[Bug 1579712] Re: Refresh hangs indefinitely, appstreamcli using 100% CPU

For some reason Kubuntu users seems able to run 'Update Manager' without
the 100% CPU issue. Otherwise I agree: this bug is a showstopper for the
average (non-geek) user.

[Bug 575402] Re: MSI Wind U100 with RALINK RT2860 wireless adapter will not connect to WPA or WPA2 encrypted networks

2010-05-09 Thread kajhaul
Same problem here. Medion Akoya (MSI-Wind clone?) with Ralink RT2860STA.
Upgrade from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04 broke wireless (Bad Password - which
it is not). Same with a fresh install. Tried all i386 versions (Ubuntu +
Netbook remix, Kubuntu + Netbook Remix) with no succes. Tried both
network-manager and wicd - same result: "Bad Password"). Reinstalled
9.10 versions and everything is OK again (typing this on 9.10).

[Bug 540070] Re: wicd connect to wpa2 wireless network bad password

2010-05-08 Thread kajhaul
The procedure described above in #9 worked flawlessly for me.

The upgrade - followed by re-install x3 - broke my wireless completely,
wicd as well as network-manager. Everything appeared OK undtil I tried
to connect via WPA personal. Then it kept going like this: "Bad
password" (it wasn't). My network was visible enough, but no go. I tried
several laptops (Medion Akoyas) with RT2860STA cards - without ever
getting them to connect. (Bad password). I even tried to install
Kubuntu, Kubuntu Netbook Remix, vanilla Gnome and Gnome Netbook Remix -
all failed to connect.

After the downgrade to karmic all is well with wicd. Tanks, Toby.

Yes.

Still, when trying to find (add) that printer under (Kubuntu)
"Printer configuration" it does not show. In fact, no USB printers
listed.

But then again, could it be due to the proprietary driver from
Samsung now installed? (it works well).

[Bug 426248] [NEW] Samsung printer ML-1640 disappeared.

Actually, you can reboot the system with the keyboard in a safe way.
Use the 'Elephant' sequence:
In a sequential order, press ++ - this will put the
keyboard in 'raw' mode. Then, continue the sequence by replacing the
 above with , , , , - (wait a few seconds between
each three-finger combination).

[Bug 197681] Re: cannot display this video mode

2009-02-07 Thread kajhaul
When I got this message: on my monitor (Philips 150S): "Cannot display
this video mode. Change computer input to 1024x...@60hz." on a black
screen, I just edited one line in the file /boot/grub/menu.lst :

From: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.27-7-generic
root=UUID=93c481f7-14b5-4336-85ce-be54327fb066 ro quiet splash
To: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.27-7-generic
root=UUID=93c481f7-14b5-4336-85ce-be54327fb066 ro vga=773

Save the file, and reboot. You'll now see all the kernel messages scroll
by. Nice. On other monitors the vga mode may be different, i.e. 791. You
can find the relevant numbers here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VESA_BIOS_Extensions#Linux_video_mode_numbers

Scroll down to "Linux video mode numbers" almost at the bottom of that
page and try out the relevant numbers. Problem gone.

Maybe... but I don't have 3D enabled. However I changed my BIOS to
enable APIC and - so far - I have not seen the problem since. A

Well, since I don't have that section in xorg.conf it can hardly be

Clean install x 5 of Feisty : same problem (system locks on user logout).
Using ati driver. Ctrl+Alt+Backspace doesn't kill X. Must use the "elephant
