[Bug 553687] Re: [Dell XPS m1330] [Lucid lynx] [regression] Suspend and hibernate not working

2010-06-06 Thread korvins
After reinstalling Ubuntu Lucid from scratch, suspend and hibernation
work as expected.

Hibernation was not working because I had no swap space, but suspend was
broken by the update.

This information may help some m1330 owners, but it is still it is a
regression, which looks very bad to the people.

[Bug 480643] Re: Files not syncing

2010-05-27 Thread korvins
Hi Mitch,

I am sorry but I am not using Ubuntu One anymore, so I cannot tell you
if it still happens. I can tell you this was something that was not
happening always or in an easy to predict way. It was at least 1 or 2
releases ago, so it may have changed already.

Maybe someone else can comment on the issue.

[Bug 95853] Re: Add an option to get a confirmation dialog before deleting files in Nautilus

2009-10-31 Thread korvins
I think this should be on by default... and I still do not see the point
of NOT asking novice users if they are sure to delete a document... It
is the one of the most dangerous thing you can do on a computer.

You removed control+Alt+backspace behaviour (which is great to remove
it) and I think we should do the same with delete without asking,
specially when coming from the keyboard.

[Bug 373725] [NEW] Missing dependencies and missbehaviour

2009-05-08 Thread korvins
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apertium-tolk

Hi, I just tried apertium-tolk, in Ubuntu 9.04...

I think it is great since it is the first desktop translator for linux
if I am not wrong...

However it did not work very well for me. First I think it should have
all the apertium files and dictionaries as dependencies (they are not so
big anyway)... In this way it would be installing this application and
seeing all the options immediately. As it is now it is not easy to guess
that you need the apertium engine and dictionaries to make it work, and
it looks broken out of the box since it cannot do anything.

Apart from that, it seemed to translate dinamically the first two words
(Hola, buenos días, with es-ca) and then stopped working. Maybe it is
better not to translate anything dynamically and simply put a button
that says translate. I know that the engine already works very well.

Notice this application is accessible from the general program menu
(apart than from synaptic) of the most popular linux distribution so it
has a lot of visibility. It is important to put something simple, but
that works and shows that apertium really translates properly. Simple,
easy to use and working properly, that is the most important thing.

Thanks :)

[Bug 373158] [NEW] tracker IO activity slows down ubuntu 9.04

2009-05-07 Thread korvins
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tracker

I was working normally on my computer and I started feeling it sluggish.
Firefox was going gray (not responding) intermitently and I did not
have many tabs opened. It seemed to go worse, and I closed all the
applications I had opened but it was still all very slow. At that time I
had 9gb of free space (of 80gb), and I emptied the trash(9gb more) to
see if it improved, but I did not seem to improve.

Using top I could not see any process using much CPU or memory. However
I saw that the hard drive was doing a lot of IO operations (377tbs on
iostat using a 7200 portable hard drive). Using iotop I could see that
tracker was using the most part of the IO activity.

PID USER DISK READ DISK WRITE SWAPINIO> COMMAND

26144 x1275.90 K/s 0 B/s 0.00 % 0.00 % tracker-extract
3875 x 0 B/s 311.56 K/s 0.00 % 0.00 % tracker-indexer

I reckon that tracker should not be that agressive, since it is supposed
to not affect normal activity.

[Bug 315747] Re: usb-creator created bootable USB sticks generate "Invalid or Damaged bootable partition" and refuses to boot

2009-01-16 Thread korvins
Hi,

I could make it work.

Following what is described in:
http://www.ankurb.info/2008/11/19/solving-ubuntu-usb-disk-install-error/

I checked lba (logical block addressing) flag in the usb using partition
editor. It did not work the first time, I guess it is because I did not
have unmounted? Anyhow I formated the drive to ext3 and using the usb-
creator asked me to format it again. I did it and it worked.

I suppose that lba flag is needed for that.

Thanks.

[Bug 196277] Re: A GNOME login without keypress dosn't set GNOME keyboard settings

2008-12-10 Thread korvins
I suppose there is somehow a good reason that makes this bug not fixable
easily in 8.04.

If you have bought the right support for Ubuntu, probably you can get an
special build just for you with the fix you are requesting.

If you have not, you can try to convince or to understand why it is so
hard or so important to fix in 8.04, doing some research before, or at
least trying to be nice.

I am not saying that you are not being nice, I am just saying that we
should be nice while asking for free support. Otherwise we can just pay,
and ask for specialized support. Or try to investigate and do it
ourselves.

(I do not work for Ubuntu, I am simply another user who had this
problem...)

[Bug 240596] Re: Issues with Catalan localization

I installed again Ubuntu 8.04 with Wubi in a different computer.

This computer was connected via ethernet to the net, and after
installing everything connected to the internet and downloaded the
appropiate localization.

I suspected this did not happen before since the only way to connect was
using a Wifi card, that probably was not connected.

What would it happen if the network is not avalaible during the
installation and it needs to download some language packages? Would that
explain what I mentioned?

[Bug 153294] Re: gutsy: path of nm-vpn-properties is wrong in menu

2008-06-19 Thread korvins
No, this is actually not fixed in Hardy with all the updates.

I installed package network-manager-openvpn and the element "VPN
connection manager (vpnc)" appeared as unselected.

I went to "Edit Menus", made this element to be shown and after clicking on it:
Error: could not find «nm-vpn-properties» (No such file or directory)

Looking at the properties I see the following command:
nm-vpn-properties --import-service org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.vpnc
--import-file %f

But nm-vpn-properties is not on the PATH, and that is why it is not found:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ nm-vpn-properties
bash: nm-vpn-properties: command not found

However the nm-vpn-properties program it is installed under:
/usr/lib/network-manager/nm-vpn-properties

which is not in PATH
echo $PATH
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ echo $PATH
/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games

So I suppose you should include nm-vpn-properties to a different
directory or simply specify the whole path in the gnome menu.

Let me know if you need anything else.

[Bug 240596] [NEW] Issues with Catalan localization

2008-06-16 Thread korvins
Public bug reported:

I recently installed Ubuntu 8.04 from scratch and every time I reinstall
it (on different machines) happens the same, so I am pretty sure this is
a bug. It may affect other languages that might not be included on the
CD or similar.

After choosing Catalan in the installation, my system boots up and my system is
half in English, half in Catalan. After upgrading the thing remains to be the
same.
For instance:
- Firefox is in English.
- Gnome title menus are in English: Applications, Places, System
- However contents of those menus are in Catalan: Accessoris, Gràfics, Jocs,
Oficina,

If I go to System, Administration, Language Support I can rechoose
Catalan, and everything will be fine. However this should be done by
itself since the user has already specified the language.

I suspect that Catalan language does not fit completely in the
installation CD, but in the first upgrade the system should update
completely all these packages. This can make the system unusable for
many people who do not speak english.

As I said this may occur with all languages excepting the biggest ones.

[Bug 204238] Re: compiz crashes randomly when using a Qt OpenGL Widget

2008-06-16 Thread korvins
Hi,

This is much more than low priority. It happened to me 10 times in an
afternoon, and it has been happening for a long time already.

Please change the importance of this, since a complete crash without
possibility of recovery has to be considered high importance.

The same happens here, compiz activated, CPU is very busy (like 100%), I
minimize a window, and the whole gnome crashes. It never happens when
compiz is not activated.

I have everything updated, and it still crashes.

I seems randomnly but if the system is busy it happens easily.

Please update with this issue.
