS installed and I DID get the above-mentioned message...! Not sure, if there is still something to settle out. But to avoid further delays, let's both always literally cite the messages we refer to. You have confirmed with "apt policy wine32" that it is installed - good. Your initial issue with running the Windows version of Gimp with Wine is solved - even better. GDebi tells you "Error: no longer provides wine32" --> This is a bug in gdebi, therefore I added gdebi to this bug report, and additionally filed #865580 against gdebi in Debian. Synaptic tells you "The list of installed files is only available for installed packages" --> This is a bug in synaptic, therefore I added synaptic to this bug report, and additionally filed #865578 against synaptic in Debian. Finally, I mentioned that if wine32 is not installed and you start wine from the command line you'd get a warning hint: multiarch needs to be enabled first. as root, please execute "dpkg --add-architecture i386 && apt-get update && apt-get install wine32" So when you said in your previous message But it IS installed and I DID get the above-mentioned message...! did you refer to this hint? Then we'd really have a bug in the wine packages. In that case I'd ask you to post (again) the output of thefollowing commands: apt policy wine32 dpkg --print-architecture dpkg --print-foreign-architectures ls -l /usr/lib/wine* wine --version Greets jre -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1682874 Title: GDebi re: wine32:i386: "Error: no longer provides wine32" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gdebi/+bug/1682874/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1704094] Re: ubuntu-bug xorg
Hi Marius, I assume you tried to install Wine from the "Gnome Software Center". Right? This should have given you wine1.6 (1:1.6.2-0ubuntu14.2) from xenial- updates in the Ubuntu archives. However your machine hung for 10 minutes, and then you aborted this. Later on it seems you then successfully installed "winehq-devel", which is provided directly by winehq.org. I assume you did that on a terminal, but not in Gnome Software. Right? Please confirm my assumptions, or explain exactly what you did and what did (not) happen. @jbicha: If I understand this issue correctly, it seems that the fix for https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1571816 doesn't work yet. Note: I'm not sure how to verify if "xenial-updates" is enabled. Maybe there's also some confusion in the system between available appstream data (from xenial-updates) and actually available packages (from xenial). Or whatever ... Finally, I assume that only "src:wine1.6" in Xenial is affected, but "src:wine" and "src:wine-development" work fine. Please uninstall the obsolete Wine packages, then the file conflict should be solved and apt be working again: $ sudo apt purge wine1.4 wine1.4-i386 wine1.4 You may also have to explicitly install the correct wine packages instead: $ sudo apt install wine-stable wine32 wine64 libwine libwine:i386 fonts- wine Now I wonder where the ancient wine1.4 was coming from when you tried to install playonlinux. Indeed playonlinux should pull in the package wine or any of the virtual packages which provides this name (many exist). Since Ubuntu 16.10 this should be "wine-stable" or eventually "wine-development". But the package wine1.4 does not exist in Zesty, and the mentioned version is not part of any current Ubuntu repository (see http://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/wine1.4). There was a transition from wine1.4 to wine1.6 in Xenial (16.04LTS), and beginning in 16.10 a transition from wine1.6 to wine-stable (or alternatively wine- development). Therefore we didn't see a need for explicitly handling wine1.4 in wine-stable, which now causes the error. Please check the repositories in your /etc/apt/sources.list (and all files in the folder /etc/apt/sources.list.d/) if they are still relevant and provide packages for Zesty (17.04). I assume you have some old PPA there which breaks current wine from the Ubuntu repositories. In the past we decided to only handle upgrades from official 16.04 and to ignore everything else. I'm not sure if we need to reconsider this, but for now I assume you did something really "exotic" on your system. So please tell me if my solution works for you, and if you found out where wine1.4 was coming from. Hi, thanks for your report. The issue was caused by an file conflict between the Wine packages in the Ubuntu archive and those in the PPA "ricotz". You have to uninstall the package "wine2.0-amd64" and eventually others (wine2.0, wine2.0-i386, ...) from that PPA before you can install the Wine packages from the Ubuntu archive. I'm not sure if we want to care for this kind of issues with 3rd-party packages in the Ubuntu archive. (For now I don't plan to do anything actively for this, but I don't object if someone adds additional conflict/breaks/replaces in the packaging.) In the meantime the owner of the "ricotz" PPA removed the wine2.0 packages. So the initial reason for this issue is now taken care of. Thanks again to the ricotz maintainer for the quick reaction now that we finally made contact! I can't tell yet, if he will continue to offer some Wine packages in the future. Hi, I see you had the same problems while trying to install wine-staging. I assume you still have some other 3rd-party installation of Wine which conflicts with your attempts to install wine now. Please post the output of: dpkg -l "*wine*" Further the output of the following command might be more specific: sudo apt install libwine Greets jre ** Changed in: wine (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1675492 Title: package libwine:i386 1.8.5-1ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: Paket libwine:i386 kann nicht konfiguriert werden, da libwine:amd64 nicht bereit ist (aktueller Status »half-installed«) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wine/+bug/1675492/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1671309] Re: package fonts-wine (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: a tentar sobre-escrever '/usr/share/wine/fonts/coue1255.fon', que também está no pacote wine2.0 1:2.0-0ubuntu1~17.04~ric
Hi, thanks for your report. Unfortunately there is a conflict between the Wine packages in Ubuntu (fonts-wine) and a PPA that you previously used. To solve your issues you have to uninstall the Wine packages from the PPA ricotz1 (wine2.0). Then the Wine packages from the Ubuntu archive will install just fine. Please tell the maintainer of the "ricotz1" PPA to set up a sensible "Conflicts" with the packages in the Ubuntu archive, to avoid these problems in the future. [Bug 1665941] Re: Wine requiring older version
Thanks for your report. I don't know ies4linux - sounds as if it already incorporates Wine somehow, and maybe the ies4linux devs need to fix this. Otherwise it looks as if this has to be handled by upstream directly (you already use it directly, so there's not much Ubuntu involved here anyway). Can you file a bug at http://bugs.winehq.org/ and notify this bug report here about it? If ies4linux is freely available please provide a download link for the installer, so that the devs can test. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1665941 Title: Wine requiring older version To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wine/+bug/1665941/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1665408] Re: winecfg does not work on 32 bit wine directory
So you created a new prefix with WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=/home/john/.wine32-test wine wineboot Testing this with WINEPREFIX=/home/john/.wine32-test winecfg worked. Then 2 hours later the same command WINEPREFIX=/home/john/.wine32-test winecfg failed. Right? Were you using Wine in this prefix between? What did you do? Were there any running Wine processes before you unsuccessfully tried to start winecfg? Did you get the same error message then? fixme:shell:SIC_Initialize Failed to load IDI_SHELL_DOCUMENT icon! err:ole:apartment_createwindowifneeded CreateWindow failed with error 127 If you find how to reliably reproduce this I suggest you report this upstream, and report back here.
