[Bug 1311247] Re: [Grubenv] error: malformed file, press any key to continue
I too am affected by this bug. If a developer decides it bothers them enough though, they may go ahead and do the work to backport it... This is the kind of thinking that keeps linux irrelevant to the majority of computer users. Even the distributions that make an effort to cater to the non technical users are riddled with bugs, some of which are so severe as to make the os unusable (have you ever lost your graphical interface after a kernel update?). Even for an LTS edition,a bug is fixed if it bothers a developer enough. If they can find a workaround for it it means the bug is not critical...For them. For a normal user it may mean days or even weeks of research on message boards and frustrating trial and error attempts that often times make things worse. So critical has hardly the same meaning for knowledgeable linux users as for regular users, for whom the operating system is (and should be) a tool that is invisible. Ubuntu already is a great operating system for developers. If you want it to also be an operating system the other computer users, the scale you use to weigh the severity of bugs is wrong. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1311247 Title: [Grubenv] error: malformed file, press any key to continue To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/grub/+bug/1311247/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1266005] Re: Computer started to reboot instead of shutdown after kernel update
Martin, I am not sure if it works for you on a notebook, but what I found works faster for me is to wait for the GRUB dialog to appear and to shortly press the power button. Having no session loaded at that moment the computer powers off immediately. It's not ok because there's still a reboot happening but it's faster than havaing to wait for Windows to load. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1266005 Title: Computer started to reboot instead of shutdown after kernel update To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1266005/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1266005] Re: Computer started to reboot instead of shutdown after kernel update
** Description changed: - UPDATE - - This bug suddenly stopped reproducing for me today (jan, 5th) with any kernel version. I have no explanation for it, I did no updates in the meantime. Please close this bug if nobody else is affected by it. Thank you. - - This was originally a question, I've been suggested to file a bug. [Bug 878767] Re: No GUI option to change week-starting day
I know this is an old bug but there is still no way to change first day of the week in 2014 without undesirable consequences. I find it a bit astounding that such reasoning is used to not accept this as a bug. As already mentioned, every other operating system has this option. And the reason they do is that it's useful to people. I will not go on repeating the arguments for it, I believe there is no question to how obvious they are. This restriction affects the user experience in a negative way and it does so with no good reason. [Bug 1266005] UdevLog.txt
apport information ** Attachment added: UdevLog.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1266005/+attachment/3940554/+files/UdevLog.txt ** Description changed: This was originally a question, I've been suggested to file a bug. I'll try to give a technical account of what is happening but I am not familiar with developing software. I am running Ubuntu 12.04 64bit with Gnome 3 on a dual boot machine. Upon shutdown (from the menu) the computer stops, including all the fans but starts by itself after about 2 seconds. This started happening after an update that changed the kernel from 3.8.0-33 to 3.8.0-34. I can choose a previous kernel from the GRUB menu at startup and boot with 3.8.0-33 and this way I can shutdown the computer. I can also shutdown the computer with no problem when I boot into Windows. Today there was another kernel update, which I did and can report that the unwanted behavior continues also with 3.8.0-35. Things I've done: - Checked the BIOS for settings that might prevent computer from powering off. No wake on LAN or other settings like this are active. The mainboard is based on an Intel H87 chipset. - Added acpi=noirq to GRUB - no effect. If it brings any relevance: I recently upgraded my video card and the issue persists with the new card. - --- + --- AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version k3.8.0-34-generic. [Bug 1266005] Re: Computer started to reboot instead of shutdown after kernel update
This bug suddenly stopped reproducing for me today with any kernel version. I have no explanation for it, I did no updates in the meantime. Please close this bug if nobody else is affected by it. Thank you. ** Description changed: - This was originally a question, I've been suggested to file a bug. I'll - try to give a technical account of what is happening but I am not - familiar with developing software. + UPDATE + + This bug suddenly stopped reproducing for me today (jan, 5th) with any kernel version. I have no explanation for it, I did no updates in the meantime. Please close this bug if nobody else is affected by it. Thank you. + + + + This was originally a question, I've been suggested to file a bug. --- AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version k3.8.0-34-generic.
