[Bug 563907] Re: Persistent Live USB Install Encrypted Home Folder Login Crash

2011-07-14 Thread launch...@liberte.li
yep, logging in as the default ubuntu user and viewing the encrypted
home directory from a superuser terminal, I can confirm that it is
indeed encrypted.

[Bug 563907] Re: Persistent Live USB Install Encrypted Home Folder Login Crash

2011-07-14 Thread launch...@liberte.li
This bug report gave me the idea, I tried it just now with Ubuntu Natty
32-bit desktop on a persistent USB install, and I can confirm that it
works. Nice one! Now I have a killer USB stick.

The only thing I am unsure about is that I can't think of a way to check
within the persistence file whether the home directory for the added
user is encrypted. I am able to log in as both users so long as I have
the login screen enabled and automatic login disabled in the login
preferences.

[Bug 629391] Re: Compiz Wallpaper plugin broken in 10.10

2011-05-13 Thread launch...@liberte.li
Following up on my own comment - this appears to be fixed in natty as far as I
can see on the basis of two installs.
Cheers!

[Bug 774207] Re: [Natty Intel 945GME] No desktop effects (kwin 100% cpu)

2011-05-04 Thread launch...@liberte.li
Got the same problem on a Lenovo s10e netbook. This is a showstopping
bug! To make matters worse, Ubuntu Classic only shows me a flickering
white triangle on the bottom left of the screen, and unity gives me only
a completely black screen.

End result: I have no usable desktop environment, where gnome and KDE
4.6.2 both worked perfectly before the upgrade. This means Ubuntu Natty
is hands down the worst linux I have ever used.

Waiting on any developments on this bug.

Can someone lend some more detail about how this all works in Ubuntu
11.04? Sounds like some conflicting reports above.

I'm waiting to upgrade several machines until the status of this bug
becomes clearer.

Thanks!

[Bug 625395] Re: [Maverick] ~30s boot pause

2011-02-03 Thread launch...@liberte.li
I have just started having this problem after doing an "apt-get
autoremove" on my Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit system (Acer timelinex 3820TG with
the dual GPU "switchable graphics").

Here's what my dmesg looks like:

[1.688349] sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] Attached SCSI disk
[1.799582] hub 2-1:1.0: USB hub found
[1.799791] hub 2-1:1.0: 8 ports detected
[2.075196] usb 2-1.5: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 3
[2.597199] EXT4-fs (sda7): mounted filesystem with ordered data mode. Opts:
(null)
[ 42.726500] udev[444]: starting version 163
[ 42.738288] lp: driver loaded but no devices found
[ 42.802317] intel ips :00:1f.6: Warning: CPU TDP doesn't match expected
value (found 25, expected 35)
[ 42.802341] alloc irq_desc for 18 on node -1
[ 42.802344] alloc kstat_irqs on node -1
[   42.802357] intel ips :00:1f.6: PCI INT C -> GSI 18 (level, low) -> IRQ
18
[ 42.802521] intel ips :00:1f.6: failed to get i915 symbols, graphics
turbo disabled

So a full 40-second delay. All the while the hard drive churns away, and the
cursor blinks on the screen; then an error message flashes up too quickly to
read and then the plymouth splash screen appears.
The hard drive churning and the mounted filesystem notice make me wonder if
it's related to the disk mount.
Must be some package I removed; if I can figure out which one it was, might
help to locate this problem.

Just started getting this problem on a Lenovo s10e netbook with Maverick
10.10 (upgraded from 10.04). Didn't see it before today.

[Bug 629391] Re: Compiz Wallpaper plugin broken in 10.10

2010-10-11 Thread launch...@liberte.li
Got the same bug since upgrading to Maverick today.
Opening a tty session (ctrl-alt-F1) and then returning to the desktop
(ctrl-alt-F7) causes the wallpaper to be drawn properly.
Here's a thread on the French Ubuntu forums with several people experiencing
the same problem: http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=421649
