Re: [Bug 527832] Re: [Lucid] Ubiquity shuts off my monitor during the startup to live environment
This problem has not been fixed as of lucid beta or the March 28 daily lucid build (I just tested both with the same result as before). The issue seems to affect users with LCD TV's (and possibly nvidia video cards) but the bug disapears when one plugs in their computer to an LCD monitor. Considering that many people have LCD TV's (and nvidia video cards) and that those users OS's are incapacitated by the bug, should the bug be marked as critical under the bug level definitions? See Bug #545648 for more info. If there is any way I can help please let me know because Ubuntu Lucid does not work at all on my system because of this bug. Re: [Bug 528277] Re: screen goes blank when booting to live environment with some nouveau Graphics Cards
Ubuntu does not work well on LCD TV's yet. It works great on LCD computer monitors, but Ubuntu 9.10 and below can't recognize the correct resolution on LCD TV's, so the image is shifted and must be reset every time one boots up. Ubuntu 10.04 can't recognize LCD TV's at all because Noveau is used by default in Ubuntu 10.04 instead of the nvidia driver. For some reason Noveau is even worse at being able to recognize LCD TV's than the nvidia driver at this stage. Until a Ubuntu developer tests it on a larger LCD TV (42 or so) and figures out how to repair this problem one is forced to either use an older version of Ubuntu or Opensuse. Sorry for the bad news, but Ubuntu is well on it's way to being the best OS ever and the tech support staff is usually great about fixing bugs like this. - Adam -- screen goes blank when booting to live environment with some nouveau Graphics Cards https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/528277 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 545648] [NEW] Ubuntu does not recognize many LCD TV's
*** This bug is a security vulnerability *** Public security bug reported: I have a 42'' LCD TV and when I boot up Ubuntu 9.10 and below (8.04-9.10) the screen is always shifted because Ubuntu does not recognize the correct resolution of my LCD TV. Then, I connected my computer to my spare 20'' LCD monitor and everything works perfectly and the screen image is centered with no need for me to adjust the screen resolution. In Ubuntu 10.04(both alpha and beta versions), when I boot up with my 42'' LCD TV the monitor says no signal and then shuts off. I then connected my computer to that same spare 20'' LCD monitor, rebooted ubuntu 10.04, and everything worked perfectly. (I believe the fact that 10.04 does not work at all with the LCD TV has something to do with noveau being used by default instead of the nvidia driver because I have the same problem with Fedora (which uses noveau by default) but no problem with Opensuse or windows) Many people have reported the same no signal bug with LCD TV's booting ubuntu that I have run in to in the tech support forums. I just never realized this problem was due to Ubuntu running on an LCD TV (32+) instead of running on an LCD computer monitor (20). Please let me know if you have any questions because Ubuntu rocks and I want to help them get rid of these bugs. Thanks - Adam (I'm not sure if this qualifies as a security vulnerability but I suppose not having acess to the Ubuntu OS could be a security vulnerability, so I will check the security box and I apologize if this was an incorrect assumption) ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Visibility changed to: Public -- Ubuntu does not recognize many LCD TV's https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/545648 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 528277] [NEW] screen goes blank after booting ubuntu 10.04 alpha 3
Public bug reported: When I boot up from the ubuntu 10.04 alpha 3 live cd the screen goes blank after clicking try ubuntu without installing. This also happens when I try to boot after installing. I believe this has something to do with the switch to nouveau as the default video driver for nvidia chips because I have the same problem when trying to boot Fedora, which uses nouveau by default as well. Booting 9.10 and earlier causes no problems except I have to adjust the screen resolution each time I boot up. I have a nvidia Geforce 6200 video card and am using a 2003 HP desktop attached to a 42'' LCD monitor (TV really). ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: iso-testing lucid -- screen goes blank after booting ubuntu 10.04 alpha 3 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/528277 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

No, my screen displayed no signal after clicking try ubuntu without installing in the lucid lynx alpha 3 live cd. It stayed that way for 5 minutes, so I doubt it's just a matter of waiting it out. [Bug 528756] [NEW] Ubuntu forgets my screen resolution settings every time I reboot
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center Every time I reboot/boot up ubuntu I have to change the screen resolution settings back to 1152*864 from the value of 1024*768. I do this by going to system-preferences-display, where I get the message It appears that your graphics driver does not support the necessary extensions to use this tool. Do you want to use your graphics driver vendor's tool instead?. I have nvidia video card, so it brings me to nvidia x server settings when I click yes. I then select x server display configuration, click 1152*864, click apply. This changes the resolution, but the change is not remembered by ubuntu upon restarting my computer. (I also tried clicking save to x configuration file in nvidia's x server settings, but it says Failed to parse existing X config file '/etc/X11/xorg.conf'!. There is no way that I can get ubuntu to remember or correctly detect my screen resolution. (This would not be a big deal except the default screen resolution shifts my screen to the left, making ubuntu unusable untill I adjust the screen screen resolution.) - Adam ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 Date: Fri Feb 26 18:23:56 2010 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala - Release i386 (20091028.5) LiveMediaBuild: Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx - Alpha i386 (20100224.1) NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia Package: gnome-control-center 1:2.28.1-0ubuntu1 ProcEnviron: LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.31-19.56-generic SourcePackage: gnome-control-center Uname: Linux 2.6.31-19-generic i686 ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 -- Ubuntu forgets my screen resolution settings every time I reboot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/528756 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 528277] Re: screen goes blank when booting to live environment with some nouveau Graphics Cards
I am not able to boot in to lucid, I can only boot in to my old karmic installation, therefore I am not able to obtain a syslog file for the failure to boot from the alpha 3 live cd. I also didn't actively switch to noveau or anything, I was just under the impression that nouveau became the default driver instead of nv for nvidia video cards as of lucid alpha 3. I also believed that nouveau might be the main problem because fedora uses nouveau by default and the screen says no signal when booting fedora from a live cd just like it does when I boot ubuntu 10.04 (lucid) alpha 3 from a live cd and because I never had this problem with previous versions of ubuntu or distros that do not have nouveau installed by default for nvidia video cards. - Adam -- screen goes blank when booting to live environment with some nouveau Graphics Cards https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/528277 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 436354] Re: Flash is very laggy (standard vga adapter/via unichrome video card)
Update - I downloaded the linux tar.gz2 packaged driver for my s3 unichrome 400 series video card from the manufacturer's website (s3graphics.com) and installed it (I ran the uncompressed install.sh file in terminal and restarted my computer as per the instructions on www.s3graphics.com). I don't think it installed properly because I don't see a difference in flash performance and my framerate is only 500 fps when it should be 2000 according to the installation instructions. The installation of a tar.gz2 video driver and editing the xorg.conf file is too complicated for a newbie like me. If there was some sort of binary .deb file for ubuntu online or in ubuntu's software repositories it would probably be easier to install properly assuming that this would fix the flash problem, but I have not been able to find one. - Adam -- Flash is very laggy (standard vga adapter/via unichrome video card) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/436354 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
