[Bug 199823] Re: [Hardy] Blender's 3D viewport grid looks strange

2008-03-18 Thread kakukri
I have the same bug on a Thinkpad R61i (with GM965). I think it is not a
Blender bug, as it reminds me the rendering glitches I found in 3D games
(see the attached screenshot). Johannes, could you try a simple 3D game
(e.g. ppracer) to see if it renders OK or with glitches?

I think the bug is in the file i965_dri.so. I tried to replace it with
the one in Gutsy, and it made those glitches disappear, however, it then
froze the system when tried to play Torcs. As I happened to test an
install of Frugalware, which has 7.0.2 version of mesa, and copying
i965_dri.so from it fixed the rendering problems.

2008-03-18 Thread kakukri
Tried to experiment with earlier versions of mesa, and downgrading
libgl1-mesa-dri and libgl1-mesa-glx to 7.0.2-4ubuntu2 solved the
problems, while they are present with the 7.0.3~rc2 versions. Meanwhile
I have found the easiest way to check if the problem is present is to
open Screensaver Preferences, choose the screensaver 'Skyrocket', and if
parts of the terrain disappear and/or bacame a triangle pointing towards
the centre of the picture (see attached screenshot), the rendering
problems are present.

On a sidenote, with 7.0.3~rc2-1ubuntu2 the z-buffer problems with the

Added links to the corresponding Debian and Mesa bugs.

Until it gets fixed upstream, as a temporary hack using i965_dri.so from
version 7.0.2-4ubuntu2 seems to work, even with libgl1-mesa-
glx-7.0.3~rc2, at least so far I did not encounter instabilities with
this combo.

[Bug 206774] [NEW] [hardy] intlclock problem when clicking on a location

2008-03-25 Thread kakukri
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Hardy beta, amd 64
gnome-panel 1:2.22.0-0ubuntu2

With the new international clock applet when I click on any of the locations,
and then close the applet, the panels disappear for a few seconds, then
reappear, but without the nm-applet.
Steps to reproduce the problem:
1.) Click on the clock in the panel to open the applet.
2.) If locations are not shown, click on 'Locations' to show them.
3.) Click on any of the locations (on the clock, city name, time or weather
icon).
4.) Click on the clock in the panel to close the applet.

Now the panels disappear, and after a few seconds they reappear,
however, nm-applet will be missing from the panel. Enabling or disabling
Compiz does not change this behaviour.

[Bug 64541] Re: Thinkpad WiFi LED does not light up

2008-03-25 Thread kakukri
Same here on an R61-8935 with Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG: on Hardy beta
(64 bit) wifi works, but the LED not, on Gutsy (64 bit) both wifi and
LED does work as expected.

I think the problem might be in the iwlwifi driver. I say this because
today I repleced the ipw3945 driver with iwl3945 on a Debian Lenny, and
since that the LED finished working. I tried to test it in Ubuntu, but
in Hardy there is no ipw3945 driver anymore, and the iwl3945 on Gutsy
does not work (I can load it, but seems no wireless interface is
created).

[Bug 211528] [NEW] [Hardy] Brasero cannot copy a DVD to file image

2008-04-03 Thread kakukri
Public bug reported:

Hardy beta (last updated 3 April)
Brasero-0.7.1-3ubuntu1

I cannot copy a DVD to file image. Steps done:
1.) Put DVD to the drive. (It is automounted, and OK in Nautilus)
2.) Open Brasero.
3.) Click on Disc copy.
4.) Under 'Select a drive to write to' choose File image.
At this point the 'Properties' button and the 'Copy' button gets grayed out,
and nothing is showed besides the icon (where the name of the image file is
supposed to be), see the attached screenshot. When I tried with a CD, it seemed
to work, at least I could click on 'Properties', change the image file, click
on 'Copy', and the actual copying started (I cancelled it manually, but seemed
to work flawlessly until that point).

The problem is not related to css encoded DVDs, it is present with my
unencrypted data discs as well.

I tried DVD -R, +R, +RW without success.

[Bug 162206] Re: xserver-xorg-video-intel 3D graphical (z-buffer) issues

2008-03-18 Thread kakukri
It is again present in mesa 7.0.3~rc2-1ubuntu2 version. It might or
might not be in conjunction with other rendering problems described in
bug #199823. The common thing is both problems disappeared after
downgrading mesa to 7.0.2-4ubuntu2 version.

[Bug 199823] Re: [Hardy] Blender's 3D viewport grid looks strange

2008-03-19 Thread kakukri

[Bug 199823] Re: [Hardy] Blender's 3D viewport grid looks strange

2008-03-18 Thread kakukri
Tried to experiment with earlier versions of mesa, and downgrading
libgl1-mesa-dri and libgl1-mesa-glx to 7.0.2-4ubuntu2 solved the
problems, while they are present with the 7.0.3~rc2 versions. Meanwhile
I have found the easiest way to check if the problem is present is to
open Screensaver Preferences, choose the screensaver 'Skyrocket', and if
parts of the terrain disappear and/or bacame a triangle pointing towards
the centre of the picture (see attached screenshot), the rendering
problems are present.

On a sidenote, with 7.0.3~rc2-1ubuntu2 the z-buffer problems with the
'Endgame' screensaver (bug #162206) are again present.

Seems I am the most fortunate, for me adding 'options thinkpad_acpi

brightness changing working and also the Gnome brightness indicator non
laggy. For the record I have an R61-8935. The only glitch remaining is
that Fn+End changes the brightness down in around twice as big steps as
Fn+Home up, more precisely it requires 8 steps from 100% down to 0, and
15 steps from 0 to 100%.

** Attachment added: "Screenshot-Screensaver Preferences-2.png"

** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel
+ Binary package hint: mesa, xserver-xorg-video-intel

If I switch from orthographic to perspective view (Numpad 5) the grid in
the 3D viewport looks really strange.

Added links to the corresponding Debian and Mesa bugs.

Until it gets fixed upstream, as a temporary hack using i965_dri.so from
version 7.0.2-4ubuntu2 seems to work, even with libgl1-mesa-
glx-7.0.3~rc2, at least so far I did not encounter instabilities with
this combo.

[Bug 198476] Re: [REGRESSION] Impossible to change LCD brightness on Thinkpad R61/T61/X61

2008-03-23 Thread kakukri
Seems I am the most fortunate, for me adding 'options thinkpad_acpi
brightness_enable=1' to /etc/modprobe.d/options helped, it made
brightness changing working and also the Gnome brightness indicator non
laggy. For the record I have an R61-8935. The only glitch remaining is
that Fn+End changes the brightness down in around twice as big steps as
Fn+Home up, more precisely it requires 8 steps from 100% down to 0, and
15 steps from 0 to 100%.

** Attachment added: "Screenshot-Screensaver Preferences-2.png"

** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel
+ Binary package hint: mesa, xserver-xorg-video-intel

If I switch from orthographic to perspective view (Numpad 5) the grid in
the 3D viewport looks really strange.

** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 64541] Re: Thinkpad WiFi LED does not light up

2008-03-25 Thread kakukri
Same here on an R61-8935 with Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG: on Hardy beta
(64 bit) wifi works, but the LED not, on Gutsy (64 bit) both wifi and
LED does work as expected.

I think the problem might be in the iwlwifi driver. I say this because
today I repleced the ipw3945 driver with iwl3945 on a Debian Lenny, and
since that the LED finished working. I tried to test it in Ubuntu, but
in Hardy there is no ipw3945 driver anymore, and the iwl3945 on Gutsy
does not work (I can load it, but seems no wireless interface is
created).

[Bug 206774] Re: [hardy] intlclock problem when clicking on a location

2008-03-27 Thread kakukri
I will do it at latest in the weekend.
With todays update now Apport also creates a bug report, it is now bug #207954.
It is a duplicate of this bug, but did not find another way to send in the info
from Apport. I also looked into ~/.xsession-errors, and it has a few lines from
gnome-panel, which I copy here:

[Bug 216829] Re: Sound for the logout event does not play

2008-04-18 Thread kakukri
Same here. I would add to it that in Gutsy I also had no logout sound,
than in Hardy I had until a recent update. Unfortunately my speakers
were off around that time, so I cannot sayprecisely when it got broken.

[Bug 211528] Re: [Hardy] Brasero cannot copy a DVD to file image

2008-04-28 Thread kakukri
Did a fresh install of the final 8.04 release, and just realised that it
seems to work well now. I note that this time I have used xfs file
system instead of ext3, but I think it was not the reason, I suspect a
config file messed up during the numerous updates of the beta.
