Re: [Bug 77511] Re: hald interferes with acpid?
I've not encountered this in some time. I'm currently using a Hardy Heron that was incrementally upgraded from Edgy. I cannot confirm having seen this bug since I left Edgy. I might at some point want to reload the latest Ubuntu from scratch. If I do that , I could load a fresh Edgy install if that would be helpful. [though it may be a while before I get to this] Please let me know if this would be of interest... -K Thanks for revisiting this after all this time... [Bug 51591] Re: acpid: can't open /proc/acpi/event
I have what I think is a related problem. I also got messages like those above when I upgraded to Edgy. I found a message posted about this (sorry, forgot where) which suggested doing this: sudo /etc/init.d/acpid stop sudo killall hald then finish the install. this worked. but I keep getting messages about /proc/acpi/event being busy. They seem to be solvable when I do this: sudo /etc/init.d/acpid stop sudo killall hald sudo /etc/init.d/acpid restart this works until the next x session starts - also I don't know what this is doing to hald's functionality. good luck -K -- acpid: can't open /proc/acpi/event https://launchpad.net/bugs/51591 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have an averatec 3715-eh1 and the following worked for me sudo /etc/init.d/acpid stop sudo killall hald sudo /etc/init.d/acpid start sudo hald the battery applet appears to work properly afterwards though this procedure needs to be repeated on each X session restart. looks like a bug in how the various processes startup. -- gnome-power-manager issues with HAL reports on Asus M6Ne https://launchpad.net/bugs/71337 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 77511] hald interferes with acpid?
Public bug reported: I get the following in a popup on an avaratec 3715-eh1 running gnome under edgy (upgraded from dapper). "Can't access ACPI events in /var/run/acpid.socket" I can sort of resolve this by /etc/init.d/acpid stop killall hald /etc/init.d/acpid start hald this is only effective for the current x session. I think this has no adverse effects upon hald functionality but cannot fully confirm that. i am not sure what package this is a bug in. I think perhaps bugs #51591 and #71337 are related to this. ** Affects: sysvinit (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- hald interferes with acpid? https://launchpad.net/bugs/77511 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
